  1. Great post! I agree. Memphis has much more talent overall. Wish D-B played tougher opponents so we could be ready for the full 4 quarter battles during the playoffs. Malik is talented enough to play major college football in the right system. At the Mobile, AL Nike Combine in March he finished ranked 25th out of 1,304 kids mostly from FL, GA, AL & MS.
  2. Don't start this "is this the year?" junk again gentlemen. All the Indians need to be focused on is the Volunteer Falcons and big ol' Conner Trent. We've been talking about "is this the year" since 1969. I love D-B, played there, can spout off the names and stats like Rain Man like many of you guys, but let's stay focused on winning the next game before we start making room in the trophy case for that elusive gold ball. Roll Tribe!
  3. Here's a list I compiled for active 2012 players. If they got cut in preseason I didn't add them. The list may not be 100% correct but I did look at the guys previously listed. I'm aware of 28 active NFL and 4 active CFL players who played high school football in Tennessee: Current NFL Players Who Played High School Football In TN Player High School NFL Team Randall Cobb Alcoa Packers Dustin Colquitt Bearden Chiefs Scott Wells Brentwood Academy Rams King Dunlap Brentwood Academy Eagles Michael Oher Briarcrest Ravens Greg Hardy Briarcrest Panthers Michael Coe Cordova Giants Gerald Sensabaugh Dobyns-Bennett Cowboys Daniel Kilgore Dobyns-Bennett 49ers Coty Sensabaugh Dobyns-Bennett Titans Jason Witten Elizabethton Cowboys Tyson Clabo Farragut Falcons Tim Dobbins Glencliff Texans Patrick Turner Goodpasture Jets Patrick Willis Hollow Rock-Bruceton 49ers Garrett Reynolds Knox Carter Falcons Harrison Smith Knoxville Catholic Vikings Dont'a Hightower Marshall County Patriots Dan Williams Memphis East Cardinals Cassius Vaughn Memphis East Colts Golden Tate Pope John Paul II Seahawks Lee Smith Powell Bills Ramon Foster Ripley Steelers Aubrayo Franklin Science Hill Chargers Jerome Felton Sequoyah Vikings Jabari Greer Jackson South Side Saints Frank Omiyale Whites Creek Seahawks Dontari Poe Wooddale Chiefs Others Phillip Merling Cordova Packers (Just released by the Packers today) B.J. Juliet Roughriders CFL Eric Taylor Franklin County BC Lions CFL Gerald Riggs, Jr. Red Bank Argonauts CFL Adarius Bowman Notre Dame Eskimos CFL (injured reserve) Demonte' Bolden Tyner Academy Stampeders CFL Ayanga Okpokowuruk McCallie Argonauts CFL (practice squad)
  4. Some others not listed on your consolidation/merger page on hsfdatabase from Sullivan County: Blountville Tigers - blue and gold, fielded football teams 1963 thru 1967 seasons, consolidated into Sullivan Central 1968 Holston Institute Eagles / Holston High (Blountville, TN)- non-football school consolidated into Sullivan Central 1968. Bluff City non-football school consolidated into Sullivan East 1969. Mary Hughes H.S. (Piney Flats, TN)non-football school consolidated into Sullivan East 1969. Holston Valley Rebels non-football school consolidated into Sullivan East 1969.
  5. Surgoinsville Eagles - orange and black - consolidated into Volunteer High School 1980
  6. Any recruiting updates? Any word on visits, offers, etc for Sensabaugh, Hall, Seabolt, Steele, Cannon, Leeper, etc???????? No coach or player bashing please.
  7. Congrats to the Indians for a great season. You played hard the whole game like true DBHS Indians. I wish the seniors good luck as you go out into the world and you will find the life lessons you learned under Graham and the staff will help you face tough times, bounce back from failure and become productive young men and community leaders. Hope Bearden continues to play well and reaches the championship game. Roll Tribe Roll!
  8. I love Ralphie but the best lineman IMO from South was Sam Haynie. Ralph was strong, Anthony was big but Haynie could clean ya clock. Kyle Carter and Jeff Templeton were talented too. Those 5 would be my picks for all-time line for South. Sullivan High/Sullivan West the predessor of South produced several good ones: Wayne Peters and Gene Harkelroad are two that come to mind. Best ever from Kingsport was Hal Miller, high school and college first team All-American and NFL player. D-B has had quite a few good lineman. Denver Crawford who played at UT, drafted by the Packers and was All-Pro for the New York Yankees in the AAFL, Larry Cage, high school All-american played at Georgia, Kyle Shipley who played at Ole Miss, David Steadman who was a high school All-american, played at Georgia Tech and was drafted by the Rams, Jack Fulkerson who played at Southern Miss and was drafted by the Packers. Leon Duncan, David Light, Lee Johnson, Aaron Ferguson, Mel Joseph and Clay Harkelroad were great as well. Jim Beverly from Sullivan North, Tony Williams from Sullivan Central. Ketron and Lynn View produced several major college lineman as well. Of course Hincke you were quite the lineman yourself, 1999 All-State.
  9. Could Cifers play now?!?!? Yes, he's one of a hand full of SEC/NFL RB's from the 1940's who could still play the game at that level today. Not many HS running backs could win state championships in both the low and high hurdles as well as the shot and discus just as a fun activity to stay in shape during the football off season. Cifers was a 5'11", 200lbs guy who ran a legit 4.4 forty, had an uncanny agility, speed and power combination who is the TSSAA Track Athlete of The 20th Century and would have been a Heisman contender his senior year at UT if not for WWII cutting his college career short. Chris is a talented, well mannered, intelligent kid who I think will have a tremendous senior season. This new offense should benefit Chris and highlight his abilities which IMO are perfectly suited for the fullback position in the flex offense. I still think Chris can play OLB at the major college level and look forward to seeing him on both sides of the ball this year. Roll Tribe!
  10. Almost football time! Good luck '10 Indians! Roll Tribe! Great to here Luke is on the staff!
  11. There was a guy in Texas a couple years ago who kept the national records. Here's the Tennessee Top 20 through 2008. I'll get that completed.
  12. Good Luck Indians! The real season starts today! Roll Tribe Roll
  13. A.C. Reynolds H.S. in Asheville, NC is normally a 4A (largest classification in NC) power in the Tarheel State and is only about 80 miles from Kingsport.
  14. OK going old school here.... Derrick Hord, from Tennessee High, Bristol, TN ....he was Parade All-American in 1978 and 1979, McDonald's All-American in 1979, all SEC at Kentucky in 1981-82 season, drafted by Cleveland but never played in NBA.
