  1. The best thing about a message board like coacht is that you can read or not read the posts. I was a huge private/public debate poster when Harpeth was playing in an ABC district with a distinct competitive disadvantage and no natural rivalries. But, how much further do we really want this thing watered down? We are crowning 8 football champions as it is. I would say two divisions. Those that do not have distinct boundaries and those that do. 4 classes. Big and small in each division. And then play.

I have to say too that I hate the 'this is my last post' posts. Nobody's opinion is going to change one way or the other and you've only set yourself up for failure. You gonna read and not post? Want to post but won't after the ultimatum? Stay away for awhile and come back strong next year.

Great point. We all have our moments. Heck, I've always tried to be a civil poster but even I had a bad day posted something I regretted and apologized for. Took some time off and came back. Nothing involving this place should be so serious. We're all here ultimately to encourage high school athletics and the athletes that play them as well as support our respective communities.

Like Kvols said, just take a breather and come back next year

  2. Both games should be very good. Central and Craigont should match-up well with each other. I'm concerned about the match-up for Bartlett with East with the Mustangs talented and much bigger front line but Bartlett's back court is as good as anyone's and have been playing very well.

I won't begin to venture a guess who will win either game but it'll be fun either way.

  3. Please don't tell you are basing the number 1 seed off of the Coach T strength of schedule. Public Service Announcement.... The Coach T strength of schedule is Based on wins and losses only. It does not measure the level of competition. Dyer County has a good team but not number 1. Southwind and Ridgeway are the best in AAA period. They are ranked 11th and 12th nationally for a reason.

And even then Southwind loses to Memphis East tonight 87-80. Crazy things happen in post-season.

  4. Congratulations to Arlington. I know the coaches and many of the players and I couldn't be happier for them. Scrappy bunch and they play hard. Good job

Sorry to see the season end for Dyer Co but the Choctaws have a program everyone respects. They'll be back next year I'm sure

  5. There's another whole county between Bolivar and Shelby Co. It's probably 70-80 miles away. I always got a kick out of some of the ESPN guys when they were doing Memphis or UT basketball games. Some of them would call Bolivar a suburb of Memphis.

That sounds about right. It's about an hour and 20 to 30 minute drive.

  6. Robert Hubbs should have been in the three finalist for AAA Mr. Basketball. Hope they advance so more people will appreciate his talent. Agree they need to play a sub state game at home, but they have a tough road just to get to a substate game. They did not play well in the District Tournament.

I've heard lots of good things about Hubbs. I can't make it up to DC but I'll be at Arlington for the semi's should they advance. I know a lot of folks at Arlington to I can't root against them but I'll be glad to see Hubbs play if I get the chance.

  7. 1998- white county,E. Harding

1999- Moore co. , White co.

    2000- fulton

    2001- Chatt. Christian

    2002- Temple

    2003- Giles co., Temple

    2004- Unaka

    2005- Middleton

    2006- union city, Liberty

    2007- Maryville, Libery, Temple

    2008- Fulton, Union city

    2009- fulton

    2010- Clarksville,

    2011- Liberty, Lake co.

Im including Liberty on my list because they are no more a Memphis team than a Nashville team. Looks pretty good to me as to the rest of the state holding their own, since u claim to be the worlds hotspot for high school Bball.

Memphis a national hotbed for individual high school basketball talent, it's not a guarantee of a state championship.

Again, I really think we're arguing the wrong point. Only eight teams can go to the tournament and a lot of very good teams are eliminated along the way from all over the state. It's just that in general it's been harder for Memphis teams to make it through to the state tournament due to the fact that there are usually more than three or four teams competing in the same district or region capable of winning the state tournament. Only two can make it but as I've stated before it doesn't matter where you're from, if you make it to the 'Boro you deserve to be there and if you bring back a Gold Ball then you don't have to prove anything to anyone....just point to the trophy

  8. Dyer Co. plays Arlington in the first round of the region tournament. Dyer Co. beat Arlington earlier this season 93-80 at Dyer Co. Arlington is 20-11, but has impressive wins over Craigmont as well as Brighton. There's no reason why Dyer Co. should not win, but don't overlook anyone. I'd like to see DC make it to the 'boro this year!

I agree. Arlington is a tough team but it's awful hard to beat Dyer Co on their home floor. Honestly, the potential of a Dyer County vs Craigmont match-up has me excited. That would be a great game. Dyer Co, Bartlett, and Craigmont are all good enough to make it to the 'Boro but Southwind and Ridgeway are very,VERY good. They can be beat but it'll be tough.

    Best of luck to everyone.

  9. Sir, I respect your posts, but please dont act like Bartlett is not part of the Memphis Metro area. this is not a conversation about the school system merger so please save it for us. WE ARE TALKING ABOUT THE MEMPHIS AREA BASKETBALL. And bartlett is soooooo in the Memphis area. lol. just as well as desoto county which is in Mississippi (for Yall who dont know). We know that players transfer for mcs to scs to dcs all the time. This is the memphis area. Just had to bring you back to reality because you were getting into the politics of the merger.

I did not mean to offend. It was wrong to bring local poilitcs into this/ I won't bring it up again. I fully appreciate Memphis and what it does for all areas around. As I said, I LOVE the area, I just don't like to feel overwhelmed if you know what I mean.

  10. Memphis & Jackson Area Championships since 98: Add em up

    1998 – Kingsbury

    1999 – Carver

    2000 – Ridgeway, Whitestation

    2001 – Booker T. Washington, Bartlett

    2002 – Ridgeway, Whitestaion

    2003 – Whitestation

    2004 – Bolivar, Whitestation

    2005 – Bolivar, Ridgeway

    2006 – Liberty, Hamilton

    2007 – Liberty,

    2008 - Ridgeway

    2009 – Mannassas, Whitestation

    2010 – Bolivar, Melrose

    2011- Liberty, Craigmont

Even though Bartlett, Liberty, and Boliver are not Memphis teams I think the point shouldn't be so much about how many state championship teams Memphis has produced but rather how hard it is to get out of Memphis just to have a chance at a state title.

The bottom line is of you make to the final field of eight you deserve to be there wherever you hail from. How you got there and who you went through makes for nice message board banter but all that matters is what you do in the Murphy Center.

  11. To be completely fair, it's news for that to happen in Cordova as it's not typically the kind of area you would expect that sort of thing to happen.

Although I agree 1,000,000,000% with the OP's overall opinion of Memphis City Schools which is why when the "merger" goes through you'll see municipal school districts in Bartlett, Arlington, Germantown, Millington, Collierville, and Lakeland.

  12. That was done,,,, the official refused to do anything...Two years in a row that Dyer County was beat with people on the floor with 6 fouls.....coincidence,,,,,,,,The Fact that TSSAA does nothing is what is really scary....If you allow excuses that all you end up with.....If the TSSAA would make some example of this, it would stop happening..... I guess as long as they get there money and walk around looking for any violation anyone else might make ...but they wont or cant correct their own.....IMHO

Ok, I had just been wondering. In that case, DC did all they could do at the time. That really does need to be reviewed. I completely understand an official not wanting to be embarrassed or think he/she is being " shown up" but a mistake of that magnitude must be corrected and to not do so is inexcusable. Regardless of what player is involved in any game, you have to get that right.

Sorry, I know it's over and done with now but that's just wrong.

Unfortunately, things happen - please refrain from pointing fingers because it will cause this great topic WS vs DC to be shut down because people will start inputing their personal feelings. This game is over with so let's move on....I hope all Gold balls come back West of the river....

I haven't posted here in almost a year. I apologize if I'm late

The thread will get shut down if people can't control themselves. That's up to each person to act with maturity. Now, I'm not pointing fingers nor hurling insults. I was just making a point and a valid one, I believe. That is all. Nothing more.

**EDIT** I mean no disrespect to you personally. I fully understand the spirit in which you message is given.

  14. The foul was called on #11 who was on the bench, instead of #1 and a minute later Jackson fouled again which was his 5th.. He was the shooter at the end of the game shooting free throws when he should have been sitting on the bench. If you do not know how fouling him out might have changed the momentum of the game...then you dont understand basketball imho

I've stayed out of this whole mess but I the only thing I don't understand ( and haven't seen anybody to bring up or ask ) is where was the official scorer during all this ? If a foul is called on a player who isn't on the floor, I'm telling the clock operator to hit that buzzer and get the official over here. I just don't see how that is allowed to happen.

  15. It's really great to be in the playoffs and getting to stay close to home for starters. Battling the Golden Wildcats will be a great challenge, even more so on their home field. They're a great program with a lot of history and tradition. Yes, even at 6-4 , I wouldn't even begin to take the the least bit lightly. These guys are good.

Bartlett finally got over that hump it seems. Let's just hope it continues.

I love my Panthers but 4-6 isn't that great a record but they fought hard and did what they had to do in order to earn a playoff berth. Bartlett let at least 4 games slip away in the 4th quarter on missed assignments or turnovers. The talent was there but they hurt themselves. Some injuries along the way didn't help. The last two weeks have been very encouraging. Against Craigmont they looked like a playoff team.

It should be a tremendous game Friday night. Here's for an exciting and injury-free 1st round.
