  1. To answer the original question about rankings, the first AP poll will be released Monday. Everyone may begin criticism of us at that time. All rankings are criticized and everyone has an opinion. No, we can't see teams all across the state, even under normal conditions few people do. But the voters represent all parts of the state and share information with each other. It is as accurate as the information that's shared. When you compare final rankings to who makes the final 8 it stands up pretty well. Glad we have a season at all to disagree about.

Class A- Gibson County tough schedule will help against other tough West Tn teams McKenzie, Union City, and Peabody! Out of them 4 I will take GC & McKenzie to represent West Tn in Murfreesboro! Lorotto, Summertown, Clarkrange will all be in Murfreesboro!

McKenzie is in Region 6 with Loretto & Summertown so all three can't reach Murfreesboro. If the Lady Rebels were in Region 7 they might be favored. With John WIlkins at the helm now and so many teams moving to the new AA next year, McKenzie could be a regular in the future.

Yes sir both ran a faster 40 time. Sep was the fastest on that team.

Great bunch of athletes and kids overall. Blessed to coach them in middle school. Should've won a gold ball their senior year in 2006. Let JCS out of Tiptonville with a "gift victory." Eagles then boat raced Mt. Pleasant in semis and beat Friendship Chr. in an All-Private final. Tough pill to swallow back then. Last years title helped erase some bad taste.

Fun fact Springer was actually the 3rd fastest guy on that team based on 40. Our RB and Wr both were faster in the 40. Spring had great game speed though and played so much faster than he actually was. He was really shifty.

    Was that Quan and Sep?

I was reading where District12AA was wanting three Memphis districts in 2A but pioneer42 didn't want that because of a West TN district and a Middle TN district would be in the same region, meaning too much travel. I've come up with this compromise that will keep the west with the west and multiple Memphis districts. This is just me thinking out loud. I don't think it will happen. Here it is, what do you think?

    CLASS 2A

DISTRICT 1: Union Co, Cumberland Gap, West Greene, South Green, Happy Valley, Chuckey Doak, Johnson Co, LN STEM

DISTRICT 2: Gatlinburg-Pittman, Pigeon Forge, Loudon, Alcoa, Kingston

DISTRICT 3: Sweetwater, Tellico Plains, Polk Co, McMinn Central

DISTRICT 4: Tyner, Brainerd, Chatt. Arts & Sciences, Meigs Co

DISTRICT 5: Grundy Co, Sequatchie Co, Bledsoe Co, Marion Co

DISTRICT 6: Jackson Co, Smith Co, Watertown, Cannon Co, York, Monterey

DISTRICT 7: Westmoreland, Cheatham Co, Harpeth, White House Heritage, Sycamore

DISTRICT 8: Stratford, Whites Creek, Fairview, KIPP, Republic, Pearl Cohn, East Nashville, LEAD

DISTRICT 9: Lewis Co, Waverly, Camden, East Hickman, Hickman Co, Stewart Co

DISTRICT 10: Mt. Pleasant, Summertown, Loretto, Cascade, Forrest, Community, Giles Co

DISTRICT 11: Huntingdon, Milan, Union City, Gibson Co, Westview

DISTRICT 12: Adamsville, Riverside, Scotts Hill, Bolivar, Madison Magnet

DISTRICT 13-16: Each district has four teams from Memphis

District 1 and maybe another might need some adjustment but I had thought about something like this as well. There are pros & cons to merging rural west with midwest for sectional games. The first sub-state game I ever broadcast was 1979 when Westview girls visited Giles County. Unfortunately classification is the same for both girls and boys. This setup would allow only two teams to advance from Regions 9-12. That would be a shame if you look at the programs that would be meeting in the sectional. Girls teams from Memphis below AAA that made state have been few/far between recently.

On the other hand, rural west boys teams would surely welcome not having to advance into a sectional with a Memphis team and would have a better shot at the Glass House.

My guess, based on previous experience, is Memphis will stay in one region in the lower classifications.

From what I'm hearing Mckenzie will choose to play in 2A if the other option is taking Huntingdon's spot in the 1A region and playing half their games across the river.

Adjustment with Rockwood likely puts Halls/Peabody in Class A. Tide will move up but think Halls would welcome Class A. This could influence where McKenzie ends up for sure.

With 329 Schools playing basketball. I have the cut off for Single A at 399. That puts 82 schools in single A.

I have double checked my list and still only have 328 basketball schools. I guess I've missed someone but here's why the number is important. With Loretto/Summertown adjusted now, does the extra school go in Class A? If so, Huntingdon remains in Single A.

Dyer County will be AAA if they are smart. Dodge Riverdale, Arlington, Memphis Central, Houston. With Dyersburg they have a good boys program too. Westview might have jumped if it not for their boys. Think Dyersburg would be top dog in district with Obion,  South Gibson, Dyer County and Crockett County.

Dyer County is just where McCord wants them. He's campaigned for four classes all along. I was hoping Dyersburg would be AAA if, for no other reason, Trojans and Choctaws would have to play each other. Great rivalry that's been missing. Kids want it, adults just need to behave.

You would have to have 2 districts for Region 7 and you would have to have another district to join across the river for Region 6. Or are you thinking Camden and Huntingdon get together with Waverly, Hickman County, Lewis County and maybe East Hickman and form a district??

Yes, Camden has been in a district across the river for several years. Best guess is Camden/Huntingdon are in Dist. 11 with Waverly & Stewart Co. at the very least. The two Hickman schools may be there two. Would expect Lewis Co. to be in Dist. 12. May end up totally wrong but I've dealt with TSSAA for 40 years and have some feel for the process they use.

The only question IMO is where Dyersburg ends up. I think they are AA unless they play up. I think a lot of the early projections had schools on there that didn’t play basketball etc...Think today’s are more accurate. Think that GC, Westview, Union City, Huntingdon, Milan, Camden, Dyersburg ????, Madison, Scott’s Hill, Decatur County, Adamsville, Haywood and Bolivar will all be AA.

If the only adjustments are in the Lawrence Co. schools, I believe Dyersburg is at top of AA. You have to look at the whole state when projecting districts. TSSAA will, to some extent, try to balance numbers. AA will lean west some so I expect Huntingdon & Camden to continue to be shipped east and be Region 6 teams. The question in AA West is will Haywood be in 13 or 14. My experience is they use longitude so I expect Haywood to be in 13 with Westview, Union City, Milan, Dyersburg, & Gibson Co.

  11. People are questioning the drop in enrollment for a few schools as to whether its a clerical error. I've got to raise the question again, where did all these kids come from in Shelby County schools? 9 schools reported a total decrease of 933 students. The other 37 schools reported a total increase of 4,675. That's an increase of 3,742! Most of the increases were at schools who have been dropping over the past decade. If they're correct I'm glad to see these schools thriving once again. But, if there was unintended misreporting, that many schools changing could greatly influence where schools are going to fall!

After going back over the list, and cross referencing the D2 schools and the schools that do not play basketball. I have the same thing for A. I have

A - Clinch High School - Oneida High School

AA - Monterey High School - Hamilton High School

AAA - Raleigh Egypt - Knoxville Central

AAAA - Mt. Juliet - Colierville

I did 82 schools in A, AA, and AAA and 81 schools in AAAA so it may be off by 1 school depending on who gets 81

    327 schools

I have 328 total which would be an even 82 in each. Double checked it against member directory for sponsored sports. Unless a school declares to add basketball for next year I think that's the number. Going to hold off on who's on the bubble because I believe at least one school's real number will put them in a higher class.

Memphis Business played in 2019. Not sure if they dropped football or not, or just not playing due to COVID.

I see that now here on CoachT. They don't have football in their member directory so don't know whether to count them or not. All our speculation may be for nothing if some schools numbers are not right yet.

  14. As I plugged in the new enrollments there are some interesting changes in two years. Differences in the three Lawrence County schools have already been addressed and according to JVaughn this was a numbers mistake from the system office that will be fixed.

There are several other schools with large drops. Some were caused by opening of new schools. Others are curious. Here in West Tennessee, I notice Riverside and Camden both down 88 students, while Haywood dropped by 189. Not sure what would explain these large swings. Apparently Liberty’s decrease went to Northside/South Side. Someone elsewhere might have insight to decreases from schools like Red Boiling Springs, Whites Creek, Grundy Co., Union Co., Station Camp, Chattanooga Central, & Ooltewah

What may be most amazing to me is the apparent influx of students into Memphis City schools. Used to shifting enrollments there but not these type changes. The following schools showed significant increases from two years ago.

    BT Washington 205-345
    Soulsville Charter 256-356
    Westwood 269-373
    Oakhaven 315-398
    KIPP Memphis 402-485
    Freedom Prep 310-508
    Crosstown 369-535
    East 345-544
    Mem. Business 402-563
    Trezevant 387-563
    Power Center 421-651
    Douglass 500-666
    Hamilton 362-704
    Raleigh-Egypt 515-716
    Melrose 523-791
    Overton 1060-1329
    Kingsbury 1180-1334
    Codova 1933-2252

Don’t think anyone has intentionally skewed the numbers but believe TSSAA may still have some work to do before they can take next step toward classification.
