  1. McCallie defeated Temple 57-52. I've seen better games -- but I've got to hand it to the Crusaders, they made the last few minutes of the game exciting. McCallie was beating Temple by 17 points in the 4th quarter -- but the Crusaders cut the lead to 2 with less than a minute to go in the game. It was a great comeback by Temple -- but it was a just a little too late. If they would have played the first three quarters the way they did in the last 5 minutes of the game -- they would have probably beaten McCallie, but the Crusaders didn't have a very good first half -- scoring only 12 points to the Blue Tornados 24. I'm sure the Temple fans were disappointed in the loss -- but maybe there was a glimmer of hope in what they saw in the fourth quarter. If the Crusaders want to see State this year -- they're going to have to step it up and find a way to play all four quarters like they played the last one in Thursday's courageous comeback at McCallie. They have the talent -- but it appears that something is lacking. Maybe it's leadership on the squad. I hope the Crusaders can represent Chattanooga once again in Murfreesboro -- but the month of February is going to be a "turning point" for the Crusaders. Temple will have their work cut out for them on Friday night when they face visiting Unaka at Vance gym in Chattanooga. Good luck to both squads. It should be a good one. Don't miss it. Here's the breakdown of the scoring for both teams: Temple (52) -- C. Skogen 25, Wadley 10, S. Skogen 11, Newson 4, Mouw 2, Smith, Cudd McCallie (57) -- Keith 16, Harrison 10, Okpokowork 7, Newman 7, Hilt 2, Dozier 4, Johnson 2, DoFoor 6, Harris 3. Three-pointers made -- S. Skogen 3, Wadley 2, Keith 2, Harrison 2, Newson.

  3. What's everyones predictions in this game in Vance gym at Temple?
  4. Who will win this time between Temple and McCallie?
  5. I never said the Jackets were a horrible team. I said that Temple played horrible -- compared to the way they've been playing lately. LV did a great job and I was impressed by their abilities on the court. So, there was no criticizing your team -- I just know that Temple could have played lots better than they did on Friday night. I've only seen the Jackets play a couple times this year -- so I'm not sure what they're capable of doing from week to week. Again, LV has a good team and should feel good about themselves.
  6. And don't forget about Josh Smith at Temple. He's a freshman and doesn't get the minutes yet in varsity -- but I think he also has the potential to be all-state by his junior and senior year.
  7. This one was closer than I thought it would be -- but the Crusaders pulled out the win. I don't remember the score -- but the Jackets gave Temple all they wanted in this one. I thought Temple played horrible on their home court. If the Crusaders want to make it to state again this year -- their going to have to play better than they did tonight. Hats off to Lookout Valley for putting forth a great effort. You guys played with a lot of heart and tenacity. You are to be commended for making this a good game to build on for the future.
  8. They didn't "own" the game. Temple gave CCS a run for their money in this one. It appeared they really had CCS frustrated for a while. I think CCS thought they would just dominate the whole game - but they didn't by any means. I say it again Temple should have won this one -- but because of some dumb mistakes they blew it. If they would have protected the ball in the closing couple of minutes of regulation -- instead of trying to shoot threes and fly though the lane trying to create something -- they would have pulled out the win. I still believe the two will meet again and Temple will prevail.
  9. After Temple's loss at Chattanooga Christian (a game they should have won) the Crusaders will be on fire in Friday's homecoming game in Vance Gym. The Jackets better bring their best game for this one -- if they plan on getting the W. It should be well-balanced scoring on the part of Temple. With them getting a good lead early we should see some of the other players come off the bench for some PT. I'm going to take the Crusaders over the Jackets in this one: Temple 74 Chatt. Valley 56
  10. Yes, CPA did beat Temple by 13 -- but a couple of weeks ago CPA and Temple were in a Tournament and CPA was beat by College Heights and Temple turned around and won the tournament -- defeating College Heights. So, I think the next time Temple plays CPA the Crusaders will win. Temple should have won against CCS tonight -- but the Chargers took it in OT. Can't wait for the rematch. I believe Temple will prevail next time and go to State.
  11. I think Bailey Wamp plays for the girls varsity b-ball team at CCS and I believe Weston is on the boys JV squad.
  12. Seth Skogen made a field goal with about 3 minutes left in the game that pulled Temple within 38-37. He scored again with about 2 minutes left as Temple took the lead. Sean Wadley scored with a little over a minute left in regulation and the Crusaders were winning the game with a score of 41-38. Cook missed a free-throw for a bonus opportunity which gave the ball over to Temple. Temple had a great opportunity to put the game away -- but Caleb Skogen threw the ball away and Courtney of CCS scored which pulled the Chargers within 1 (41-40) with less than a minute remaining in regulation. Zach Mouw then scored for the Crusaders to give Temple a 43-40 lead with 35 seconds remaining. Cook then made an amazing three-pointer (an NBA 3) at the 25-second mark to tie the game. Seth Skogen had a three-point shot at the buzzer that could have sealed the deal -- but didn't drop -- sending the game into overtime. CCS did what they had to do to win in OT. Again, it was a great game and it will be good to see these two teams play again in the Regional Final. TENNESSEE TEMPLE (55) -- Mouw 4, Wadley 15, C. Skogen 22, S. Skogen 12, D. Newsome 2, Cudd, Ballon, Smith. CHATTANOOGA CHRISTIAN (60) -- Courtney 8, Nielson 9, Long 1, Cook 31, M. Groothius 9, Jones Three-point goals -- Cook 3, C. Skogen 2, S. Skogen 2, Wadley 2.
  13. Well, this one was a very good game. Temple should have won it before it went into OT -- but with a couple critical mental mistakes CCS forced the OT and took the game with some key shots and defensive stops. The fans got their moneys worth in this one and I can't wait to possibly see a rematch between these very talented teams in the Regional Playoffs. I understand that if there is a rematch it would take place on the Crusaders home court. Temple could get the upper hand in a rematch. Congratulations to both teams for a great game.
  14. Bowling takes more skill than people realize. It's more mental than anything. You have to know what to do in any situation. You also have to know how to throw the rock. It's a fun game to play -- but it can be frustrating if you let it be.
  15. The answer to this question is 'yes'. There is no reason why private schools should not be able to play a public school. I know for a fact that public schools "recruit" students to play for them. It happens all the time. If there's a will -- there's a way.
  16. It's not a very good idea to have students keeping the clock. Of course, sometimes it's not good to have some adults running the clock, but it's a job that has to be done and someone has to be willing to do it. I really don't know what the solution is to this dilemma -- other than to have someone do it that has no ties with the competing schools.
  17. Well, since no one else is going to give their input about this game -- I'm going to give my pick and reason. I believe Temple will pull out the win at CCS. Even though CCS has the height advantage -- I believe Temple has the better defense and will be able to frustrate their counterpart in this contest. I do think it will be a close ball game with a possible overtime or two, but Temple has played tougher teams than CCS this year and it will help the Crusaders with the W. The only way CCS is going to win this one is to shut down the three point shooting of Temple and to dominate inside on the offensive end. This should be one of the best games taking place in the city of Chattanooga and it would be a shame if it wasn't a packed out house. Don't miss this one and I hope these two schools get some media time from the local news stations and papers. Temple 67 Chattanooga Christian 64
  18. East Ridge should not be ranked above Temple -- since Temple beat ER at the beginning of the year. Just an opinion -- but one that I think holds water.
  19. Who do you pick to win this one and why?
  20. Temple won easily. It was 72-45. Temple started out kind of slow -- but in the end there was no contest. The Bucs couldn't handle Temple's defense. The Crusader's had a pretty good showing from all of their players.
  21. Not that it would really matter to you -- but I have to disagree with you about your stance on this issue. No player should have to "deal with the cussing." The yelling and screaming is acceptable -- along with the constructive criticism, but I still don't get it when people talk about being "motivated" by someone cussing them out. And to correct you, every high school kid doesn't get cussed at 24/7. You may get it where you are -- but it's not the same situation for everyone in this world. I also don't understand what being "thick-skinned" has to do with this subject. And the only "point" I get from a coach cussing me out is to understand how far we've gone in the wrong direction (well, that's not the only "point" -- but I'll hold my tongue). Whether "old-school" or "new-school" it is still not good or right for a coach to use profanity with the players they coach. In the words of Webster (as in Webster's dictionary), a coach is one who "instructs or trains a performer or a team of performers; specifically : one who instructs players in the fundamentals of a competitive sport and directs team strategy." If it takes someone that has a foulmouth to instruct and train our kids how to play the game, you can mark it down, we live in a sad and tragic world.
  22. This should be a pretty good game, but in the end the Temple Crusaders will get the W with a score of 67-62.
  23. I don't believe it's about the parents wanting control at all. I also tend to believe that many of the parents do know as much or more about the game than many of the coaches. Yes, my experience as a coach has been that there are some parents who do want to control things (usually wanting their kid to get PT) and yes, there are many who don't have a clue about the game, but when it comes to subjecting kids to vulgar and indecent language -- it is the parents right to confront and complain to the coaches (or administration) for their wrongful reactions and actions, and it is our responsibilty as coaches to treat our young people in a decent and encouraging way. And by the way, they are our "precious' babies -- and no, it is not stupid to enforce a no cussing policy.
  24. Does anyone know the details of the Boyd Buc vs Grace Game?
