  1. KHS142, some of your comments I would agree with, some I don't. Let me start by saying that I mainly look in this area for players that have the ability to play at the next level. I refer them to a couple of schools that have contracted me to "birddog" for them. I have made it no secret what I do, but do keep my identity disclosed only for professional reasons.

To address my knowledge of Kingston baseball. Yes, I do know the "coach", and am, have been, and will be, critical of some of his decisions. As I have been with other coaches on here. I have walked in their/your shoes. I give my opinions, as well as your can. You can like them, or dislike them. That really doesn't matter to me. What does matter is the fact that the talent that this coach has been given is not, and has not, been elevated for those that aspire to play at the next level. I have seen him leave pitchers in far too long. As he apparently did at the district tournament. I do know that he changed a batting order that had worked for the last week of regular season play, in the first game against AC, that produced 2 hits. Am I a fan of his, obviously not. For many years I have watched the same things happen, that most coaches wouldn't get away with. I will say that some parents were of the opinion that he wasn't playing the LC game to win. I wasn't there, just heard those comments. Other than leaving the pitcher in for too long, I don't know where they justify those opinions. Just stating what I was told.

You obviously don't appreciate the observations that I have made, or the comments from parents that I have relayed on this forum. I can respect that. I don't know where the hypocritical part is coming from, but that's alright also. I'm pretty thick skinned and would think Bruce is too.

By the way, I graduated from Harriman H.S. in the mid-70's. Played a little college ball, A ball, coached at a JR. College, now semi-retired. Had two kids, girl and boy, play sports at Kingston. Yes, my son played for Bruce. Thought at that time he lacked the knowledge to teach and manage the game, and still do. Do I like him as a person, yes. Just don't think his intentions for coaching are what they should be at the h.s. level.

I'm going to move on for now. Kingston's season is over. I'll be at the Rockwood/Harriman games this afternoon and will critique those coaches and athletes as well.

  2. Missed the game between LC and Kingston, and AC and Loudon. Spoke to a few parents from Kingston. All said that once again, coach left a pitcher in too long and it cost him. Actually, cost the team. Said the lefty did all he could do, but ran out of gas in the 5th inning. I believe it was 3-0 LC going into B6 when Kingston tied the game 3-3. LC pulls starter, Kingston opts to stay with obviously tired pitcher. Top of 8 LC hits solo homerun to go ahead. Kingston pulls pitcher. Kingston loses game.

If the above is correct, why would you not pull the lefty when the game got tied 3-3? If my information is correct, Kingston still had Adams, Ashcraft, Gurney, and Piper, that they could have brought in to attempt to save the game. What ashame!

Congrats to LC for advancing. Looks like Kingston got out coached for the second time in two nights! Shame on you Bruce.

  3. Best game I have seen AC play all year. Very well prepared and very well coached. Pitcher did an outstanding job keeping Kingston batters of balance. Nice shot by McGowen! Sealed the deal.

Kingston got out played and out coached. Looked like either Kingston was too confident or just flat. Kingston pitcher didn't have his best night. Looked like the coach switched up his batting order. Why? Who was the kid that played right field and batted #2 in the order? This is the 1st game I have seen him play, except when he has pitched. Why the shake up in a batting order that seemed to work last week for 4 games?

Good luck to both teams. Prediction- Loudon & AC to advance. 2 best teams in tournament. Kingston looks like they are ready for summer. AC & Loudon look hungry!

  4. Let's see. Who would have that authority? Umpire. Law enforcement. School administrator. TSSAA offiical. You figure it out.

Your right on one point. I shouldn't have used this forum to single her out. Although, she singled herself out at the game. Yes, I could have and probably should have singled her out when I heard her comments. My mistake. It won't happen again.

Let's move on. Play Ball!! See you at Loudon. Looking forward to a good game.

  5. Right now, my answer would be Harriman. They are the only team that can beat themselves before they get to Memphis. Coach Adcox has done a great job with this talented group. Stay focused. Don't look ahead and play them one at a time. From here on, every game is the Championship game.

Best of luck to all Roane Co. teams!

  6. It's high school baseball; get over it!

Your exactly right. I follow hs baseball, partly because it's my job, the other part because I love watching the players play with passion. I don't come to games to hear parents using foul language because they disagreed with an umpires call. There's a line that you don't cross with the language, and too many adults are crossing that line these days. Even have heard some kids getting away with it to umpires and coaches. This should never happen!

In my job, I'm looking for athletes that not only have the talent to play at the next level, but also have the morals and attitude to handle the pressures of the next level. Unfortuantely, I'm finding less and less of that these days. Yes, I also look at the parents as well. If you have parents that continueously stay on umpires, players, coaches, etc., typically the kids follow in that same path as far as attitudes. Playing with passion and attitude is not what we are talking about here. We are talking about class and respect. Class to know when enough is enough and respect for those not having a choice but to listen. What about respect for your child? Do you really think he/she is proud of how some of these parents act or the language they are using?

I'll close with this. I have watched many kids play the game of baseball. Most at the hs level are aspiring to play at the college level. When a recruiter/scout comes to watch a player or players, do you think they are only watching the players talent and attitude? No. They are also looking at the parents. When you sign a player to a college scholarship, your not just getting the player, your getting the parents too.

Oh, one last comment on this issue. I'll never get over it!

  7. Baseballfan9383, as mentioned before, I expected to get some back lash from that statement. So, thats not a problem. 1st let me say, I don't know the red head or any of the other mom's or dad's on AC's team. Towards the end of the game, I do know what I and many others heard. Make no mistake, it was not language that I would want my kids hearing! Luckly, my kids are grown. The reason I brought this up on this forum is simply this, we all get emotional at sporting events, but show some common refrain with the language. I pointed out the red head because I heard most of it from her mouth and did when Kingston played at AC earlier in the year. "out of hand", I disagree with. "out of the ordinary" I believe that.

I won't comment about your last sentence. But will say this, if this happens at Loudon next week, and I'm there, I will see that anyone using that kind of language is removed from the park. Will that make you feel better?

  8. I don't think Kingston played like "crap", or AC for that matter. Did either play at the top of their game? No.

As usual, Kingston left a pitcher in for at least an inning too long. AC couldn't capitalize on Kingston mistakes and left too many runners stranded. Kingston did capitalize on AC mistakes and got the runners across the plate. Part of baseball and that's what usually happens when 2 good teams meet. Look at the 1st meeting at AC. Kingston didn't play well. AC played good, not great, but good. AC won the game by 1 run. Agree, it would be nice to see both teams playing at the top of their game. Maybe we'll see that Monday.

One more thing. I'll get bashed for this, but here it goes anyhow. Leave the whinning Mom's at home! Especially the red head. What a mouth. I didn't know that women in Anderson Co. used that kind of language! Keep it on that side of the county line, or at least on your side of the field. Their are small kids around, if for no other reason.

  9. Solid team! Should make a run for the title if everyone stays healthy and Eble can pitch. Coach Adcox has done a great job with this group. Unfortunantely, most are seniors. With Hall, Eble, Hampton, etc., leading the way, these guys are having an outstanding year. You could say that Cummings has stepped up big, but what about Thomas? Got to be the surprise of the year!

Good luck during tournaments! Go big Blue!!

  10. correct me if i'm wrong, but if a pitcher walks a batter and that batter ends up scoring off a base hit, wouldn't that be an "earned run"? The same with a hit batsman. I believe at least 3 of the 4 runs were "earned" during that game. Could be wrong. Really doesn't matter though, Everett is a good pitcher, but will need to work on his self control to survive at the next level. Saw him show alot of emotion during that game. By the way, a little advice, stop looking at your dad everytime something doesn't go your way.

  11. Why was the OS/Kingston game canceled last night? I know that it rained, but the only spot on the field that needed any work was around 1st base, and that could have been taken care of very easily. Some of these coaches are canceling games way too early in the day. Non-district games, o.k., but you don't cancel district games unless its impossible to play. We all want perfect playing conditions, but it ain't going to happen everyday.

Better hope it doesn't rain any next week! What a scheduling mess that will be.

  12. my understanding is that the Kingston/AC make-up is scheduled for next Wed., 05/04. If that's the case, LC, AC, & Kingston will all have a pretty tough week! LC/Kingston is Tues. & Thurs., Kingston/AC Wed., AC/LC Monday or Friday. What a week for this district. Everyone got enough pitching to get through these tough district games in the same week?

  13. learn to beat them! You answered your on question. District games! If Everett were to pitch 1 game per district series, that is 5 games for the regular season. If I had a couple other solid pitchers, I wouldn't throw Everett except for district games. District games, regions games, etc. is what matters.

  14. What happened with the game scheduled for Tuesday? Went by the field to watch the game and saw Kingston hitting in the cage, but no game. The field looked in good shape, at the very least, playable. Bruce up to his old tricks? Tournament time is creeping up, you going to wish you got these games in when you could.

Any dates been set to reschedule?

  15. on the west side of farragut, I'll go with Sam Cummings- Harriman, Kyle Adams- Kingston, Charlie Seivers- Webb. I'm sure I've left someone out, but these guys are gamers and will give you everything they've got. They can go into battle with me anytime!

What about some of the Bearden players? I know of a few that haven't been mentioned.
