Jefferson took a hit losing Huff,Kyle and Miller
Cherokee lost Price and Ryans
Seymour lost Brown and a couple more
West lost Smith and Wild
Not sure about the rest....I know Sevierville still has Pickle.
Still alot of quality players left! It should be interesting (as always)
Price is a Senior at Cherokee. I can see why you think she graduated, feels like a 8th year senior with her and Ashlee playing consecutive four year careers.
Cocke County lost about 35 ppg game scoring off of their 42 ppg average with Sprouse and Lane graduating.

This may be a moot point. East still must travel down to Sevierville on Friday to play the Smokey Bears and I just don't see the 'Canes coming away with a win down there. A loss would probably sink their right to a home game since they are already a 4th seed in Quad 1 this week.
If both West and East are able to play their 1st round games at home, though, would the TSSAA allow one to play on Friday and the other play on Saturday?
BTW, Quad 1 just got significantly tougher with the addition of Powell and Knox West.
If Cocke County and Tennessee High win this week, I'd assume Quad 1 would go back to last week's teams
(Morristown West, South-Doyle, Morristown East, Cherokee, Cocke County, TN High, Sullivan South and Daniel Boone).
TN High should be in, as they are 4-5 playing Volunteer this week. Cocke County would be more questionable.
The question is, would one of the two moving back into the playoff picture move Powell or Knox West? I'd venture Powell would be the first team shifted to Q2.

Last night's win by Seymour should seal the pools for the tournament
Pool 1 - At Seymour
#1 Seymour (14-0)
#8 Cherokee (1-13)
#4/#5 - Morristown West (7-6) & South Doyle (6-7)
Winner of Tuesday's game between the two is the four seed.
Same two teams will meet again Friday in tourney opener regardless.
Pool 2 - At Jefferson County
#2 Jefferson County (10-3)
#7 Cocke County (3-11)
#3 Sevier County (8-5)
#6 Morristown East (5-9)

The bracket is a double-elimination tournament, with two pools.
Here is the bracket, as voted on by coaches before the season.

I would assume a coin-flip would be in order between Sevier and West on Tuesday if West beats Seymour and Jeff beats Sevier tomorrow.

Not trying to start a debate about throwing game or anything, just throwing something out there had has surely entered the head of at least somebody out there. Any other thoughts on this or is it something I really shouldn't have sad in the first place?
Yes, the regional brackets are set up like this:
D2 #1 vs D1 #4
D1 #2 vs D2 #3
D1 #1 vs D2 #4
D2 #2 vs D1 #3

Someone finally addressed the elephant in the room... and I think it's definitely been a thought of several coaching staffs - some of who are still playing and some who are at home.
While Herm Edwards says you play to win the game; winning a consolation game isn't the ultimate goal...prolonging your season as long as possible is.
While it may call into play integrity, I say blame the system - not the situation or those involved. They are merely following the set-up of the system and playing to it.
Now if East would've upset West on Friday; that brings into play an even more interesting question.... The loser of the championship game would've been in a likely better position than the winner.

Yessir, Raiderray, that is correct. Sevier has pulled off what is easily the biggest shocker of the post season thus far. Congratulations to Stacy Marine's Bearettes.
I don't see why this is such a shocker...this is a Buda-less Lady Red team....they are basically a one-horse team right now and extremely vulnerable to an effective defense. Greeneville man-handled them without her. Will they have her back for the tourney?
Definitely not a shocker.
And that was their tourney. They had hoped maybe to get her back next week. But there won't be a next week for them.
Which is a sad story for her... She had worked extremely hard to try to come back.

One of the top seeds will lose!! It has been too close all year!!! I just hope its not our Bears vs county rival Seymour.. Cocke County has the easiest draw but you never know what Cocke County team will show up.
Predictions: Cocke county vs Morristown East
Sevier vs Mo West (Upset!!)
Sevier vs Mo East in Finals...
Bears WiN!! a little bias...hahahaa
Sevier and Morristown East would meet in the semifinals.
-
Boys #1 and #2 may have put themselves into a corner with these brackets too.
If the tournament gets pushed back a day due to winter weather, I can imagine that Saturday would turn into semifinal day with four semifinals... a day after the boys #1 and #2 seeds play on Friday night.

I would have thought that as a reward for being the number 1 and 2 seeds, that they would play Monday, and have the 4 days of rest for Friday's game. I understand that, in theory, they have the easier games, and thus should not be as stressed as the the 3-6 seeds, but I still think there should be some reward for being the 1 and 2 seeds.
Absolutely....
In previous years, the top two seeds have gotten rewarded by a bye - which was an automatic bid to the region tournament.
This year, with an extended conference schedule that comprises nearly 60 percent (14 of 24 games allowed by the TSSAA), the reward is playing on one days rest if you make the semifinals, which is the most important game of the year since the winners receive a home region game.
Some reward there.... Really, with the nearly two-third regular season schedule comprising of conference games, I think they should've went with the staggered bracket that puts the one and twos in the semifinals. Otherwise you're saying the regular season is meaningless.
The real loser may be Jefferson County. They will get a steadily improving Cherokee team that played them within 5 one meeting this year and lost by five at Seymour on Saturday. If they get by them, they will then get either Cocke County or Sevier, who both beat them this year, on three days rest.
-
The scoreboard makes me think he got their attention for Cocke County.
They did it without Taylor Hall for the most part. Led by 21 at the break. Hall played 7 minutes in the first half with foul trouble. Goins played 8 minutes as a decoy (0 points, 0 shots). Wild had 12 points, all from three-point range.
Fanney really played well too.
-
Cocke County now has 4 losses - 2 games left (Jeff and Seymour)
Jeff has 5 losses - 1 game left (Cocke)
Seymour has 5 losses - 2 game left. (Cherokee and Coicke)
Jeff could have pushed Seymour to 4th tonight, but played poorly, and la scrappy Seymour team won by dominating the 2nd half.
Assuming Seymour beats Cherokee:
A Jeff win Thursday vs Cocke assures them of no worse than 3rd.
Cocke County sweeps next week, they are teh 2nd seed, and Seymour and Jeff finish tied for 3rd, and who knows what the tie breaker is? Coin flip becasue they split the 2 games?
If Cocke County loses both, they fall to 4th, and Jeff and Seymour tie for 2nd.
Obviously, 2nd and third are critical seeds, to keep you from playing West until the final, and thus giving you a regional home first game. Fall to 4th seed, get West in the semi, and you are then on the road for your opening regional game. Plus, as the 4th seed, you get Sevier County, who has beaten Jeff and Seymour already.
Add into this that Seymour will be playing its 4th game of the week by Saturday, and you got to favor Cocke County to finish 2nd.
If Jeff doesn't show any more heart Thursday night than they did tonight, they are in a world of hurt.
The 5 seed will be Morristown East. They are finished at 7-7. Sevier is 6-7 with a game left vs. West.
The #4 seed will be a killer. East on their home floor and if you win, then West.

Tonight's Seymour @ Cocke County games have been postponed.
Likely make-up date is Feb. 9th taking place of non-conference games for both schools.

Morristown West @ Cocke County - Postponed until Thursday, January 28th.
TSSAA may want to reconsider postponing basketball season until July 1st.

Cocke County @ Gatlinburg-Pittman has been postponed. As has Science Hill at Jefferson County. No makeup dates have been given.
Cocke County was never scheduled to play Gatlinburg-Pittman this year. Can't postpone a game that wasn't scheduled.
