1. dmoyers,

Alcoa will still have talent coming back after this year.  They'll return 6 players on defense and 5 on offense.  They'll have to replace Duck and Joei, but they have the best freshman WR in the state, Brian Sommer, IMO, our other receiver Kyrus Lanxter, they have a bunch of good young RB's Troy Hodge, Cameron Battles, and Darrell Tate.  Randall Cobb will be an excellent replacement of Joei at QB.  We'll return Jacob Lequire, Josiah Standridge, and Colton Reid on the O-Line, and Cody Marsh and Nathan Backus are going to be very promising replacements.

Defensively we'll lose 3/4 of our D-Line, but Rae Sykes will be back and will be a monster.  Bobby Keller could start at end this next year, and Cody Marsh and Corey Brewer will be two fine DT's.  LB's will be James Stultz, Bart Hicks, and Colton Reid...they'll be very good.  And the secondary will be Kyrus Lanxter and Brian Sommer at the safeties and Darrell Tate and Alex Green at the corners.  So I still expect the 2007 Tornadoes to still win the region and make it deep into the playoffs, but thats 2 years from now....

Anyway I see Sweetwater , Loudon, and CAK filling the other 3 playoff spots this year after Alcoa

Actually it will be Justin Dunkin, Hicks and Reid at LB. Sommers will be at corner, and Tate is a LB. Someone else will have to step up and fill the FS position. You can't forget that Shivy will be leading the Tailback's next year, unless DT and Troy really step it up. Quarterback will be in good hands with Randall. He's got an arm, and he's lightning quick.

TE will be a hard spot to fill. Look for a battle there next year.

As for this year, I'm thinking

    Alcoa

    Rockwood \

    Sweetwater Contending for 2

    Loudon /

  2. But you don't seem to get it. Alcoa has superstars, not players who did O.K. last year on a 2-8 team. These players might do good against other teams in the region, but they will not even score 14 points in this game, unless its against the 3rd team. It's not being cocky, it's just the truth.

That's a good way to put it Tom. It's not being cocky, and the team is working against becoming complacent. Alcoa does have superstars, and while loudon is a good, solid team, I don't see them being able to put up with the Alcoa Tornadoes. Plus, if you look at it, we have about 8-10 D-1 prospects on the team right now.

    Dustin Lindsey ( UT)

    Brandon Warren (FSU)

Joei Fiegler ( Wake Forest, Louisville)

Martin White (Wake Forest, Vandy, Va Tech?)

    Logan Love (Vandy)

    Kyrus Lankster (Louisville {for now})

Brian Sommers (Early interest from South Carolina, only a Soph)

    Drew Miller

  3. While I hope that it will definetely be Brandon Warren and Duck I don't think that the committee would give two players from the same team the honors. Has that ever happened before? Also, I think that Shiverdecker will not be in the running this year, but most likely next year when Duck is gone. He has the talent but he will be behind the best RB in the state, and that is no easy task when trying to win the Mr. Football award.

  4. It's getting closer, summer workouts are over, and full pads are on...has anyone's stance on the game changed? I know a big addition for Alcoa is Shiverdecker, and that might have changed some neutral opinions. Interested to hear about the QB battle over in Maryville. Any information or ideas would be great... 24 more days ;)

If you go back and look, I think that the only 2 teams that scored more than 14 points on us were Maryville and Huntingdon. Fast Forward to this year, and we have lost 2 seniors : Richeon Belle and Dante Lewis. I don't think that many teams will be scoring 24 on us, and I don't think that out of the teams that do, that one of them will be CAK.

  6. Maryville guys;  Did Hunt progress in the spring as many of you thought he might?  Burnett is a good talent, but he's still a ways away, from what I saw from him in freshman football in the fall.  It's going to be tough for Maryville to replace Thompson, but there is some good talent in line for the QB spot.

I play at Alcoa...and I just thought I'd say that at TAM camp (Alcoa-Maryville Technique Camp) Hunt looks able for the job. He impressed me a lot. I don't exactly know what I was expecting, but he is got an okay arm, he throws nice, tight spirals, and he is very accurate.

  7. Tom & Alcoa06

You know good and well that Shivy is gonna be fine. He was at school and at practice today. It was kinda funny when we informed him today at practice that according to CoachT he wasn't really on the FB team.

  8. MLREB.... You are one funny character, I tell you what... By the way, I was impressed greatly at the TAM Camp held here. You should get what I'm saying.

Shiverdecker is working out nicely so far. I think that he will fill in the CB spot...It will probably be a contest between Sommers and Shiverdeck if the former is willing to play both ways/ if Coach Reid wants him to. Chris will be working on earning the backup spot at Tailback for this year, and will probably enter a contest going into next spring for starter.

Sorry about the false information regarding McCallie and Trigg County. Just what I had heard. I stand corrected.

  9. Well let me start off by saying this.

Coach Reid hasn't been in town since the day after the beginning of dead period. So that rules him out of opening up the weightroom.

    Question:

Do unpaid assistant coaches qualify as violators of the rules if they open the facilities. I play for Alcoa and really don't know the answer to this question, I'm doin my own investigation, but I was just wondering.

  10. thats only one team from the east. the power of 2A ball resides on the west side of the bracket.

    825693718

That may in fact be correct, but look and see who keeps bringin home the gold ball.. .

    2004 East

    2002 East

    2001 East

    2000 East

    1999 East

    1997 East

Come on now....You can't argue w/ the facts thumb

  11. heard lindsey is living with the coach

    825693490

Yes he is...and there is no hiding it. Coach Reid has provided Duck a place to live to get his grades up and hopefully steer him away from any bad decisions. I don't think that this should be frowned upon, but rather encouraged.

  12. alcoa could have drilled Fulton last year, they're not really a "HUGE" problem.  They won 3A which is easier than winning 2A.

Maryville is good every year, and if Alcoa doesn't beat them this year -- they may never beat them again.  Losing their senior QB to the SEC, this couldn't be anything but a "down" year for MHS, despite having all kinds of talented players.

It's definitely a good possibility that Alcoa will lose 4 games and win the state championship this coming season.

    825692650

    P9.....

What 4 games could Alcoa lose? You have to reach to find 3. If anything, Alcoa will go 14-1 or 13-2 and lose to Fulton and/or Maryville. What is the 3rd and 4th game? Please enlighten me. What you say about Alcoa beating Maryville is true. We honestly have this year and maybe next, and then there will once again probably be a lull in the rivalry. Who knows, the upcoming Freshman might surprise me.

  13. Bart Hicks will be eligible this year.

TnVols, I heard a rumor that LSU was at the team workout the other day, and Les Miles told Rae Sykes that he wanted him to play for them in a few years.  I know Brandon is one of their main targets, but I imagine if both went there they would keep their domination on the D-Line going into college.

Like I said, I heard this from another player, I don't know if it's true, could you enlighten me.

    825691924

    Tom,

It's true about Rae. Coach came and told us that a couple workouts ago. Miles just said that Rae needs to stay healthy and keep improving, which I can see happening. It's sad but I could really see him going to be a Tiger.

  14. Having watched them last year I can say just one thing, the Hoptown QB has about 2 seconds to get rid of the ball.  If his line does not defend him hard, then he is gonna be sacked.  Alcoa's safeties can be soft as not many have the time to test them.

    825691811

That's a good observation. The D-line is going to be ferocious this year. Brandon and Rae have both increased their quickness and agility two-fold. The linebacker corp should be tenacious. There are many incredible atheletes playin LB this year for Alcoa. Look for the secondary to make an improvement. Much like Vol football, the secondary was sort of the thorn in the Alcoa Defense's side last year. Don't believe for a second that the secondary didn't take notice. The CB's and Safeties should be ready to roll this year.

Alcoa-Maryville Football camp will be a huge tell-tell of where Alcoa players are compared to Maryville, Fulton and many other East Tennessee football programs.
