  1. Truly one of a kind, who spoke with his heart FIRST - which is why he would quickly interject some of his off the wall takes on things and would then turn around 5 minutes later and apologize because he was worried he had offended someone. Willie and his passion for the Oak Ridge Wildcats will be missed. Prayers for his wife and family.

    RIP Willie. RWR

This is as close to an obituary that I could find:

Ahhh, another "back in my day" post.  Sounds like someone is trying to overcompensate where they fall short.

That's what this country needs, more grown men choosing yelling and cussing kids as a career choice.  Maybe if your "great leaders" would have lead you a little more in English class you wouldn't have had to join the Marines and would have gotten to play football at the next level.

They’re about extinct anymore, though. There’s only a few left in the Knoxville area. They used to be great, but management has really faltered the past 15+ years.

Yeah, I was a big fan of LJS back in the day but they dug their own grave with bad management all the way up to the corporate level.

In a related note, I’m sure Oak Ridge will find the right guy and land on their feet. But this whole situation is odd, if CSC is going to be allowed to continue to teach then obviously nothing illegal or “immoral” occurred and that of course points back to what many of y’all have said that either parents and or administration just didn’t like him or his style of coaching. I personally don’t know him but I do know folks in Cleveland did not like him as a person or as a coach but what he did this past season at OR especially with all the injuries they had was impressive and will be a hard act to follow.

  4. Congrats to the Wildcats, good luck going forward. Should be a good game next week and I believe you guys will take the Cherokees.  RWR!!

Just a tough year for the Eagles with youth and injuries but it’s time to reset and put in the off-season work in the weight room. There is a lot of pieces to the puzzle coming back next year so hopefully everything will fall into place next season  and the Eagles can get back on track.

  5. Congrats to Anderson County on a good win. I agree with Mavericksinflight in that being able to overcome adversity is a big part of becoming a championship team. Anderson had a meltdown in the 3rd quarter but was able pull it together down the stretch. Good luck Mavs, pulling for you guys to make to Chattanooga in December.

Very entertaining game tonight. Proud of the Eagles for showing a lot of fight and coming out ready to play. Faced a really good team tonight and made the most of the opportunities put before you. Big improvement on defense. No moral victories - put this one behind you and get ready for the BIG region game coming up next week. Build on the improvements and positives from tonight and go out next week and take it to the OWLS!

    GO EAGLES!!!

RCfan good luck the rest of the way. The Eagles will just get stronger and stronger as the year goes on. Who knows? Maybe these two meet again and Rhea repays McMinn

Yeah, who knows. I think the Eagles will improve but so will the Cherokees. It’s a big deal when a team can keep it’s composure and play that well when one of your best players goes down. McMinn proved they are not just a one man show this year.

Surprising score here. Don’t hang your heads, RC, a lot of football to be played! Hang in there, Golden Eagles.

Yes that’s correct SS. The Eagles got time to get it together and have a good year. The future is bright for sure but we got to head up your way next week and try to figure out some way to slow down your neighbor Anderson County. Martinez and the Maverick’s have been lighting up the scoreboard on some pretty good teams.

Congrats on the win Friday, I know it’s really a one sided series but I know the Wildcats love beating the Dragons especially when Clinton has a pretty good team.

In all honesty Rhea County is a class act when it comes to all things football. To be quite honest I as a McMinn fan was shocked that not only we pulled out the win but especially in the way we did. And ESPECIALLY with J Miller getting hurt and going out early in the game. I didn’t think we had a plan B if that happened especially against a team like Rhea. My comment was wrong saying cocky. One said Rhea in a blowout. We have a good defense so we should be able to keep games close. Another brings up officiating when it seems like we lead the state in penalties. It’s all good tho. Love HS football it’s the last bastion of amatuer football really. Rhea fans and football program are quality all the way around. Always strong. I apologize for grouping a couple of comments I didn’t agree with to everyone.

It’s all good, McMinn was ready to play and they played a game that would get any Cherokee fan excited!
Going into the game I was concerned the Cherokee defense was going to cause our young line a lot of problems but then when Miller went down, I thought that was going to be really bad for y’all but QB Hester played really well and ran the offense very effectively. It may be because Rhea is young and inexperienced but I think this may be the most physical McMinn team I have seen in a while, it definitely made a difference in this game.

I think the Eagle offense will come around because turnovers and penalties can be fixed and inexperience fixes itself but Rhea has some serious issues on defense that may or may not get fixed. Things don’t get any easier next week going to Anderson County.

GO CHETOKEES!!!! 43-14!!!! Not even close. AND without Jaden Miller!!! For all the obnoxious Rhea fans and there are a lot, how does your cocky “we are the best” crow pie taste

Congrats Cherokees on the win and a likely first round home playoff game.

BrushCreek, Who on here has said anything cocky or been obnoxious to you??

Yeah during the Alcoa game we were down to wingbacks 4,5,and 6 on the depth chart. Even though I thought Ace had a good varsity debut.

The defense is really going to have to play good this game to contain Miller like last year

Yes, Ace played great and it’s exciting to see how deep this backfield is.

For some reason, don't ask why LOL I think the Eagles win this game pretty easily.    GO EAGLES!!

I hope so but from what I have read McMinn has a pretty solid defense and I know Jayden Miller is dangerous if he gets going.
This is a big region game and last I heard Rhea is still a little banged up so the young Eagles better be ready to play.

Man don’t start that crap. No worse officiating anywhere than Rhea Co. I expect Rhea to win. McMinn has too many things to work on. Most notably is our offense. I don’t like our play calling or our results from our play calling. Fell like Rhea has many more options and weapons to win this game unfortunately for us. Hopefully we can get better as the year goes on

Yeah, I think RheaCo is somewhat joking with the Ref comment because of all the crying BOTH schools get from visiting teams about bad calls. He knows and I’m sure you do too that it’s the same officiating group that does both Rhea and McMinn Co home games.
Has there been bad calls? Yes

Has it went on for years? Yes

Is it good ole boy home cooking? Probably not.

I have seen a lot of these games over the years and I think what we have seen - in some cases - is more a case of incompetence than dishonesty or “home cooking”. That’s not to say all Athens association officials are incompetent but over the years I have seen this bunch make some strange calls and even get into arguments with each over calls made during the game. That being said, let me say this… being a high school official is not an easy job and last time I checked there were several openings, So unless it’s really blatant, I try to give these guys the benefit of doubt and besides no crew anywhere is perfect. giphy.gif?cid=5e21488619b62d0f0c706dfbfb

Yes, sir. That’s the year Jefferson finally broke through and won it.

That was a really good Jefferson County team especially on defense with Todd Collins. They came in and beat the Eagles that year 20-17 in a old fashion hard hitting slobber knocker. It was a great game.

I was also at that McMinn vs Jefferson Co playoff game thinking the Kees may have had a shot to get em but by then Jefferson was firing on all cylinders and nobody could stop them.

  14. Congrats to Alcoa on the win and a successful start to the Nix era of Alcoa football. You guys look great and will only get better as the season progresses. Talked to some Alcoa fans and they were super classy and very excited about Nix and the direction of Alcoa football. Eli Owens is a stud and I hope we see him running thru the T in a couple of years.

Proud of these young Eagles for not quitting when this game got out of hand pretty quickly. Got to fix some big time special teams issues but the backs ran hard and the young O-line and defense will get better with experience. Got next week off and hopefully Hyatt is OK and they can get him, Davis and Odell back on the field soon. Pemberton has always been pretty good at taking a game like this and making good adjustments.
On to Athens in 2 weeks to play McMinn for a big Region 4 showdown.

    GO EAGLES!

  15. Thanks, guys. Rhea has to go down to Red Bank in a few weeks and I was surprised to see that score last night.
Gatewood is a great coach and I knew Red Bank wouldn’t miss a beat when they hired him but I expected this game to be close with you guys getting the win.

Hang in there and hopefully Wheeler can pull it all together and get Cleveland back on track.  Good luck to the Blue Raiders rest of the way this season.

This one will probably get ugly in a hurry.  From what I have heard from the scrimmages that Rhea has played, our lines are very young and have played like it.  We have seasoned skill position players, but their success rides on the line.  I'm sure Alcoa is as strong as ever...  Tell me about them, with the new coach.

ADS1, I think you are right. I hate to say it but it may get ugly quick. The O-line is young and inexperienced going against one of the best defensive coaches in East Tennessee and the Eagle defense is also young and inexperienced all that with all of Alcoa’s horses could spell big trouble for Rhea.
Martin would have to have a BIG night for the Eagles to even stay in this one. I really hope I am wrong….. Anyway GO EAGLES!!!
