Look at Ron Crawford Very little talent in Brentwood, but he's in the running every year. Some wish Tom would have waited a lil longer on Ron to return that call. Who beter than the student who beat his teacher. As for Rankin leaving he was board and tired of the warrior greed. He cleaned his office out every year if he didn't win it all and put his name in hats for jobs becaues he felt if he didnt win it he could or should be fired.....He went from playing in the hardest region in the state then 4 play off games to a garenteed champion ship

Just wondering if one of the old Rankin assistants had gotten the head job and still lost....what would be said?

I would like to say so. Me and they guy's call Oakland the Oakland Warriors. You can change the uniforms adminstration wat ever you want but you cant change a winner. don't get me wrong Oakland is a good football program always has been. they fell off for a minute here and there due to coaching. All there missing is wyant, britton, and rankin....lol is there a coach on there staff that hasn't been at riverdale.

It wasnt a smart move to come in behinde rankin all these coaches new that, but im bout positive one of them will be the next hc...regardless if rankin was there or not that 07' team was expected to win state. wat coach wants that 1st year pressure. as soon as they made the hire i thought oakland would win it and i new sadly to say they would beat riverdal. If you can find a riverdale team that has lost to a wing t. i want a time date score and verifcation from the tssaa........lol. so why would mac and his staff lose to one. they probaly didn't even practice for riverdale that week. I no we never practiced for a wing t. we consintrated on wat we wanted to do and wat we were going to make them do. once again the wing t is simple if your players are coached up and unselfish. Coach Mac could have came in to oakland and went 7-5 and every one would have been content. didn't feel like thanksgiving not going to a 4th round game this year.

So no 2001 Riverdale. There were some studs on that team they only had the best running back and receiver in riverdale history with a great pocket passing QB. With like a million role players that would have been stand outs any where else. Wasn'yt there like ten all- staters on that team and a couple of all-americans. There were players that made all-state in positions they didnt play I think Edrell Smith made it as a safty and he played out side backer.....lol he never roled to safty in a 2 high look

It takes more than an just O-Line to be in the ranks of the teams that are being discussed here.

Those stellar teams are rare. You seem to think R'Dale has the talent to have them every year. Thats silly. They don't. They never have. They never will. There are lots of other football teams around the state striving for their own rare and unparalled year. Guess what, they have their glory years too. And when they have theirs, R'Dale wont be having one. Thats the way it goes. You can't win them all, even R'Dale.

I don't agree you can win them all, but it takes a year around program with commitment a staff that demands it a staff that has little or no family life. Steve brittion Jr once told me i'v seen my father mroe in the past three years than i have in the last six and thats only becaues he was a junior and he played for his father. as soon as you start thinking you cant win them all you want.

Just an observation that I hope doesnt side track this thread...

 

As we are comparing these teams, all amazingly successful, only the talent of the players is being discussed. And yet when the teams in the interim "non amazing" years are discussed on other threads, its the coaches fault when they are not having fantastic years.

 

When a team wins, its because of the talent. When a team loses, its the coachs fault. We all know a coach cant win without talent. And yet some want to blame the coach when the talent really just isnt there, and then want to make ridiculous claims that the talent indeed is there.

 

Even bad coaches win with talent, and yet they are thought of as good coaches. Some of the best coaches are never recognized because they never get to coach a team so loaded as the teams we are discussing on this thread.

 

I know, I know, good coaches get the talent to play, blah, blah...None of that matters when talking about teams of the level we are talking about. Guys that think the talent is walking the halls every year and it only takes the right coach to get it to come out and play really have no idea what superior talent really looks like and how special it really is to have teams like the ones in this discussion. There is no way, ever, in any school, that year in and year out, this level of talent is in the building...and yet some foolishly think there is. And to think so only cheapens the achievement of those teams that have such amazing seasons as these.

There were plenty of years Rankin was down on talent.....98' young team lost star running for several weeks 12-1 00' offensive seinor skill players laid an egg and never showed up 13-2. 02' turned to a 60 to 40 pass run team after king ralph left the thrown to get the ball to a stand out receiver. He died or something in Lincoln Co. 3rd game of the year 13-2. You can find talent with in your team its there. In 02' dave thomas was 2nd team corner back up Qb. the running backs were sometiming so rankin move dave to running back and it save the season.

Central 1970.......RD and Oak have had some very good teams...but Central is the best I've seen.

Word is Central now a middle school will be turning into a magnent high school, allowing students in the near by community and county open addmission to education. Is there any truth to this

Agreed. That entire team made it look like the other teams were a bunch of little kids playing them.

I heard that 70's Central team was great. 10 shut outs is crazy. 2004 put up good #'s i think the best did they even have a close game, but guys off that team say 94' 97' 00' 01 Riverdale. I also feel the 98' Oakland team was very good, and uder rated. I saw teams like 94' 97' R'dale and 98' Oak and tryed to be them on saturday playing youth ball for the mustanges......lol

We are on to the tactics at Oakland. Everyone knows how Rankin did it, so you will be "watched" in all things. And leave Jeremiah alone. Why aren't you screaming about the "recruiting" going on over there, 2gutless? You sure screamed at Riverdale over the years.

 

You people at Oakland need to be giving your old defensive coordinator a ring instead of the "get back" coaches. He made it easy for McNapoleon to come in and do well.

Its hard to repeat. I played in 3 straight state championships, we had the best of coaching an more talent than any one in the state stuff happens like we physicaly abused an steped over Brentwood in 2 a days. With 4 stand out players out hurt enjoying the show from the side line. Crawford just came to work that day no preaperation just a lil full contact. yeah a few mounths later he went home with the gold ball. 1 night it was suppose to b light rain slight chance of sleat.......lol yeah that was the weather in pregame warm ups. after we came out there was 2'inchs of snow its hard to play on turf in nike turf speed shoes. Gearld Riggs was making cuts like it was a hot summer night in regular rubber studded cleats. what im saying is its hard espeacialy when you have a target on your back like Oakland they have always had a state program.There want be teams playing to when a play off spot or state championship there game against oakland will be there season. You want to see a celebration go to all the oakland games maybe not this year but when they loss it will be one. Smryna snuck up on people for 2 years no 1 took them for real.

Rankin also practiced for mistakes alot also. A prime example was how the team went into automatic mode on an extra point attempt if the ball was fumbled in any way. One word was yelled by the holder and the TEAM went into their automatic play that was practiced EVERYDAY! This caused folks to accuse R'dale of running up the score in some games. Prime example was Siegels first home game as R'dale fumbled the snap twice and went into their two point play and scored both times. Like I said then, R'dale was NOT deliberately trying to run the score up, it was just Siegel could NOT stop anything R'dale ran then.

 

Folks have called R'dale a machine, and in some ways it was. Thing is can they become a machine again? I sincerely hope so.

Rankin didnt get outcoached very often... I never heard any rumblings about his coaching either other than this parent wants his kid to play QB or FB and then they either transfered or play what they was told to play...

I did think that we got outcoached AND outplayed in his last game though OR did a great job preparing for us and their players did everything right. Still not sure why we faked a feild goal on the first drive...sometimes its just one of those game and its a night that it wasnt meant to be and that was the OR night. IF they had played the same way the following saturday instead of thinking they had won state they would have beaten Ravenwood by 25-30.

Rankin threw a flea flicker on his own 1/2 yard line in chatt 1 year. in a big game he feels safe with fakes an trick plays. i once heard him say it's not a trick play if we rep it like toss sweep. i thank he's wright. his trick plays and fakes work a good percentage of the time...

If Riverdale beats Oakland this year then everyone leaves Coach A alone. Also wasnt Rankin more closely related to Fulmer. Before people think I am insulting Rankin Fulmer was a great football coach regardless of his critics. Also honestly I dont think the wing T is that much different from any other offense. Although Coach A does not throw the ball alot its still football. They block and tackle as Vince Lombardi said. Most offenses try to do the following: stretch a defense vertically, horizontally, or run right over you. Obviously a vareity of ways exist to help this occur. Also option football is probably the hardest to stop. Another question I have is can anyone ever replace Coach Rankin and accomplish the things he did. Also what was his record like in the first four years he took over. I dont have a dog in the fight I just hate to see everyone so unhappy.

Rankin took over in 90' he went 4-6 that year with a couple of close loses including oakland. the next 4 year he built a power house that im sad to say might be gone. 91' 10-1 92' 12-1 93' 13-2 94' 15-0. it's just going to get worst for coach A. they questioned an complained when rankin lost which was near never. they were saying he got out coached. if play side stands there ground and back side fallows the puller or pullers that criss cross mess don't mater. its going to be a tfl. wing t o is good when your playing an uncoached d that the d-line just runs up feild and past the ball. 06' 07' the first game smryna and wc. d-line over ran it every time secound game rdale had 0 offfense its that simple. the reason y people steel run it in high school is becaues high school players r selfish an uncoachible. havent seen to much wing t on sat. or sun. lately.......lol

I hope you have been man enough to go face to face with Aydelott with your issues. If not, then this is cowardly and classless.

R'Dale's talent is down for a whole number of reasons. Lack of community support seems to be one of those reasons as well.

 

Nolan can fire the coaches as he sees fit. Too bad he can't fire these so called "fans" and "supporters." If Aydelott does go, what coach do you think you can get with behavior like this? Think they wont be reading posting sites like this? And do you think they are blind to the downward trend of athletes at R'Dale, even though many of you deny it? The word is out on R'Dale around the state, men. The talent is down so beat them now.

 

So you offer a new coach less talent and less support, more headaches and demand more wins. Yeah, the great ones will come out of the woodwork for this job. Sad what many of you are doing to what was once a great program. You will destroy the future of this program by trying to get rid of the current coach...and around the state, he is considered one of the best.

 

Wake up and class up, men. There are better ways of going about this.

 

 

 

Lol...... this is funny. The people and kids in the boro want to win. parents will do anything to get their kids in the school that is winning zone. Yea its not just rdale an oak anymore. but the same rules steel apply. blackman didnt realy have an effect on riverdale. i remmember they had a meeting during school an they were saying who was zoned blackman an couldnt attend rdale's spring practice. i seen at least 20 players get up an say im not going to im going to blackman. you don't just think that eric locke alvan duke, ralph kings, jessei chesterfeilds, teron henry, rico turner yes i said rico, dave thomas and others. i can name 10 oak players that were zoned rdale and went to oak. u think these guys were just born and raised in these zones. i know at least 15 to 20 people that were not zoned to the school in m'boro that they attended. they took the proper steps according to the rules and moved. One of the best hires r'dale made in the mid to late 90's was the hire of a junior pro coach as an assistant along with a few central middle coach's. its funny that about 80% of a middle school that went 27-0 in three years attended r'dale. wat im trying to say is coach A doesnt no the people of the boro theres no one on that staff that does besides feilds and his word along is not enough. no ones big brother got coached or played for coach A. not saying its right but they dont trust him. Getting back on track means hireing acoach that can get the best athlets back there. right now oak has a great coach that won 2 state champs @ r'dale he has great credit. its kids coming up who's big brother played for him. u want it back r'dale bring back brittio,wyant, snow, gardener, white, patterson, w. henry . save up for three years and try and but rankin back. but you have to get somebody the boro trust. the town is turning to a city, but there mind sets the same.

I have seen some pretty good football teams in the past 10,15 years being from middle tenn. I hunge around the Riverdale program until last year. 3rd, 4th round they traveled or a far west or east team came in to play. This year and a little of last year I have watched the mid west 2a teams like Hickman and Lewis. No disrepect there is a big gap in the skill talent and level Im use to seeing. Coach Gary Rankin is working with the same type of talent and skill he had in Murfreesboro on top of his great coaching. The man has been in Murfreesboro the 1st weekend of December for like the last 8 years with 2 diferrent teams. I have yet to see a skill player that run a 4.4 40 or a backs benching over 315.I no Gary and he keeps fast kids I don't care where you send him he's gone find speed and make them strong. The best player I have seen out there is Hickmans DJ Key so if you all can stop 5 or 6 Keys then you deserve the gold, but not the Lewis I saw. Lewis you are a good team, thats a good region for you, and you compete well there. Don't make statements like we can play with Alcoa thats like saying your ready to play a 5a schedule there is only a hand full of non 5a teams that could do that Alcoa is one, and you are not. Lewis that wing thing you run works against East Hickman. But Gary Rankin no. You all are not 2TD's better than Hickman. There were to plays where at least 3 tackles were missed, not broken by the running back,but missed and you all capitalized and scored on thoes plays. Now secound round with Scott back and Haymanes back I don't no if you make it to Alcoa. If you make it 40+

Iv been around real football an there a physicaly good team. i guess ur a Marshall county fan im realy close freinds with the staff over there.where im from they have had 2 down years 12-1, 11-1 . 11 and 12 wins ant enough where im from don't get it twisted. Im use to seeing all-staters, all-americans, players that pay no mind to all- region honors even though they play in the best region in the state.Its cool i understand you didn't no you thought i was some country red neck die hard hickman fan. like a guys said earlier watch what you say on here. Last year you could not get on here at any given time w/out someone from Riverdale talking some football talk.. it was great.. WHERE HAVE THEY ALL GONE!! there were players on here talking about who too watch.. supporters on here talking about backing the warriors no matter what.. and heck b4 the friday night game was done there was already a new posting starting for the game the next week.. and people are wondering what is going on @ Riverdale... Well I tell you.. Just bc you loose a few games does not mean you loose your supporters!!! Come on now!

We don't deal with this lose stuff very well a change needs to be made. Hickman is not bad they have gotten away from the wing T and spread it around a bit it want come down to coaching. Nick Patterson is a former player and coach from Gary Rankin's old University of Riverdale, helped start the Eagleville program,went Hickman last year as D cordnator. His boy's wil be physicaly prepared, if any flaws they will be mental.Good team on realistic possible trip to murfreesboro if they can hold it to geather.

I am sure Sam's parents wants him to play his sr yr and of course, Sam has a chance to play ball after high school.

Thats what they all say until the next year comes around and their working in a factory. They don't just give a way play football in college tickets, He has no body, and his stats are not good enough to overcome that. My bad their is always NIIA or what ever that is they call football.

Sam Youree is probably the most overrated player of high school sports. He wasnt that good at OHS, he'll be horrible at smyrna, and as for Gray- HE NEEDS TO STICK TO BASEBALL

Thankyou it's not magic it dont just happen over night. I played the year we lost to DC. We new they were a good team they just had not finished a game that year even the ones they had won.

As a former Blackman player (2000-2002), and now a college football player, I can say that I always had confidence that we'd beat Riverdale. But we never did, and the teams I played on went 8-4 and 9-4. So if we couldn't beat them when we were that good, I doubt they will this year unless some kind of miracle happens.

You right, it's bad when the best player in blackman history from 00-02 be like.I should have stayed at riverdal thats the worst thing I ever did. I mean we had a chance but, it's just the fact you playin Riverdale and no matter how much time left or what the score is or how many times they turn the ball over You just cant stop riverdale and eventualy they gone stop you. So the best thing is just to hope a lot of people get hurt and they run out of time. Becaues they have only been physicaly beat 3 time in the last 14 year,and all them teams were final four or better teams
