  1. Galilee,

What is going on with Hillcrest? They are playing out of their minds arent they? We played them around Christmas and the looked horrible. What are they doing differently than before? At Christmas they had one dark skinned guy that was real athletic and I dont remember much more about them. Give me a little insight on what they are doing now to still be playing.

  2. You are correct. We had to play our best last night. Hillcrest was the #4 seed coming in they defeated a #1 and a #2 to reach the final.

  3. I am in no way saying that. I am well aware that Haywood beat Bolivar because i was going to go but i didn't want to have to watch the girls and i knew that is the only way i could have gotten in the gym. I am just basing my assumption on how the two teams have played recently. I have seen both in the last 10 days and Bolivar played better than Haywood. No disrespect whatsoever to Haywood, i love watching them, Varnado, Liggins, Taylor, Comage and the whole gang are very good. On the other hand, Bolivar knows how to play when the games matter. I am not saying who will win. I just know it will be wild when they play and west tn will be deep in the Murphy Center. I just hope none of the west tn teams get upset.

I dont want to go back and forth on this issue, but when did you watch Haywood play? If it was in the Regionals then I hope you noticed the defense they are playing here down the stretch. Teams in the regional tournament are only averaging about 33 points a game. You know in what is always said "Defense wins championships" and they are certainly playing some suffocating defense at this point in the season. And you already know we have players that can score.

  4. Great Matchups, just one round too soon, but oh well. Least we will get to see them play each other, and the two best in Bolivar and Mitchell are in oppsite brackets and it won't be a repeat of two years ago when the two best AA teams in Bolivar and Raleigh Egypt played in the first round.

Sounds like to me you are overlooking the fact that Haywood is in that bracket with Bolivar. So you are saying it is a given that Bolivar will beat Haywood. I am not so sure about that one. You must not know we beat Bolivar earlier this year. Yes, Galilee we should meet and talk a little basketball.

  5. Tomcatfan,

Yes, I was with him, I was the one wearing the black hat. You all have a very good team. JV is one of the best shot blockers that I have seen in high school basketball since Lorenzen Wright. I wonder why CC kept taking the ball to him. That just allowed him to pad his stats. I am hoping that we win out and do not have to travel to Brownsville. If we advance on Thu., we will be there Friday night.

    Galilee,

In all honesty we dont want to have you travel to Brownsville. We certainly do not want to have to travel to Memphis. So I hope that both of us win out and see each other in Murfreesboro. Even though we beat you guys last year to make it to Murfreesboro, we dont want to have to play you at this time of year. We know your team is hungry and talented so we will see you Friday. Jarvis is one of the best shot blockers that I have seen. He has unbelievable timing and gets up quick. He is becoming more of an intelligent shot blocker. He challenges alot of shots and thats as good as a block a lot of times. He also has been playing good position defense too. He rotates and takes charges and gets alot of weak side help blocks. CC was like many teams we have played this year and wanted to challenge him only to get rejected.

  6. I am so impressed with your fan support. Our game vs Bolivar in Nashville was like a Bolivar home game. There was green everywhere. Last night we attented the Haywood/Crocket Co. game and purple was all over the place. I see why your teams are so successful.

    Galilee,

Thanks for the comment. I had posted on here last nite asking if you were there. I saw Coach Johnson come in and thought that was you with him. Our fans really do support the team. Sometimes they are not vocal enough but they do travel well. I hope that you guys were coming to watch Fayette Ware because we are going to send them to Memphis. I am sure you remember the environment in our gym last year when we played you in substate. Words cannot express it. Like someone on here said you should see a Bolivar and Haywood game. And just think, the next one could be the first round in Murfreesboro.

  7. We definitely have a shot at the gold ball this year, even though the media has been heavily focused on Bolivar and Liberty. Flying somewhat under the radar could prove to benefit the 'Cats further down tournament road against teams less familiar with West TN. Of course, first we have to get through Bolivar or Liberty.. and Mitchell for that matter. Let's hope the Tomcats fair as well this year as last year against Mitchell-- they aren't going to come in looking for an easy win this year.

    jsills,

That ball will be hard as ever to try to bring home. The TSSAA seems to have a way of pairing the teams together that would make some unbelievable semi final games together in the first round. The Tomcats have been under the radar this season. You dont hear people talking about them much. If we win regionals and Mitchell does the same we would only have to see them in Murfreesboro.

  8. Haywood will be in the hunt as usual and you know that they are confident after finally breaking through against Bolivar earlier this season.

That confidence might be needed if we are fortunate enough to make it there. We could possibly face Bolivar in the first round of the state.

Haywood is playing well and has a good chance.

Thanks glad someone on here notices. Seems like a lot of the time this is a Bolivar, Liberty, and Lexington board.

Yeah even though they were pretty heavy favorites to win that district, it`s always nice to go out and take care of business and bring the hardware home. Good luck to Haywood.

Being heavy favorites and actually finishing the job are two different things. Thanks for the well wishes. Let's keep it rolling through these Regionals Coach Varnado and the Fellas!!!!

  9. Congratulations to Coach Vanardo and the team for winning the District Championship last night. Moving on into the Regionals to face Obion County on Saturday. Great game last night the Tomcats just totally outplayed Fayette Ware from the jump ball. Jarvis Vanardo had a terrific game even though he wasnt feeling well. Shaveon Comage (the 6th man) came off the bench to lead the Tomcats in scoring for the second night in the tournament. He was named Tournament MVP and Jarvis was named regular season MVP. Congrats to all the players and Congrats to Coach Vanardo for being named Coach of the Year. Not bad for a first year varsity coach. The TOMCAT TRAIN KEEPS ROLLING!!!!

  10. I believe it is a random draw

Im tired of this random draw mess. How can anyone, including the TSSAA, say it is a random draw and this happens every year. Then TSSAA has the nerve to say attendance is down and they dont set the brackets up to try to make it where the best four teams make it to the semifinals. I dont mean any disrespect to Middle and East Tennessee but I know for sure in AA the gold ball is coming this way. TSSAA is hoping some version of Hoosiers will happen where some little small underrated team comes out the woodwork and slays one of the WEST TN GIANTS!!!

  11. Tomcatfan...I've already posted my respect for Haywood, and Mitchell too, on other threads. So no point in repeating that. Mitchell beat us the other night. Wayne didn't play a half, but we lost. OK.If you lose to Mitchell, nothing to be surprised about. But BCHS really doesn't like losing!!! I know...who does?

But this deal about Mitchell being "a team that most people say is the most talented in the state" ...? They are talented, but there are a lot of fans---not just Bolivar people either--- who would believe Bolivar would be under consideration for that. :thumb

    Firefulmer,

Please pump your brakes for a minute. This was not about Bolivar at all. BluNWhite made the comment that Haywood does not really worry him that much. He said we were not a factor when it comes to the State Tournament. Thats where that comment came from. You dont catch me hating on Bolivar. So just slow down please and read the previous posts.
