  1. Glad to see the softball program is looking good. I heard at Church on Wednesday night that the first 8 batters for Giles walked and that's where most of the runs came from. I look forward to coming and watching the Marshall County game this week. Good luck to the players and the coaches (who I've watched grow up playing basketball at LCHS and the Courts...they've turned out to be great guys and seem to be good coaches too).
  2. Good job Raiders and Lady Raiders on a good season. I listened to many of your games and you all made the folks in Hohenwald very proud. I have also heard both coaches are hanging it up after successful careers and there have been lots of names mentioned around me about possible replacements. Here are some of the names I have heard mentioned the past month or so that would have a realistic shot at one of the jobs: Broadway, G. Craig, Cox, W. Duncan, Fite, Helton, K. Hinson, Keltner(s), Lawson, M. McKissack, Mullinicks, L. Riley, Rodgers, H. Spears, Stanley, S. Thompson, Wills, and an unnamed football coach who will also do LCMS football (possibly B. Skelton).
  3. I didn't see anything about this on the boards (I may have missed it), but I'd like to say "Congratulations" to Britni. She recently set the record for most points in Lewis County Basketball History (men & women's 5 on 5 competition) with over 1700 points. I missed the game it happened but saw it this morning in the local paper. Britni is a class act and a lot different than most of the other leading scorer's in our town's history. She has never had a bad attitude on the court, she has never been a ball hog, and she has always played her heart out. She is a great player and role model to the younger girls who I see admiring her and hoping to be the next Britni Tenison someday.
  4. The Panthers of Lewis County are off to their best start since 1997, posting a 11-2 record into the new year. The 'Cats of Giles County are a mediocre 10-5 and looking tired and bored on the court. I believe it will be an interesting game tomorrow night in Lewis County. Depending on the play of Sparkman and Curfman, Lewis County may get the upset and land first place in the district at the end of the season. WNEELY: If Smith scored at will against Bradley Central, why'd Giles lose? If a man can score at will wouldn't he score everytime down the floor and thus win the game for his team? You don't make any sense. The 'Cats themselves won't score 100 points against Lewis County, much less the highly overrated Smith.
  5. Fairview must have been awful to have lost after the Lady Panthers committed 27 turnovers. The turnovers seem to be a problem for Lewis County. Good job with the stats Pageman, you're the DonHaney of basketball! Keep up the good work, I like reading the stats of all the teams you observe.
  6. I would like to take the time to thank everyone who was part of Lewis County's great run this year in Panther football. Despite what many outsiders and insiders alike say, it was truly a remarkable season and one we fans will remember for years to come. Thank you Coach Sharp for leading the team to 12 consecutive wins and a great season indeed. It was your leadership and dedication as well as your devoted staff that helped take us as far as we went. Thank you Panther players for putting in the time and effort to make this a great season. You endured a lot and never quit until the end. Thank you Dr. Joey Hensley for hosting Carlos, our amazing kicker who won more than one game for us with his leg. We wouldn't have been 12-1 without him. Thank you Benny Pace, Chad Moorehead, Mike Tatum and other school administrators who kept everything running smoothly and had Panther Stadium looking fantastic all year long. Lewis County, in my mind, has the best high school facilities and field in the State. Thank you Panther fans who were loyal to the football team until the last snap last Friday night. Sure there are the 10% or so that make us look bad but I really believe 90% of our fans are a class act. Thank you WMLR and your broadcasters who brought the games to those at home who for whatever reason couldn't make it to the games. You did a great job and brought the games right into our living room. And finally, thank you Don Jones, for giving us so much information and statistics here on CoachT. You do an incredible job and are a great source for history and news. Thanks again to everyone involved in this years wonderful Panther football season, and I can't wait until next August for it to start all over again.
  7. Well said ddaddy. The past twelve years have been incredible for Lewis County football. Coach Sharp has done an amazing job preparing quality teams year in and year out. Whether it is a Barnes, Graves, Hankins, Rainey, Brewer, Carroll or Sharp leading the way, Lewis County has consistently dominated area teams in this time period. The coaching staff he has around him are top of the line and the facilities at Panther Stadium look amazing. Lewis County is lucky to have such great coaches and administrators who put such an emphasis on winning and looking professional. Go Panthers!
  8. Lewis County does traditionally have a strong football team and this year appears to be no different. Coach Sharp has lost several coaches but they will be replaced. Some names I have heard mentioned as coming back to Panther Stadium is former LCHS coaching great Mike Pack (who led the Panthers to the District 10-A Region 5-A Championship in 1980 and a perfect 11-0 record before losing to Goodpasture in the playoffs), Adam Clark (former All District lineman who is currently coaching in West Tennessee), and Wesley Duncan (All District former Panther who played collegiately in Arkansas and is currently coaching in Nashville). If anyone has any information on the coaching vacancies or these individuals please let us know. I can't wait for the season opener. Good luck Panthers!!
  9. I look forward to another great season of Panther football. I believe our boys will have a great year and come out strong against a tough Wayne County team and start the season off victorious. Good luck Panthers!
  10. He played at the ball courts in the 80s. He was tall, very white, and had blonde hair. Some of you older legends should remember him.
  11. I love reading the legend's biographies. How about one of the legendary Randy Latimer, a mediocre high school player but a great one at the old ball courts.
  12. As mentioned earlier I really enjoy sitting down and reading about Lewis County athletics on CoachT and especially the Legends of Lewis County. This biography thread has some of the most amusing posts I have ever seen on here or any other website. They have drifted away lately, but I hope you all continue them for I am sure there are many more Legends with great biographies. An issue I would like to address with all Legends players is the ball courts at the park. I walk the track a lot during the week and on the weekends as well and have missed seeing you guys play. When I walk the northwest area of the track now I am truly saddened at what I see. The basketball Legends you guys write about have been replaced with thugs and bums who are not only sorry excuses for basketball players but are also sorry excuses for Lewis County citizens. Rarely a trip goes by where I don't hear filthy language and cursing from 12, 13, and 14 year old kids. When they aren't cursing they are smoking and littering the area up with garbage. The area that was once considered sacred ground by all of you Legends. I realize that most of the Legends work difficult schedules and rarely find time to play at the park. I also see where you have been playing in gyms rather than the park. As a concerned citizen of Lewis County I ask that the Legends retake controll of the ball courts and run these thugs off. If 6-10 Legends went up there consistently and whipped these thugs on the courts they would grow tired of losing and crawl back under the rock they came from. The basketball would be much more enjoyable to watch and the atmosphere itself would change and us old folks who walk wouldn't have to put up with the filth that is currently going on. Also you guys may be able to turn some of these kids lives around and make a difference to some of them. The guy you call Smits was once one of these thugs but after taking him in has apparently turned into a good ball player and an overall good kid. I'd like to see more Terry Shipp's (a guy who according to your posts like to help young people out) than trash like the thugs I am seeing now. Please return to the ball courts, Legends, and help out the city of Hohenwald by saving the Park.
  13. I don't know about anyone else, but here's my take on the game after seeing most Panther games and several Bobcat games. I believe if things go just right, the Panthers could pull off the upset. However there are several key things that must happen. First the Lewis County crowd must be the biggest and loudest we've seen all year. The student section usual is good, but tonight it must be great. The Giles County crowd prides itself on being the best in the state and you youngsters need to prove them wrong tonight. I wouldn't sit balled up in the far corner, I would spread it out or sit in the middle where you'd make more of an impact. Second you have to take Tyler Smith out early and DEFINITELY don't let him get a dunk. Last night when the Page kid dunked it several times, it really fired up the fans and the team and they went on a big run against you. Keeping their morale down is key. As for Smith you have to get him in foul trouble EARLY, with either offensive charges or defensive fouls. He pushes off a lot and jumps into people so a couple of offensive fouls against him are very possible if you've got a good Vlade Divac "flopper" on the team. Third you must keep the other players from hitting the three pointer. They killed us over there at Giles because their other players hit three after three. A box and 1 as suggested earlier may work if our men are quick enough to cover their three's. Sparkman would be great to put on the side with the great shooting white guy so he'd get a hand up in his face, if he wasn't on Smith. These are just some key things I believe would be needed in order for us to win. Believe me, Johnson and Cox definitely have something prepared already as they head in to tonight's game. They have done excellent all year and I expect the same tonight. Good luck Panthers.
  14. You guys are so fun to read. You should all be writers for ESPN or Sports Illustrated if you aren't already!
  15. GoMab, whom I haven't a clue of his identity or importance, has once again disrespected the Panthers with a severe blow to their midsection in his final Team Rankings. This after the Panthers and Coach Johnson had an incredible week and a half where Lewis County absolutely whipped the powerful Summertown Eagles on the road; convincingly defeated the #1 A team in the state (PC) at their place; goes home to fend off the highly respected Santa Fe Wildcats and then traveled to Lawrenceburg (AAA) to pull out a win in the final seconds. What makes absolutely no sense, to this old man anyway, is how he can rank Hillcrest, Fayette-Ware, and Humbolt in the top 20 while leaving out Lewis County, who finished second in District 9AA behind the almighty Giles County Bobcats. To add insult to injury he even leaves the Panthers off his Honorable Mention list while placing teams like Portland, Loudon, Sheffield, Union City, and Springfield on it. I have praised the Panthers play all year long and believe they should have only 4-5 losses right now. They are playing very well and will advance to the region tournament this year. I am predicting a District Finals matchup in Panther Gymnasium of Giles County vs. Lewis County with Lewis County walking out with the win. Everyone will think I'm crazy but it is possible, especially if every basketball fan in Hohenwald will show up and cheer their team on. So come out next week and show your support, and let's show GoMab how strongly we feel about our Panthers. NEMI people, whoever you are, I hope you bring all you've got because you seem real loyal and supportive of your classmates and team.
