  1. Everyone has their opinions on here but here are some facts and numbers to help formulate them.

Covington is #2 in defense in the state, giving up 33.8 ppg. Westview is 3rd, allowing 34.2. Could be a low scoring affair.

Covington had won 12 straight before Wednesday's loss to Melrose. They won four of those games without PG Kalynn Howard. She has been back in postseason.

Westview has won 15 consecutive games and held their opponents during that time to 29.1 ppg.

    Common Opponents:
Fayette-Ware: WV won on road 54-27, Cov  won 51-31 on road &  52-33 at home
Union City: WV won 50-25 at home & lost 54-52 on road. Cov won 49-46 at home & lost 42-34 on road
Gibson Co.: WV lost 45-36 at home, Cov won 48-40 on road.
Both Westview losses above were without Alexis Callins. They are unbeaten with her playing.

Coach Wilkins is an amazing coach....no starters back from last year's Gold Ball team (Macy Neal was back but she blew out her knee a couple of weeks ago)....I'm sure Greenfield will spank them in the region championship game but they could be headed back to the 'Boro...

Anything can happen but it has been 33 years since Shelby Co sent a Class A girls team to state. That was Bolton when they had great Class A girls & boys programs. Getting to Region 7A finals all but assures you a spot in the Final 8.

Oh ok I am 32 so I can’t recall any of the 3 lol do you know the years he went?

My records only go back to the 75-76 season. Not sure Lott's 1st year but he was there then. Made 5 appearances at state; 76&77 AAA & 87, 92,93 AA. Made semifinals in 77 & 93. McNairy made 4 straight appearances in the old Large Class, 71-74 but pretty sure that was before Jerry.

I see that! Was both teams holding the ball? Or was it just an off night for both teams? I see it was 40-37  SG. District 13AA I am still going with dyersburg or Crockett Co

Good defense by both teams most of the night. Westview led entire game, by as many as 9 three times. So. Gibson extended their defense and made some shots in the 4th quarter to tie it in final minute. Westview got the shot they wanted but it was blocked, caught and timeout was called immediately. Heads up by Bedwell to do that. Cross banks in a contested shot from 35 feet for the win. No gimmies in 13AA boys.

Unless something has recently changed, each district is left to decide how their tournament is formatted. Each district has a meeting to decide amongst themselves, thus there's no "set" way to do it. One district (now defunct) that we were part of years back voted to rotate, but most that I'm familiar with "bid" to host, and how to split revenue. I personally enjoyed rotation... it gave every school an opportunity to shine if they chose to do so, and I also enjoy experiencing all the diverse sub cultures and traditions visiting schools that we don't schedule for their tournaments.

District tournaments are totally autonomous. The TSSAA doesn't even require a district tournament. A district COULD just send it's top 4 from regular season to the region. They obviously won't because of additional revenue and the chance for upsets but each district can totally decide for themselves how to organize their district tournament and where it is held.

Interesting..... 4 classes of basketball in Tennessee does seem a bit too much to me, but I understand it gives more teams an opportunity to get there. I would be interested in seeing how they did the state tournament. If I remember right, I was told that the games would begin on Tuesday instead of Wednesday?

Not sure what the format may be if approved. 7 additional games would require starting on Tuesday. They last did that when Division 2 played the same week.

I think it's time to figure out a way to cut out 81 students.....

Be careful what you wish for. GC's road to Murfreesboro could be easier in 2A of four. Most of the best girls programs in the West will either remain A or be in a new 3A based on projections. Westview & Union City would be likely district mates and might be only challengers to state. Once there, Loretto & Summertown would still be around along with Meigs Co. & South Greene. Not many powerhouses expected statewide either.

I think if it stays like it is we will be Single A at 470 ish. 500 is the minimum for AA right? Will be interesting for sure.

There is no minimum. Competing schools are divided evenly by the number of classes. Charter schools in Memphis make things so unpredictable. Schools opening and closing all the time and students moving around make numbers fluctuate wildly.

Using 2018 enrollment, GC's 481 would make it just below the cut to stay in Class A in the current format. Four classes would put cut around 400.

Going to be interesting to see what happens. GC will have more talent, IMO in 2021 than they did last year when we won it. I personally wish it stays three classes. GC will compete at a high level I am sure but this definitely, IMO won’t help them win more titles.

Based on projections, GC would be on the bubble in 3 classes and would be in 2A in four classes.

They are 100% eligible for this award.  Lakeway Christian Academy is a member school of the TSSAA.  We cannot participate in the postseason this year because we are an affiliate member until the 2020-2021 season.  But we have received word from the TSSAA that our student athletes are eligible for this award.  We simply would like for them to be considered.  Thanks.

    Good to know.

So 5 players in Class A have played in the SEC in the last 33 years and you say it is not much of jump. I think the sheer number alone should be enough to show it is a major jump in talent level.

Those are just five I know of right off. May be the only ones. Not going to argue the numbers or how much of a jump it is. There have been plenty of Class A kids who have chosen mid-major or NAIA because of various reasons who could have played in a Power conference. Yes, it IS a big jump in competition level for MOST Class A players. I said it was NOT as much for the elite players, ones who played serious schedules in high school & played high level AAU ball.

The thread is about Chloe. She is capable of playing in a Power conference if she chooses too. If she does not, she will excel wherever she makes her choice because of the quality of person she is.

You can count on one hand the number of Class A players from TN that have played in the SEC.

Not an expert on college destinations from across the state but a bit of cursory research turned up these facts. In addition to the aforementioned Tess Darby, headed to Tennessee, I count 4 Class A Miss Basketball winners who played in the SEC.

    1986 Lynn Stevenson      Richland        Auburn

    1995 Brynae Laxton        Oneida          Tennessee

    1999 Ashley McElhiney   Gleason         Vanderbilt

2013 Jaycee Coe               Jackson Co.    Kentucky

That fills up one hand. Off the top of my head I can add Tiffany Adkins from Gibson Co. who started her career at Ole Miss. These are just SEC players from Class A. Know of some others who've gone to other power conferences such as ACC & Big 10. Not much of a jump for the best in Class A.

As far as what Chloe does will be what is best for her and her family. We should not be concerned with it.
