1. It's going to be yet another war. In reference to the "you ought to never lose to a 2A team" slant, growing up we never heard that one because I was 16 the first time I ever saw MHS lose to Alcoa. Alcoa has had some very good teams and I am still friends with a lot of them, but the vast majority of the games have been very tight because the players have typically been evenly matched. The size of the school has little to do with the size and speed of the players.

  2. Their guys looked big, fast, and well disciplined.  I thought that maybe the hype about THS was true.  But after the first drive, I knew it was all hype.

I was watching their special teams warm up and it was immediately evident that they couldn't punt the ball more than 35 yards without a roll and kicking a field goal would be out of the question. THS does have some good players and they almost hurt us in the 2nd quarter with the misdirection trap and draw; however, we corrected quickly.

  3. I going with Melrose to win this game. Yeah Maryville is good but I like to pull for the underdog according to every Maryville fan here. Yeah im from East Tenn but some Maryville fans are too cocky and it gets annoying. Maryville is good but not invinsible.

it tends to happen when you've lost less than what? 3 games in 4 or 5 years? MHS is the Larry Hagman of Tn football teams and that is just fine. There is only one more spot on the little white board next to the scoreboard and hopefully we will be ordering a new one after this season thumb Just keep in mind that it isn't bragging if you back it up.

Seriously, Melrose could give us a run for our money due to the type of offense they run (we have more problems with wide open attacks).

  4. MaryvilleRebels' date='Nov 26 2004 - 11:07 PM']You decided in warm-ups that THS would win?  What exactly about warm-ups is a giveaway to a win?

I thought exactly the opposite after watching pregame. I was worried coming in because I knew zero about THS, but watching the pregame made me feel much better.

  5. now don't forget about Cade's big 50 yard run tonight B) Seriously, Cade is a great pure passer. He can feel the rush, knows where his receivers are and doesn't force a lot of mistakes. His biggest asset outside of experience is he is a thinking QB.

  6. Maryville showed some real guts in this game.  They had two sophomores playing RB and they were looking defeat in the eyes on that last drive.  Most teams would have crumbled under the pressure.

I agree, but the last couple of seasons and tonight especially, when we got the ball back with 79 yards to go for the win....I just had that feeling that everything was going to be OK.

  7. They usually run the Wing T. All the runningbacks are good, it just depends. All of the players are a threat. The ones you think have no talent show you up at some point. I hope Maryville likes to pass the ball.

Maryville has a balanced attack for the most part. Like tonight, 184 rushing and 180 passing. We basically take what the defense gives us and then exploit the living crap out of it.

  8. Someone told me Knox Central was ahead 24-14 at one point. Any thoughts on that? ;)

    825442016

Maryville and Central traded punches all night. Maryville was down 24-21 with @ 3.5 minutes left in the game and then drove 79 yards for the go ahead score (28-21). There were only @ 44 seconds left in the game and Central got the ball back deep in their own territory. On the second play, Maryville's Stephen Childs int'ed a Zach Helton pass and returned it to ice the game. It was a very good game.

I'll admit that I am kind of ignorant when it comes to Tennessee High --> what type of offense and defense do you guys play? Who should we watch? Have fun coming down and I'll def see you there. Roll Red Roll!!!

  9. Ah, I nearly forgot. What's the best feature of CoachT Plus? I know someone out there knows the answer...

That's an easy one......$12 is well worth escaping the trash talking

  10. I have no idea how Vanderbilt can turn around their football program except for lowering academic standards for athletes. They need a coach who is committed to spending 10+ years shaping a brand new program. Right now I am not convinced at all that Bobby Johnson is that man. Thought?

Unfortunately for Vandy being set up the way it is, we will most likely never see a 10 year coach at that school. The entire set up puts coaches there in a very bad situation. Back during the preseason I had predicted that the Dores were going to come out the gate flat, but just never figured they would be that flat.

  11. I don't know for sure but I believe Ryan Tallent will play next week. Byner will be out.

Remember the lineup when we scrimmaged Oak Ridge back during the summer? Looks like it might be coming true. Coach Q will have them ready though. Thanks for the update; I hate this shift because I never get to make it to any of the games anymore.

  12. As much as I think George Quarles is a great coach. Ralph Nelson has to be the coach of the year. Sullivan East has always been a 2-8 or 1-9 team. Ralph Nelson has turned that program around. A good coach makes a difference. I bet after this season there will be more kids out for football at Sullivan East. Success breeds success.

Hey RR: is this the same Ralph Nelson that played at Rule High School in the mid-80's?

  13. Hard to believe a team would fire a coach for losing a few games.  If he were at bearden everyone would just say he had no tallent wasnt his fault.

    825400422

A few games? He was 12-6 at home and our 'good years' were 8-5. We'll be lucky to win more than 2 games the rest of this season.
