I have been saying for years that MNPS needed to change some of the zones. While it would be controversial my suggestion would be to do the following:
1. Close Hillsboro & Hillwood and take the cash from both properties ( I have been told that the Hillwood site would bring around 100 million and Hillsboro may bring 300 million)
2. Build a new Bellevue High School (Everyone living on the Green Hills Mall side of Green Hills, Belle Meade, Hillwood, West Meade, etc... would attend Bellevue High School)
3. Students living on the current Hillsboro High School side of the road would attend John Overton and the zone would extend to McMurray Middle School side of Nolensville Road. Everything on the other side of Nolensville Road would be zoned for Glencliff. It would basically be the old John Overton school zone with the exception it would go all the way to Hillsboro Road. John Overton would probably needed to have space added but that would be very doable.
I have heard these also.

Yea metro, spend millions on upgrades at Glencliff and then allow them to drop football. Genius...
A zone change is needed for Glencliff and possibly others. I do not see football being eliminated at any metro school. There are some small enrollment schools that have been mentioned closing and becoming used as middle schools.

I recently heard that metro is considering doing away with football in some schools and allowing players to play at other schools.

Runtheball you are correct. But in order to become better metro needs to first realize the problems and that is not going to happen anytime soon.
I know what is being said. A coach can only coach the kids and not worry about things he can't control. I do not know of any coach in metro that does not have the things needed to coach. Game is still about coaching the kids right and running a scheme they can run. Can't be concerned about the what ifs.

Antioch - Overton game ended with 10 minutes to go in 4th quarter. Antioch walked off the field and said they did not want to finish.
I hate that this happened.

Both great young men and a good program, i too hope this gets worked out by Friday so Max can play his last game for Franklin.
I do not see that happening. Looks like SSDD and 5 Down 5 Across has made its way out of metro and headed south on I-65.

I have heard that Webb has been a problem for years within the team. This is outrageous that this has happened
If you are saying Webb is the problem then what you are hearing is wrong. The only thing outrageous is any alleged involvement by another coach. If any involvement by another coach is true then either follow rules of coach Webb or follow advice of outsider. Pretty simple to me.

I agree that taken at face value the playoffs are about more money for the TSSAA. However, when you dig deeper you may find that fewer divisions (truly no more than 4 or 5) and the state championships back in Nashville where you would have a much larger walk up crowd would make more money. When a team with a sub .500 record can qualify for the playoffs and the championship games are at TTU it's really not that special for the players, fans and coaches. This is nothing more than the TSSAA having a money grab on the backs of student athletes.
But look at the gate money they get (50%) at all the games leading up to state championships. And most early rounds are rival ( and a revenge game) games with teams close to each to cut down on travel costs and encourages large crowds. I do agree that Vanderbilt was the best place.

Folks, all this talk about a good team taking a loss in the first round of the playoffs is crazy and just plain stupid. You now have six (6) public school divisions and three (3) private school divisions. Winning a state championship is much like purchasing a mail order bride from Russia, most anyone can do it as it's not that difficult. Now if you want to place everyone back together and return to three or four divisions with only the district champions going to the playoffs I could see how a good team may take a loss in the first round of the playoffs. As it is the playoffs are a joke just like the regular season schedule of some teams! It appears as if very few head coaches want to test themselves against the very best competition to see how good they actually may be on a given Friday evening.
It's all about the money.

Yes, it is my opinion. I have worked with him and I was impressed with his abilities. Time will tell . Records, stats, and any other physical evidence you are seeking doesn't always reflect any coach's ability. Some of the best coaches in the state will not always have great measurables but are good coaches. In my years of experience The teams that seem too always win have the best players consistently in the program. Most HS programs have up and down years as seen by different state champions yearly. My wish is that anyone a fan get on board and be supportive of the team. Bottom line is this “Players make plays, not coaches.”

If you're a good boy maybe plussizedave can copy and paste some records for you. See how you like them facts
I think fb247 was just letting you know that I (runtheball) was never at Glencliff or Independence. As for new OC at Morristown West he is an excellent coach as are many in high school football in Tennessee. He will do a good job. I am sure his opinion is based on the success that he has had.

Congrats Coach Thigpen.
Coach will do a good job. Hope he can hire some good help.

Good coaches and good players win championships. Bad coaches with good players get beat in the close games.
I have seen that also. I have seen bad coaches with good players win over very good coaches with less talent also.
-
That's astronomical. Terry Hemontolor was a state championship winning defensive coordinator at Hillsboro in the 00s.
good coaches win with good players. Bad coaches win with good players. Never seen any coach, good or bad, win without good players.

Admin change was in 2007
2007 9-3 Campbell
2008 8-3 Campbell
2009 8-3 Campbell
2010-2016 8-62 Hemontolor, Darnell, Murray. McPhail
hate to see HL having tough times. Actually hate to see any metro school having tough times.

Glencliff should have a good year now that runtheball is gone. At least that's how it worked out for Independence
You got the wrong guy. I do hope glencliff has a good year and believe they can win some games this fall.
-
Hope new coach is named soon.
-
I can tell you that I want a hit of whatever blunt you have in your possession.
Morristown West has one of the best offensive coordinators in the state. It takes all of the above to win a state championship, support from fans and admin, players, good coaching staff, and some luck along the way.

Just shows what you know
I only know you do not know about this situation.

Feel for the kids.. Hopefully there is more than meets the eye then he realized just how bad Glencliff was. Surely Coach had to know what he was getting himself into before he took the job.
Had nothing to do with Glencliff, being good or bad. He knew what he was facing and was excited to get it going. I think he made a decision we all would have made. I know I would ,with regrets for the players though. But knowing kids ,they will be fine.
-
I guess spring practice didn't go so well huh...
Had nothing to do with spring. In fact I went by twice and watched practice. Scott really thought Glencliff could win 4-5 games. Had nothing to do with Glencliff. It was a decision based on what we all would have done.
-
Not so stupid now huh
no,you are still stupid

Guess you are a former bear like I am. How many years will it take? What baby steps does he need to take? I do know a good coaching staff is huge.I do too. Baby steps with that program. He has to be allowed more time than the last 2 regimes. I want to see this old program compete again. Good luck Coach Head
