  1. Hey "Ballgame"......

I'm a Knox Central fan and we'll be seeing you guys in about a month, but I just wanted to commend you on a great post.

South-Doyle has definitely had some lean years in the past, but in this day and age, especially when kids have so many other options besides sports and school activities, it's good to see that the student body continues to support the athletic programs.....win OR lose.

  2. This thread is as boring as my wife's soap operas....time to stir the pot a little!!!!

The AP poll recently came out and ranked the Cats as # 2 in the state.......behind Maryville (as usual). I'm not disagreeing with the ranking, but I'm not agreeing with it either. They are only three games into the season, but I'm concerned about the slow starts, and too many stupid penalties. Granted, there are going to be mistakes throughout the game, but these guys need to stop killing themselves with all of the penalities!!!! Not to bad-mouth the QB, but as much as he scrambles, it's kind of understandable why they have so many holding penalties.....the O-Lineman don't know where he is!!!!

Also, throughout the past several years, there has always been a "playmaker" for CHS. Last year it was T. Scott. This year, nobody has seemed to step up and take on that position. Granted they have Adkins and Da Da, and they both have made some great plays early in the season....but I still haven't seen that player that makes you go "WOW"!!!!! There is no shortage of talent for the Cats, but I really would like to see Cruze, Nelson and OJ bring the house down.

The Defense has done an admirable job. As the saying goes, they have bent, but they haven't broke. The Halls game showed what the D is capable of. Once Longworth returns, look for the Cats D to step it up another notch.

Now, as far as that state ranking goes........we got a long way to go before I really believe that. Maryville will be tough as usual and Powell will give us one of the best games that we have had from them in the past few years. Those guys are loaded and have a good chance of upsetting us....especially if we don't get our act together.

I don't want to overlook Lenoir City or Bearden, but these next two games we need to get our crap together and be the dominating team that we are capapble of being and show the rest of the region that we are the real deal.

I hope I don't sound like a negative poster.....I love my Cats and will be there for them whether they win or lose. I'm just expressing some of my concerns.

  3. I think in the larger metro areas it's not going to be that big a deterrent. Because almost all of their opponents live within a certain radius of that particular town.

But the school systems that are going to be affected the most are the ones that live in the rural areas and have to travel 1-2 hours just to play a region game.

A good example is Livingston Academy....just north of Cookeville, TN. Their region consists of 6 teams in the Knoxville area, and they have to play 3 of those games on the road. One of those road games is in Scott Co. I don't want to bad-mouth the Scott Co fans, but that place is about 45 minutes to an hour north of Knoxville and in the middle of nowhere.

I'm sure there are other teams that may struggle with fuel costs, but this was the first school that came to mind.

  4. Lonas Seiber of Knoxville Central without a doubt!!!! This guy kicked a 56 yard field goal during passing league. During practices he consistently hits from 60+ yards.

In Centrals first game, he was 3/3 for field goals, with his longest at 46 yards, and was 3/3 on PAT's. In CHS second game, he had a field goal attempt and extra point blocked, but that doesn't diminish his talents.

To date, he has put every kick off at LEAST 8-9 yards deep in the end zone....if not through it.

He's the real deal and several major colleges are already interested in him. I seriously doubt there's a better kicker in the state.

He's also ranked in the top 60 in the nation as a soccer player within his age group as well as a talented punter and receiver. For now, he duties are just kicking......the coaches don't want to risk the possibility of injury and jeapordizing his future.

  5. Back in '03, Central laid a butt kicking on Clinton. I think the final score was 71-0. I hate it for the kids to get beat like that, but..........????

When Stever Spurrier was at Florida - he said that he was not going to tell his 2nd & 3rd team guys NOT to score. The way he saw it, those guys work just as hard in practice and deserve the chance to show what they can do.

Also...some states have a "mercy rule". Meaning there is a continous clock without stoppage once the point differential exceeds a certain # of points. Any thoughts on that???

I KNOW Kentucky uses that rule, but I can't remember the point differential. I think it's around 35 points in the 4th quarter and the clock runs non-stop.

  6. First, I can't believe that there's not more talk on this page. This should be a good game against two good teams. Central is coming off two consecutive 10-3 seasons, and Farragut's last two seasons were 5-5 and 9-3. The question all of last year was "Is Farragut back?" It will be interesting to see if the Admirals had a fluke season last year in a somewhat unbalanced region, or if these guys are for real. I heard that one of the Reveiz kids is pretty good and I can't wait to see him play. However, Central will be missing the services of stand-out LB Robert Longworth. That match-up would have been worth the price of admission AND the traffic in West Knoxville.

Second......SS55, what in the world are you talking about???? Central and Farragut didn't scrimmage this year. They went against each other a couple of years ago in the jamboree (which Central won). Scrimmaged again last fall (which Central won) and went against each other the following night in the Jamboree last year(which Central won again).

I'll be there early to see a good game and wish Longworth a speedy recovery from his injury. Most of all, I'm glad to see Admirals Coach Courtney back on the sidelines for another season. No predictions here, but I hope the Cats bring back a "W" to Fountain City.

  7. "I wouldn't pick one because it's kind of stupid to argue about this if they're no longer in high school."

    Great point Roadrunner!!! thumb

It's pretty rude to bash kids on their grades. Does anybody know if they have any learning disabliities or not? Also, the way some of you misspell words and abuse the english language in your posts is pathetic. Maybe some of you need to look in the mirror before calling other people's grades into question.

Good luck to both kids and hope to see them excel in their careers.

  8. Here's a link to the WB's e-mail if you would like to send a complaint: questions@wb20tv.com

I guarantee this wouldn't happen if Maryville was playing in another state FB title game!!!!!

Where's booreally and AERoadrunner when you need them????

  9. Technical Difficulties my rear end!!!! Can't they pick up a feed from another station airing the game and broadcast it to us in K-Town? I don't know anything about how that stuff works, but it's pretty dissapointing.

  10. Rebel Raider, I know that you are a student at MHS. Since you do so much trash talking why don't you put your band instrument down, suit up with the rest of the football team and play with the real men on the field. And for your information, I'm not going to respond to any of you other posts.....I learned a long time ago to never argue with an idiot. People begin to wonder who the idiot really is.

Once again, congrats to the Rebels on the "W" and a great game. Wish you guys the best the remainder of the play-offs.

  11. Congrats Maryville....that was indeed a good game. Excluding the 56-10 thrashing that the cats took in the regular season, I think both of last year's games and tonights were some of the best games between two great teams that I have ever seen.

Central believed they could win as well, but sometimes things don't turn out the way we wish they would. As much as this loss hurts this cats fan, I can't wait until next year to see some more great games between these two teams.

Once again, congrats to the Rebels and bring that gold ball back home to East TN.

  12. I'll give Maryville fans credit for one thing.....they keep their threads on the first page - usually within the top 5.

I'll also give you credit for another thing.....On page three of this thread, I said that most Maryville fans have taken arrogance to a new level. I don't mean to offend anyone, but all you have to do is look at your own posts for proof.

Listen guys, I don't know if we are going to beat you or not. That's why I love this game and this rivalry. The winner will be decided on the field and not on Coach T. Regardless, I'll be there cheering on my beloved Cats and if Maryville should win, then congrats and best of luck the rest of the way. If Central should win, then I'm not going to make a butt-hole out of myself as some Maryville fans have.

Now, I've got a SERIOUS problem with people on here talking trash about Coach Helton. It was just a year ago that Coach Helton could have lost his life, but some of you forget that this is JUST A GAME!!!! Some people may not like Coach Helton, but a life is more important than another check-mark in the "W" column.

As far as trashing Zach, Terrance Scott and David "Da Da" Gaston....remember that they are still kids. Do you remember what your life was like when you were 16, 17 or 18 years old??? You guys have done a fair amount of trashing their names in every possible way that you can. Believe me, if I was one of their parents, you would have a serious fight on your hands if I found out who you were and trashing my kid the way that some of you have.

Have you heard anybody trash talking Byner or Tallent??? NO!!!!!!!

At least that's one thing that we have over you guys.....respect for our opponent.

Now, I honestly expect to get blasted for my comments by the typical Maryville fans that frequent this page. All I can say is bring it on. I'm not checking this thread anymore until October 2005. Too many arrogant, self-centered, ignorant idiots posting senseless BS on here.
