1. I assumed that the coach had communicated what he was trying to do with the players, but I think that the question and replies were too quick to question the coach's motives and tactics, especially before the regular season has started, and more so if a parent is questioning his system. I still think that a coach who is teaching new ideas, such as a zonal defense to players who have only played man-to-man, is commendable. The players that he is training may be the coaches that take over the program in future years, and the more ideas that they are introduced to may help the program in the future.

  2. i think that it is unfair for any of us to judge what the coach has or has not done, and it is unfair to judge what the coach knows or doesn't. we all know that it depends greatly on the experience and talent of the players as well as the training. I would compliment a coach who is trying to train his/her players to play a zone in the back, especially if they have never played a zone. It may take the team most of the season if not years to play it correctly if never played before, not 2 or 3 games.

  3. Can anybody give details of what is happening at tnfc other than the firing and resignation of several coaches and DOC's? I know there was a disagreement b/t the board and the DOC, but are they going to be able to continue as a club?

  4. Yes- that is what the TSSAA website says. I know the winners of the first two games play the top two seeds: BGA v. JPII and MBA/BA v. Father Ryan. So- I would assume the winners of those games advance, but the third team? Loser's play?

It is ridiculously confusing, but the winners of the semi final games will go to Baylor. The champion of the middle will play the champion of the East for the Region Championship and the number 1 Middle/East Region seed. The #2 seeds, East and Middle, will play each other for seeding purposes only. Obviously the winner will be the 3rd seed and the loser the 4th seed.

The loser of the two semifinal games in the Middle will play one another at the higher seed in Middle Tennessee, not Chattanooga, on Saturday.

I don't know if that makes any sense...a diagram may be necessary.

  5. This is true and not to take anything away from Danny because I think he is the best around. But the goalie always gets credit it seems for shutouts. He did not get tested thanks to our defense. Our defense got the shutout really. Andrew Roden, Chris Wilson are stalwarts as always. The others that Weekley was trying out did a good job...Burt is still out hurt. The team played well and was aggressive winning the ball.

If you are going to split hairs, the entire team should get credit for the shutout, not just the back four.

  6. Richard Mulrooney--CBHS--played for full national team in 2002 World Cup

    Chad Johnson--GK--CBHS--caps for national team

Ross Paule--retired MLS, Colorado Rapids, retired due to # of concussions

  7. I was at the match and have not dog in the hunt, and I will say this:

The call was a bad call. 1) The Baylor player was, indeed, outside the box. 2) Her arms were straight down - the ball hit her arm as her arm was extended straight down and at her waist. The ball was hit hard enough that she did not have time to react and bring her arm up. It was a bad call, period. How disappointing that an official who is supposed to be invisible (in terms of having a direct effect on the outcome of the match) ends up playing such a pivotal role in the outcome of the match. The PK changed the whole complexion of the match - a fellow colleague (seating at the match with me) and I were commenting about how surprised we were with how much Baylor was controlling and dictating play for the entire match. Aside from a little second half spurt at the very beginning of the half (to be expected), Baylor was in control of the match and only after the PK did it become a match that went back and forth.

The save from the BGA keeper was phenomenal, though. I would love to see it again.

Tape of the game shows that she was clearly in the box. Congratulations to both sides for great seasons.

  8. You play 2 full 10 minute over time periods. If there is not a winner, you play 2 five minute golden goal over time periods. Then PK's. Something different about the PK's is that the shooters don't have to be on the field at the end of the overtime period to take a PK.

  9. QUOTE(c-town soccer @ Apr 26 2007 - 11:14 AM) 826445896i'm not trying to get people to talk good about me, i just wanna know what other people think about my performance this year and what i need to work on in the future.

Ask your coach. He is the one who knows your weaknesses the best.

  10. QUOTE(bruinsoccer @ Apr 19 2007 - 12:42 PM) 826441138where does MBA play their home games?

Are they on the artificial turf?

doesn't this give them an advantage over teams that aren't used to that stuff?

When you are playing mba, the last thing that you need to worry about is the surface, but to answer your question, they play on a natural grass pitch to the west of the football stadium, but the lax team plays on the artificial field.

    mba 2 houston 1

  11. The experience and size of Blackman showed. How many seniors did they start? It was the first time that many of BGA's young players had played in a game of that intensity. BGA responded well in the second half and will look forward to a good season as they gain experience. Looking at their schedule, it doesn't get much easier.

  12. QUOTE(SpeedyGonzo @ Mar 30 2007 - 11:58 AM) 826426554There are a lot of people, players and parents that say the last three teams CBHS had were the best in the state. Maybe memphis people are wrong. Do other teams have so many club players try out that some club players can't even make the freshman, JV or varsoty teams?

Just because you are a club player does not make you a quality player. We could debate all day long why Brothers lost the last two state championship games, and many would argue that they were the better team all around, but were only beat by a team that was better that particular day, and if the teams were to play ten times, brothers might win 7 of the ten games.

I would like to know the weaknesses and strengths of the team this year.

  13. QUOTE(No1ScoresOnMe @ Mar 29 2007 - 02:29 PM) 826425918The flat back 4 is a death trap. All it takes to beat that kind of defense, regardless of the defenders' talent, is an easy through ball or a backside switch. It also relies too much on the offside trap, and this could be effective if high school refs were better at making accurate(strongly stress this word) offside calls, but I've never found it logical to have your defense rely heavily on a referee's whistle.

I disagree about the flat back four; although I do agree with the officials. The problem with running the flat back four in hs soccer is that it is difficult to find the right players and have enough time to train them properly in how to play the system. HS soccer is unique in that on the same team you could have a regional pool player and an average rec player on the same team. The coach has to find the right system to play for his team. He can't stay with a system, just because he likes it best. He must adjust what type of system he/she plays based on the players that he has available to him/her.

I didn't mean that to be a smart aleck question. I don't have a dog in the fight. Could they according to TSSAA rules?
