1. QUOTE(norton_65 @ Mar 12 2007 - 09:24 AM) 826408777Evans is going to James Madison

The two young ladies that are going to Tn Tech are: Mandy Medenhall of Harpeth and Jasmine White of Smyrna.

The player from Clarksville High is Valerie Bronson and she is going to David Lipscomb

  2. QUOTE(greenevillefan @ Mar 14 2007 - 09:31 AM) 826411285I disagree about the AAU preparing a player for college better than the high school. It really depends on the type of coach you have at the high school. I have seen many players play in the AAU and have come back to the high school and not be able to play any better on the defensive end. I think that AAU play is faster and allows the players to score, but it does not help out much on their defense. The shot clock has too many costs involved with it. All the schools can not afford to have shot clocks installed. Plus the purpose of high school sports is not to develop the next Michael Jordan or the next Peyton Manning. High school sports are there to develop some life lessons that help young people mature as they get older. Along the way you might have an athlete that will earn a scholorship off of their ability. This world has put too much importance on winning at the High School Level.

Good points, so I'll agree to disagree.

  3. QUOTE(greenevillefan @ Mar 12 2007 - 09:18 AM) 826408766That will be hard to do unless they have a player like Evans.

Congratulations to Northeast on a good season.

greenvillefan, Your team, your coaches, and your fans are a class act. I am a

Clarksville-Northeast fan and I want to congratulate you on a great season. However, from what I witnessed this year, I have no doubt that you will be there again next year. Good luck next year.

  4. QUOTE(Ticket @ Mar 10 2007 - 05:24 AM) 826407061“We see a lot of those types of ballplayers in Memphis, so it was nothing really because we see those types and we adjust to it,” said Memphis Northside Coach Donald Holmes, referring to his team’s ability to contain Evans.

“I looked at that team (Northeast) last night, and they were a one-man show, so we usually stop one-man shows.”

    And your point is???????

  5. QUOTE(bulldawg-fan @ Mar 13 2007 - 06:17 PM) 826410581I disagree with a shot clock. The team that wins the game should be the team that comes in fundamentaley sound, works hard, and has the best strategy. If you have a shot clock it will make teams start throwing the ball at the basket and as the old saying goes, "even a blind squirrel can find a nut." I would say step up the defense, get out of the zone, and get in somebody's face. A lot of people that witnessed the Championship game on Saturday said Gleason stalled the ball. I myself, would call it very good time managment. When Gleason was on defense where were they, in the face of the offense. Bottom line, step up the defense, and get in the face of the offense and I bet you will see turnovers or shots at the basket in under a min.

Now, I will agree, that high scoring games are more fun to watch and a shot clock would probably generate higher scores. Entertainment for the fans is a benefit of the game, but the object is to win. I have seen comments where people said the game was boring. I suppose the girls could have said OMG the fans find this boring. Lets start throwing the ball up at the basket every 30 secs and keep them happy win or lose. I think not, their goal was to win and believe it or not the Gleason fans found it very entertaining. It's always fun watching our girls take a defense to school. Save TSSAA some money and learn to play better defense.

bulldawg fan, you sound as if there is no strategy in a game with a shot clock. Colleges have been doing it for years and there is plenty of strategy. The bottom line is that the shot clock favors the less talented and inferior player. You, like so many others want things to stay the same so less talented players will have equality in a sport that thrives on talent. If girls high school basketball is going to grow, then it must adapt. Why do you think so many players are attracted to AAU basketball? The speed of the game, that's why. Besides, this is the very next level to college basketball. These young ladies need to be prepared for the college game. It doesn't make sense to be this close to the college level and still not have a shot clock. That is why AAU prepares these players far better for collge b-ball than does high school. So let's stop being selfish and do what is right for the high school player. Put in the shot clock!!

  6. QUOTE(RENO911 @ Mar 9 2007 - 09:51 AM) 826406047If its a basketball game then RIVERDALE wins,,,, If it turns into a track meet then Memphis East wins... I think that Anne Marie will put the team on her shoulders and pull out the win. Memphis East has better athletes but basketball players win the big games not athletes. Riverdale by 8.

Why is it when a team has a lot of athleticism, they are always categorized as non-basketball players? If it's up tempo, then it's a track meet. If it's a basketball game, then Riverdale will wins. What the heck does that mean? Here's a news flash!! I will be a basketball game and quite probably a very good one. It is possible for athletic teams to be just as sound and fudamental as the SLOW AND PLODDING teams. There are obvious reasons that many people criticize athletic teams but I won't stoop that low. Even though I am rooting for Riverdale because they represent my area, Middle Tn, Memphis East is very well coached and they are just as fudamentally sound as any good team in the state. They just happen to bo loaded with a bunch of very gifted athletes. So get off of that basketball players vs athletes crap.

you are right maybe one of these days SOMEONE WILL HAVE SOME CLASS! Hillsboro, Upperman, Antioch, Beech, Livingston Academy, Smyrna are the teams that beat us during regular season! they beat us with sucky refs but they were the better team that night! all i have to say to you is the following! brentwood was district champs and region champs!! what was NE---for the record TSSAA is so stupid...how can a team lose in the tournament and still go to state...where i am from and MOST PLACE IN THE world ,ITS: one and done. THAT MEANS one game elimination for your tiny brain. BUT I GUESS IN TENNESSEE SECOND TIME IS THE CHARM....FOR THE RECORD I WOULD HAVE 29 POINTS TOO IF THE REFS LET ME SHOOT 40 FREETHROWS...she's good but she ain't that good. SO YOU CAN MAKE AN ARGUMENT ABOUT WHO WAS THE BETTER TEAM WHEN NE BEATS BRENTWOOD WHEN THEY ARE DISTRICT AND REGION CHAMPS AND NOT THAT THEY LOST AND STILL GET TO GO TO STATE. BECAUSE TRUTH OF A MATTER IS THE TEAM THAT WE PLAYED AND BEAT IN THE REGION CHAMPIONSHIP GAME...BEAT THE TEAM THAT YOU COULDN'T...SO STOP TALKING AND NOT TO YOU BUT TO THE NE TEAM....GOOD LUCK AT STATE!

throw it up, thanks for letting me know that I have such a tiny brain. I was wondering why I was having such a hard time figuring out why you can't accept a loss. At least now I know it's because my brain is so tiny. So now the reason you are not going to state is because of the TSSAA set-up. All the years the set-up has been the same but this year it's a problem because Northeast didn't win their region and they beat you. Antioch didn't win their region either and they are going to state also. If you would do a little checking, you will find out that Wilson Central lost in the regional championship and they went on to win the state and so did Mt. Juliet the year before. Since I'm sure, your brain is soooo much larger than mine, that we be no problem for you to check. I don't want to throw stones here. I really don't. The Brentwood girls are very good team and one that I have tremendous respect for. We were very fortunate to get past them. However, the bottom line is, that for whatever reason we did win. It's just a shame that we can't get proper respect for that. You have a right to be proud of your team and maybe if most return next year, they will be knocking on the door again but I do appreciate the well wishes for our team, whether you're sincere or not. One other thing, Dawn Evans is that good and then some but you don't have to worry about her next year, she'll be to busy playing Division I basketbll. She was 14 for 18 in free throws but I sure she would have been happy to shoot 40 though.

  8. QUOTE(impossible.is.nothing @ Mar 4 2007 - 04:10 PM) 826399547Dawn is a great player, but I've seen her being guarded by 3 people & wouldn't give the ball up to her team. She is still a incredible player, but needs to work more with a team.

Evans is averaging nearly 8 assists per game. That seems pretty team oriented to me. You have right to your opinion and I can respect that but you probably need to see more than a couple of her games before you make that kind of assessment. That statement implies that she is a selfish ballplayer, which could not be further from the truth. Dawn Evans has had 10 or more assists in 9 games this season and has come within 1 or 2 of having double digit assists in 12 other games. If that is not an indication of teamwork; then what is? Besides that, the time when you said she was being gaurded by 2 and 3 people, the coach instructed her to keep the ball in her hands. Being an 84% foul shooter and having the ball handling skills enable her to do that. I don't know about you but that sounds like a good coaching strategy to me. In case you were not aware of it, the game this season when she scored 53 points, she also had 12 assists. It takes an awful lot of passing to put up those kind of assists numbers. How do I know, you may ask? I keep the stats..

  9. QUOTE(throwitup24 @ Mar 4 2007 - 07:13 PM) 826399798i wouldn't normally blame a lose on the refs. but when a team that never really fouls a lot has 8 of its 10 players with 4 fouls. i would call that one sided officiating and to make it even worse it was a game at home. so don't even start with me...brentwood played and awesome game last night and deserved to win. northeast was good...but i would rather see the girls go against each other rather than the refs. so shut your mouth if you don't know what you are talking about MUFFIN and PAPATJ!!!! once again DON'T EVEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    throwitup24

One of these days someone will have enough class and respect to admit that they just got beat by the better team. Were the refs bad? Did the refs makes some horrible calls against Brentwood. Yes they did. Did they make some bad calls against Clarksville-Northeast. Yes they did. They were no better or worse than any other game. It's no secret, I am a Northeast fan. You went down at the hands of a very good team with a couple of great players. There is no shame in that. Just like the region championship game when we played Wilson Central. Could the refs have been better? You always think so when you lose. Did it cost us the game. No. We were outplayed by a very fine Wilson Central basketball team. No ifs , ands , or buts. They outplayed us, dispite a tremendous effort by Dawn Evans and the whole Northeast team and because of that, we lost in a hard-fought game. It's really just that simple. Sometimes all this whining makes me want to THROW UP!!!!

  10. QUOTE(NeWbLuE @ Mar 3 2007 - 10:59 PM) 826398985I watched Wilson Central put the whoopin on Clarksville NE as a neutral fan...I knew then I would be seeing them in the State Finals. YOU should see the shock on my face now. Like the old saying goes" boy,... thats why they play the game".

    GO AnTiOcH LaDy BeArS....!!!

I don't know what whoopin you saw. The score as I remember it was 73 - 66. A win yes, a whoopin, I think not. Oh by the way Clarksville-Northeast is in the state tournament the last I checked. You Wilson Central fans need to stop whining. Sometimes you just get beat. Central is a great team. They just simply got beat by a very good basketball team. It happens, get over it and stop making excuses every time they lose.

  11. Good to hear from you WCplaya22, but ill say this in a time of need you do put the ball in the hands of your top player (Jenkins now and Gassie before her) All Head coaches have assistant coaches that they rely on for help. Everyone knows that Coach Campbell is a very important piece of WC basketball. Probably the best assistant coach in the state!

If I may interject here, I agree with mailman on the point that in crunch time, you give the ball to your best players. Some of the best coaching comes when you put the ball on your best player's hands, allow them to make plays and get the heck out of the way. But honestly mailman, is there anything that WC doesn't have the best in the state of? It seems like every time you turn around, you have the best everything in the state. The best player, the best coach, the best fans, and now the best assistant coach. I find it absolutely amazing that those who constantly makes statements like that, have seen everyone in the state to compare them to. I see why someone posted that certain players when awards like miss basketball because of the campaining. Sometimes it's just nausiating.

  12. QUOTE(ballfan @ Mar 1 2007 - 06:38 PM) 826395695AAA- AML, there's nobody even close to her in TN!

Sorry, but I disagree, Dawn Evans is every bit as good and then some. She just hit Wilson Central up for 37 points. After Miko Williams went down in the second quarter, Dawn Evans scored 24 points in the third quarter alone and 5 consecutive 3"s. Lanning is a great player and I am a big fan but whin people makes statements like that, I think it's just from lack of awareness . Ask the Mt, Juliet and Wilson Central faithful how good she is. They just got an up close and personal look at her talents. 27 points, 7 assists, 6 rebounds, and 5 steals against Mt. Juliet and 37 points, 7 assists, 3 steals against Wilson Central; two of top ten teams in the state ----just one person's opinion----

  13. QUOTE(TnBball @ Feb 28 2007 - 11:41 PM) 826394432FANCHS could be talking about the fact that for one, Evans-Bronson playing on the same team would never happen..For two it would just be a bad combination because both players are very offensive minded and probably wouldnt mesh like they should.

I think both players have totally different personalities.

So does Ann Marie Lanning and Alex Bivens of Riverdale, and they have no problem playing together. Personalities have nothing to do with it. Kamiko Williams is just as offensive-minded and she and Evans play extremely well toghether and compliment each other quite nicely. There are many good teams that have 2 to 3 offensive minded players that play really well together. So I really don't see what personalities have to do with anything. Maybe you were referring to the the types of games they have, rather than personalities. Evans and Williams are play makers. They both are creators that can score as well as create opportunities for their teammates. Bronson is a scorer but she doesn't create easy opportunities for her teammates. Most of the time she needs for her teammates to get her the ball. After watching many games in 10 AAA, the truth of the matter is, Bronson would be the third best player on the Clarksville-Northeast team behind Evans and Williams.

  14. QUOTE(fanchs @ Feb 28 2007 - 03:26 PM) 826393629Valerie and Dawn on the same team........The game is still played with one basketball. That's one too few!

fanchs, with an outlook like the one you have, it's no wonder your team never gets past the first game of the regional tournament. Unlike you, good players learn to play with other good players. Although the one you root for, is probably overated anyway.

  15. QUOTE(Morton @ Feb 28 2007 - 10:02 PM) 826394191Congrats WC. As a native Clarksvillian, I was hoping that Evans and team could pull this out. WC showed their true dominance in AAA by winning this game. As far as the MJ transfers... Christopher and Burroughs will be on the court the majority of the time next year. I love watching Chelsea Burroughs play, and look forward to her impact next year. Good luck WC. Now that Clarksville NE is out of the picture, I'm rooting for you all the way!

Clarksville-Northeast is not out of the picture. There is the sub-state and they have an exellent chance to move on to the state tournament.

  16. QUOTE(MJ AND BEYOND @ Feb 27 2007 - 01:33 PM) 826391866Thats's a pretty fair look at the game. We turned the ball over 17 times (some by CNE quickness) including over throwing the breakaway! MJ was just tight, I have never seen so many missed point blank layups and it cost the Bears...so did the outstanding hustle by CNE

But no matter, the Bears will be back big time next year.

Thank you K.C. and Miaca for a highlight reel season from you both...you are outstanding young ladies and we will follow your success at the next level.

All right, WC take care of business for the city and district. Good Luck

    Go Lady Bears!

I respectfully disagree. I think Clarksville-Northeast deserves a little more credit. This wasn't that big of an upset. After all Clarksville-Northeast is 31-7. If Mj was tight, then CNE was every bit as tight. They were 8 for 31 in the first half. I've never seen Evans and Williams so far off the mark. The difference wasn't the offense. It was the defense. Mt. Juliet was held to 16 second half points. Dawn Evans scored 17 second half points by herself. She simply took the game over in the 4th quarter hitting timely shots and sinking crucial free throws (6 for 6) to ice the game. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Mt. Juliet is a tremendous basketball program and team. One of the best in the state. So let's give credit where credit is due. Mt. Juliet went down at the hands of a very good basketball team with, two of the best players in the state, super sophmore-Kamiko Williams and Dawn Evans; who after a terrible shooting first half, came back in the second to propel her team to victory. Here is the line. 26 pts, 7 assists, 6 rebounds, and 5 steals. ----Just one person's opinion.----

  17. QUOTE(ballfan @ Feb 24 2007 - 12:48 AM) 826386953Mt. Juliet has been playing very poorly lately; can they beat a very good Clarksville NE team?

Clarksville -Northeast is really playing some good basketball right now. The 7 losses they have, came ealier in the season. Most people don't know it but they had several players out for injuries in 6 of the seven losses. Two of those games Evans and Williams were out at the same time. The first game against Beech - no Williams, no Fliipen(sixth man), Stating center Barlow - injured ankle in the first quarter and they lost by 2 (60 - 58) with a chance to win at the end. Quite honestly, they played an average game last night against Beech and they were never really in any danger of losing the game and won comfortably by nine. They finally have everyone back healthy and the chemistry is good. Evans continues to make big time plays (25 points & 10 assists last night), and Williams (15 points & 9 rebounds), is her phenominal self. With all that being said and not to take anything from them, because they are a really fine team with what I believe a GREAT coach, Beech High School is not Mt. Juliet. Playing poorly or not, Mt. Juliet is still Mt. Juliet, which is one of the best teams in the state. I am not guaranteeing a win by Clarksville-Northeast, however this is not the same team that lost big to Riverdale earlier in the season.

  18. QUOTE(ashjan44 @ Feb 21 2007 - 08:20 AM) 826382449WC and MJ wins easily. DC-Smyrma a tossup as DC really shoots it well and is at home. NE over Beech by 10.

Ashjan, that was a really good call tonight. You were almost right on.

  19. QUOTE(sls @ Feb 11 2007 - 06:02 PM) 826367657

A mentally tough team will defeat a team with superior athletic ability almost every time in a pressure game. Now if the athletic team has a point guard that can think his/her way through the game, that is different.

Example: in the past when Princeton makes it to the big dance, under their now retired coach, no one in the country wanted to draw them, no one.

Although that may have been true, Princeton rarely got past the first or second round. They were always outdone by the more athletic team.

  20. QUOTE(2priceless @ Feb 2 2007 - 09:10 PM) 826356403

Tara Davis...averaging 24.9 pts per game. Is 73% at the FT line. Averages 6.2 rebounds a game. Averages 3.1 steals a game and leads the area in pts per game and steals per game. She has 70 steals this season.

Tara has signed with ETSU and is an honor student.

Davis is a great player, especially at her size. She is very athletic and fast. As far as the stats go, they are quite impressive. One thing though, the Evans kid at Clarksville-Northeast is averging nearly 4 steals per game at 3.8 and Mandy Flake of Montgomery Central averages over 4 steals pg.

  21. QUOTE(TG24 @ Feb 2 2007 - 09:44 PM) 826356475

Angela Puleo from William Blount...the award goes to the best girls basketball PLAYER in AAA, not team. As much as I hate it, though, WB's record will play a factor in Angela getting or not getting Miss Basketball.

I completely agree. Although I'm not sure if they vote for the best player or the most valuable player. The two may not be the same. If she were to win, very few could argue against that.
