1. Isn't this a moot TOPIC? Jefferson County is the Hamblen County Champion! At best, West and East are playing for second! /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />

And I cannot believe that this topic went this long before a Jeff County person put this in!

A Jeff County fan talking smack on a Morristown board...don't you have better things to do...like kissing a sibling?

  2. QUOTE(madman101 @ Jun 6 2007 - 11:27 PM) 826472422I keep hearing the rumors and I just want to hear what everyone else knows...What is the word on the Tennessee High baseball coaching job for next year?

The most logical choice and most likely choice is in the Bristol area already.

  3. QUOTE(Pfbaseballfan @ May 17 2007 - 04:38 PM) 826461332After seeing both of these teams play i believe with Kyle K. or Church on the mound that Seymour will utterly and totally destroy Rutledge.

Sounds like there is still some bitterness on the PF side. I would ask you to give a scoring prediction, but counting isn't too high on the priority list over there from what I hear.

  4. 1. "Nice route...you look like Helen Keller out there..."

    2. "Nice paddles meat...do those double as ping pong paddles?

    4. "Is that that kids legs or is he riding a ostrich?" (Kid with skinny legs)

    5. "Last time I saw legs that skinny they had a message tied to them."

    6. Last...I heard a coach actually tell an umpire on his way out of the park..."You are a pimple on the A## of baseball."

  5. QUOTE(PTSportsWriter @ Feb 28 2007 - 10:21 PM) 826394054What is everyone's thoughts on the new conference schedule this year??

Monday - Single Game with a team

Tuesday - Doubleheader with the same team

I think it'll be better from a competition standpoint and maybe bring in a lot of parity to the league as well.

Instead of being able to throw your #1 man at a team twice in the conference season, he'll get one game.

I love the new format. I think it rewards the teams with better depth. I also like it because almost all college conferences play three games series' and it makes for really good competition. Could be a crazy year in the IMAC this year

  6.

    Jhite -

You are under way too much pressure. You say you have to get 9 players ready for life and 1 to play college ball, assuming we are talking about major college ball, then you are obviously in the wrong place, the pros need you! As for the other 9 players - you might want to ask a parent for some help or maybe some of the teachers to take that burden off your shoulders - but some want all the credit. What in the world happens to the other million children that don't have coaches and are not interested in sports - do they just fall off the end of the earth?? I would guess there are no chances for them to become doctors or lawyers. OK, ok - I am only kidding with you. Basketball is only a game. It is not the determining factor in how successful a person is going to be in life - it is a very small part of a child's overall development (it can be a very memorable part of their life). By the way, did you hear about the high school player shoving the ref to the floor tonight on ESPN??? You are right, society is changine rapidly - freshman play early (sometimes they just skip right on to pros) - I am going to say, if you are around long enough, and take a chance on beating down a "thug", you might get a beat down yourself and society will be saying - hey he is pro, we want him (sad)!!! I still say the best deal is to cut a run - sit him on the bench, if he doesn't get the message, then he is off the team. The team will grow from this experience as a whole, and hopefully the thug will come to his senses without tearing down the team.

I think you either misunderstood what i meant by the 9 out of 10 or I didn't explain it well enough. What I meant is that I get tired of hearing well they only legitimately have one player that can play at the next level. Does this mean that coaches should not coach because they don't have the talent to pass on to college? What I meant is that whether you have a kid that goes on to play at upper level D1 schools, or a kid that decides to not go to college and begin working immediately, you still coach them pretty much the same way. And by no means am I saying that if kids don't play sports then they will not be successful. I just personally feel responsible to prepare my players for whatever it is they do in the future. I think it is the point to where we are almost beating a dead horse with this thread, but I'll say it again. I think that there are bad coaches out there that do humiliate players. (i.e. the coach saying the kid lost the game). Coaches like those make the entire profession look bad. As I have stated before, there is an obvious line between discipline and humiliation. At times however, many parents and people looking on can't tell the difference and sometimes make judgments that should not be made.

  7. maybe just maybe 1 out of 10 players get a shot at college and there it is a job.

And it is a coach's JOB to get that 1 ready to play college ball, and the other 9 ready for life. And no there is not much yelling in the classroom, but it wouldn't hurt if there was some raising of the voice. It's funny how the society's view on some things has changed over the years. People look at things differently now. We as a generation are soft. We are media dependent, and have to have things our own way, or we learn at an early age to complain. What we need is more coaches that WILL stand up to the "thugs" and the "sprewells." Let the players know who is the coach, and who will call the shots.

  8. but to let a coach with a hidden agenda have the key to the town while breaking young people down to feed his ego is a travesty to everyone involved.

What's next?? Are some high school coaches responsible for insurgencies in Iraq,or was one of them the second shooter on the grassy knoll? I just feel that this is getting blown way out of proportion. I don't see how you can say that coach's have a hidden agenda. I think most of the agendas are to win...and if they are not in it for that then they are in the wrong business. As far as T.O. goes...look how that situation turned out. He was a determining factor in the leaving of Bill Parcells. Are you telling me that it is wrong to get in the face of a "thug" like T.O.? What he needs is to be sitting at home writing more children books, because there is no place in sports for guys like him. But in your eyes I'm sure it is always the coach's fault.

  9. there is a place for discipline and it is at practice. but that is also a time to teach the game. the biggest problem today is there are a lot of coaches that cannot teach someone to play.

I agree and I disagree. You do have to discipline at times on the fly. A player gets a technical, or a personal foul, or something along those lines needs to be addressed. My whole philosophy is that a coach should be the FIRST to reprimand a player, and the FIRST to congratulate a player. If most coaches would follow those guidelines than most the time there won't be many problems that will arise that can't be taken care of.

As far as the comment that a lot of coaches can't teach someone to play is somewhat true and somewhat not. Teaching someone to play is only a small part of the job description. The main job of a high school coach is yes to teach X's and O's, but it also is our job to get kids prepared for college, and or life. If coaches as a whole worry just about winning and teaching the kids to be better athletes and not take in to consideration their well-being as human beings would be a great injustice. And teaching them discipline and being accountable for their actions goes a very long way. It's not as easy as it looks.

  10. The ABSOLUTE number one problem is not with coaches berating players, it is with the children and parents of 2007 having absolutly NO respect for authority. Coaching and playing is a public matter, a kid screws up in public, he gets punished in public more times than not. When it comes physical that is when it becomes a problem. As many have seen with the retiring of Bill Parcells in the NFL, the old-school type of coaches are getting phased out and now we are catering to the players. (i.e. the thug of T.O.)

Also, a big double standard is if a coach makes a mistake, he is chastised either in the media, definitely in the stands, and on message boards. Is that wrong for a coach to be berated then? We are told no, that coaches know what they are getting in to. And yes we do, but why can we not expect the same out of our players? We wonder why some kids after they get out of school can not hold a job or finish anything they start. If they can't simply follow the rules and do a little hard work in high school athletics, how are they going to succeed in life when they have a boss down their throat? Are they going to have their parents call the boss? The truth is we live in a soft society, and have a lot of high school kids that can't fight their own battles. Now I understand if it is getting racial, physical, or to the point to where the kid can not handle it on his or her own then parents should step in. If parents can't stand that, then pull your child out of the school and home-school them and prepare them yourself.

  11. Not true. There are a lot there, but just because a player is from Memphis doesn't mean that they are a thug. Look at kids such as Thad Young and Maurice Miller. Thad was a 4.0 student and Maurice Miller is a 4.0 student at a Memphis public school. Both will be playing at Georgia Tech next year also.

I was speaking in generalities. I am aware that there are a handful of guys that are respectable and work hard to get their GPA's up. I just think the school system as a whole in Memphis is a joke. We should all sign a petition to give Memphis to Arkansas. Let them deal with the problem for a while

  12. So, with that in mind, this ref, thinking along these same lines most likely, was probably a tad intimidated by the thought of this big-time coach coming into his gym. And when said big time coach starts to yell at the ref, the ref and his already wary awareness of Coach Pearl comes to regard it as a personal challenge rather than a normal fan yelling during a normal game, leading to his itchy trigger finger in the case of ejecting him. At least, that's my thoughts on the matter...

See that's most the problem. We have too many officials knowing what is going on in the stands and who is there. Also, there is way too much scoreboard watching by officials which makes them tense up and make even dumber calls. I have stated before in other threads and will here as well. What bothers me the most is the laziness and the out of shape-ness of some of these officials. Take pride in the uniform you're having to wear and get your butts in shape. Hustle and make it at least look like you know what you are doing. It is a disgrace to other officials that actually work and know the rules of each sport they officiate.

  13. Unless an official is physically threatened or cursed at - audibly in the range of many - he or she needs to keep his/her attention on the court.

I dont care if its Joe Schmoe, Bruce Pearl or George Bush doing the heckling....thats the way it should be.

Exactly, and the bad thing about TSSAA officials is most of them are too soft-skinned to be doing ANY form of officiating. I was at a game just last week and a fan yelled out "that's a walk" on a blatant travel, and the official starting looking in the stands for this "evil person." That in itself is officiating 101. Never look in the stands unless all Hades is breaking out. But unfortunately what you get is a bunch of men that have either the "short man syndrome" with a whistle and feel important, or you have the social rejects that have no clue what is going on but are out there because they feel like they belong to something. I have always said I would never say anything to an official unless one they are completely out of position, which happens about 100 times a game. Or two they are blatantly bad, or initiate something with a player. Which happens about 10 times a game. Heck in the same game a shot was made and ALL 3 officials watch the ball. Don't get me wrong, there are a few officials that are respectable and do a decent job. But the TSSAA needs to re-evaluate the officials and go from there.

And as for whoever said that Bruce Pearl was alot like Bobby Knight and was more about show I would ask have you ever played any sport in college? To me there was nothing better than knowing that I had a coach that cared, and a coach to where if we felt like we were getting shafted would stand up for us. I can promise you that if you go to a UT basketball game you won't see many players showing up officials or arguing calls. That IS the coach's job and Pearl does it wonderfully. And whatever it is he is doing to the UT basketball program, he needs to continue it.

  14. I am looking for it on the internet o giver of knowledge, that's what I'm doing.

Don't use I remember. Refer to yourself in the third person please. It makes your teammates look better. If you practiced half as hard as you run your mouth on this board you would be a decent player. You're in the middle of your season, let your game on the court do the talking. Won't be quite as loud.

  15. Thank you so very much for your help with my hopeful recovery.

Again What Conference games are there this week?

Thou are welcome. Again I didn't wanna say you out of fear it may give thou problems which would throw thou back to saying I or me. But is not nearly as bad as referring to thyself in the third person. Almost as annoying as Kellen Winslow calling himself a soldier. As far as who plays...check it on the internet since thou are wasting quality class time to post on CoachT.

  16. The stupid category huh? Yeah because everyone on here would know that when I said me or I that I was talkin about BD Snow wouldn't they? To refer to myself in the first person and have to spend all that time explaining myself would be stupid and a waste of time let alone confusing for everyone on coacht except barb, cruel, and you apparently.

signed Bd Snow, Now a proud member of the stupid category

I need an update of the conference games this week. Plus, who in the IMAC played last night?

That's a little better. First step to recovery is admitting there is a problem

  17. Yeah it is actually. But it comes off as arrogant to say I and Me and if you have ever met me you'd know that those aren't two words used to describe me.

Doesn't sound as arrogant you are right. But with all the arrogant points you save, you use them all back up in the stupid category. Understandable though, probably was a good idea in your head.

  18. Sorry for my mistake but the answer to your question is easy....ME :thumb:

Oh yeah and President Andrew Johnson.

Both are close, but not quite. The answer the panel was looking for was Highway 11E. However, those were two good guesses
