Any updates on the 12U 4:00pm game between the Franklin Fury and Memphis Elite?

What's up with the teams from West TN.

Congrats to the West TN Lady Tigers and Memphis Elite. What are you guys feeding those girls over there in West TN?

Who Won the Championship game?

This may be a dumb observation, but teams play in the state tournament in hopes to qualify for nationals, correct? Then why would a team leave the tournament if they have an additional opprotunity to advance since other teams have already qualified for nationals.

Interesting pools, Indiana's Finest and the GA Magic game will be worth the price of admission by itself. This pool/tournament should be good for the Top Guns, should really help prepare them for the state tournament. KGC will have to play a very athletic shooting stars team, should be interesting to see the matchup.

showtime7 and glass eye, These teams sound impressive, only time will tell. Great coaches do help but any great coach will tell you its the players who have to execute. So regardless of coaching it will come down to the teams/players who have experienced and developed their skills at higher level play.

From what I've seen, the Memphis Elite / Waves team will repeat ...

fragile21, Interesting predictions... Its fun to see how the teams and players mature an grow each year...I think its a toss between the top three, and the TOP GUNS could really mix things up.. Does anyone know if the Belles or KGC teams are going to the Jefferson City Tournamnet, I'd like to see them play.

Dizzle, Seeing is Believeing, go to the 12U State Championships and judge for yourself. I've seen both, and while the young lady from the Belles is good player, the young lady with the West TN Tigers is exceptional. Besides, why are you so concerned with or trying to compare 11/12 year old children? This is supposed to be fun and enjoyable not who's the best. If your'e a parent or coach you may want to read some publications/books on youth athletics. Quoting stats is a prime example of a parent or coach who is approaching or is already over the edge....You failed to mention anything about the TEAM !!!

The young lady is actually a 11U but plays up on the 12U team. Her dad is the coach. From what I've heard from the folks over in Memphis her dad insist that he coaches her, no one else. She is by far the best 11U in TN, although there are other good 11U players, the Belles #3, KGC's guards and the Waves have several (why doesn't she play with the Waves 11U?). I've brought this issue of 'playing up' for dissussion before. It really does not help the representation of the SE/TN assoc. at AAU National's. I'm a strong proponent of letting the athletes play their perspective age...

fragile21, The term SOMEWHAT EXCEPTIONAL means that the Waves are not an average team, top 5 in the country. This statement was meant to be a complement to the TOP GUNS, meaning they faced and competed very well against a very good opponent. Remember, this post was about the TOP GUNS, Belles and the South-Middle sub-state tournament, not the Waves.

Dizzle, If you read my post I stated that the Waves were somewhat of an exceptional team. Also last year, was last year, every year teams will grow and change. All good teams can and will have sluggish games, and its possible the Waves just did not play well at state last year. What counts is how or where they consistently finish. I'm quite sure they faced more competitive teams at Nationals than at State laste year. Fragile21, Sounds like you have issues with the Waves…they are a good team regardless if they dominate or not. KGC is a good team also. The Belles are not quite there yet, but could pose an upset. I looked at the Waves roster from last years AAU State Championships program and they did not pick up any players for Nationals. Yes, KGC has the making of an exceptional team, but being a guard centric team has its limitations. The exceptional teams have balance, depth and play through their ups and downs. For what its worth one of the parents told me the Waves primarily played their second unit at the Super Regional, which says they have depth or are working towards strengthening their team. Besides, all of this will be settled May 28-30 and July 2-10 for this age group. As far as teams from Tennessee, I think they have all the ingredients to compete successfully at national level in all age groups. My opinion is that each age group would better represented if all the stronger players were assembled on one or two teams in their perspective age group. I think that this issue has been discussed previously, playing up, it can really deplete an age group. Which is a higher priority, personal development and exposure, or representing your State/Association on a National level. Not everyone can say they are a National Champion at the highest level regardless of their age or personal goals.

The Top Guns looked very good against the Waves, they lost but played them extremely well, keep in mind though the Waves are somewhat of an exceptional team. If the Top Guns play like they did in the Super Regional tournament they should be able to get by the Belles for the #1 seed at State. I think they've also played KGC Lady Pride and did well. Have the Belles played any highly competitive or nationally ranked teams (Sweet 16) this season? If so, how did they do?

Does anyone here know who is on the Shelblyville Sport Shop 15U team?

sassybmanmom, Jefferson City is about 50 miles Northeast of Knoxville at Carson-Newman college. Last year the competition was very good. Most of the teams finished in the top 10 at Nationals last year. In the 11U age I heard that the Georgia Majic, Indiana's Finest, Memphis WAVES, KGC Lady Pride, Cutter Construction (KY State Champs) and several others will be there. All of these teams placed very well at Nationals last year.

sassybmanmom, Yes, the Waves won the super regional. What other teams were at Hooptown this past weekend? Why didn't the Belles play in the super regional? Did you see the Waves play at the super regional? KGC won their East sub-state tournament. What other tournaments are the Belles going to be at? The TN Miracle Classic in Jefferson City May 14 - 16 would be a good preview for nationals.
