  1. Thank you for the run down. One Central fan mentioned that Burnette was a former Red Devil and you give the history of every kid no longer playing for Maryville. Is this a sore subject for you Ron? I think red and black was just making a reference that many of Burnette's former teammates are Red Devils. Not that parents shouldn't move.
  2. Halls is coming off of a big rivalry win. Defense played pretty good, Offense has to eliminate mistakes and get Turner back to form for the stretch run. L. C. appears to be struggling but will be looking to get an upset and start building momentum for the years to come. On paper, it looks like Halls should win, but games are not played on paper. Halls is not good enough to take anyone lightly. Thanks seniors for all your work. Enjoy senior night. Maybe if things work out, you will get another home game in a few weeks.
  3. In the freshmen game Powell scored on the last play of the game. I think that made the score... Halls 44 Powell 21
  4. HTV, I meant no harm. I was close enough to see and hear. Matt works the officials pretty good. There is nothing wrong with that. It is still their call to make. I don't blame the coach. Good luck the rest of the season.
  5. Hi ZCAR, This game reminded me of the old Alabama / Tennessee games. Both teams could score plenty of points against anybody else, but when they played each other, it always got hard to score. This rivalry is huge to these kids. They know the opponent so well that it is hard to get the upper hand. I kinda thought at least 2 of those holding calls were pretty borderline to bogus. They let worse muggings go without flags. I noticed that all but one of the holds was on the Powell side of the field where Lowe was pleading and begging for calls all night. I thought both teams played hard and kept the other team from big plays. Hats off to Powell for playing a tough game. It has been hard for which ever team comes out on the short end of this one for years. Kitts had 110 yards and it felt like a bad night. Things could be worse. For Halls, I can't remember the last time we could control our own destiny this late in the year. But we are not good enough to start making plans for the week after S.D. yet. We have to play these last three hard. Go Big Red!
  6. West and Powell might not beat Central but S.D. ........... Second through Fourth is wide open now.
  7. I would say Reese's return does as much for morale as anything. He has to be a little rusty. I don't think he will be a drop off from Gunter (who should still get some snaps), but I don't expect an earth shattering performance his first week back. Picking up the right guy on pass protection and holding his own in the defensive middle will be fine. Anyhting else is gravy. I think Houston and Kitts will get their yards. Both can be quiet for a while and then pick up 60 or 70 in a hurry. I think Turner played pretty good up to Gibbs. He has struggled the last two games. Maybe he is mentally tired, or maybe people have seen film on him and are reading him better. I hope his gets a second wind for the stretch run. All in all I think Halls may have a little edge but not much. It should be a great game.
  8. The game is at Halls. It is Homecoming.
  9. I think the final score in the freshman game was Halls 28 Clinton 16
  10. This should be a good game. Both teams are a little young and unpredictable. Both teams have shown a little Jekyll and Hyde this year. Should be a great game as always.
  11. Kitts continues to get better. He went over 200 yards tonight and 3 TDs. The last TD was a great run on 4th and 1. Stupid turnovers and roughing the punter call have to be eliminated. Someting like four turnovers in or near the red zone and one over on downs. These let Clinton hang around. Effort was very good I thought. Huge game next week.
  12. I have not got to see any practice this week except for some of the practice on Wednesday. In my opinion, anytime you lose the way Halls lost last Friday, (lack of intensity, lack of fundamental execution) you must create some competition for starting postitions. This will help the intensity and it usually lets the cream rise to the top. I am sure that the coaches needed to see that this week as did the players. Intensity was high on Wednesday. However, the coaches didn't appear too happy with execution and some instances of lack of hustle. Of course the bar has been raised and I thought more hustle and intensity were being demanded by the coaches Wednesday than has been all year. (including 2 a days) I hope this has a positive effect on the team. We find out tonight. I have no guess on what will happen. They are saying that there could be some showers around.
  13. Clinton had a great showing at Oak Ridge. Halls was terrible against Bearden. How does this game play out? I guess no one is too sure because no thread has been started up to now. It should be a great game. I know Hazlehurst, Stone and the recievers at Clinton bring a strong offensive game. Any comments or predictions?
  14. red and black, You are right about Halls being banged up. Those out for the season have been identified on this thread but I don't think it is wise to share the others that will try to play through some pain. I wouldn't want to give the next team any help.
  15. Hard to watch Friday night's game for a Halls fan. Halls was on the edge of breaking a couple of runs. Always seemed to miss one block. (except for the one TD) The defense looked soft and often missed assignments around the end. Credit goes to a very good, senior led, team from Bearden. Someone at the Central game asked me what I thought about this Halls team a few weeks ago. I told them then, that the talent at Halls was coming back up. And I told him that a lot of the players were young and many were going to have to learn how to win again. I told him Halls would upset somebody this year and they would probably lose to someone they shouldn't. Bearden was not the team that Halls should have beaten. I am afraid that it could be S.D., Clinton or Powell. But don't get too upset Halls fans. Sometimes you have growing pains. It is harder to lose when expectations begin to rise. Sneaking up on a team that underestimates you is one thing, but beating a good team that sees you coming is much harder. I still think Halls is heading in the right direction. Go Big Red and good luck against the Dragons.
  16. Hey guys, I believe Halls is a little beat up from last weeks game. I also don't see Halls matching last week's intensity in a non conference game. I think this game will be phyical. I hope Halls can conntinue to get stronger as the game goes on but... Halls may have a hard time getting close and staying there in this one. Bearden 28 Halls 17 I hope I am wrong again this week.
  17. My understanding is that all TN freshmen teams may play 8 games plus one bowl game. I think that is why some end up playing 9 games total.
  18. The Halls freshmen also won. 20-0 Good job guys.
  19. The DB's are kind of hard to get a handle on. #2, #10 and #1 all can look very soft and give up passes underneath to the point it drives you crazy but it seems that they learn as the game goes on (or the coaches do) and all of a sudden they start breaking on the ball and getting picks or near picks. IMO they are athletic and still getting better. #4 looks like the best DB at stopping the run but its risky playing him on Defense I think.
  20. Congrats to Knox Halls freshmen. They won against West tonight 20 - 0.
  21. Your points are valid about the West defense. But understand also that Halls did most of the damage between the tackles before breaking free. Central likes the option and the sweeps. (at least against Halls) West isn't slow. It will be interesting to see in Central has similar success. Good Luck.
  22. I love your enthusiasm, and I think Kitts play has been outstanding the past two weeks, but try not to forget that Wes could only muster about 130 yards in the first two games combined. West and Gibbs may not be great indicators of what is to come against Bearden or even Clinton and so on. This week will really show how far the O-line and the Kitts & Waggoner show have come. Bearden is much tougher up front. If I am not mistaken, they have given up less than 100 yards a game avg. in rushing and the only team to have any success was Farragut. In my opinion, if Halls can run the ball successfully this week, they will win. Should be a great game.
  23. First, Reddevilfever, don't let your fever make you say things about a very good quarterback in Ryan. You usually have great insight but occasionally your attempts to raise eyebrows really make me question your knowledge of the game. Second, this could be a very wild season for determining playoff seeds. I think Clinton and South Doyle are very capable of pulling off some big wins. I can't even begin to put someone into a seed besides Maryville. I am not prepared to count anyone out except for Lenoir City. So fasten your belt and enjoy the ride. Third, sx123, You list Halls at 7-3 in you hypothetical situation. Does this mean you expect Halls to lose this week to Bearden. Just wondering. Maybe that will come up on another thread. On a final note, I was surprised to see so few in the following of West fans. The ones I spoke to said that they don't usually have many fans travel. Also, I thought the players, coaches and fans that were present handled a tough loss with loads of class. The game didn't seem to have any trash talking or cheap shots. It was just a great football game.
  24. This is a hard game to call for me. I picked Halls to lose to West because I didn't think they could rush for over 300 yards as a team and get 2 ints on Ryan. Boy was I wrong. I think Bearden is a very good team. Bearden for Karns was a tough trade on the schedule. Bearden appears to play very good, fundamental, team football. This is a credit to the coaches. I have to wonder why they didn't put up bigger numbers on West defense. However, Bearden plays great defense. Sounds like a low scoring game. That means someone will probably put up 50 points. I will pick a winner later.
  25. Halls 52 West 49 2 OT What a game!! I think Halls was down 28-9 at halftime. Turnovers played a big part in the comeback. I think West only had to punt one time. Wes Kitts had to have rushed for over 300 yards and only 1 TD. (The one that won the game in the 2nd OT) Kevin Waggoner must have had close to 100 yards also. The stats will be ridiculous for both teams. Halls may have lost Micah Bolden for the year. They looked pretty grim on the sideline after his knee injury. I hope I am wrong. West has a great team. Good luck to them for the rest of the season.
