  1. Yes jalen played at Rockvale in the 7th grade but moved and has been playing for CPA since 8th grade. He would have been zoned for Blackman

    He played at Rockvale

which is down the street from eagleville haha , but I don't think that is where rockvale feeds though. So I am not sure where he was "supposed" to go, but I know he played for Rockvale

  2. I remember going to a jamboree at the roundhouse years ago when Howard and Brainerd were playing each other when a fight broke our in the stands it spilled over on top of seats and at least 50 kids envovled Someone said gun or threw firecrackers and it was crazy. They cleared the building. A few of us fans were sitting waiting around and I heard o s parent say "can't we have anything were these punks don't show up and ruin it " this was at least 20 years ago. It's not a new problem. Remember the shootings around Tyner years back.

That wasn't 20 years ago it was in 1996. I played for CSAS and we were getting ready to play Brainerd. Our girls and Brainerd girls were playing at the time. You are right Though this crap has been going on too long in Chattanooga

  3. And why is the next LQ not walking the halls over there? Because she is at Ensworth. Just as Jalen Ramsey, one of the top football players in the state - being recruited by Ohio State, USC, Florida, Alabama, etc. is at Brentwood Academy and not LHS. Several good athletes from that area go out of zone to Oakland too.

Let's face it. The condition of the school was neglected for years - mold in classrooms, rotting ceiling tiles ready to fall out of the ceiling, etc. Academics? There was a time when they didn't have enough teachers certified to teach A P classes...the kids had to get up before sunrise to go elsewhere to finish their A P class and THEN go back to LHS and finish the schoolday. There were too many conduct problem kids roaming the halls. Too many classes that were overcrowded to the point of nowhere to sit. And then when a new administration was sent in to fix all those years of neglect, people acted like they wanted the status quo back. They acted like infants who had their pacifier taken away. The troublemakers couldn't accept that the inmates were no longer going to be allowed to run the asylum. They even got together and had a facebook page that threatened violence against the new principal. (until facebook eventually took it down)

If you were a top student-athlete (serious about both sports and school) - is this where you would want to go?

I used to take up for the school constantly. But those days are over. If some of those people actually WANT their school to go back to being crappy instead of improving and being comparable to Blackman, Siegel, Oakland, etc. - they will continue to lose good students and athletes to private schools, the magnet school, out-of-zone, etc. (There has been less negative news from over there this last school year, so maybe the reforms put in place by the new administration will work - but the bad reputation from all those other years will take a LONG time fade away.)

I understand what you are saying and you make very valid points. Having coached middle school bball in Rutherford county 8 out of the last 9 years I can tell you there wasn't another player the caliber of Laquinta coming through the ranks after she left.

  4. Surprised it wasn't mentioned already. Former La Vergne High standout LaQuinta Jefferson has signed with LSU, head coach Nikki Caldwell said on Friday.

LQ goes bigtime - signs w/SEC program

After her senior class was gone (and an unpopular coaching change) - LHS went from the penthouse to the outhouse in girls hoops. I won't mention some of the margins of losses from last season.

Can LHS make hay out of this great news about the most popular female athlete in school history and take this opportunity to re-spark interest in the now downtrodden program? I won't hold my breath since there wasn't much made of their 2002 state championship in baseball. Many current and even past students and long-time LaVergne residents are not even aware they won a state title.

I double-dog-dare the administration at LHS to do something with this good news they just got. But no need for any of us to hold our breath that it will happen.

I'm not sure what you want them to do. Right now they don't have the talent to compete in 7AAA, and Laquinta signing with LSU is not going to change that. There aren't any more Laquinta's walking the halls of Lavergne

  5. I will say this about RumorMill's posts. Even if some won't admit it, you have made some people laugh more than you know. So when are you going to give us the next rumor updates? lol I hear while some may be fiction others may be closer to truth than you realize.

Btw, when did the Shelbyville job become the laughing stock of CoachT. In years past, it was one of the best in the state, if not the nation. Now, back-to-back losing seasons and a post that makes the job look like a big joke. I posted this on a different thread about the status of that program. Now we see what many others thought. It is a big joke right now with no fix in sight.

I have no dog in the hunt. Nor did I take a side when the Shelbyville admin chose between Allison Clark and Tom Insell. The divide between those supporters runs deep as shown in this post and the number of people who have viewed/talked about it.

Perhaps we need to turn the recruiting spotlight from Shelbyville to other teams in the middle tennessee area who are recruiting like Rick Insell used to be accused of doing (it has been stated here so it must be true...lol).

Riverdale is the new recruiting hotbed. Transfers happen every year there, but of course it is all legit. They now have the dominance that Shelbyville used to have. Numerous state titles and tournament appearances. And let's not forget our good buddy Tom Insell from Franklin County who managed to get a "transfer" from Grundy County who took his team from being a bottom of the district team to a contender or look at Lawrence County who was the recipient of the ever-rotating Gilbert sisters (Shelbyville, Lawrence Co, now Columbia) who helped lead the Lady Wildcats to district championships. So, while I am not from Shelbyville, let me say they are not recruiting anymore (obviously, as shown by their record lol), but they are not the only team to have been the recipient of "non-local" kids who helped push them to success. Especially in nearly last decade.

A friend of mine told me that the last state championship won down in Shelbyville was with a locals so apparently it can be done. That team had Alex Fuller, Ashleigh Newman, etc. If I am not mistaken, they were on Dateline that year too. That would have been 2004?

Ok, I am getting off my soapbox now....

Not so fast my friend. Ashley Newman was from Murfreesboro

  6. SH beat Mt. Juliet in a tournament back in December, as well as Bob Jones, AL(considered by many to be the best team in the state of AL, won the AL state title last year). They also thumped Morristown East last week for the Region 1-AAA title. Science Hill will be a tough out for any of the remaining teams. They don't have a lot of size, but they are extremely talented. They're quick, disciplined, and play great team ball. Don't forget this exact same group of girls beat Clarksville last year in the state tournament and came within a hair of winning the whole thing.

How did they come within a hair of winning the whole thing when Riverdale and Central were the ones who played for the title

  7. And now another team walks away from the Inferno scratching their heads wondering... HOW IN THE WORLD CAN ANYONE EVER STOP HIM? (Him being Mathers) The funniest comment of the night can from the B.C. coach after the game when he stated "We couldn't tackle him. Heck, We couldn't two hand touch him." The B.C. fans didn't really get to see Mather's amazing cut-back ability due to the field conditions, But it's safe to say the saw enough. Enough to know the don't want to see Blackman and the Train anymore this season.

You don't have to be fancy if you have a Train.

    GO BLAZE!

oh they saw his cut back ability. although it was called back, the first play from scrimmage set the tone for the night

  8. This game was not as close as the score would indicate. Oakland showed a lot of heart in the 4th quarter. I was surprised when I got in the car and heard that Oakland had actually outgained Blackman. Oakland has way too many athletes for them to be as 1 dimensional as they are. I'tavius Mathers is the REAL deal I saw where 1 of the oakland players mentioned on twitter today comparing their backfield to Mathers and basically said Oakland was better but after looking at the stats in the paper their 4 leading rushers had only collectively outgained him by about 130 yards. The kid is the best back in the state period

  9. Did not make it to the game ..what in the heck happened? Is that score right.

Rutherford County football is what happened Rutherford County is just heads and shoulders above hamilton county when it comes to football. And I am saying this as someone who grew up in Chattanooga and now lives in Murfreesboro

  10. My name is Stephen Ownby. I'm the new co-athletic director at Lighthouse Christian School in Antioch, TN and we were looking for a competitive basketball league to get our 5th and 6th grade boys and girls into. Any leads?

go to Abovetherimgym.com George Gibson runs it. They will be starting up a league soon

  11. I've about had it with all these parents griping at me about their kid not starting or not getting enough snaps. Before I go nuts this fall does anyone have any answers? Any good resources you can point me to?

    Just trying to stay sane.

Have a parent meeting. Tell all of the parents that you do not discuss playing time with parents. If a parent has a gripe about how much their kid is playing then they can take them somewhere else.
