  1. You guys are wanting to make it about one team playing this team or how good one team is and they are from East TN! Here is the point I was making, MALIK FOREMAN WOULD NOT SCORE A TOUCHDOWN EVERY 2.47 TIMES HE TOUCHED THE BALL IF HE WERE PLAYING MEMPHIS SCHOOLS EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT!!! That doesnt mean that DB couldnt beat the best team in Memphis. It just means that kid wouldnt score as much or as frequently!!! The fact is, from top to bottom, there are more elite defensive athletes and tougher defenses in class AAA in Memphis than in class AAA in Northeast TN!

Great post! I agree. Memphis has much more talent overall. Wish D-B played tougher opponents so we could be ready for the full 4 quarter battles during the playoffs. Malik is talented enough to play major college football in the right system. At the Mobile, AL Nike Combine in March he finished ranked 25th out of 1,304 kids mostly from FL, GA, AL & MS.

  2. Don't start this "is this the year?" junk again gentlemen. All the Indians need to be focused on is the Volunteer Falcons and big ol' Conner Trent. We've been talking about "is this the year" since 1969. I love D-B, played there, can spout off the names and stats like Rain Man like many of you guys, but let's stay focused on winning the next game before we start making room in the trophy case for that elusive gold ball. Roll Tribe!

  3. Here's a list I compiled for active 2012 players. If they got cut in preseason I didn't add them. The list may not be 100% correct but I did look at the guys previously listed. I'm aware of 28 active NFL and 4 active CFL players who played high school football in Tennessee:

  4. Some others not listed on your consolidation/merger page on hsfdatabase from Sullivan County:

Blountville Tigers - blue and gold, fielded football teams 1963 thru 1967 seasons, consolidated into Sullivan Central 1968

Holston Institute Eagles / Holston High (Blountville, TN)- non-football school consolidated into Sullivan Central 1968.

  5. Congrats to the Indians for a great season. You played hard the whole game like true DBHS Indians. I wish the seniors good luck as you go out into the world and you will find the life lessons you learned under Graham and the staff will help you face tough times, bounce back from failure and become productive young men and community leaders. Hope Bearden continues to play well and reaches the championship game. Roll Tribe Roll!

  6. Ralph Nelson was a one man wrecking crew. My opinion, he was/is the best lineman to ever come out of the Kingsport/Colonial Heights area.

Me and you both know what the outcome of this game was when the younger Anthony Nelson played.

I love Ralphie but the best lineman IMO from South was Sam Haynie. Ralph was strong, Anthony was big but Haynie could clean ya clock. Kyle Carter and Jeff Templeton were talented too. Those 5 would be my picks for all-time line for South. Sullivan High/Sullivan West the predessor of South produced several good ones: Wayne Peters and Gene Harkelroad are two that come to mind.

Best ever from Kingsport was Hal Miller, high school and college first team All-American and NFL player. D-B has had quite a few good lineman. Denver Crawford who played at UT, drafted by the Packers and was All-Pro for the New York Yankees in the AAFL, Larry Cage, high school All-american played at Georgia, Kyle Shipley who played at Ole Miss, David Steadman who was a high school All-american, played at Georgia Tech and was drafted by the Rams, Jack Fulkerson who played at Southern Miss and was drafted by the Packers. Leon Duncan, David Light, Lee Johnson, Aaron Ferguson, Mel Joseph and Clay Harkelroad were great as well. Jim Beverly from Sullivan North, Tony Williams from Sullivan Central. Ketron and Lynn View produced several major college lineman as well.

Of course Hincke you were quite the lineman yourself, 1999 All-State.

  7. True or not.... he's going to get his yards as the game goes on. Oh yeah, and i believe he's the all time rush leader at DB. Somebody always mentions they did'nt keep track of yardage when Cifers and that bunch played but come on, could those guys play now? Chris has been and is a great player and will continue to be despite what he accomplishes this year. He's going to get an Education playing football and that's great in itself. Hopefully at The University of Tennessee. So for them to be upset, should'nt be the case. I'm sure coach Clark has the I-Formation in his playbook, because were going to need it some. I hope Clark will pass the ball to Chris and let him show that ability as well. Let's all be happy that we've got the players that can do everything well. And with that,Roll Tribe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Could Cifers play now?!?!? Yes, he's one of a hand full of SEC/NFL RB's from the 1940's who could still play the game at that level today. Not many HS running backs could win state championships in both the low and high hurdles as well as the shot and discus just as a fun activity to stay in shape during the football off season. Cifers was a 5'11", 200lbs guy who ran a legit 4.4 forty, had an uncanny agility, speed and power combination who is the TSSAA Track Athlete of The 20th Century and would have been a Heisman contender his senior year at UT if not for WWII cutting his college career short.

Chris is a talented, well mannered, intelligent kid who I think will have a tremendous senior season. This new offense should benefit Chris and highlight his abilities which IMO are perfectly suited for the fullback position in the flex offense. I still think Chris can play OLB at the major college level and look forward to seeing him on both sides of the ball this year. Roll Tribe!

  8. Got it; thanks...I appreciate your help.

I have all the Dobyns-Bennett scores from 1921 to 1979 I've been promising to put into electronic format and send to the high school database. I'll get that completed.

  11. Congrats to the Indians for a great season. Seniors we appreciate your contributions to the program, school and community. Take this experience and use it to be the best you can if life....hope the lessons and work ethic gained has prepared you to face life's challenges! Roll Tribe!

  12. Any kid who shows up for two a days in August, never misses a practice and gives his (or her) best on the practice field and weight room contributes to the success of the team on Friday night whether they ever make it on the field during a game or not. Graham nor Ted Wilson nor Fred Walton before him has ever gave a heck about how much money a player's daddy has or how much clout they have with the school board or QB Club. Graham does a tremendous job of molding and motivating these boys to excel on the field and tries to prepare them to be a success in life. A public message board is not an appropriate place for this BS. The D-B coaching staff is an excellent group of men who are passionate about the game and the opportunity to contribute to the growth of Kingsport's youth.

    Roll Tribe

  13. Chris is the son of Brandon Sensabaugh......Brandon was a senior in 1989 he was a lineman (both ways) GREAT PLAYER! Brandon's brother Preston Sensabaugh was a star on the lines and graduated in 1991. Preston went on to play 4 years at MTSU! They also have another brother (Corey) that graduated in 1993 (i think) and I believe Corey played baseball only at DB. (not really sure what all Corey played to be honest). But I can say all of these guys are A1 guys! Some of you may remember thier dad Richard, he coached any and everthing at the Boy's Club back in the day (late 70's into the 80's).

Great kid and great family! I wish Chris success.

They have some cousins in SW Virginia who are great athletes too. Jaymil is a senior running back at J.I. Burton and Boo Sensabaugh played at J.I. Burton and started at corner for West Virginia a few years ago.

  14. A strong running game gives you a chance to have a better passing game! D-B has had talented QB's the past three seasons but due to such an inconsistent running game they have lost several games and kept a few teams in games because they were ineffective on the ground! D-B has had excellent talent at running back, fullback and offensive line but as much as the aerial attack has helped us, the lack of ball control and keeping the defense balanced has bitten them several times. I'm an old school three yards and a cloud of dust smack ya in your mouth lineman and always thought that passing the ball has three results of which two are not good, most of the time.

    Roll Tribe!

  15. Keep you heads up Indians and fans! Seniors we appreciate your hard work and dedication. Use this experience as a foundation to build a successful life.

This was a bitter defeat. My only comment is that D-B needs to play better out of conference competition like the old days! Back in the heyday of D-B football we took on the top teams from Virginia, Illinois, Indiana, Georgia, North Carolina and Florida. I know KCS has budget constraints but I'd much rather see D-B lose to a tough out of state team once or twice a year than beat local 4A teams by 40 points. Hopefully we can find a way to schedule the McCallie, Riverdale, MBA calibur teams regular season to prepare the boys for the playoffs. Bringing home a gold ball would make everybody forget about loses to out of state power houses at seasons end!

    Roll Tribe!

  16. I guess you two are Riverdale fans? Dennis Harrison is the best football player Riverdale has ever produced and has 136 NFL games under his belt to prove it.

    Dennis Harrison

    Position: DE/DT

    Height: 6' 8'' Weight: 280

Born: 7/31/1956, in Cleveland, OH, USA

    High School: Riverdale (Murfreesboro, TN)

    College: Vanderbilt
