  1. Yeah your right about that. The two games on the first day really hurt you if you lose one. Because then you don't get the day off, and now your 1-3 pitchers have probably thrown. I'm kind of suprised that the public schools in A allowed the tournament to be expanded. Anyway, Goose, why doesn't RCN do A Baseball/Softball Section like it does for Football and Basketball? I guess its probably less people are interested or will buy adds than for the other two sports. Thats too bad that the public intrest is lacking considering more teams in the county are competetive in baseball/softball than are in football or basketball.
  2. Good to hear they did well, but well, they should beat those teams by 20. Next weekend you guys get into some better teams down in Nashville. A loss down there will probably help your team more than 40 games aginst Whitwell. Next weekend will help you guys a whole lot more later this spring, good luck. Hope to see yall come away with a few wins down there.
  3. Tigers lost 13-3 to Gordon Lee (GA). Rockwood didnt play bad, but they didnt play good either. After Chandler, Payne, and Gilmore the pitching staff is unexperienced. Zach Breazeale started and got hit hard. Everything he threw was drilled in the gap between SS and 3rd. Zach Duncan pitched about an inning also, giving up a run. C. Willis, and Cooper got in an inning or two also. It was good experience for the unproven group of freshmen though. Rockwood had a brief scare when Morgan and Gilmore collided in Right Center Field. Morgan left the game, but no injury. To be able to do anything in Memphis, Rockwood's going to need a 4th and 5th reliable arm for an inning or two. That was partly a problem last year in the 2nd game in state, Coach Lane had to leave Seth in longer than he probably shouldve because he had to have Chandler and Payne to pitch the next game. In the past when the state tourny was only 4 teams 3 pitchers would probably get you, but with 8 teams 3 just isnt going to cut it. Hopefully todays outing will help build some of the young guys into that 4th reliable arm. Rockwood goes 3-1 against 4 good teams including a AAA team and last years state runner up in A in 3 days this weekend.
  4. Maybe next year but this year OS aint in district 4-A. Is Chase going to be the all district Courtesy runner/bull pen catcher?
  5. 3ish, When I had left the second game of pool B had just begun. Columbia won the first game against FRA. But I have yet to see a score on Gordon Lee v FRA or GL vs CA, So i'm not sure who Rockwood plays tomorrow
  6. Rockwood Swept bracket A and will play tommorrow in the Lookout Valley Classic Championship agaisnt the winner of Bracket B. Lockout Valley 3 RHS 4 (in 8) Corey Payne threw 6 innings of his best stuff but would earn no decesion as Lockout Valley tied the game and forced an extra inning. Corey Payne however was not done contributing to the team as he hit the game winning RBI in the bottom of the 8th. Mt. Pleasant 4 RHS 5 Dan Chandler pitched a complete game. It probably wasn't his best preformance but he battled and got out of bad situations with only a few runs scoring. As in the first game Rockwood lead most of the game. Only trailing for 1/2 an inning but Shane Doughty homered to left to scoring Chandler (CR Clem) to tie the game at 4. The Tigers had a chance to go ahead in the bottom of the 6th but a base running error by Allen caused a run down that changed 2nd and 3rd one out to 3rd and 2 outs. In the bottom of the 7th Rockwood loaded the bases and Shane Doughty hit a rope down the third base line to score his 4th RBI of the game (another runner wouldve scored had the game not been over.)
  7. Regular season Harriman (tie) Rockwood (tie) Coalfield Wartburg Sunbright Oakdale Oneida Rockwood wins district tournament by beating Oneida who upsets harriman j/k Rockwood will beat Greenback at home in the Regions Harriman will beak CAK in the regionals Rockwood wins region in 14 inning game (double perfect game through 8 (Chandler and Eble)) Rockwood eventually wins because they have 50 players and outlast harriman. Harriman beats University High advances to state Rockwood beats Unaka advances to state and meet 4 games latter for the state championship
  8. I only put 4 Rockwood players on the list. The rest was just a few ames to watch out for but I didnt make them preseason All-district. I choos not to say anything about the other teams because I don't know enough about anyone besides Harriman to really give you a good all district team.
  9. What are you going by? Rockwood's freshmen are quite a long ways from being able to contribute alot this year. Just because there are 20 of them doesn't mean they are the greatest ever.
  10. From the Rockwood team I'd have to pick Goddard, Willis, Cook and Chandler. An honorable mention to Payne and Whitaker. Morgan, Peddicord, Gilmore and from what I've seen in scrimages Bryan Allen and one or two other freshmen will have a chance to play in spots. C. Willis transfered in and will try and earn a spot playing just as his cousin turned a few heads when he won a spot on the team.
  11. I was looking at the roster today and was wondering how many TD we expect out of Zach Breazeale and whether Curt Boston was a blocking TE or a TE with good hands?
  12. It has been said that rain is the great equilizer. Last night that was proved true. The first half saw GP score a field goal after a fmble on the first play of the game gave them a short field. The rest of the first half was a large mud wrestle that resulted in a draw. Neither team had much success running out side the tackles, this probably worked in GP's favor as Rockwood's speed was just about neutralized. The entire first half Rockwood played on their end of the field. After Half time Rockwood was able to flip the field when they forced a 3 and out. The third quarter would end after Matt Goddard opened up a big run t othe 5 yd line and then was hit out of bounds for an additional 2.5 yds from the Highlanders. On the first play of the 4th quarter Pendergrass banged it home from 3 yds out for Rockwoods first points of the game. After forcing Gatlingburg into a 3 and out Rockwood drove the ball to GP 5 yd line. ON 4th and 3 Rockwood QB Corey payne tried to call time out with one second on the play clock but was about 4 seconds late. After teh 5 yd penalty Gus booted home a Field Goal to give Rockwood a 10-3 lead. A 7 point lead with only 2 50 on the clock seemed insurmontable. But Not so Fast...GP rolled out a short pass game that moved the ball down the field to 10 yd line. It may have been better for GP had they not got so close to the end zone, as Rockwood's secondary could now use the back of the endzone as a 12th man. GP abandoned teh pass and tried to pound the ball in. After minimal gaines on the first couple of plays, GP's QB rolled out on a naked bootleg but the Tigers were not fooled. The GP QB was hit and the ball squirted out and Rockwood DL Dan Chandler fell on the ball. GP still had 3 time outs and 1 50 on the clock. Rockwood played failr conservatively runnign the ball up the gut for no yds on two plays. On third and 10 Payne gained 8 on a bootleg. Afte GP called their last time out Rockwood took an intential Saftey bringing th escore to 10-5. The insuing free kick landed fairly short and in the quagmire did not roll. Leaving GP with the ball around the Rockwood 45. Gp passed the first 3 downs connecting for about 8 yds. On 4th down the Highlanders tried to run it up the gut but Rockwood D-Line and Linebackers wouldnt allow it. Rockwood received the ball on downs and killed the clock. This was a classic game, an old fashioned mud bath. Rockwood won the game without a single completion. Injury notes: Rockwood RB Billy Moffit left the game in the first half with a leg inury. Rockwood DT Jeremy Broome did not play because of back spasms.
  13. Don't know a whole lot about Sout Greene. Except they lost to Happy Valley and G-P. Any S Greene fans have anything to say about your team?
  14. Thank 52 of Rutledge for winning the game for Rockwood. The Tigers came out a little bit slow but the total lack of class by the Pioneers got them fired up. Rutledge is probably the dirtiest team I have ever see play. Have a player through a punch in the pile resulting in an ejection and another player with a shot to the head of Payne after the play was 10 yds down field. I'm sure we will not schedule a game with them and anyone that Coach Webb talks to wont either.
  15. The picture got much clearier tonight, and only one game will mean anything next week in region 1AA. Region 1AA is G-P 1st, Happy Valley-2nd winner of S Greene/Hampton-3rd, loser 4th. Winner of S Greene/Hampton will travel to Rockwood, the loser travels to Alcoa. Region 2AA is Alcoa then Rockwood. the four remaining teams all have differing levels of still getting in the playoffs. The most likely case is Sweetwater 3rd and Wartburg 4th. But those teams can miss the playoffs and Harriman and/or Oliver Springs could sneak in.
