  1. Straying a bit...Going out on a limb and giving the win to Bartlett. Think that C'mont makes too many mistakes...If they get by here though, look for a short playoff stint...No way a team that makes as many errors as the Chiefs gets very far!

This comes from the same person who said Millington's "region dominance continues" in predicting the Millington/Craigmont game. I also recall asking you what game you were referring to when you talked about our "zillion" mistakes in the Arlington/Craigmont game topic and never got a response. Yeah, mistakes are made on the football field but name me a team that plays mistake free football. These are high school kids after all and they will make mistakes from time to time. All that being said, I would really appreciate it if people would refrain from trashing other teams on here instead of just saying something like "well this team does this well and that team does that well." Is it possible to do that???

I think that Craigmont wins this one.... And It won't even be close. Craigmont has talent. I think McFerrin will have a field day vs the Bartlett Defense and I think that the athletic Craigmont defense will give the Bartlett offense fits. My prediction, for what it's worth, is

    Craigmont 20 Bartlett 7

    Go Trojans!!

It'll be a tough battle for Bartlett to be sure. Craigmont is has talent indeed. It's a game that won't be lacking for drama given what's a stake. I don't offer up predictions but it should be a fun ( and likely soggy) atmosphere. For all intents and purposes, this kinna is a playoff game. Just hope for no injuries and a big crowd.

Wasn't this all about Arlington and Millington ? :roflol:

  2. The game should come down to 2 big things: the success of either team's offensive line and turnovers. You're going to have a soggy field which will make for a wet pigskin and more difficult footing. If both teams try to pound it out..............

Only thing I know for sure is this, it's Bartlett-Bolton. In the words of good ole' JR, Look for a good ole'-fashioned slobberknocker. :thumb:

  3. I take it then it was going to be held at Raleigh-Egpyt? Was there a scheduling conflict with that field ?

TigerBert.....Things are about to get really busy for you, Isn't it?....

The game was scheduled for Greenhill but the field is in such bad condition that the Craigmont coaches decided to take the money and move the game to Millington. It was probably a good decision on their part. There would be a sparse crowd atGreenhill and the chances of getting someone hurt seemed alot higher... .

    Go Trojans!

Man, you're not kidding. It's already gettin busy with fundraising and whatnot. What's great for me this year is I'm doing freshmen again and assisting an old friend, Greg Tucker ( played pg at Bartlett back in '99 and 2000). That'll also allow me to return to the broadcast booth for varsity games. While I did enjoy last year at varsity and would gladly do it again, I'm really looking forward to calling some basketball. I've missed that. Hope you and yours are doing well :roflol:

Yeah, that makes a lot more sense for both teams. Should be a good one.

  4. I was actually congratulating Overton on my post. I can only imagine the joy and elation those kids from Overton must have felt last night after the beatings night after night those kids have taken for years. Fighting on and persevering are two of the attributes coaches try and instill in their players and thank God for the victories whenever and wherever they come. So again CONGRATULATIONS TO OVERTON!

Visionaire, You were taking cheap shots at Munford as much as you were "CONGRATULATING OVERTON"! I'm a Millington alumni and fan, and I think it's kind of embarrassing to think your representing the Trojans with shots like that at another school especially a neighboring school with kids we all know and that grew up around us. If you have a personal agenda with a Tipton co. buddy that's talking smack to you then handle it with him. I notices RobM. also made a cheap comment about loving to see munford lose in another post "Congratulating Overton" . Grow up guys and show some class!! Oh and no disrespect to Overton. Great win guys! :thumb: Sorry VIS.. I just call it like I see it also!!

Largely agree with not taunting others teams................but

I have to take up fro RobM, though. Now, I didn't read the comment you alluded to ( and Rob can gets his licks in from time to time ) but he is as stand up a guy as I've ever run into in high school athletics. He's done A LOT for Millington, both the football program and the school at large. I'll cut him a little slack

  5. For the record, ESPN also airs the World Series of Poker and the IFOCE Nathan's International July Fourth Hot Dog Eating Contest.

Sport or no sport, ( which I fall into the latter ) watching the Ohio St band spell out " Ohio " is one the coolest things I've seen a band do.

  6. oh and for the girl comment, thats what drum corps does to you.

gets you in shape...... like sports do, but even more so.

i know a contra player... wait you dont know what that is. its a tuba, you know the big thing? he loses about 50 lbs in a summer marching corps. hes not a fat kid in general just tall (hes about 6' 2") , but when you move like day in and day out (rehearsals sometimes till 1 in the morning) your body sheds every ounce of body fat you could possibly possess.

drum corps kids are probably in better shape than 98% of your high school football team. they LIVE in thier SPORT for months solid, dawn till freaking dusk, even hours after dusk actually.

    $uck it.

Understanding that drum corps such as those that compete in DCI events are as close to a professional rank as you can get . Those folks are going to be in shape. I have a sister that marched with The Colts and she'd tell you she was in the best shape of her life. Now, the average age for a DCI corp is 19 so if you've made such a corp in high school that's quite an accomplishment. I'd be quite proud of that.

But most band kids aren't corp kids and a great many never will be. I mean in the top corps 8,000 people audition every year for less than 3,500 availible spots. It's tough. I admire what they do but that's the best of the best and not the rule of thumb.

  7. it was crazy-speed guns and stop watches. Most of the scouts were there to see Jason Thompson and Mike Faulkner. The Arkansas State, Mississippi State, Kansas City, Florida Marlins, Houston Astro's , Cleveland Indians, and the Met's scouts and coaches were there. I heard the lady in the concession stand they had never made that much money before.

Daniel Wright pitched a great game for Bartlett and Charlie Collins did well for Germantown. Hayes Britt closed for Germantown. It was just a great game and great coaches on both teams.

It was like being at a PG game in Georgia!!

Yeah, both pitching staffs were great that night. If I'm not mistaken, Hayes Britt had one streak where he rattled off 4 straight K's or so. Wright had 5.

You're right. That was fun game to watch. Great season opener.

  8. /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> very well said hasbeen and this kid wears a size 14 shoe already!!! And who is not entertained by Coach Clark-love him!!!

When Bartlett played Germantown the other night there were a combination of 11 scouts there-7 MLB and 4 college-it was insane-

    Wow...that's incredible

  9. So Mr Pantherbert you have to have panther in your name to be a bartlett supporter, so how long have you been in area. I been around when Bartlett was the only high school in the area besides bolton. I been around before it was name bartlett high school, i have been around a lot longer than mr pantherbert also how may generations of family have you sent their well if it has more than 4 than you have me beat. Well i guess you know nothing about a school in california. Sorry you dont like my school. Also i not saying the kid has talent i am saying some kids can get away with out having to pull their weight (running, working out, etc. ) and punishment work because of their talent and who they are and he has not been the first one to get away with the same thing in that camp. Some kids are made examples of because they are not as talented. Where were you at when we were playing ball at the field behide the school yes that right, behind the school.

    Thanks for filling me in.

Calm, calm, calm. I see your signature now( which can be a bit easy to miss ) and I can assure you I have nothing against USC or anyone else in the Pac-10 ( except UCLA.........can't stand those guys ). You must understand that when seeing a name like that, on a high school-related sight, my first thought turned to, say Millington and not USC. It was a misunderstanding and no harm was intended.

I'm grateful you're a Panther fan. We need all the Bartlett supporters we can get on Coacht. As I had explained, I don't normally frequent the baseball board until the season begins so there may be some posters here I don't know. Good to have someone with your background.

Looking forward to USJ tomorrow night.

  10. How do you figure they would win 2 of 3? Farragut was the better team, with the better players, and the better coach. Sounds like you Bartlett people are still bitter about Farragut beating you AGAIN in a state title game.

Maybe I haven't been poking around the baseball board long enough but I'm not sure anyone with "Trojan" in the name would be a Panther fan. I'm sure ya'll will fill me in.

On Farragut.....those guys are a machine. Super tough. Losing 2 out of 3 state championships to them hurts but that also means Bartlett has competed in 3 straight finals games. That just doesn't happen. ( unless you're Farragut,... /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> )

I'm sorry but I can't help but be proud of that and every student that dawned a Bartlett uniform who made it happen.

As far as the thread is concerned, a topic like this is pointless and silly at this juncture of the season. Player maturation, team maturation, chemistry, injuries................so much baseball to be played. Pick favorites and all but it's pretty much meaningless right now.

As far as my Panthers go.........Can they make it back to state ? Yes. Will they in the end? Who knows. It's by no means a sure thing. It never is. Never was. It's baseball.

  11. PantherB I agree:

    * Bartlett shot itself in the foot the first quarter with turnovers and Central was easily the aggressor.

    * Bartlett out played Central the second quarter and Bartlett was easily the aggressor.

    * Went away from James the 3rd quarter ??“ but that wasn??™t by design for BHS ??“ Central forced other players to handle the ball and that wasn??™t good for BHS because they couldn??™t get it back to James before turning it over. (not to mention Walker was on the bench to start the quarter with 3 fouls).

    * 4th quarter Central was in a stall game which basically wore the Panthers out playing defense for over a minute each possession. (Which was smart on Central??™s part??¦.)

SportsC ??“ don??™t attempt to give the perception that Central was up +50 and just lost focus when Bartlett closed it back to 7 points. Bartlett just played hard and better THAT quarter (unfortunately it takes 4 quarters) ??“ give credit where credit is due.

And to that point (speaking of giving credit): It will be hard for anyone in the state to beat Central (PERIOD). Half court or Full Court! The girls can play. You can easily win the state tournament with 7 players. Hellloooo: The high school game is a game without a shot clock. You get tired ??“ SLOW it down! All 5 of Central??™s starters can handle the ball!

Another note: Destiny James (a freshmen) set out a FULL year due to a Jr. High injury the previous season. I think she did a fabulous job to come back and make the all district and all region team and performed well on the highest division of basketball in the state (considering she didn??™t get released until about a week before the season started). You haven??™t heard the last from the James gang!

At any rate: Central will be fine in the state tournament.

The one thing (IMO) that Central has to be careful of is game number 1??¦??¦ What I call ???The Bright Lights Syndrome.??? If Central doesn??™t get too caught up in the moment and the hoopla of being at the state tournament AND they advance past the first round...... That Green/Yellow locomotive will be hard to stop! The key game (IMO) is the first game and getting past the ???The Bright Lights Syndrome???!

    Good luck Memphis Central /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

And the thing with Central is when they stall the ball they won't just hold the ball but rather have skill enough to properly move the ball around the defense. Not many teams can do that without loosing focus and eventually turning the ball over. That could end up serving Central well should then end up in tight ball game.

  12. I didn't see the pressure defense having too much to do with it. #25 for Bartlett just ran crazy. Central didn't make her do that. She was just out of control. Central couldn't stop Walker or the James sisters. They beat themselves. Destiny James looked pretty comfortable out there(but she's always cool and calm). Other than a game against East and a couple others, Central hasn't been a great offensive team, no spectacular offensive nights. As I said about the bench, they don't have one. You just said the 2 I mention are there to rest the starters, and you didn't name any other players. Point proven. They don't have one. I know one of the players' father and he says they're not a good half-court team. So it must happen often. They gotta push it, but they really don't have the depth to push and press for extended periods, so I understand that. Maybe the quality of precision on the high school level has just fallen off a bit and my mind has yet to adjust to it. So that causes me to see all of the errors that are actually pretty common place. Yeah that's it.

Meanwhile Central is 34-1 and 103-30 over the past 4 years.

Taking care of the ball has been a problem some this year for us, oddly enough more so in post-season play it seemed. Now, that said, I saw the same game you did and the Lady Panthers didn't help themselves out in stretches but Central was just the better overall team. Now, Bartlett got down to by 18 and cut it to 9 by the break ( and would have been 7 save for a last second put back ) That's a whale of an effort.

I was very, VERY proud of the them and how hard they fought but it's like DU already said....Bartlett would have had to have been near perfect to pull that one off that night.

Move along kids....nothing more to see here

  13. Yes Men's has a 10 second backcourt violation and women's does not. Women's has a 30 second shot clock and men's has a 35 second shot clock. Riddle me that batman?? I don't get it....

With the style of play today i would say 99% of the trips up and down the floor are less than 35 seconds. When you get to the end of the game you will see some more slow down but not a lot. It's just not part of the game anymore.

I just think it would help keep the game going when you run in to these games where a team just stands there at the end of the game. I can remember a game back in the early 90's where Lenoir City and Campbell County were in the region or sub-state and Lenoir City just stood there all night. Maybe it wasn't Lenoir City??? Regardless it happened and I know Campbell County was one of the teams. They completely off set the high powered offence that CC had by not giving them the ball all night. You can say that is good coaching for being scared to death of your opponent.

I don't know.. It would be interesting to see how it worked out....

In regards to a shot clock, you hit the nail on the head a few posts back. Finding someone to work it and work it properly would be a logistical nightmare.

I would ask this about that game you saw between Lenoir City and Campbell County. I'll agree that just holding the ball is usually " playing scared " but if CC just sat back in a zone then it says to me their defense isn't good enough to challenge. That's playing "scared" defensively. It says I'm not coming out because I might get carved up. I still contend that if a team's only recourse is to hold the ball then they probably don't have the ability to hold on to the ball if pressed.

  14. Well, if it's any consolation to you millingtonfan2007,pantherbert, or Bartlettgrad. I have some extra green and yellow t shirts we printed up and some rooms MarkH released from that hold at the Scottish Inn's. Please join us just in case that same official shows up in the Boro. I can be reached at 901-777-9311.

    How on earth did I get involved in this /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

  15. I, too, have officiated a long time and seen lots of officiating; but, I really refuse to publicly call out another official. I talk to people who have officiated or have a lot experience with officials about officiating. I talk to coaches about the demeanor of officials NOT about the job they do. We ALL have bad games occassionally. Officiating basketball is different from officiating football. Officiating football is different from officiating baseball. Officiating baseball is different from officiating soccer; and the list goes on and on. I don't know how long its been since you officiated basketball, but the game is ever changing. The players change every year. They get better. They are faster, quicker, stronger, and smarter. What I saw two years ago is not the same that I see today. When the three pointer first came into play, I believe it was a way to get the smaller player back into the game, because we were becoming dominated by big men. But, now the big men can shoot the three as well as the smaller players, so we are sort of right back where we started. PLAYERS CHANGE; so the game you officiated in November is not the same game you officiated in February. There is absolutely no way that I talk with just anyone about a job that my fellow football official did. I don't want them talking about me, so I don't talk about them. If there is a problem with their officiating, their supervisor is there to address it. I can't believe that we think that the TSSAA is just letting all of these 'terrible officials' go unsupervised. If we do, maybe it helps explain why the behavioral problems exist in our society; all of our educators have no managerial or supervisory ablilities and are letting our students run wild. Just like in other vocations or careers, whichever you choose to call it, we do have some people who need more work in officiating; but, I don't believe we have people who intentionally go out and sabotage games. I love teaching officials and sometimes think I do that better than officiate; but, I still refuse to publicly say that any particular official was terrible. Its hard enough coming from fans; but, it really makes me wonder what my partner and the coach are talking about if I'm working with an official who talks about the call I just made; constructive or not. And by the way, if I ever found out that an official sold me or my partner out, I will turn in every game assigned with that official, even if means not getting a schedule.

and I agree in as much as it's wrong to call someone out but that has not transpired in this thread. What happened was an official came on here and said that certain types of officials should probably hang it up. No names were mentioned. No one thrown under the bus.
