  1. Please don't lie on me. I NEVER said any thing about BTW needing funds for anything. Why would you lie like that? Please be an adult and not messy.

With all respect, I really want you to understand why BTW would never forfeit their chance to play at home in their gym, in their community and neighborhood. The BTW community has sooo much pride and history and they always take advantage of opportunities to bring the Warrior community together. BTW was the first public school for African Americans Founded in 1873. Famous alumni use these games as opportunities to come back and fellowship with the Warriors. Alumni like:

Marion Barry - First African American mayor of Washington, D.C.

Lucie Campbell - Evangelist and songwriter[

    W. W. Herenton - First African American mayor of Memphis

Benjamin Hooks - American civil rights leader and executive director of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People

Verdell Mathis - Negro League baseball player

Lorenzon Wright RIP - 7th overall pick in 96 NBA draft to L.A. clippers (arguable the best draft class ever) Mcdonalds All American

Antonio Burks - 2nd round draft pick to Orlando Magic in 2004 NBA Draft. Memphis Tigers Star

Frankie Beverly and Maze - Grammy Award Winning Band

Willie Gregory - Nike executive, ranked 18th on list of 50 Most Powerful People in Tennessee list

Taurean Moy - 2001 mr basketball all time national record holder for : 3pointers in one game (24), 3s in career, and holds all TSSAA career shooting records and state tournament shooting records

Andre Allen- 2 time Mr. Basketball and helped lead Memphis Tigers to the championship game in '08

Rufus Thomas - legendary blues and jazz musician

Dr. W.O. Speight - first African American Otolaryngologist

List is too long to keep naming. You get the point. By the way, president Obama spoke at last year graduation commencement! You can see that there is too much pride in this community to accept money to move the game to out of town. That's why its insulting.

WOW!!! Now that is one impressive list of people!!! There are like three or four respectable people on that list, then a couple of crooked mayors, several basketball players that absolutely could not keep their nose clean (literally). This group of alums that you put together definitely does not help your argument!!

  2. That's such a putdown for junior high coaches.

Here is my 2 cents worth.

As I have stated before on other Humboldt post, it all comes down to coaching and that is the BOTTOM LINE!!

Im understand that the Humboldt kids didn't evenshake the hands of the Manassas team....another coaching mistake.

Union City and even Lake County has what it takes in Coaching. Union City has won 5 state GOLD balls since the early 90's and some of those teams should have gotten beat but what the other teams didn't know was the coaching won some of those games.

Sorry Humboldt, your class showed on the floor and maybe you kids will learn from this. I personally wanted Lake County to go other than Union City but didn't happen.

For those of you who disagree with my statement about coaching, you had the talent to even win on the AAA level but the coaching of a junior high coach.

Tough way to loose and remember, just lats year, Union City 37 - 0...undefeated.

Sorry you can' t say that.

Everyone knew when the teams drew each other first game, the winner of the GOLD ball would be them.

I just don't deal with class..LESS thing and seems Humboldt had a lack of that as well.

  3. I'm sold on Crisp...FOR SURE. I think he can be D1..at what level I'm not sure. He hasn't had that much exposure but I know Rudesill has contacts and is well known by alot of college coaches. Do you know who is showing interest in Crisp?

He actually only has a few small NAIA schools looking currently. NO ONE knows about him as hard as that may be to believe. I think he has the skills to play big D1 ball when he fully develops physically, but someone would have to have something open up late as there are not many scholarships left at this point in time.

  4. Bolivar was down by 8 with somethig like 5 minutes left in the third and won by 7...that's a 15 point swing. I was really paying close attention to the 4th quarter and Bolivar never wilted. Great game. Two great coaches, Two great teams, and two teams with plenty of college talent on display. If Bolivar would have knocked down a few more FT's the 2nd half they would have won by 10 to 12. I think 10 different playes in this game scored in double figures. I love Jay Murphys game and K Anthony from Liberty is going to be a special player by his senior season. He is only a sophmore. T Johnson may have been in fould trouble some of the game but Bolivar still would have won. I think Ross would have had an impact in a game like this to and he wasn't even there for Bolivar. Just like I said before the season started these two teams are the cream of the crop from rural West TN. Followed by DC, Humboldt, and Lake County.

BTW, I understand Ross was at Harvard on a FootBall recruiting vist and will make a vist to Yale next week. Is that true and is he being recruited as a WR or Punter? My guess is WR.

To the best of my knowledge, both Harvard and Yale are recruiting Mitch as a wide receiver. Also UT Martin and UT Chatt are after him pretty hard. I really feel that if he was more known that he could play at a "bigger" football school. But what an honor to be recruited by two Ivy League schools!!

Hey Yankees, what was your impression of Des Crisp? I wrote on here about 3 weeks ago about him, but I didn't know if you got to see that post. He has really come into his own and can at the very least play at a High Mid Major School. Also, I noticed where you wrote about Whitehorn in that same thread. He is getting better everytime he steps on the floor and is loaded with potential. He is a guard but sometimes is not playing that role because he has more to learn.

You are right about Jay Murphy and Kendall Anthony. They both had big games and controlled the tempo. Jonathan Hodge showed up in a major way tonight also. Not only the points, but taking his defensive game down low and guarding the post.

Im also very impressed with Tarius Johnson. I think his only downfall will be if he doesn't grow anymore.

  5. Oh, and one more thing, Des Crisp is impressing me more and more everytime that I see him. If he gets anywhere near his dad's size (6'8" or so), then he will be unbelievable and a huge steal for whoever sneaks in and gets him. He's still growing, so who knows. His offensive skill set is heads and shoulders above most high school players.

  6. To the person that said the Cheairs brothers, you nailed it. But far and away Deaderick "Poo Poo" Cheairs takes the cake. I saw him jump off two feet just inside the free throw lane in a game and dunk it. Dude is only like 5'11". He had serious serious explosion. Quite frankly, I think he could jump as well as anyone I've ever seen and that includes Kobe and Jordan and so on. And no, I'm not joking!! If he would've taken basketball more seriously, then there's no telling how good he could've been. But athletically there was no one his equal around West Tennessee.

Now to add to that list I have already mentioned Reggie Crisp. Also I would put Marius Transou, Reggie Newbern (I think that's his name: from Southside), Marcus Hicks, Tron Sain, Kedrick Madden, Duke Chatman, and a few others whose names I can't remember.

  7. 1 Reaves

    2 Murphy

    3 Crisp

    4 Tisdale

5 Whitehorn (could be the next GREAT one....more upside than anybody on the Bolivar team..Maybe)

    6 Kizer

    7 Hodge

    8 Rowsey

    9 Herndon

    10 Ross

Yankees, you are so right about Whitehorn. If and when he ever "Gets It", then he will be unbelievable. I would have to put Crisp at number 2 right now, however. He is playing his way into a high mid major scholarship. He is a classic late bloomer and he is still growing (he's pushin 6'4" right now). He can score in so many ways!

I also really like the Herndon kid from Camden. He can flat out play and shoot the ball.

  8. Cameron was a Mr Basketball I think. He went on to Tennessee Tech and last I heard was playing in Poland. I saw him dunk quite a bit in highschool.

How about Joe Jackson. That kid can get up. I wonder what his vertical is?

Cameron is now playing in Iran and making very good money. Ashley Champion is actually his teammate over there.

I played high school with Reggie. Wow. He could jump outta the gym. He was about 6'5" with probably a 44" vertical. Man was he fun to watch in practice. He never could do anything real fancy, but he would just jump so high and make it look so easy. I'm still jealous of his ability. LOL!

  9. This sould be good, there are 16 teams in the field. BOLIVAR and BTW are in the same bracket. Bolivar plays Sparkmen Nov.27@ 3:30pm. BTW plays Butler@ 5:00pm. Raleigh-Egypt plays Oxford. Three days of competition, only drawback is that it starts on thanksgiving day. I cannot miss out on my turkey and COWBOYS!!!!!!!! /hungry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hungry:" border="0" alt="hungry.gif" />

I'm not sure, but I think that this is the Booker T. Washington from Alabama and not the one out of Memphis. I'm not 100% sure on that, however.

  10. I forgot about Parks to. I saw him at FreedHardeman a few weeks ago. He is very good!!!!!!!

Isn't Ander Hollins a soph to.

Yes, he is a sophomore. He's another one that slipped my mind. He's a great student also. I believe he has already made a 26 or 27 on his ACT.

  11. Isn't Bobby Parks jr a soph?? If so put him on that list...

Yes he is. I almost forgot. About McAfee, I think he is an AMAZING athlete, but for some reason, he seems like one of those kids that has already peeked. He can jump out the gym, but doesn't have a big skillset.

  12. I've never heard of him, so i am not too certain if he will be too great this year. We'll see when we play them down the road. If he causes a problem I'm sure we can throw Blake Riley on him and come up with steal after steal for dunks on the other end. If that happens, get your phones out and video the carnage.

    LOL

  13. I've seen rankings for 6th graders, 11 or 12 year olds at best, is that too much?

Yes, that is ridiculously early. How can anyone tell how good an 11 or 12 year old will be? Also, that is not the kind of pressure that a youngster should have on his shoulders. Let kids be kids (at least as long as possible)!

  14. [oh yeah, forgot one point.... i wasnt saying a coach would know how good a kid is regardless of where they were playing overall.... I meant that if a kid was playing on a loaded team against other really good teams and he only scored 15 a game that doesnt mean the kid on teh so-so team playing weak teams that scored 30 a game is better. I meant that coaches are smart enough to know the kid not scoring as much is as good or better but he just doesnt have to do it all.

    GET IT NOW?

I get what you are saying. I am only saying that a coach can tell how good a player is regardless of who he is playing against. There have been some big time players come from schools that play inferior talent on a regular basis. A coach that makes millions of dollars is probably smart enough to tell if a player can play regardless of who that player is playing against. Therefore, if the player is good enough, then he would not have to go to a LIBERTY or say WHITE STATION to get recognized. If he is good enough, then a coach would find out about him anyway. I really wasn't trying to flame your post, so I apologize if it came across that way.

  15. Not to be mean but you have no clue what you are talking about. College coaches are smart enough to know how good kids are based on all aspects. Just b/c you put up 35 a night playing nobody doesnt mean you are better than somebody playing against great competition and scoring 16-18 a night. These people get paid BIG bucks to know all the details about schools, players, competition, and go and watch the kids numerous times and get the full idea. ANYBODY wanting to be big time needs to play at Liberty. JCS, TCA, and USJ wont garner the success or the attention that a two time state champion will!

This is kind of a contradictory post. On one hand, you say that college coaches are smart enough to know who is a better player regardless of competition and then you come back and say that if a kid wants to be Big Time, then he should go to Liberty. Correct me if I'm wrong, but could a college coach not tell if a kid was good enough to play on a high level despite the fact that he plays against weaker competition. The coach would evaluate the player rather than who he is playing against.

It doesn't matter too much regardless, however, because most of the evaluating goes on during the summer now with AAU programs rather than with the kid's high school.
