  1. This hire has me thinking. I know coach Anderson very well and what has made him a very coach is not just his knowledge of football, but his ability to coach in metro. I think there are intangibles more important than X's and O's. It is going to be interesting who gets this job and their ability to coach in metro. I am not sure every applicant has the qualities needed. I am sure they all know enough football .
  2. A top applicant withdraws his name from consideration.
  3. I am hearing that new coach will be named middle of next week.
  4. I believe all the interviews are over. Decision time. It will be interesting.
  5. Should be about time for interviews to start. This job has many interested. Wonder if someone knows they have the job? Any one think Coach Anderson should be consulted about who his replacement should be?
  6. metro has almost never been known for fast action. hope they make the best hire for Overton.
  7. 2 former metro head coaches, both warriors, both assistants at Stratford at same time.
  8. I think everyone who has or will apply sees this as a school that has been most consistent winning games. It is in a good part of Nashville and gets very little,if any, bad press. Just appears to be one of the best schools in metro. I think Antioch,Cane Ridge, and possibly McGavock are next. I think size of schools, athletes in building, and the location they are located.
  9. I know just about everyone that has or will apply. I like them all and they all have good qualities. I think this will be an interesting hire with so much attractive about Overton.
  10. The only way any team can have real success is to have three things. One you mention, hard working kids, two is a supportive administration, and third is parents who support administration and coaching staff and let them do their job.
  11. Whoever new coach is has big shoes to fill. Any hint who you are pulling for? You think having 3 coaches in the building wanting the job creates any thoughts? Will all want to stay if outsider gets job. Will the other 2 coach if one gets job? Does new coach know that often you have to work with coaches already on staff?
  12. Truth is nobody knows what is going on. I am certain of that.
  13. I am sure It crossed both of their minds that Terry was close to retiring so why not align myself in the same school. I get a chance to work with a good coach in a good school and when he gets out out maybe I can take his place. I do not know if either were told and I highly doubt they were that they would be next coach. metro does not work that way. Principals in metro never show their hand, but I still think they have an idea who they want.
  14. I don't know your guy well Run (Morrison) but I would lump that in the same category as Campbell, seems like a long dog and pony show to go through for an in house guy. I think Coach Morrison could have the job if he wanted it,but he has made it clear he does not. The dog and pony show must go in in metro, just another SSDD,5 down 5 across metro thing. I think the day Coach Anderson stepped down Coach Morrison could have had the job,but metro would still go through the procedure. He is what most long time Overton supporters still want, someone who understands and will continue Overton traditions. Not that someone else can't do a good job.
  15. Run I don't think you can go wrong with either one but Campbell is already in the building and the kids are asking for him to be the coach they love him. And I agree with you on handling it, I think you call him and offer it to him of he except then the interview process doesn't matter I am not sure the interviews matter very much in most hires. I would think a few hires do when the admin has no idea who they want. If I were hiring a coach I would seek who I wanted and not rely on applications.
  16. So you would hire either of these 2 guys? Who is your first choice? Would you call him and ask him or would he have to apply? Would the interview process matter or would one of these guys know he has the job? I know a coach in metro who got hired during lunch after school during exams week at a restaurant .
  17. I agree. Some metro coaches try to do the things necessary to help players get better. Most players just do not get it. They all want to play when season starts but fail to work to get better in the off season. One coach in metro had less than 20 players stay for off season weight and speed workouts just this past week. It is truly an up hill battle.
  18. WIP, would you agree that the admin should seek who they want and not just take applicants? Also do you agree that the coach they want will already know he has the job and interviews are a formality? In my personal experiences that has been true and in other jobs in and out of metro this has been true.
  19. If it was me I would call who I wanted and tell them I want them to be my new coach. It has happened before and should now. State laws or metro policies require interviews and application deadline. Me personally, I would walk down the hall at Overton and convince Mike Morrison to be the new football coach. I would then get him the help he needs to continue to keep the baseball program where it is and let him be the head man of both.
  20. The interviews will be be a formality and the new coach will already be known by the powers that be. Most jobs are that way and should be.. An interview 20-30 minutes long should not or can not determine who is the best coach for the job. I believe coaches have been talked to and I personally believe that is how it should be to get the best coach. The main man who is making the decision knows who he wants and one of the coaches interviewing will know the interview is just a process.
