1. QUOTE(171 @ Jun 6 2007 - 11:11 AM) 826472109Ooltewah has alot of players because they had alot of talented seniors. They have players that were not even

full time starters that look as good as anyone out there.

I'm not sure about them being "as good as anyone out there".

There has to be a lot of other talented guys that could have been asked to play in this game.

From what I saw at practices there is not any players from several teams in the area that probably should be on the squad, but I guess that's just the way it is. I hope Tennessee pulls out a win and that no one is injured. I'm looking forward to the game.

  2. QUOTE(global98 @ Apr 4 2007 - 09:32 AM) 826429684I never saw Caleb Skogen play. My guess is that if he was not successful at Mercer, he probably went to the wrong place because I have heard he is really talented. What position does Sexton play and will he play next year? Will he be in a position to dominate a game? I have no idea.

Caleb is a very good basketball player. Caleb averaged 21 points and seven assists per game as a senior at Temple. IMO I think he went to the wrong school to play basketball. At Mercer he only played in 20 games and only averaged about 12 minutes per game. He averaged 4.2 points per game. I'm told at Covenant College he averaged 18 pts. per game as a sophomore. There is no doubt that Caleb is a very good athlete. I also think that Caleb could have played football somewhere, but he choose instead to play basketball. I'm not really sure what his plans are for the future.

Sexton is a very good basketball player. He's only a sophomore and will only get better. I'm not sure if he can carry Temple next year on his talent alone, but they should be a contender for the region. The main place Temple will be lacking is at the post position.

  3. QUOTE(dadoffour @ Mar 27 2007 - 08:21 PM) 826424430. . . let's not knock the current administration's ability to make good decisions about the athletic program. In Dr. Pearson's 1st year Temple won region in football and state in basketball. You may think she's made some poor decisions, but so far all I'm seeing is a lot of victories. I'm not saying she's responsible for the victories, but nothing has fallen apart on her watch. . .

You're right -- Dr. Pearson really didn't have anything to do with Temple's success this year in football and basketball.

These teams were successful before she came to Temple.

I wish Caleb the best in his new position. I hope it works out for him.

  4. QUOTE(backinthaoc @ Mar 25 2007 - 09:13 AM) 826422029.....I'm not saying Maryville has no athletes, they have two going to UT on football scholarships,right??....Temple doesn't match-up at all with Union City's style of play...Not at all....Does that mean Temple has no athletes??...No...Skogan is going to play football at Furman....I think he could actually play college basketball,he is that good..They won the tournament by really good teamwork and excellent coaching....They did not have to play an uptempo, all out sprint for 32 minutes..I saw how they handled Humboldt's press in the second half...It was miserable..They would have faced a more intense press with quicker players that would have been fresh the entire game because they would have put 10 in the game before the first quarter was over.....I also know this a hypothetical because UC didn't make it........But that's your problem, right??

Wow, you actually admit that Temple has athletes. Good observation. Yes, Skogen is going to play football at Furman and could play basketball in college if he wanted to. You forget to mention that several colleges have been after Dee Newson to play basketball (Appalachian State, Lee, Bryan -- just to mention a few). Then you have Josh Smith who is going to play football in college. And I would dare say that Jeremy Sexton will play basketball somewhere in college after a couple more years in high school. As far as playing an "all out sprint for 32 minutes", Temple would handle that just fine if they had to. Did they handle the press Humboldt put on them in the second half? Not that well, but they could have and should have. I guess it's the same thing you're saying about your team, they could have and should have.

Look, we could go back and forth on the issues you have presented, but we really don't know who would win between Temple and UC unless they played an actual game against each other. And we know that is not going to happen. So, as it stands today -- the East is the best in 1A and 3A because they have the balls to prove it. No pun intended. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

  5. QUOTE(FLMS @ Mar 20 2007 - 02:38 PM) 826418665Only two West Tennessee teams there? I guess Dyer County and Mitchell aren't considered West Tennessee. The coaching is better in the east but the teams jsut aren't as talented. I really felt the reason Liberty was so good is because they have good coaching to go with all that talent. I like the coach from Ridgeway as well. All in all a pretty weak year out west from what I've seen in the past.

I guess you don't think Temple has much "talent", right?

Grant it, they have a good coach but you have to give them credit for being good players as well.

  6. Has the smoke cleared yet? /cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" />

  7. I guess Temple will be this years Cosby. Get to state with an impressive record only to get blown out by a union city humboldt or lake county squad. I dont look at polls that much because the only newspaper that votes over here is jackson sun. All the Homers votes for Temple but when the state tournment comes they find out they couldn't finsh in the top four of our district. Good luck temple union city is a way better choice for number one than yall but i guess yall will find out the hard way just like Cosby did last year.

I guess you just didn't understand, did you?

  8. QUOTE(backinthaoc @ Jan 24 2007 - 08:47 PM) 826344687Why isn't anyone talking up Temple anymore??.... /huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="huh.gif" />

    I guess they left their talking on the court. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

  9. QUOTE(frankieD12 @ Mar 15 2007 - 02:38 PM) 826413159...humboldt had the 2nd most points score in the whole tournament (4 less than liberty...also from the west /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> ) and that was humboldt's off night...wait until you see them when they are on which will be friday against temple since they have that amazing D...im going to go ahead and change my prediciton...Humboldt 83 Temple 59...put that in your pipe and smoke it!

Good call . . . I'm just glad I didn't bet any money on your prediction. By the way, what have you been smokin'?

  11. QUOTE(Icy @ Mar 13 2007 - 03:22 PM) 826410508Union City would have won the championship this year if they wouldn't have gotten upset in the sectionals. Since Union City didn't make it to the boro this year, will this be the best opportunity for the East to win the Gold ball?

Do you really think they would have won the championship this year? They obviously weren't invincible by any means.

As far as the East winning the gold ball, the opportunity has always been there regardless if UC is there or not.
