  1. BREAKING SPORTS NEWS: The Golden Tornado will soon be a Rebel.
Union City High School senior Parker Stewart made his college choice official today by verbally c...ommitting to play basketball at Ole Miss after fielding offers from numerous Division I programs from across the country and taking several recruiting trips.
Stewart gets his college choice out of the way and will now concentrate on his final season with the Twisters, a year that will see the team play in highly-touted prospect tournaments in Washington, Ill., (Thanksgiving) and Wilmington, N.C., (Christmas) in addition to its District 14A slate. Stewart scored 647 points, averaging 19 per game, last season in helping lead the Tornadoes to their third consecutive Class A sectional round. In his sophomore season, Union City reached the Single-A state championship game.
Stewart is also a member of Penny Hardaway's Memphis-based Team Penny in the AAU summer circuit.
At Ole Miss, he will join a program that has enjoyed great success under head coach Andy Kennedy, a two-time SEC Coach of the Year selection. In 10 years with Kennedy in charge, the Rebels have won 212 games, reached the NIT five times and the NCAA Tournament twice. Last year's Ole Miss squad won 20 games and moved into The Pavilion at Ole Miss, a new, state-of-the-art 9,500-seat arena. The Rebels christened their new home with a 74-66 win over Alabama on Jan. 7 of this year.

  2. Union City and Humboldt will hook up for the 90th time Friday night at Union City...This is Union City's oldest rivalry...Humboldt leads the series 47-40...There have been two ties...Union City and Humboldt have met 5 times in the playoffs with Union City winning all 5 meetings...The Tornadoes are 7-3 in their last 10 meetings with the Vikings, winning the last 5...Humboldt last won in this series in 2011...Union City won last year's game 65-7 at Humboldt...Darren Bowling is in his 9th season at Union City and has a 83-23 record...With a win Friday night, Union City would be 47-3 in it's last 50 contests...

Union City is 2nd ranked with a 5-0 record...UC is 3-0 in Region 7-1A...Humboldt enters the contest with a 3-2 record...They are 2-1 in region play...

My prediction is Union City 47 Humboldt 12

    As always...GO TORNADOES !!!

  3. North Charleston Cougars will come into their game with the Tornadoes with a 1-2 record...They opened the season with a win over Military Magnet 52-22...Week 2 saw them lose on the road at Stall 39-6...They lost tonight at home against St. John's 48-18...

Last season they started out 5-0 before losing their last 5 contests and missed out on the playoffs...

  4. Final comments on the game. I think Peabody has a good team. They have plenty of size and some big hard running backs. Penn is very impressive and the QB can sling it. Number 2 is a good reciever and number 3 got his name called a lot on defense. The single biggest problem for Peabody tonight was ........Peabody. penalties and turnovers killed them over and over. Not taking anything away from my Tornadoes. They did an outstanding job especially in the first half on offense. Our QB was the game changer. He was faster than anyone on the field. Coach Bowling installed a couple of new twists in the offense. Some plays I've never seen before. They worked like a dream and resulted in long scoring runs. Peabody made some adjustments at half time and looked really good in the third quarter. For a while it looked like they were gonna mount a come back. When the final conclusions are made I'm gonna say that we still have a long way to go but we are getting better every week. My main concern is that we need some help out of the backfield for our QB. It's gonna be needed more in the playoffs than now. The good news is that we have time. When this team peaks out. .......they are gonna be a force to be reckoned with. I think that we peaked way to early last year. Maybe we can start peaking about round 2 of the playoffs this year. That would be the perfect time.

You know looking back, I can't remember an unforced turnover...UC forced all of them...Easley made a nice INT...The fumbles that Taylor and Albea had were caused by nice licks...Penalties are due to lack of coaching technique and discipline...We held firm down on the goal line on that stand...The glaring weakness is our secondary...Taylor did make some nice throws but some of his receivers looked as though they were running routes vs air...We GOT to fix that by Dresden week...Trenton has a good team...They have some really good athletes...Penn and Albea are good, hard runners...Taylor has a good arm and has the size and throws a really nice ball...That 6'6 receiver is hard to defend...

I would like to see Bowling get Laz off the field some...Maybe get him off the K/O team...I know we got other fast kids that could be put back there to run the ball...You just think of injuries...We could have had more time of possession and ran Kennedy more but Laz was just taking what Peabody gave him...Once he broke that first level he was just gone...I wonder what his 40 time is ?...We have a tough, hard-nosed group of young men...They may not be as talented as the last three teams we have had but they know how to win...We will only get better from here on out...Bowling has plenty to take from this game to use as coaching points...Yes, we won big but we have a lot of room to improve...

  5. Score predictions ?

Union City has had two different young men rush for over 200 yards in consecutive weeks...QB Laz Scribner (262yds vs South Fulton ) and RB Tucker Kennedy (222 yds 38 carries vs Mitchell)...What will Peabody try to take away ?...The QB or the big bruiser ?...Will this be the week one of the slots get the most yards ?...Peabody really can't expect UC to not convert a PAT this year...Is it possible that Peabody can be the only team in 42  games to defeat the Tornadoes ?

    Union City - 47

    Peabody - 13

  6. I'll have to drop the score a little on my prediction...Predicted rain much of the week and 80% chance Friday and the fact that SF's field isn't as well kept as ours, i'd say the score will be lower but still dominant...Key will be to hold on to the ball...Probably see a lot of straight up the middle and see if you can stop us...42-6

  7. They haven't fared well in preseason scrimmages and lost up in LaCenter, Ky. to Ballard Memorial 4 tds to 2 on Friday...I imagine after the way UC got handled in Dburg by Haywood Co Friday, Coach Bowling will have the guys attention...Probably not the best thing that could have happened for the Red Devils...I'll predict a score of 62-6 UC...

GO TORNADOES and Good Luck on another great season !!!...
