  1. Coach Martin is 52-4 in the last 4 years and the losses he has have been to "as good, or better, teams" where the line was even or against CPA. You don't do that by taking anyone for granted. If Milan wins, it will be CPA's first loss in 4 years to a pre-game underdog. Can Milan win? Absolutely! They are a great program that has closed the season strong. I believe CPA is better, but a turnover here, penalty there and the game can change quickly. One thing for sure, these seniors remember the heartbreak of the 2012 loss at Milan. They will not take Milan lightly.

Very good coach and he does a great job, but kind of easy to go 52-4, when 52 of the teams were not "as good, or not better teams".      You said it first.

  2. CPA does not recruit.. If you knew anything about high school football or if you have been to a CPA game you would know that they don't recruit just by skin color.. Hahah not trying to be racist or anything but friends of mine go to CPA there is only one black boy playing for them..

Not sure what "skin color" and number of "black boy playing for them" has to do with it, but yes CPA does recruit.  The coaches might not do the recruiting, but if they did not recruit then they would not exist.

  3. There are going be weak and strong districts regardless of what system we use. That is a dumb argument.

Secondly, I never said this system was perfect, nor that I even like it, but some people act like the old system was flawless, and it wasn't by any stretch.

Agree that there are weak and strong districts but what you are calling a DUMB argument calls out exactly what you stated. You said that a 4-6 team should not make the playoffs over a 6-4 team well in your district a not very good Rossview goes 5-5 and makes the playoffs in 6A. They have probably only beaten 5 6A schools since they were a new school TOTAL. How is that fair?? It is not. At least in the old format, the top four went to the playoffs. You knew that you had to finish in top 4. This system allows a team from a sorry district to win 0 6A games and go to the 6A playoffs. It has happened every year. We have had 5-5 and teams not get in because some team wins 6 5A district games in a sorry district like district 10

  4. I was talking about it happening in the same class in the same season.

While a disparity as big as the one you mention wasn't probable, it was still very possible in the old system. In the new system, there are wilcards. Those wildcards exist for a reason. And that is to even things out once the top 2 teams in each region are decided, so that we can avoid a 4-6 team getting in over a 6-4, or a 3-7 over a 7-3.

Bottom line is win and your in but no way someone from your district can say anything about the playoffs and wildcards getting in. Rossview would not win a game in our district and they are able to get into the 6A playoffs as a wildcard because they beat all the 5A competition in Clarksville. No way that is better. Your Henry County team can schedule hard nondistrict games because you can walk through your district. Try making a schedule when you play in a district where all the teams would beat everyone in your district.

  5. I know it was before his in-process mission trip to Uganda working with orphanages though.

DAD you act like only CPA has great kids and great programs that work with mission trips, etc. We have the same type of kids here in Rutherford County. Many of them are going on mission trips and working at orphanages, etc. We just can't come over to CPA's zone and encourage these great kids to transfer here to play sports. You know that CPA and Coach Maddux do this! Do not deny it by hiding behind how great the church and the mission work is. This is why this CPA topics get so overwhelmed with pages. It is an uneven playing field/court that the school's coaches use. Just go to Div II and you would see that most of this would go away. Ensworth tells the truth when they drive their busses over here. We just want CPA to do the same.

  6. Some interesting facts on CPA's season. 35-2.

10 Wins (according to one highly regarded National Rankings):

    - #2,#3, and #4 teams in all classes in Ky

    - #5 in all classes TN. (Brentwood still in AAA tourney)

    - #19, #24, and #25 (4 wins) in all classes TN.

    2 Losses:

    - #2 in all classes Utah

    - #21 in all classes Illinois.

That's 10-2 in 12 games against very good competition

Congratulations! You have assembled a champion. Good work.

  7. I'd be mad too, if I was one of the real "home grown" kids, and I wanted to play, but instead

was riding the pine, watching my coach bring in his AAU team. Especially if I was an

upperclassmen, and sitting the bench for an 8th grader.

    That is called "mission work".

  8. Maybe, just maybe, the Lindsey's were able to locate and pay for an apartment all by themselves. And that goes for tuition as well. Do you doubt their ability to pay CPA's tuition because of their race? Because of where they moved from? Because of Jalen's skill? I don't get it. Do you have intimate knowledge of their financials?

One of the most common criticisms of this CPA team. I would be more suspicious of recruiting had he not previously played for Drew Maddux. He played AAU for him. He liked him as a coach. Drew Maddux gets a job as a high school coach. Jalen wants to play for him in high school. How is this a "HUGE RED FLAG'? It makes perfect sense to me.

I never ONE TIME said anything about race. You did. You lost all credibility when you said you would be more suspicious of recruiting had he not played for Drew Maddux in AAU. That is his game. Get into the AAU find the best players and get them to come to CPA. I would be really mad if I was one of the parents of kids that pay full price to "play for Coach Maddux". I guess they like getting to sit on the bench of a State Championship team. I guess they like paying full price when the "stars" get work studies and their kids do not. Don't worry, CPA will find the next best 6th grader to replace all of them. Bring them in. Join the church for tuition breaks, and then all the CPA faithful will say they were home grown.

  9. Yes jalen played at Rockvale in the 7th grade but moved and has been playing for CPA since 8th grade. He would have been zoned for Blackman

And you see the problem of the T$$AA and CPA. They have worked the "loophole" of recruiting to the MAX. Move him before the 9th grade and he can get FULL financial help as a 8th grader but once he gets into the 9th grade he must no longer be FULL financial aide or he is not able to participate in sports. Maddux and CPA work it to the best. Congrats!

  10. You are obviously a "newbie" if you think publics are limited by zoning restrictions.

True but sooooooooooo much easier for the likes of a CPA who are doing mission work in Murfreesboro and surrounding areas. Heck they reach all the way to Knoxville!

Let's see Lindsey moves from Murfreesboro to Franklin? There is your change of address, so he is legal. Not sure what school he would be "zoned" to over there but it would be free. What did they do get this family to get into an apartment???, Now the family has to "pay for tuition also?? Too many red flags for it all to be on the up and up. On top of that, he played for Coach Maddux during AAU. HUGE RED FLAG. What does it take to get the T$$AA to investigate?

  11. They played in 2 holiday tourneys last year and this year that had several nationally ranked teams in them that were much better than Blackmon and most Memphis schools. They won 2 of those 4 tourneys. They beat Brentwood at Brentwood earlier in the year and Ensworth at home. They don't run from great competition.

Why would you run from great competition? You have the best starting five assembled (yes put together) in possibly the entire state. We will all continue to say that all we believe is that CPA belongs in Div II. Bending the rules may not be breaking the rules but not sure it fits your "mission statement"

  12. If ever there was a "hand picked" team, this is it. That is the reason that so many people are upset by the un-even playing field. The four juniors have been playing for Coach Maddux since they were 10 years old. One was at BGA, one at Grassland in Williamson County (hire the dad as an assistant coach) one in Murfreesboro and one in Nashville schools (?). Throw in another player from Greenbrier (who avoids sitting out a year because of a bona-fide move to an apartment in Franklin), one from Knoxville (hire his dad to make sure it is a family move) and one from MBA who came to CPA as an 8th grader and was allowed to play in the 8th grade, despite a TSSAA rule that a person who transfers to another school and repeats 8th grade cannot play High school athletics in that year (played in 10 games until the uproar caused the TSSAA to admit their original letter allowing him to play was in fact incorrect).

CPA has 9 juniors, 1 sophomore and 1 freshman- after the "hand picked" team graduates in May 2014 what happens then? I don't think that high school is where Coach Maddux plans to spend his entire career.

Well this sounds like a team that should be in Div II school mission statement or not! As a rutherford county coach, I do not understand how the T$$AA would allow such a total "working around the rules" to apply. Why is he allowed to coach all of them in AAU and then they all of a sudden wind up at CPA? If this was in a court of law the jury would laugh and charge them in about fifteen minutes of discussing. And why does the school allow this "if coach Maddux does not plan to spend his entire career" there? I thought he never spoke about wins and losses and it was about the kids and the mission of helping these young people find the lord??? Bull@@@@! Everytime he shows up on Fox 17 sports, I immediately turn off the channel.

This topic would stop if CPA would just admit that working to pay off a debt is financial aide and should only be allowed in Div II. Why do they not want to play in Div II? All we here is how it is the best league in our state, so why not join them? Once again it is about all those W's over an unbalanced playing field and that is the bottome line.

  13. Could you describe briefly and honestly your teams?

I am a CPA fan. They obviously have a lot of talent, very good point guard (Bonds) whose strength is defense and running the show (doesn't need to score). All of their players are athletic, but they are a bit thin at guard other than Bonds. Their starters are probably the best 5 in the state, but they are much better in a full court game than 1/2 court. Struggle in set offense sometimes.

Starters are all over 6' with Lindsey and Blackwell 6'6'. Allsmiller has had over 100 treys each of the last 3 years. Wonder what the career TSSAA record is for 3's? Top 3 bench players would start for almost any team.

CPA is defending champ has not lost to a Tennessee team in the last 60 games. No seniors on the team.

Interested in hearing an honest (not homey) description of your team.

Did CPA not play this past weekend at Lipscomb? Isn't that where the Div. II teams play the state championships? Oh that's right CPA does not offer financial aide. Sorry I got confused knowing that all of those that you mentioned transfered to CPA. Best of luck to the other 7 teams in AA.

  14. Columbia Central has nothing to do with this - it wasn't too long ago that fans of Central were satisfied with 3-7 or worse seasons. The recent success by Central is great - shows what can be done with athletes and the proper coaching. Instead of folks arguing about who is 2nd fiddle for any reason, maybe, just maybe everyone should use Central as the example of what can be done when the school and district administration works with folks to accomplish things.

Those who think SH would pattern itself off as another Columbia Central lack the insight to both programs and schools. Central - lots of students and 5A classsification; SH - 900 students or less and 3A classification. When people think they have all the answers, they are just learning the questions.

I am sure Columbia has coaches working hard, but one thing that has helped Columbia is the T$$AA going to 6 classes. Bottom line! Period! First year after switch they go from whippng child of 5A in the old system to state championship game in 5A new system. Good luck to Spring Hill. I tried to get someone to respond to my resume, but I guess they have someone in mind.

  15. That is the name I keep hearing. If so it's a really really good hire. 9 Semifinals or better in his last 18 years. And he beat a lot of 6A teams during that time as well with a 3A school.

I hope it is. He will see that Stewarts Creek has no "works study" program. When he was beating "a lot of 6A teams with a 3A school", it was not on the same playing field.

  16. Please do inform!

Heard they have some young talent coming up and 2 kids that will be playing big time programs on Saturdays is a good start VW u of T commit and RG whom I just noted today SC just offered

Two SEC players on one team in Williamson County. I'd say they are the front runners for the district. We don't have that over here in Rutherford. Are they favored to win district? I guess Indy has lots of people wanting the job then? If not, what is the problem over there?
