1. If the committee did in deed pick Gaddis the administration has put Coach Stevens in a difficult spot.  Now I don't look for this to happen but if for some reason or another things don't go well he is really going to take some heat and the Administator who wanted him won't be there to support him.

Good move to get Stevens.  Bad move to over rule the committe wishes.

    825647217

No disrespect to Coach Stevens, but the committee did in deed send Gaddis' name to the principal and three times.

  2. Hey Brother of "Big TY", do you have a problem with Stevens?  If so, we'll take him back at AE without a doubt.  So if you and the rest of your OR boys don't like, we'll take him back.  AT least we can look forward to making it to the Boro!!

    825647146

It's not about Stevens. It's about the way our administration handled the situation!

  3. He did apply.  The committee subverted NOTHING!  They made the best choice in Coach Gaddis (TWICE) and the outgoing principal denied it both times because of his personal feeling towards Gaddis.  Then he decided to select his first choice from the start, Coach Stevens.

Way to go Principal Green, you showed us who had the power in this selection.  I have to say, I am glad you are leaving.  You are not someone the Oak RIdge school system needs.  PERIOD!

    825647127

Brother.....update.....the committee submitted their choice 3 times! Wh

  4. I'm new to this post and I live in Oak Ridge and played for Oak Ridge under Coach Gaddis.  I don't have a problem if that is there choice, but I do have a problem with the lack of consideration that they seem be giving coach Stevens.

It's comical to sit here and read this post about Ken Green blocking the selection and having a hidden agenda.

    1. If anybody has a hidden agenda it's that so called committe. You place so much faith in it but since we don't know who's on it then how do we know that they don't have a hidden agenda.  Why because you all say so or may be you all have the same hidden agenda.

    2. Who says that that committee represents all Oak Ridge fans.  Who, you all whom seem to think you know everything.  My phone has been ringing off the hook with people who don't think this is the best route for Oak Ridge's future.

    3. How do we know that Coach Stevens didn't perform well, oh yeah the committee that represents everyone says so.  Like someone said before, I bet that some of the are the same individuals whom condemed him before, but for some reason he's the unanimous choice.  I guess that in there mind, that choice is the best choice as long as it's not "Stevens"?  I wonder what agenda that falls behind.

    4. Like it or not Ken Green still is the principle.  I don't think that any of you will find that in his contract it says stop doing your job since you will not be here next year.  I don't  remember hearing people complaining when the paper said that Mrs. Lussier would be leaving, but she would still be making decisions on teacher hirings next year.  Oh but that doesn't count because it's only about our kids education, not who their football coach will be.

Who ever the next coach is I will support, not just because of "Football" but because of the kids playing football.  Football has opened many doors for a lot of my friends and for that I am greatfull.

    825646717

Mrs. Lussier has not already accepted another position in another state and traveling to that state to perform the new job duties while she tries to perform her Willowbrook duties on a scaled down part-time basis as Mr. Green is doing with his ORHS job. BIG difference!! Mrs. Lussier is a well loved long time educator in the city of Oak Ridge. BIG difference!! Mrs. Lussier raised her children in the Oak Ridge school system. Mr. Green's wife home schools their children. BIG difference!! Mr. Green rarely attended football games!

We all know and love Mrs. Lussier and Ken Green is NO BOBBI LUSSIER!!

  5. ORFEVER, Maybe it is not disharmony, but I work with several people from Oak Ridge both fans and former players, and they have all expressed to me their displeasure with the lack of imagination from the offense especially in the passing game and with not getting the ball to their athletes as much as they should, and believe me these folks for the most part love Oak Ridge Football. I don't have a dog in the fight just thought you might like to hear it from an outside observer. I have much respect for the Oak Ridge program, to me it is the best there is in high school football. Central Bobcat

    825423967

Central Bobcat, thank you for the compliment.

Last word on this ridiculous subject: The Oak Ridge Wildcats (2004 Region 2-5A Champions) are hosting the Farragut Admirals Friday at Blankenship Field. Everyone welcome-fans and critics alike-to support this group of young men who have been working "together" since their winter workouts to meet each goal they (and their coaches) have set for themselves. Should be a great night of football between two long time rivals. Weather is supposed to be cool. The "Ship' should be rockin'....don't miss the excitement!

  6. I'm surprised that their is disharmony in the OR nation. :o  If it is really that bad then Farragut might have a chance Friday night. :D  It sounds like somebodys baby didn't get to play as much as they thought they should. :D

    825422041

There is not disharmony in the Atomic City! If you will notice there are only 2 idiots on here. And I don't use the term "idiot" loosely....only an idiot would start a thread using the word "underachievers" in the first round of the playoffs! Who knows if rayray is really an OR fan or someone trying to stir something up to get things off track! Not to worry the mighty Wildcat Express is on track and will roll Friday night at the "Ship"!! And the Wildcat Nation is solid behind this team of GREAT kids and coaches!! Roll Wildcats Roll!!

  7. I've been going to watch OR football for 25 years. Seen some really good teams there. I have never been as disappointed as I am right now. OR is the most underachieving program in the state right now. OR has 2 very good RB's (45 and 1). 33 ain't bad either. They have a qb capable of throwing the quick passing game. They have the best TE in the state (rarely throw to him), and good receivers (not as good as the past, but good enough). Until OR gets out of their boring, east west, wing t, they'll never be very good. Sure, they'll beat up on the sisters like Bradley and Heritage, but they won't beat good teams. Case in point: They've played one good team this year and got beat. Offense looked good early in the year, but if a team wants to stop OR, just line up and stop the run. Can they throw the ball? Absolutely. Will they? Not until 3rd down or until they absolutely have to. I've never seen a less creative offense than at OR. I've never seen any dumber coaches than at OR. Their offense is stuck in the 50s. They're so unimaginative, boys club teams are harder to defend than OR this year. But, I guess they're content going to the second or third round every year and getting beat. OR has never been satisfied with that. OR people- What has happened? How did it ever come to this? We beat teams that have lesser talent, but can't compete with those that are equal, much less better.

rayray....joined coacht today just so you could complain, huh? You are almost right....#1 isn't "very good"..he is great! same for 45. and #33 aint bad? you're a joke! #33 is VERY VERY good!! and do NOT forget #42!

tell farragut, ooltewah and soddy that the only good team we played all year was DB! HA HA Ha....you were number 12 man down there on the field, right? that would be the only way you would know this.

Riddle me this, batman...if our players and coaches are all so "less creative", "dumb", "stuck in the 50"s" and "unimaginative" as you say they are how in the world did they ever manage to be #3 in the state right now?

you, rayray, represent the wildcats in a shameful manner! the biggest shame is that this team will read what you have posted!

wildcats...disregard idiots!! you are the best!! and we are with you all the way!

  8. Great game to those wildcats! ya'll are a solid football team. we were plagued with turnovers early and that was our downfall yet again. also our special teams let us down again. we had some momentum but that gulmire is awesome!! i don't understand why we kicked it to him?!? oh well ya'll played a good game and beat us on the field. congrats and hopefully we can see each other again!

BTW, just want some wildcat opinions on the refs.....what was the deal at the beginning of the 2nd quarter? that was an obvious miscommunication.

    825407392

Classy post! Best of luck to you! Great fans and football team. And, yes, Spencer is the man.

  9. Soddy can play with Oak Ridge, I believe they will go to the "ship", and come away with the win.  Oak Ridge is a little too confindent.  They were announcing how to purchase home play-off tickets last week before half time during the Ooltewah game.  I know some think it is crazy but a Soddy and Ooltewah win means OR will have to refund some money, and schedule a bus or two for a road trip.  Wouldn't that be sweet!!!!

    825405574

Sorry to burst your bubble but no money has to be refunded because no tickets have been sold to a game we may or may not host. You're wrong about that one.

As far as scheduling buses, of course it would be better to be at home, but if we are on the road we will gladly schedule those buses and be happy to keep scheduling them cause as long as we are scheduling buses that means we are still winning!

  10. actually oak ridge has scored 419 pts which is an average of 46.5 pts a game! They have allowed 134 pts. which is an average of 14.8 a game. soddy has scored 290 pts which is an average of 32.2 pts a game! Soddy has allowed 90 pts which is an average of 10 a game. Now what does all that mean??

    ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!

    825405265

    do you have a life?

  11. Intermission,

I'm sorry, but what game were you attending? OR's crowd WAS into the game! What's with the band taking the entire 3rd quarter off? In the future, it would be nice to have the band's participation at this stage in the game. And, yes, DB's band is awesome! They demand your attention when they break into the FSU song. Tell me, has the OR band thought about trying out Rocky Top? You never know, it might be a hit.

  12. REBELRON, Wouldn't you just love to see some of these posters work out in the weight room all winter, go through spring practice, summer and 2 a days and then bust their butts every weekday afternoon and leave it all on a football field on Friday nights to only have a select few trash them and the school they represent? Would kind of make life sweet, huh?

  13. This game generates a lot of excitment for both DB & Oak Ridge. Sometimes we get a little carried away. I think both sides understand that. So we should just roll with it. Both Schools are the class of the state in my opinion. We're #1 & #2 in all time wins in the state of Tennessee. The series is now tied 16-16. It don't get any better than this!

    825337750

Amen! It's almost too hard to wait from that last ballgame in November (or hopefully December!) to the first game of the next year. Exciting programs to be around!!

  14. Apology accepted. I seriously doubt you could have handled the fall out from Wildcat fans after that post. Spencer is class through and through who happens to be a superb athlete. He is well liked and respected by this community. If anybody has bragging rights it's Spencer, but you never see that out of him. I'm not sure if all young men could handle the notoriety he has as well as he does. He is a humble guy who let's his ability do his talking. Little boys around here want to grow up and be like Spencer Gulmire.

I've noticed one or two OR posters on here making classless remarks as well. Don't judge the Oak Ridge Wildcats or their fans by that. I assure you they are in the minority around here. After the Wildcats the Tribe is my favorite East TN team!

  15. All I wanna know is what was up with Purple Hayes drillin Gulmire into the fence on the last play of the game. That has to be the funniest thing I have ever seen in my life. I guess that's what they get for callin the timeout with 5 seconds left. I bet Spencer regrets it now cause he got popped. And what made it so funny, he got up mad!! hahaha that was great stuff

    825337555

Another "wanna be" DB fan! A true fan of the game and of any team would never make such an ignorant remark. The thought of ANY player from either team possibly being hurt in a play is NEVER funny!!! You need to crawl back into whatever hole you came out of.

The DB Indians who took the field Friday night don't need fans like you representing them. They came into a football town filled with Wildcat fans and played one heck of a football game and ended with a well deserved win. They played with character and class (from what I could see) and maintained that till the end. They seem to have not only great talent, but also that certain "magic" you see in a team every so often. It was a GREAT ballgame to watch, even if we lost. Lots better than the ones we Oak Ridgers have seen so far this year (as far as competition) and I'm sure for the DB fans it was as well. A team like this deserves better than a fan who cheapens their image.

And, never forget they played a very good team! A team with a lot of heart, character and class as well. When these two great teams play only one (unfortunately) of them can walk away with a win. But, you never walk away from these games feeling cheated out of a night of great football. And, there's nothing wrong with critiquing the game, but being a jerk is ridiculous!

DB is our favorite rival and the rivalry stays on the field in hard fought ballgames year in and year out. When the last buzzer sounds it's all respect.

  16. TribeWarrior45: You aren't a "true" Indian, are you? Kingsport DB fans have far more class than you and you only make them look bad. We have always been treated the same by DB whether we win or lose-and that is with class and respect. If I were a DB fan, the only rallying I would do is to get you off here or ask you to adopt another team. You are trying to take the "who's going to come out on top" conversation to a new low.

  17. Thanks, Rebelron. Oak Ridgers always look forward to the Maryville scrimmage. It's always a good measure for us as well!

I gotta tell you......the loyalty and pride we feel when those boys walk down those steps is something else. No matter how many times we have witnessed it! When that train whistle sounds and all the little boys and girls line the steps to hit the players on the shoulder pads it's like seeing if for the first time! Thanks for mentioning it. There's nothing like seeing your team run on that field, huh?

  18. pepvol, AMEN! Your post made me want to stand up and salute! ALL of the kids.....whether they have played 10 weeks of ball this fall....or 11, 12, 13, 14 .....or are playing in the championship games today are ALL winners! How can kids possibly learn anything about sportsmanship and respect when they read some of the things that have been posted here?

There's no point in anyone saying that it is "all in fun". Because "fun" has taken a nasty turn!

Being from east TN, I am proud when any of our teams are represented in Murfreesboro. I was sad to see Maryville lose, but happy that another great east TN team will be vying for the championship. I'm sure you know this already, but jealousy breeds hatred. Maryville is and always has been a "class act"!

    ROLL WILDCATS IN '04!!!

  19. Very well may be, but it's not going on here. I wouldn't dare speak as to all the other schools. One thing you have to understand about this community is that Wildcat football gets in these guys blood when they are little guys playing for the OR Boys Club. We have the two middle schools that feed the one high school. These boys grow up dreaming of being an OR Wildcat and walking down those steps. Our coaches never have to look outside the community. Seriously, the parents who pay the tuition do it for the education, not for the sports program.

I'm sure other young boys growing up in other communities feel that same pull toward the team they think they have a chance of playing for someday. Not meaning to act like it's unique to OR.

  20. Can't argue with facts, fellas. These educational programs are top in the state. And, by the way, I didn't say our football team lives outside the city limits. They are all proud Oak Ridgers, born and bred. With the exception of a couple of boys who don't see much playing time, but their parents can afford the tuition, so no, no unethical exceptions are made.
