  1. What kind of job is the Whitwell job? Good people to work for? Administration support? It is in Marion County so I know the general location of the school, I just don't know much else about the program.

May know a young coach who is looking to move back to Tennessee and needs to find a good teaching job/coaching job.

  2. Then you don't know anything about the new coach. It is a good thing they they hired Keith Galloway, cause they got a good one. Give him some time and you will see that he does know what he is doing.

His wife is a good coach and was a great player in high school and college. Keith wasn't too bad either.

Sometimes the best thing to do is to go outside the system to shake things up a little.

  3. Fairview Christian in Athens, Tn and Faith Christian High School in Anniston, AL.

If you want to see some highlights of the AHSAA state tournament go to highschoolgameday.com and look at the right side of the screen for some video highlights. They have some good stuff from teh region final and the Final Four.

  4. I coached for 6 years in Athens, Tennessee at a private school and for 4 years in the Tri-Cities area.

I am currently at a 1A private school in Alabama in Anniston, Alabama. We just got done with a trip to the Final Four. We got put out by St. Jude- Catholic. They won the state tournament for the 3rd time in 5 years. GaMichael Green is their star, McDonalds All-American, and a commitment to Alabama next year.

I would be interested in the Hixson job if there is an opening. My wife and I would like to get back to Tennessee.

It sounds like that the job may not be open though if what you say is true.It is a great job though, I keep up with Chattanooga basketball cause I have coaching friends in the area: Soddy-Daisey, Chattanooga Christian, and Temple.

  5. The Big 9 is located in the Johnson City, Bristol, and Kingsport area of Tennessee. I would be shocked to see any coaching changes in teh Big 9 or the Tri-Cities area for that matter. Wouldn't mind looking to move back to that area myself. I am currently coaching in alabama.

  6. I know the area fairly well since I went to school in Knoxville. Since I left the area has become Hardin Valley Road ect.. Anybody know if they are accepting resumes yet? Where to send them? I would assume they would go to the Knox County School Board but you never know.

  7. Anybody know about the size school and classification? Where in Knox. County will the school be?

The reason I ask is I am a expierenced coach (12 years- 10 in Tennessee, 2 in Alabama) currently coaching in Alabama and possibly looking to come back home to Tennessee- wife's family is there and we may need to be closer to them for undisclosed reasons.

  8. Don't have a dog in the hunt but noise makers are against NFHS rules. "Shakers, air horns, megaphones, or any other unnatural noise makers are prohibited" Again I don't like it as a coach but those are the rules and we all have to eat them.

Been two years since I moved from the Tri-Cities and I remeber the Central fans being pretty rowdy- in a good way most of the time.

  9. Glad to see Grace played up to my expectations. We played them in camp this summer and you are right- they are very fast. Not just individual speed but their "ball" speed. They play fast but when they have the ball- they don't seem to lose a step. Rebound well for thier size, Coach Lamb does a great job teaching the fundamentals of the game.

Who is the head coach at Hampton now? I left Tennessee 2 years ago and you had just changed coaches then. Is it still the same guy? Short, young looking? Can't for teh life of me remember his name.

  10. Well to answer your question, everyone up this way hates the creeker's because they just bring it on there selves. Just ask some people from University High about the creek. Besides I didn't see anywhere that Lord Vader said anything about your precious eagles. So what ever you said about the four or five year ago thing is totaly whacked.

    Sorry Hampton,

It was Creekballer who made mention of the Eagles- not Lord Vader. But I was asking Lord Vader about it.

I was making the point that TCCS was good competition 4-5 years ago. They have fallen on hard times the last couple of years but are improving this year.

  11. Lord Vader

Don't sleep on my guys from Grace Christian. Good ball team- played them at camp and they were not at full strength. Have speed but are not very big- but play big. Coach lamb is as good as they come and he is building something special there at Grace.

Don't know anything about Harriman. Hope both teams do well and have great years.

If you want to win play, train your body.

If you want to win , train your mind!

  12. Lord Vader and company- me thinks you enjoy the troubles of Unaka too much!! Do you really hate them that much or is alot of it in jest? Where does this intense hatred come from?

To remind you- about 4-5 years ago Tri-Cities Christian beat alot of the 1A schools in the area. University high had to beat them at the buzzer with a 3/4 court shot and then lost to them at Tri-Cities. Cloudland lost at home to them and had to come from behind at Tri-Cities to win and Unaka barely beat them at Unaka and Tri-Cities had 2 starters out with the flu that night. Don't dog out my Golden Eagles, Coach Jerry Landers is a great coach and I was honored he let me coach with him.

  13. Sorry redandblack, I understand the pits of despair remark. What is the deal over at Central? Are they ever gonna get things going in basketball? I don't get it- I lived in Knoxville from 92-96 and I always wondered about Central.

I still don't agree with you about the rec ball comment but we will have to agree to disagree on that topic.

I am glad to see that Grace is trying to get bigger schools on the schedule- Coach Lamb is about getting better and if that means getting beat some he will do that too.

I think one of the biggest problems with 1A schools is the coaching. Some have no coaching what so ever. Or it is the football coach just wasting time till the pigskin season. There are some good ones and I think Knoxville could be a place that 1A basketball thrives in Tennessee. By the way, does anyone know how many 1A schools are in Knoxville?

  14. Unaka has been heading down hill since they won the gold ball. They lose Ensor and company and the whole thing goes to pot( if you will pardon the expression). Ensor held that thing together- I believe it was a mistake for him to ever look for another job. The whole situation with Daniel Boone High should have been a sign of the things to come.

I don't know the current coach and staff but Unaka is just a shell of their former self...and don't give me that bull about down years, with the athletes that come through that school there should be very little down year/time.

  15. You are out of your mind! 1 step up from "rec" ball? I dare you to take some of the 1A teams from state and play A.C. or anyone else you would desire and see what happens. I think you will be suprised by the results.

By any chance are you from Maryville? Sounds awfully cocky to me like you just came off a big win or the state championship. Go see Union City play from out west- you will be shocked to see how good their "rec" ball team plays.

If you are just refering to 1A in Knoxville- how many 1A's are there in Knoxville? I will bet there are not as many as other cities in Tennessee.

  16. Look, I didn't mean to say that from an arrogant standpoint; if it came across that way then I apologize.

What I mean is that it is the coaching staff/players of WHS have a responsibilty to compete. Coach Lamb would not do anything to put teams down make them look bad. I am sure he played everyone and alot of playing time was spread around. I remember a few years ago when WHS was not a bad team. Small schools go through ups and downs.

Grace has a good team and he wants to keep them sharp, even if that means leaving a starter or two on teh floor with some subs ( Every good coach does this).

As for recruiting jab by "coonboy"; all schools recruit!! I have been around long enough to see public schools and private schools do this. Maybe not openly but isn't it strange how a kid's mom or dad gets a "new" job in a new school district across town or they suddenly move after years in the same house. I never hear any of this being talked about by public school coaches, they only want to talk about private schools recruiting. We all know it happens- it is the 2 ton elephant in the room nobody want to mention.

I think one thing nobody ever mentions is that some christian school coaches are used to coaching against better talent with lesser talent. When they do get some talent it I think it shocks most people when they do well and then that is when you hear all the talk about "recruiting".

One more thing and I will be quiet- SUCCESS BREEDS SUCCESS!! People want to be a part of something special and exciting and that is the best recruiting tool of all!!

  17. Better not sleep on Coach Lamb, he will stick it to you. I have been coaching against him for 10 years now in camps and some in the regular season. He never goes out to embarress anyone- he has class! If WHS can't stop anyone than that is their problem. Look out for the RAMS this season.

  18. Didn't realize Walker Valley was picked to win. I thought that Cleveland had the strangle hold on that district. Live and learn I suppose. I am sure that Temple will play well but i can't help but think that there could be a mental block left over from last year by CSAS. I hope I am right. Should be a good one in Chatt-town.
