Your last statement sums it up. You were never a part of the Powell community growing up so in reality you don't understand what its all about. Powell is no different than Oak Ridge or Shelbyville. I know for a fact OR doesn't recruit but everyone seems to slam them. They just have a great feeder system and a high school coach who is top shelf. People want to be a part of that community and play ball there! So what's wrong with that? Is that a reason to take shots? They kick everyone's butt because they work hard and have stability. The middle school coach at Jefferson has been there over 25 years. He helped to start the TN Stars to benefit his school and ORHS. Hard work + Attitude = Success!
But if you don't think that Powell has had its share of hires based on "networking" then you are mistaken. Go back and look at the names of the coaches, players, teachers, etc. and trace their lineage to the "pillars of the Powell Community".
As far as community pride, for 20 plus years I was a part of the Powell community and shared in the wins and losses. Even in the dark years after the departure of Rick Walker, I still cheered for the Lady Panthers. After Coach Hunter left, my blood was still black and orange. It bothers me that just because you have a good group of kids playing ball everyone now wants to jump on the "Community Pride" bandwagon. The last time Powell went to the state in basketball was 1989. The boys made it to the semis and were sent home by Penny Hardaway from Memphis. There was pride in that group also and they were a great group of kids. That group of guys grew up in Powell.
As far as the Lady Panthers, I have the utmost respect for them. I truly hope they bring home the gold ball. They deserve it!
Most of the students at Powell are a class act, so what if they lead the county in numbr of students sent to the hospital for in school fighting.
Being a Panther, I would never assert that anyone in the Powell family is toothless or a shoeless moron. That would be low class. Powell High School is an excellent academic institution that produces only top level graduates who can effectively articulate their position on an issue and not resort to name calling.
P.S. Do you really think Erin would be there if her dad didn't coach the boy's team?
I don't know if your a moron or just an stupid idiot. OR does recruit and everybody in surrounding counties know of it. There were even two girls that MOVED FROM ANOTHER STATE that came to play for Prudden, but didn't get enough playing time so they moved back.
I am ashamed that you are a Powell High Alumni. I take pride in being an Alumni of Powell. I was apart of the football program and basketball program and fans have always been supportive of both teams. So I don't know where you get that bogus remark.
As for Erin being at Powell, she's here so what does it matter, plus her dad is an alumni of PHS, and I'm pretty sure she would still attend PHS, she has a very special bond with her teammates!!!
And your outrageous comment about fights in school, what schools can you name that do not have any fights. UMM NONE!!
Your only making yourself look foolish.
I agree with switchplay!!!
P.S. Where is OR now in tournaments and where is Powell, Oh yeah, I guess you missed that one didn't you!!!
GO LADY PANTHERS!!!! ALL THE WAY!!!
