  1. I'm not trying to take away from Munford at all.Munford is having a terrific year. The Cougars came to play. Period. But Bartlett never seemed nsync. They kinna got it together at times in the second half but Munford was right there the whole time. I think it will be another great game up at Munford when they play again.
  2. Bartlett-(4-0)There is no doubt the Panthers are the best team in 14-AAA. They are lead by Jaycen Herring who is having great junior season and Brandon Allen who I still can't believe is only a sophomore. The Panthers incerdible defense is hard to score on. Munford(2-2) I think #2 is a toss up between Munford and Bolton. Munford has the better overall and district record but they are similar teams in terms of how they play. Keith Hardaway leads the Cougars and is as good as advertised. He is without a doubt the best player in the district. Bolton(1-2) The Wildcats are( in my mind) a hair better than Munford but the district record does not show it. Bolton earned their 1st district win against Cordova last night.Bolton is an athletic team but they do not always play smart. The Wildcats are lead by Darryl Sumoret who can get it done both on the inside and from beyond the 3-point line. Millington(1-2) The Trojans are having trouble this year but they may not finish last for the 1st time since Dyersburg moved to the Jackson district. They are a scrapy team and have already upset teams like Woodale and Munford. They have one pretty good player but I don;t have my book in front of me and I cannot think of his name. Cordova(1-2)Cordova dropped to 1-3 in the district against Bolton yesterday. The Wolves are down this year after last season's state tourney appearance. They have no true star player but they do have one pretty good player who can score consistantly. I apologize but I forget his name as well. I think it is a toss up between the Wolves and Millington for last place. One of these two teams will not see the region tourney at Oman Arena [Edited by Pantherbert on 1-29-03 5:38P]
  3. Bartlett and Munford hooked up tonight at the Thomas M. Farley, Jr. Memorial Gymnasium. It was a hard fought contest as Bartlett had an off-night( mostly in the 1st half) and Munford really brought their "A" game. Bartlett came out with the victory 66-60. Keith Hardaway had 29 points( I think) and was just incerdible. Bartlett was lead by Jaycen Herring with 21 points and Chase Hardin with 20. Te Panthers were also a tad short-handed with Brandon Allen not playing most of the game due to illness. Bartlett now improves to 18-6 on the year and 4-0 in 14-AAA. Munford drops to 14-6 and 2-2 in the district. [Edited by Pantherbert on 1-28-03 11:34P] [Edited by Pantherbert on 1-29-03 1:00A]
  4. You guys are only 5-10 but that is a heck of a schedule. Ridgeway,Woodale,Bartlett,The Grizzlie Connection(Lausanne),a win over a very good Harding team, and a win over Munford. I can tell you guys work hard having seen you play at Bartlett and I know you guys have the best possible coach to lead your team in the future. I can't tell you how far the Saints will go this year but I think you future is very bright. Coach Harrington is as a great guy as he is a coach. I know at Bartlett we have had a connection w/ Harding because of coach Smith and I'll be pulling for you guys too now!.....but....on nights when you play Harding I'll just have to wish both teams the best. Anyway, keep working hard and good luck with the rest of your season guys! [Edited by Pantherbert on 1-27-03 11:01P] [Edited by Pantherbert on 1-27-03 11:03P]
  5. no disrespect to Dburg but I just don't see it happening. At tourney time anything can happen, yeah. Even so. Plus, Dburg will have to make it to the sub-state or whatever we call it now. Truthfully, I'm not sure if they'll make it out of the region.
  6. You beat me to it Ego,haha. I think you hit it right on the head. White Station has to worry about making out of Memphis first.I think teams like Fairley and East ( and Hamilton....maybe) will have something to say about that. Making at out of their region is flat out HARD.The Spartans can do it but it won't be a walk in the park. In the end, it doesn't matter if you are the best team in the state or not if ya can't make it to the 'Boro....well...as former SNL motivational speaker Matt Foley used to say " That and a nickel will get you a hot cup of jack squat." 7. Great win for Bartlett tonight against the rival Bolton Wildcats. Bolton got the 1st bucket of the game to go up 2-0 and that was the last time they held the lead. Great plays by junior Jaycen Herring( including a lay-up I don't think Jonathan Loe could have made) and sophomore Brandon Allen as well as incredible senior leadership by Chase Hardin,Adam Smith, and Mark Martin. The Panthers improve to 15-6 on the year and 2-0 in district play. The Wildcats of Bolton fall to 10-7 and 0-2 in the district. I also want to commend both teams on a very well played and clean game in what is a very, very bitter rivalry. Great effort tonight guys! Go Panthers!
  8. 85, I hear what you are sayin and I totally agree that who has the gold ball at the end of the year is the most important thing but the best team doesn't always win. Being a Bartlett fan, I can think of two cases. As Gomab said no team is unbeatable. In 1997-98, Bartlett was the best in the state and lost to Cleveland in the semi-final game. Bartlett was the better team but they got beat. In 2001, Bartlett was really good and won the state title, but White Station was still( in my opinion) the better team. They got upset by Fairley in their region tourney. My point is White Station MAY NOT win the title ( although it would shock me) but they are without a doubt the team to beat.
  9. You should beat them. I've been to that tourney the past 2 years with Bartlett and seen most of the teams up there. I'd be surprised(depending on the match-ups) if they gave Harding too much trouble
  10. I'll be there!. As a student at Memphis I want a Tiger victory. However, I can't wait to see Trey play and( as a Bartlett alum) Mr. Loe.
  11. No doubt. The Station is tops. However, the best team doesn't always bring home the gold ball
  12. wow..that is indeed impressive. Congrats to him!!!
  13. I thought we played (overall) pretty well tonight. The fact the Jaycen and Brandon were able to stay out of fould trouble was even better. The team defense is what I loved the most. Every single shot by Houston was contested. Great job tonight Coach!! We in the Skybox Crew are proud of you and Coaches Smith and Deaton. Welcome to Coacht!
  14. Opperman wasn't hating on the Spartans it's just that Millington is...to be nice...just plain bad
  15. Ok 1979Panther, I'll agree this is pretty trivial but tryiing to read a post in all-caps is more than a little annoying. Just look at it this way. If a person continues to post comments the way you have people will not want to bother reading it which would negate any good points that post may contain. See what I mean?
  16. I was at the game broadcasting for Bartlett. Both teams matched up very well against each other. Tre Williams lead the Lions with 18 points. John Bradford also had a great game with 15 points. The Panthers were lead in scoring by Chase Hardin with 21 points,Brandon Allen with 16 points, and Mark Martin with 10 points. Bartlett jumped out early in the 1st but Harding came right back. The score was 35-22 at halftime but,as it has been mentioned, Harding came out of the locker room fired up. The Lions out-scored Bartlett 21-10 in the 3rd makng the score 45-43 going into the 4th. However, the Panthers outscored Harding 18-8 in the 4th including two clutch three point shots by Chase Hardin. I really enjoy the relationship our two schools have and I wish Harding nothing but the very best this season. btw..to anyone interested...You may now listen to Bartlett basketball games on-line at KPTR.COM via the resources of the IHIGH radio network.(hosted by the Bartett Skybox Crew) We hope you tune in sometime. Go Panthers! [Edited by Pantherbert on 11-20-02 11:09A]
  17. Bartlett is good but losing Ben hurts a lot. Jaycen Herring and Brandon Allen are two guys who should have a great year. Bartlett doesn't quite have the 3-point shooters that Harding has yet. They have a few guys that, if they can find their shot consistently, should fill that role. It should be an neat match-up to watch.
  18. JCM has had a very very good year but the fact is that their is nobody in the Memphis area who can challenge them. JCM is good but they are the best team in a VERY weak district(Bartlett only won 3 games and made the post-season) Now, as I said, G'Town is tops in the "Memphis Area". I think they have a very good shot at winning the title but we(for the most part) in this are have no clue what real football is. I wish the Red Devils all the best but I'm not sure they are unstoppable
  19. Bartlett/Bolton game are always heated despite one time getting blown out( Bolton)every year. However, this rivialry is going to be even more inetense in football since Bolton beat Bartlett for the 1st time ever this season(sighs)
  20. I only hope Bartlett can put up those 14 points!!
  21. jeeeez...If you were any more clueless I'd swear you were ESPN's Chad Ford.
  22. thank you gottalovit. Finally somebody with their head on strait. I've avoided this thread becuase, being a huge supporter of the Bartlett program these events have been very painful to watch. But the post by highschoolstats just made me sick.Ben a thug? A disgarce? Good Grief!Speaking as a non-player and die-hard Bartlett follower I can testify to the fact the Ben is NOT a thug. And like TJ said, he is VERY bright. Smarter than a lot of people on this board.( that is not meant as an insult to anyone personally...just making a point)Now,as far as Coach Smith goes, maybe his emotions got the best of him too. I dunno. I wasn't there. I can say this though. I was at a basketball practice today while working on a project for the basketball team and he is very demanding of his players. Some players just can't handle that. I now I couldn't have. Now, there are some things Ben has said that I just don't agree with and some I do but the bottomline is I still have a lot of of love for Big Ben. Not for his basketball skills but for his being so great to me and my folks whenever we had the chance to speak. Ben..if ya read this buddy....I just wan ya to know that despite all these ugly details.....there are still people back at Bartlett who respect and love you. e-mail me sometime at Pantherbert@aol.com I'd love to talk to ya. Have a great day everybody
  23. First let me say that I LOVE Ben. I've a lot of fun getting to know him and his mom over these past 3 years.I also wish Ben the very best in whatever he chooses to do in the future. With that said, let me just echo what Opperman said. Coach Smith is a incredibly demanding coach and some people just can't handle it. Ben just developed an attitude and that was that.I don't think anybody on this board is trying to make Ben out to be a horrible person because he isn't. He just "had enough" but handled it in a way that didn't benefit anyone. I hope I've come across the way I intended. I wanted to defend Ben is a person while recognizing that he did something wrong and that Coach Smith(while very tough) was in the right for his actions.Have a good evening everybody
  24. Actually, Bartlett won that game against Harding at MUS
  25. If White Station makes it to the state tourney, then I'd say they have the best shot of anybody that goes. They should make it unless they get upset like in 2001.Things could get interesting if they have to play Jackson Norhtside or Bartlett in sub-state..lol!
