Good Season for WR in their first year. Coach Hilton and staff deserve a lot of credit for getting the buy in that they did from a team combined from 3 rivals.

Looking forward though, theyre going to have to make some changes to the O if they ever want to be serious about winning the region, or making a deep run in the playoffs. This offense is just so limited that teams like Maryville, SH, Oakland with more explosive offenses are big trouble.

The credit goes to the young men who have some size, speed, talent and worked hard.  Congrats on the inaugural season.
However, this program will always be limited by this coaching staff, protected by their chunky buddy AD.  That offense is the worst and a good team just showed y’all how bad it is. When the coaching staff is the obvious weak link, the program will ebb and flow in the coming years, based solely on the talent level, just like those Sully Rebs did.

  2. Ole Stacy had talent at Sully South and left after the 2009 season. The talent dropped off a bunch for years after the 2010 bunch graduated, and ole Stac saw it coming. Not a great coach, unless you consider whining and crying good coaching. Dude has a ton of raw talent at Science Hill. We always heard, just wait until he gets all the talent that walks the halls onto the field. Well, he’s had 12 years, with his hand picked coaching staff of buddies. Accept it, he’s completely dependent on the talent, and there aren’t any Curt Phillips in JC to carry the program. I do think the kids in JC are soft.  The Toppers should just be better. Worst fan base in all of East Tennessee.

  3. Congrats on a good football season.  Honestly don’t feel this was one of the most talented Tribe teams but they came to play this year. I hope the good people of Kingsport see now what a good HC they have in Christian. You all need to get behind him. No crazy Mayberry jokes and he doesn’t even have a Coach Watson like the coach before that had. Doesn’t get much better. Best HC you’ve had in decades. Get behind the guy.
    Next year’s team is promising.

West Ridge is physical and well coached. They have done very well in the first year, but they don’t have enough speed to play with Maryville.

Very happy for West Ridge kids for exceeding expectations and shutting up some pundits.  I do think they should get better as the kids from the old schools gel and become one.  There is talent up in those hills. But since the South AD got hired it was obvious that it would be a lil hilton and his cronies.  Sorry, but they just aren’t a very good coaching staff and extremely predictable. They had a decent Offensive coach once but I think he is just coaching girls basketball now.  The Reb program had been blessed with talent since about 2005.  There has been a scattered bunch of talent at the other two schools as well, but just not enough.  Not an offensive mind in the bunch of coaches.  Dem Rebs would have put up a lot more points through the years if they had an OC. Weak bunch of coaches imo. They brought in lil robbie to run that slow, extremely one dimensional Sully North offense.  Such a shame. Watch 10 plays and you know how to defend that. They do have some horses on the line though, as others have pointed out.  This offense is just North on hypothetical steroids though.  All you need to do is pull old North video and then assume lil hilton will throw quick screens to his slot receiver 3-4 times a game. Nothing across the middle. No out pattens. No timing routes. No use of TEs.  They might throw long a couple times on a streak. Basic. Predictable.  A team with depth and some talent, will shut em down, as DB did. Geez, go watch what the quality Volunteer qb did to their poor defensive scheme in game one.  Again, not putting down the kids. But the good ole boys coaching staff… wow.
I hope some day WR gets a real coaching staff and not a bunch of Homers. Starts with getting that arrogant chunk of an AD to step down.
The Wolves will travel well, for sure. Good bunch of parents and fans.  Always polite and welcoming to me when I saw games at SS and SN, and two WR games at home this year.
With all these facts laid out, I truly hope WR upsets Murlville. I do.  Just give the credit to who deserves it.  But, Maryville 49 West Ridge 20.

  5. No clue what crap is being stirred by whiney parents, but you city folk better batten down the hatches and hold on to the coaching staff you have. They have that ship on course for the first time in years. People need to leave the coaches alone now and let them work and build that program. I hope you all are now seeing what you had in Deputy Clark from Mayberry now that he has been gone a while. He was allowed years and years and he set you all back from where you should have been.  For the first time since I have been living in East Tennessee, I think Kingsport has the right man at the helm.

This could change as we get closer to the 2021 season and see what everyone else has,   but here would be a guess as to West Ridge's first season:

    @ Volunteer.......(win  1-0)
    @ Daniel Boone....(win  2-0)
    Science Hill......(loss 2-1)
    @ Dobyns-Bennett..(loss 2-2)
    @ Cherokee........(win  3-2)
    @ William Blount..(loss 3-3)
    @ David Crockett..(loss 3-4)
    Morristown East...(win  4-4)
    Tennessee.........(loss 4-5)
    Jefferson County..(win  5-5)

I don't see this combined Sullivan co team beating Boone this early. I'm going 4-6 at best.  Jenkins is a heck of a coach who plays a murders row schedule.  He gets the most from his players. If he had had the talent that was at South all these years, he would have had more success than Carter and certainly Hilton/Haney.

I think it will come down to coaching and as you said, keeping the talent there.Like they say,"If you build it ".South has gone deep in the playoffs before and just a short time ago,North had a very fine team when an old friends son was the QB over there.Central's feeder school holston has had some great teams and much of the talent went to South ,DB ,TH and so on.So, and not a play on your screen name because you might be an East fan. If they can get a staff like Greeneville and Elizabethton have done, then this could turn into a big powerhouse school like  Jeff county use to be,if they get average coaches, then this will be what Jeff county turned into. There is a bunch of talent every year in Sullivan county, they just need someone that doesn't have their head up their backside to lead them.

Very good thoughts, Bat.  There has indeed been talent in Sullivan Co in the past. Talent alone at South is what took them deep into the playoffs all those years, not coaching.  You are spot on, with the two directions West Ridge could have gone with with their coaching staffs.  Unfortunately, by hiring South AD Richardson as the AD, this put them on the path of the good ole boy modis operandi. Now, as expected, they hired Justin Hilton.  Talk about riding the talent along.  Heck, Carter rode that Colonial Heights talent too, and was smart enough to get off at the right time and go to Science Hill.  All the Rebel alumni will praise the choice on Facebook and Twitter, but they have chosen a path of mediocrity for the unforeseeable future. I'm sure they will pipe in on my little rant here.  Batman, West Ridge won't even be Jeff County, with Hilton and his toadies, they have chosen to be the 6A Volunteer. It's such a shame, as they had the opportunity to avoid that good ole boy stuff. Nope, Richardson and Hilton. Next move:  Hilton bringing his boys along on the staff.

Absolutely the dumbest post I've read on here this year. Get back with us when you get a clue. Dang.

Wait and see if history does not prove me right. Waco.  I've said something that none of you want to hear in Kingsport.  You just don't have the talent to compete with competition you play as a huge high school. It's consistently been that way.  You do recall people saying "one and done", right?  That was back when you didn't have to play other schools at your enrollment level. Now you lose half or more of your games and are lucky to make the playoffs. Sorry you think I'm dumb.  Deep down, you all know it. You can feel it.  Maybe you should try supporting coaches and ADs that are really good.

  9. Sometimes, when I hear 'fans' complaining about coaching, I wonder is it possible, could it possibly be, not that you will accept it, that your kids just aren't as talented as their competition??  (*Hint - they're not)

I personally don't think Dobyns Bennett will EVER be better than a .500 team again, because they are now playing schools of their own size. Talent in Kingsport will not be better than talent in Knoxville, Oak Ridge, Maryville, etc.  I'm afraid you're destined for perpetual mediocrity.

But keep blaming the coaches.  You don't know what you have in the AD and HC there. Put your HC at North or South, and both those programs improve dramatically. The AD would be a huge upgrade for South.  Personally, I'd like to see HC JC at the new Sullivan County school, because there isn't a single coach in the Sullivan County school system now that needs to continue coaching at the new school. The guy deserves 6 figures.

    Chew on dat, Indian "Faithful".

Gotta have Ballard over Everett lol

Thread asked for top two players from each team. We aren't comparing players from different schools. Ballard has worked extremely hard, its obvious.  He deserves his appointment to West Point. All NET is happy for him and all kids who get to go to college free.  But in regards to passing yards / qb play, he has benefited from a ton of quality players around him. Not the kind of athlete Cobb at  Alcoa, Phillips from South, or even Ferguson at DB was.  He's like a little Frasier (former qb at Nebraska). But a lot of the passing yards are quick hits to Goddard and others. Goddard and others athleticism and speed, along with good team blocking accounts for a lot of the stats.  I've seen them many times. Thus, I don't consider Ballard top two on the Devils' squad. He will change positions in college and run a lot of special teams and can do well.  I do congratulate the young man. He's a very good high school qb.

So yes, Goddard and Youngblood are the top two Greene Devil's.  Both have a high ceiling.

    Lol

Don't think he said ever said it was a bad call. He did say that "our kids didn't deserve that" and that "Our kids deserved to win".

Big difference and a problem they've had over there for a long time. We are DB, so we deserve it!

Splitting hairs, my friend.  It's obvious to all what Coach Clark meant.  The FACT that he was jogging to try to "talk to" the referees after the game, may color that for ya a bit.  He thought the call was wrong, and that they were wronged, and the fact is, Clark is wrong.  No Mayberry jokes this week.

  12. Clark is already blaming this on the refs in the Kingsport paper.  Wow, how low can you go?

    Quoting the K T-N:

“I don’t know when I’ve ever been more heartbroken for a bunch of kids that played their hearts out,” said an emotional Graham Clark, D-B’s coach. “Our kids deserved to win that football game. We break up a pass on fourth down. They got one taken from them they deserved to win.”

    and:

“We had two red-zone failures, got just three points out of those,” Clark said. “Did we need to make one or two more plays to win? Yes. Did we need to make one more first down? Yes. Then to get that penalty called, our kids didn’t deserve that.”

I was at the game, sitting on the home side, on the baseball field end, with an excellent view of Clark's penalty that he is busting on.  The DB kid had wrapped the Alcoa receiver with his offside arm and took him down to the turf.  He was beat and got caught.  Coach Clark needs to stop playing his little blame game, issue an apology and consider stepping down.  He can take that "Winningest Program in Tennessee" home with him too.  Wow, poor character.

  13. Guys, I didn't even see the play.  I'm just helping you out on the rule.  MOST people do not know what constitutes OPI and DPI, as displayed here.  Most people's information is outdated, just like DeeJay's.  Last year, DeeJay would have been correct.  This year he's incorrect.  Heck most people still think DPI is an automatic first down and OPI is loss of down. ...uh, no.  Wouldn't you like to know the real rule, so you all can at least argue it ...correctly?

(BTW, there's no friggin' "tackle box" for the high school QB to get out, to allow him to throw the ball away.  It's called Intentional Grounding.  Just another rule that most people yell and scream about, and haven't a clue.)

  14. On 8/23/2017 at 11:09 PM, BVDevil said:

thanks for this DeeJay.....in essence, that rule backs up what i said in my video....." if you get in someones way, that pass interference, that's the rule ".....or something to that effect.

Well, DeeJay is wrong.  Face Guarding is allowed in high school now (again, rule change this season fellas), so evidently contact must have been made for the pass interference call.

  15. On 8/23/2017 at 10:04 AM, DeeJay32 said:

In watching the play live and numerous times since, it is pretty clear that the DB defensive back was face guarding Greeneville 's receiver, and that is why the penalty was called.  I understand people are upset because the contact made by the defensive back was minimal, but face guarding without contact is a penalty at the high school level.  Rule 7-5-10-b, page 62 of the National Federation of State High School Associations reads:  “Any player who hinders an opponent’s vision without making an attempt to catch, intercept or bat the ball, even though no contact was made … is forward pass interference.”

In other words, a high school defender must make a play on the ball – or at least be looking back at the ball – and not just throw his hands up and attempt to get in the way.  That is exactly what the DB cornerback did; he never looked back to attempt to make a play on the ball, but rather, put his hands up with his back to the QB.

While there might have been missed penalties in that game, this alleged pass interference was not one of them.

Wrong .... face guarding without contact is NOT a penalty this year.  Rule change this season.  Need to get a new rulebook like I did.  The high school rule follows closely to the college rule.

12 would be a perfect number of wins if DB can lose 3 regular season games as well.

Dobyns-Bennett will be 4-6 in 2017, with wins against Sevier County, Bearden, Hardin Valley, and Jefferson County.  Maryville will become the all-time winningest program in Tennessee (playing real schedules to boot, over the last few decades).  409 Mayberry jokes will be told by Coach Clarke in 2017, as he deflects real issues.
