  1. No I was thinking about Fulton City. But yes Fulton County usually has better athletes than Fulton City and are just as poorly coached. I did my student teaching at Fulton City and they have athletes walking the halls but not many kids were interested in basketball. I watched them practice one day and thought to myself, they could be much better than they are with better skills and coaching. The coach they had, I believe, is an assistant at Humboldt now.

Charles Dotson is the Assistant at Humboldt. He played at Humboldt, Jr College at Navarro in Texas, and at Texas State for a couple years. Then played pro ball in Mexico.

  2. Charles Taylor, Tevin Crayton, Rashad Wade, Jarvis Porter, Quenton Jennings, DeAndre Perry, and Joseph Gordon are Humboldt's 7 Seniors and 3 of them start. Between 7 of them, they scored 14 points in the WHOLE SECOND HALF. Quan Campbell is a Sophomore and needs all the experience he can get, so he's going to play more in the second half than some of the others.

Quan Campbell, a Sophomore, is the ONLY STARTER that scored in the WHOLE 4TH QUARTER for Humboldt!

Humboldt starters, other than Quan, SCORED A TOTAL OF 6 POINTS the ENTIRE SECOND HALF!!!!!

    Second Half Scoring:

    Charles Taylor - 2

    Tevin Crayton - 4

    Rashad Wade - 0

    Darren Dunbar - 0

    Jarvis Porter - 4

    Quenton Jennings - 0

    DeAndre Perry - 0

    Joseph Gordon - 4

  3. Ouch! That hurt!

Tell Coach Boykins way to run that score up, I hope it comes back and bites him before he retires! Up 40+ points and continue full court press. I lost respect, but they do have a good team and will go far. I hope Humboldt get's to go back to Memphis for sub-state!

Did you lose respect for Gibson County's girls coach when they pressed up by 30? Several of his starting 5 were still in with 3 minutes left in the 4th. /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

  4. Prather should knock CJ out of the top 5 then. He's not in the same class as those 5. Sorry if that offends some people, but that's my opinion. I've seen him play plenty over the last four years too. He is a good high school player and hard to stop, but he's not "Casey Prather good"!

  5. Humboldt won by around 10, but it should've been more. Humboldt's girls are a lot more athletic than any 1A team we've played this year, and they have the two best ballhandlers in the district, and maybe the best post player. /hungry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hungry:" border="0" alt="hungry.gif" />

  6. In the 4 regular season games this year Humboldt is averaging 90 points a game and allowing 43 points a game.

    PPG

    Taylor - 10

    Crayton - 11

    Wade - 11

    Campbell - 12

    Perry - 10

    Porter - 9

    Dunbar - 8

    Jennings - 7

    Brooks - 7

    Gordon - 4

    Game highs counting HOF games:

    Wade - 29

    Campbell - 24

    Campbell - 13

    Tevin - 16

    Tevin - 16

    Taylor - 15

A couple of the games, several of these kids have set out 2 quarters or more.

  7. Girls team was pretty dang rough back in the 80's when I played...got elbowed in the jaw, knocked it out of place. My coach popped it back in /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> went back in and played....then again that was when you could play with a bloody nose, knees without a health panic. We had no medics on the sides or trainers.

    The early 80's? /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" /> Just kidding.

  8. DC would give Humboldt fits with their press, that's for sure...Union City forced Humboldt into 31 turnovers and soph Tyler Stewart-Crume had 10 steals by himself..UC also had more offensive rebounds than Humboldt..I don't know if UC will beat Humboldt this year but I wouldn't think the Tornadoes would put up another 4 for 40 three point shooting night against them....

You mentioned Giles and Swift..Why would they not be playing now??

Humboldt had lots of unforced turnovers against Union City. Humboldt did not have a turnover in the backcourt against Union City's press until the 4th quarter. They did not take care of the ball at all once they got it past halfcourt. If they had've, it would have been a whole lot worse.

  9. hmmmm. Seen humboldt over the weekend and they looked very bad. Lost to Liberty by 20 but the lead before the subs came in was 30 by liberty. And Boliver was up by 15 without chris Reaves. So i think that the heights or over rated if u ask me.

Liberty was never up by 30 and Bolivar wasn't up by 15. Humboldt led almost the entire Bolivar game. If you are going to report on something, report facts! I think you have some players confused!

  10. (4) Humboldt: As many athletes as just about any team that played with the exception of Melrose. Taylor and Crayton have considerable talent and skill. Both could end up D1..Taylor for sure. The other player for Humboldt that really impressed me was the little (and I mean Little) guard, left handed. This kid has some serious range. He had the green light to shoot when open and did not dissapoint. If the Humboldt coach would simply take a hard line with this team as far as discipline they would be hard for anybody to stop. I saw way to many instances of the two big guys getting frustrated when they werent getting the ball....nothing out of line, just not the type of thing you like to see. Ive seen Humboldt every season for years (usually ony two or three times) and I would say this could be the most talented team they have had in quite some time. Humboldt showed they could play some really really good defense..that isn't the concern. They just need to work on all being on the same page. I know it's early and the first game hasen't even been played but this is typical of what I have seen in the past. If this team gets focused and has one midset they are going to be something else..especially since they play in single A. Having said that, those that think they may challenge Manassas...they have a ways to go to get to that level. That may be unfair to say that though becuase Manassas is simply the cream of the crop in Single A. Humboldt is not at the same level as Manassas in my opinion. With one midset and total focus to the team aspect they may have a shot though...who knows? I don't know enough about Lake County like others but If Lake County can match up with the Humbolt athletes and has some shooters they could beat Humboldt but it will be a tough task. Was told by a recruiting analyst that the Avery kid from Lake County is a for sure mid major talent.

Humboldt played about as sorry and out of sync as possible the first two games. Never got into the flow of the game, but Bolivar and Liberty probably had a little to do with that.

The "little" left handed guard is Antonio Brooks. He is a 5'2 Freshman, but he doesn't know it /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> He's going to give people fits the next couple years! He hit 5 threes in the first half the last game against Austin-East. Humboldt beat them by over 20.

  11. The Huntingdon Mustang football program should be proud to have Eric Swenson. It was proven before Swenson came back to take Head Coach that he was special. That was proven by one of the ALL TIME biggest thrashing of David Lipscomp. I believe Huntingdon knocked off 3 undefeated teams to win the State Championship that year. Lewis County was 12-0, Milan was 13-0, and Lipscomb was 14-0 ( 29-0 before that point because they went 15-0 the year before that). Then a Swenson led team blew them out 48-14.

Its important that the current Mustang players understand who exactly their head coach is. If they do understand that Eric Swenson will take them back to the top the everything will take care of itself.

If I know Eric, he will have a master plan for the team they play this week eventhough they went 5-5. I will be waiting patiently in East Tennessee to see how this weeks game comes out.

    Sincerely

    A Believer in Eric Swenson

I think a few more may be believers after tonight.

  12. Congratulations to Huntingdon and a young man named Holder that had the game of his life! Holder had 37 carries for 475 yards and 6 Touchdowns! This will be a big game he will never forget! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" /> /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
