the number of principals in the building is irrelevant to this matter. As long as the school has 8th grade in the SAME building as the high school then 8th graders are eligible to play. its that simple.

lol yes i am bias but i dont make excuses..i said howard was green and would make a run but to my surprise they went on a RAMPAGE...they proved they are the best team in the city once again...I didnt make excuses i told you what was gonna happen and it did...its rare for csas to beat Howard and the sun shined on them this year like it does once every million years...lol like i said this team had to gel and i knew they were going through some growing pains...but cmon man they are better than csas...but i give it to ya...with yall being in the weaker division i actually think yall are ready for the state tourney but how do you think they will be if they played in Howards district

I never said Howard wasnt better than CSAS or the best team in the city my argument this whole time has been that CSAS is one of the top 5 teams in the city. like i have said before I hope to see at least 3 chattanooga teams in the state tournament, CSAS, Howard and whoever else. If CSAS was in the district with Howard I really think they could finish in the top 3. They have split with Howard lost to tyner by single digits and beat Brainerd. not bad for a single A team

Actually I wasnt being biased I didnt refute your argument I just asked who you would replace CSAS with in the top 5. But I am going to do like you and make an excuse: Yes CSAS lost to Hixson they also had two players, out one being their leading scorer.

Im not saying they are good or bad but I know they also play in a weak region so they probabnly wont be tested until they get to the state tournament

I think this may be the top five but not in the right order...Howard again beat Tyner by double digits...but i really dont know who is better of the four..Howard McCallie Red Bank and Tyner but i dont feel Tyner is #1..i dont feel either of the four has done enough to be #1...but i think that CSAS is not in the top 5!!!

I didn't think schools do the pledge anymore because of the "one nation under God" phrase. Which is the ridiculous to say the least!

Your absolutely right and that is only because their division is weak...thats why i say the city is weak...Tyner and Redbank dont have the post to win and Howard doesnt have the guard play...now Red Bank can get hot and make a run but i seriously doubt it

this thread has died down but i guess now people see what i mean when i say there are really no solid teams in chattanooga this year...look at the top five teams people were placing on the list...there is no clear favorite for top five...Howard was laughed at put then rolled off some wins then lost two in a row one to a team they already beat...but the third night beating a team that they lost to and winning by 13 and the paper read that howard was to strong in the inside for CSAS but i remember someone saying that CSAS was equal to them in the inside...WHERE ARE YOU?

I personally am not knocking his coaching ability. The talent is so good at Riverdale right now I guess its hard for me to be impressed by the coaching but he doesn't have to impress me does he. He is obviously a great coach. How great, we will find out when and if the talent ever declines while he is there.

The thing is that talent isnt declining anytime in the near future

5.6 Comment B: "If a technical foul occurs after the ball has become dead to end a quarter, the next quarter is started by administering the free throws. This applies even when the foul occurs after the first half has ended. It also applies when the foul occurs after the second half has ended, provided the score is tied. If the score is NOT tied, the free throws ARE administered unless the outcome of the game will NOT be affected. If the outcome is not already decided, the free throws are attempted immediately as if the foul had been part of the fourth quarter. The division line throw-in following the technical foul cannot be carried over to the overtime as the fourth quarter ended with the last free throw." See Rule (5-6-4)

 

That rule reads "If a technical foul occurs after the ball has become dead to end a quarter or extra period, the next quarter or extra period is started by administering the free throws. This applies when the foul occurs after any quarter has ended, including the FOURTH quarter, provided there is to be an extra period. If there is no way to determine whether there will be an extra period until the free throws are administered, the free throws are attempted immediately, as if the foul had been a part of the preceding quarter."

 

So, if the score was tied and the fourth quarter had ended, (as per your initial post) and the technical then occurred with the score tied, the officials erred in their decision. The shots should have been taken to start the overtime, and the shooting team should get possession opposite table to start the overtime period. I have been a high school official for twelve years, and always find unique rulings interesting. I hope this shines some light on the situation.

I don't know the rule, but this doesn't sound like a correct interpretation of the rule. Once the game is ended, I don't see how an official can call a technical foul. I suppose it wouldn't be the first time the rules didn't make sense though.

officials have hursidiction over the game floor until they actually exit the floor. Like I said last night one of the officials of the game I coached stood at halfcourt and waited for both team to leave the playing floor because one of my kids and a kid from the other team were jawing the official was close to giving them both technicals

from my understanding of the rule and what you are saying this was the right call. I think I was told a couple of years ago by a ref that you could actually win a game by 1 point get a technical and the other team make both free throws and beat you even though the clock has all zero's. As a matter of fact I had a ref almost T up one of my kids after the game was over

I was just picking with you in my last post. I have nothing against Howard. As a CSAS im not worried about Howard, Tyner, Red Bank, ooltewah or MCCallie because they have absolutely no sayso in whether or not CSAS makes it back to Murfreesboro. I hope all these teams make noise in their respective divisions. Just think if if two or 3 chattanooga teams win the state in their classes then we can shut Memphis up for at least a year

Don't let anyone kid you, there are more than 5 players who play and the role players play a significant role just as they do at Blackman, Siegel, Oakland, Smyrna and lavergne.

Those tournaments sell newspapers and shoes and the only ones making money are the promoters. And what does the HS national champions mean. Those who have paid the money to go to the events. There are 30 schools within 40 miles on Nashville who have competitive players. Its true California has been a hotbed but not as much now as before but if you look at the census, states around California are going to be stronger. People are moving out of California. Only the tournaments are left. Fussell is legitimate at Baylor but a little short. Advante will only be a role player at UT, a good player but small. Martin did get some good players but time will tell on how they develop. There are 30 schools with 40 players or more within 40 miles of Nashville that can play. The difference in Tennessee is coaching. Memphis is beginning to catch up with coaching but just placing a lot of good players at the same schools. So all of this hype only means some schools don't want to compete in state, they just want to travel out of state, get some promoter hoopguru to promote a tournament, and take the emphasis off of the good schools in the States. What a scheme and it won't work. they are trying to sell newspapers, shoes, athletic apparel and your tourist $$$$$$. And when you hear that the ticket price from TSSAA is going up, just remember that spending money out of state to attend those events, takes away money from the state and promoting Basketball here.

So do you have a problem with Riverdale going out of state to play next week?

Each of these teams I could see going to the State this year and have a good chance at winning in their respective classifications. This was probally one of the most competitive city tournaments in a long while. Chattanooga bball is pretty good!

you better put Howard at #1 before T-Mac comes on here even though two of these five have already defeated Howard

wow...caught me off guard with that one...so i guess its Howard RedBank and Tyner...lol...No matter what i will always put Howard in the mix...but they are getting better...I think Howard woulda won this tourney again...it was 3 out of the four teams in the Henry Bowles classic coulda won that tourney Maplewood, Howard, Austin East...This just isnt a good year for chattanooga...but maybe the entire state of Tennessee is down because Maplewood is suppose to be the best team in Middle TN and Howard actually controlled that game the entire way and let up only to let maplewood win on a buzzer beater

CSAS beat Howard and its because Howard hasnt touched a basketball in a long time so they are rusty. Then your excuse for howard losing to maplewood is because howard let them win. *newsflash* Genius Good teams in AA dont let bad single A beat them. Oh yeah that bad single A beat a team that dominated you. I also find it funny that you say Austin East would have won the best of preps. I guess you mean that same austin east team that lost to brainerd who lost to CSAS. like I said I dont know what your beef with CSAS is but let go.

Howard, CSAS, McCallie, Tyner, and Red Bank are all good teams just give credit where it is due and stop making excuses every time Howard loses. Hopefully in March all of these teams will be in representing for Chattanooga in their respective state tournaments
