  1. Programs which are successful draw players! Coaches do not need to recruit and often get blamed because a player chooses to play for them! Heck, when my daughter's coach left after her sophomore year, she begged and cried to move to Shelbyville! She stayed at Bradley, played for a great man and coach her last two years and was very successful. However, if Shelbyville had been closer and knowing she could play for a team like that, who knows???? But, it would not have been the fault of Coach Insell, rather the fact that she wanted to play for a state championship team! Why wouldn't a good basketball player in our area want to be a Bearette??? It's the chance to play in the state tourney!!! Congrats to all the Bearettes for an unforgettable season!

  2. They can't help that the district is pathetic!! It saddens me that the district has sunk so low, because several years ago it was one of the toughest districts and not far behind Shelbyville's district and Riverdale's! What has happened to our area? If Cumberland is moving down, then BC will have literally no competition in district or region play. That's sad and ridiculous! Is it coaching or lack of talent? Yes, Reuter is a great coach. He was the boy's assistant for many years, including the team that went to state three state years and had a 100-10 record (playing the best competition in TN and surrounding states). He mentored under one of the best men's coaches in Tennessee. Bradley will do fine next year and will probably go undefeated again. I just hope they get through substate next year.

  3. Bradley has had superior coaching over the years. Smiddy was a master coach in the six on six days. Cretton went to state a couple of times. Jack Harlow, known as one of the best coaches in state, also took teams to state and substate. Brian Glasner took his Bearette squads to substate more than once and is now coaching in middle Tennessee. Now, Reuter is continuing the tradition. Bradley has a tradition of winning although no gold balls since the Smiddy era.

  4. Better yet have region final winners automatically go to state like it should be to keep 2 teams from same region playing for state title. Thats would still give 8 teams going to state and one from each region. Get rid of the "sectional" round altogether. Make all region playoff games one and done. Use district playoffs to determine seedingd for region

That's a crazy idea! Sometimes the best two teams in state come from same district! This year in single A, the eight teams are just from 4 districts! Your best teams should be represented in the state tourney

  5. I agree that Bradley is as good as any team over there except possibly Riverdale! But playing in that district would not have been a cake walk! Give BC credit though! They have beaten Oakland, Blackman and Stewart's Creek over recent years to go to state! Howard is a special player and would make any team competitive at any level.

  6. I am a fan of middle Tennessee basketball. Not only do u have district 7AAA , you have Wilson Centrall, Mt Juliet, Shelbyville, Upperman, Jackson County, and the list goes on and on! When my daughter played at Bradley, they opened the year at Riverdale then came back over for a weekend doubleheader with Mt Juliet and Lebanon then went back to Giles County for a Saturday game. She played AAU in Shelbyville for five years. I value the quality of bal in middle Tennessee. However, ten years ago, our district was competitive. Cleveland, Bradley, McMinn, Cumberland and Walker Valley were all in the same district and could beat each other on any given night! Now the only two of those that can play at all is Cumberland and BC and they are not in the same district anymore! This area is so weak that I can't even go watch it anymore! It is embarrassing that we have dropped so low and it hurts Bradley to play that game in and game out. I wish they could and would schedule the Riverdales and the Oaklands during the season. They may not go undefeated but they would have been ready for that close game tonight. My daughter was asst coach at Oakland for a couple of years and my son dated an Oakland player for three years, so yep, I am a Bradley fan first and foremost but a definite fan of women's basketball in your area.

  7. To those of you who believe Bradley would be 3rd or 4th in the middle Tennessee district--- Here is what I believe! If they went over there and played now, you are probably correct! However, if Bradley played in that district all year long, I have no doubts they would be second in district and region! It kills them playing in this area where girls basketball is so weak! If they played over there with the talent and coaching they have, I believe they would have been seasoned by this point in the year. They are very good, but it is obvious by the loss tonight and the loss to Oak Ridge last season that playing in this area hurts. Would they have a 32-1 record over there? Heck no!! But very few teams in middle Tennessee can go undefeated. But the losses would have made them better. Bradley has two of the best players in the state and a great coach. Don't count them out next year. Playing over here, I predict them playing another substate game where anything can happen. Congrats Bearettes for a great season

  8. Hats off to Paige Green as she has the Oak Ridge team back in the state. I do not think that a state tourney trip was anticipated at the beginning of the season. Oak Ridge is very young, and I look for them to be a contender within the next couple of years. Bradley County lost two great coaches when we let Aaron and Paige get away. Good luck to Paige and the Oak Ridge ladies.

  9. Whether it's been done before or not and whether or not TSSAA has a good setup is not the issue. The issue is that these girls were wrong as were the coaches. Anyone who has seen the video of the game can see that the girls were blatantly making a mockery of the game. Sure, blame the coaches, but the girls were too blatant. Plus, one person on here said that most of the girls and parents agreed with what they did and would do it again. That is sad, and if so, I would not want that girl on my team. Comparing walks in baseball and dropping an interception to what these teams did is like comparing apples and oranges. They don't purposely walk a person to LOSE a game and the player doesn't drop a pass to LOSE a game. There is strategy and then there is mockery of a beloved game. That was mockery. How embarrassing that every national sports channel and news channel has carried this. Don't blame TSSAA for the teams' actions. Yes, I agree that only three teams should advance to region, but you cant justify what happened.

  10. So you don't give White County or Cumberland County a chance this year? Hmmmm[/quote

Oh yes, I definitely give both the above a chance. In fact, it would not surprise me if one of the above upsets Bradley. I was simply making a point that the last two seasons, NOBODY gave Bradley a chance because of their weak schedule and because of how tough middle Tennessee is. Both years Bradley shocked the middle Tennessee teams. Cumberland or White County could do the same. Some team needs to beat and represent us in state.

  11. I don't want to read 23 pages of this topic, so if what I am about to say is repetitive, please forgive me. As I understand it, the loser of this game would have been in the opposite bracket from Blackmon High. I like the NCAA model. Or the Kentucky or Indiana high school model. The loser goes home. I think Kentucky has the best tournament. All schools, no matter what size are in at the beginning. Districts established according to geography. The two semi-finalists advance to the next round. That game is played for seeding. The next round (region) is single elimination. The state (16 teams - blind draw) is single elimination.

Kentucky has the best set up. We have two many teams advancing and way way too many classifications.

  12. I guess Riverdale will get their day with Blackman and Oakland.....next year.

Good luck to the Blaze and the Patriots as they represent 7-AAA in the State Tournament.

Really??? The past two years that was what was "assumed," but those two teams had to come to Bradley. One of those will probably be coming to Bradley once again. Nobody gave BC a chance either of the two years.

  13. First, I can't believe a school like Riverdale is afraid to play a cross town rival. When my daughter was a sophomore at Bradley, Cleveland girls were ranked high. I wanted us to lose consolation to be out of their bracket. However, Jack Harlow, one of the best coaches in the state refused to lose a game. Long story short, we met Cleveland in semi finals and we WON. Coach Harlow showed faith in his girls and it paid off. (There aren't very many coaches as classy as Harlow). On the flip side of that, I watched a Rhea County boys team in 2004 that would never beat Bradley boys. Rhea County throw the game to Cleveland as I watched Aaron Green go ballistic. It paid off for Rhea, because they won substrate and played in state tourney. I am not a fan of throwing a game, but TSSAA needs to look closely at their rules and the way the handle postseason to avoid this happening.

  14. Some places allow homeschool kids to participate on PUBLIC school teams. Now, that makes that team part of a "private school."  But even worse!!!!!!  What about these places that are creating "homeschool" athletic teams?.. Are they going to be thrown into the private or public division if TSSAA allows them to enter. Personally, I don't want my child playing with or against a homeschool athlete. But mark my word, that will be an issue to be dealt with if this split occurs. Any public school that allows a homeschool athlete to participate in any sport should have to be in the private school division. After all, they also play by their own rules and standards.... This split and unfair thing is never going to satisfy people. Big schools are going to continue to gripe about open zoning... Small schools are going to continue to gripe about private schools, Girl's basketball fans are always going to gripe about Middle Tennessee advantages and about AAU recruits, and many will continue to blast homeschooled athletes.  It's never ending. The shame is that it is not the high school kids that are whining; it's the adults!!!!!
