  1. You Gonna Think This Is Funny.....But Jeff Chandler from Union City should have got some votes....They won 9 games this year, which if I'm not mistaken was the total of wins the last three seasons. GC had all their players back didn't they and they are good all the time....I mean 30-0 is an awsome record and no one really expects to go undefeated , but GC is right where everyone expected they would be.Hoffman with everything that happened at Central over the summer and the injuries should get some votes.(LITTLE HITLER..LOL). But really for what he had I think Jeff should have got some votes.Russell prolly won though.

  2. Getting carried away=worst sin in broadcasting..............Opperman that hit the nail on the head..........Like I said before I knew this would hit a nerve and that's good....maybe it will change the way the broadcasts are done...maybe not....but the back and forth is good....and you know what ??..my son plays for the Rebels and if I don't want to listen to the game ..well I don't have to ...right ??..I have played and seen enough football that I don't have to have someone telling me what is going on anyway.....GO REBELS !!!!!!

  3. and again you are missing my point....yes it does take a special person to do what he does im not even talking about that......the point is a professional job on the radio....he is getting paid for it i suppose...and yes there is time time to get stats and facts and the like...there are enough good newspapers in the area to get a good idea of what to expect from another team..heck even talk to the opposing teams radio guys and swap info....get past what you think of him personally...if i knew him i would probably like him too

  4. shooter...i never said he didnt love the game ...im sure he does...and no they prolly dont get paid much for their time and im sure it takes away from their family time and all that stuff and i knew when i posted this there would be people for and against...but it is good to have a forum where you can express your thoughts...and i just feel the OCCHS fans are getting what the radio station is paying him....not much

  5. zelmarie......thats your opinion and i respect it......my opinion is quite opposite....and for those folks that are not able to attend games for health or age reasons, really i feel sorry for them that they have to listen to him do games...as far as professional standpoint..lol...no quite different..from a fans point...and if you cant stand to listen to your teams announcer and have to listen to another game while you are watching the game you came to see...well thats bad...the problem with the fans that actually say they like him is they havent heard many good ones. robin francis is a good one russell hilton is a good one jim cawley is a good one.of course maybe me growing up listening to the likes of john ward and jack buck make me have a little higher level of standard for radio announcers.the job of a radio announcer in my opinion is to make the listener feel like they are at the game...you know almost smell the popcorn and hot dogs...let the listener know little things like which direction a team is going in direction to the radio dial..what color uniform the teams are wearing...who on the other team is the star player...some facts about the opposing team...you know a little homework...i dont want to hear dead air and throat clearing and little inside jokes and snickering and for goodness sakes there will be a time when a ref calls a foul or a penalty on the Rebels and its a good call...i dont have anything against Danny personally quite frankly dont even know him....I do know he is a police officer in Union City and I respect that and tip my hat to him and appreciate him for his service. of course that has nothing to do with his broadcasting skills which are really lacking...an up to date account of the score and time on the clock would help also in listening to the game..when an announcer is broadcasting to how many ever people in a listening area they broadcast to ....like it or not they are representing the school they are covering...but as far as yours and mine opinion on this matter im not going to fight with you...just let me say this take a radio to a game...objectively listen to the broadcast in relation to what is going on on the floor or football field and remember its radio and not t.v. and also remember the listener cannot see the action...count how many times a throat is cleared or a sarcastic remark about a referees call...both ways...see if you can not look at the scoreboard and tell how much time is left in the game and what the score is...it will surprise you...if you can say that you heard a professional, classy broadcast then you won't be changed and more power to you....

  6. Anyone with a Pioneer uniform.....Remember it's Gibson County's world in 13aa...the rest of the teams just live in it !!...How bout a nomination for coach of the year ??...Jeff Chandler at Union City..to win 9 games and finally break through with a 13aa win this season deserves consideration...He has a lot to deal with at Union City and he did a great job...

  7. Well FRESHREB74 I bet you didn't know you would stir all this up with this post, did you?All I can say about all this is I have heard a bunch of the fans and kids say the team does not practice much, only the 50 minutes during school. You can not win doing that.I don't know Coach Greer or seen any of his other teams play so I can't comment on what kind of coach he is.I did see one game this year against Crockett Co. and the Rebels were beaten pretty bad by a very mediocre team.My comment to some friends at the time was that the kids did not look like they were having fun or much less really like each other or the coach.Another observatation was that they settled alot for three point shots. With the size the Rebels put on the court I could not understand why the team did not work the offense and get it inside for easy buckets. That is not as flashy as hitting a bunch of 3's,but it would have beaten Crockett Co.One thing about the players quitting, they not only quit their coach, they quit their teamates and also their school and as young as these kids are I don't really think that sets a good presedence for the rest of their lives.Believe me and all the adults on here know that there are going to be many times that things don't go your way or you feel you are being mistreated and you can't just quit. But that's just my opinion.I've got a son that made the freshman team this year and decided to concentrate on football and from what Ive heard and seen lately about the program I'm glad he did.I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings but the future of the program is bleak with what is coming up and just to be honest 5 wins next year might be stretch. But on the bright side of things ..don't the football team look alot better now.I'm looking forward to a packed stadium and more playoff wins in the future and who knows maybe a football state championship at OCCHS......GO REBS !!

  8. There is a difference in being excited for your team and just being a fan on the air. You have a responsibility to bring at least some professionalism into it.At OCCHS the football team is trying to bring enthusiasm into the program. The thing that bothers me and should bother the coaches, players and fans is that for someone traveling through the area from out of town and just happens to turn to an OCCHS game on Friday night all you got is Danny Carr.He gives the impression to the listener that Obion County is full of red-necks.The officials are always against the Rebels, there is always dead air(this is NOT T.V. where you can get away with that because you can see what is going on)inside jokes and always, always huffing and puffing on air.I have to listen to another game while at a Rebel game just because it makes sick to my stomach to try to listen to the game i'm there to watch. The atheletic director, superintendent and coaching staff should do something about it.At the very least look at another radio station doing tihe games.Or get someone that can do the game in a professional manner.I know that these guys don't get paid much for what they do and most do it just because they love sports and that is fine but there is a perception put out about the Community on these broadcasts and the perception of the area and the school and the Rebel football team is being hurt by what is on the air now covering Rebel sports.

  9. ANYONE IN WEST TENNESSEE CAN TELL YOU THAT TWO OF THE BEST STADIUMS ARE IN OBION COUNTY TENNESSEE.....IN TROY HOME OF THE OCCHS REBELS AND IN UNION CITY HOME OF THE UNION CITY TORNADOES...BOTH HAVE PLENTY OF ROOM AND BOTH HAVE LARGE MULTI PURPOSE BUILDINGS WITH INDOOR PRACTICE FIELDS...THEIR MAY BE OLDER STADIUMS WITH MORE HISTORIC CHARACTERISTICS LIKE JOHNNIE HALE IN MILAN...HISTORIC FREED FIELD IN TRENTON..OR PAUL WARD STADIUM IN HUNTINGDON...BUT FOR ROOM...LIGHTING..SCOREBOARD...PRESS-BOX ROOM..PLAYING SURFACE...PARKING...EASE IN WHICH TO FIND...I'D HAVE TO SAY REBEL FIELD IN TROY AND WAR MEMORIAL STADIUM IN UNION CITY ARE THE BEST

  10. MY PREDICTION ........MILAN-20 HUNTINGDON-7

ONE THING I FOUND INTERESTING IN THE CHATTANOOGA NEWSPAPER LAST FRIDAY.....POLK COUNTY COACH DERRICK DAVIS ON THE OUTCOME OF LIPSCOMB AT TYNER..."THIS SHOULD BE ONE THE GREAT GAMES OF THE PLAYOFFS.THE WINNER OF THIS ONE SHOULD BE YOUR STATE CHAMPIONS." PLOK CO. LOST TO TYNER 36-0 AND LIPSCOMB 41-0. SO I GUESS REALLY MILAN AND HUNTINGDON ARE PLAYING FOR WHO WILL END UP STATE RUNNER-UP. AND ALCOA SHOULDNT EVEN PLAY LIPSCOMB. ALTHOUGH I WOULD NOT COUNT OUT ALCOA I THINK LIPSCOMB WILL BEAT THEM. BUT MILAN AND DAVID LIPSCOMB WOULD BE A GREAT STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME...ONE THING IS FOR SURE...THERE IS ALOT OF TRADITION IN THIS FINAL FOUR AA BRACKET

  11. I BELIEVE THE REBELS WILL WIN AGAIN...AND HEY MAYBE THE FRESHMEN WILL PLAY AGAIN....MAYBE BRIGHTON SHOULD LET SOME OF THOSE FRESHMEN OFF OF THAT 8-0 TEAM PLAY SOME...COULDN'T HURT....BUT ANYWAY MY PREDICTION IS THIS OCCHS-35 BRIGHTON-14...AND ALSO CONGRATS TO THE RIDGEMONT MUSTANG 5TH GRADE FOOTBALL TEAM.....7-0 AND UNSCORED ON 179-0...SOME REALLY GOOD TALENT WAITING IN THE WINGS FOR THE REBELS....GO REBELS !!!

  12. MY PREDICTION FOR 2A IS THIS MILAN VS LIPSCOMB........MILAN 21--LIPSCOMB13......AS FOR TYNER I DONT KNOW IF THEY WILL GET BY GOODPASTURE.....AS FOR LEWIS COUNTY.....THEY MAY GET BEAT BY McKENZIE THEY ONLY BEAT THE 4TH PLACE TEAM IN THAT REGION BY 1 PT..AND WILL FOR SURE GET BEAT BY HUNTINGDON...BEING FROM WEST TENNESSEE AND NOW LIVING IN CHATTANOOGA THE ONE THING THAT HAS SURPRISED ME IS THE WEAK REGION TYNER PLAYS IN...IF THEY HAD TO PLAY THE MILANS,HUNTINGDONS,AND MOST YEARS WESTVIEWS AND UNION CITIES THEY WOULD FIND OUT WHAT TOUGH REGION PLAY WEEK IN AND WEEK OUT WAS ALL ABOUT..I KNOW...I KNOW TYNER FANS..YOU BEAT UNION CITY IN 1997 WHEN UC WAS RANKED #1 IN THE STATE AND 14-0..I WAS THERE ...IM JUST SAYING TYNER'S REGION IS WEAK..BUT MAYBE THE RAMS WILL PROVE ME WRONG AND GO TO THE BORO TO FACE MILAN....IF YOU GUYS GET THROUGH GOODPASTURE AND DAVID LIPSCOMB YOU DESERVE TO BE THERE..
