1. Need a little help here . . . Last road game I used MapQuest directions for Science Hill and ended up getting a pleasant tour of Johnson City after pulling up to a dark school. The various directions received trying to find the football stadium had us all over JC and we missed the entire 1st quarter.

Is the Karns football field at the high school? I lived off Western Ave. during a year at UT and seem to remember that if you follow Western Ave going to Oak Ridge, you can't miss the high school. However, that particular year at UT was somewhat hazy, so I need a little help. Directions from Campbell Co. to Karns would be greatly appreciated. I do not want to take a chance of missing one play in this game!

  2. Easy, Easy, not all "guru's" are like the one's you refer to.  CC has been impressive to be in the situation they are in.  Their accomplishments should be celebrated.

    825404154

Finally, a "guru" with class & intelligence. Too many folks seem to forget that this is HIGH SCHOOL kids we are talking about. How anyone can have so much animosity directed at young men who have committed so much of themselves is beyond me.

Now, for some game comments. The Cougars should enter the Beaver stadium highly inspired and be ready to take care of business. Karns will present a HUGE challenge because so much is at stake for the Beavers also. The Cougar D has fared well against big offensive lines & swift backs for the most part, Jeff Co. & DB being the glaring exception. The LB Corps for the Cougars will put the pads to Elder in a fierce manner, the Four Horsemen will use their speed advatage to offset the size advantage, and the O-Line will give Johnson enough daylight to run to victory. Turnovers, special team play & key penalties could very well determine the outcome of this toss-up, but the Cougars will prevail in an emotional, fierce, hard fought game.

  3. TMSAA Large School C'Ship match-up:

    North Anderson vs. Clinton

    Tuesday, Novemeber 2nd

    7pm

    @ Oliver Springs

    $5.00 admission

A few years ago (college days) I'd have a lot to say about this, but....I'm not real big on words anymore, just play. So....the only thing I will say about this is: We will show up to play next week!! Outside of that, I'm keeping quiet because I believe in letting our play do the talking!!

Hope to see everyone next Tuesday evening!!

    Coach Stiltner

What were the scores of the semi-final games of North Anderson vs. Robertsville and the match-up of Clinton vs. Jefferson?  Just curious.  Thanks!

    North Anderson

  4. yea, sure he is.  probably more educated than all the CC posters, im sure a community college education would do that.  oh and what does he coach now ??

oh  thats right, he got fired.

    825403019

If you want to get technical about it 'guru, shouldn't you make sure you have proper punctuation and such before being critical of others for their typos?

It must really be a sad existence to be filled with so much envy, bitterness and hatred.

  5. ahhhh so the old ugly head is once again rising in the cougar den!!!!!!!!!  anyone have the scoop as to what's going on and why?  . . .  game is still on the 29 (fri) right, cause i seen somewhere where games where moved to thurs. i just might get the old lady off of me and show up who knows?????????? thumb

    825401889

The game is still set for Friday. The only game on Thursday that may have an affect on the Cougars is the MoWest-Cherokee game. Go Cherokee!

JKar, come on over the the Blue & Orange Cougar section Friday - you can make it up to Lady JKar Saturday night since the Vols have an early kickoff.

  6. The Indians, having already clinched the #1 seed in the Big East may call off the dogs early and rest up some key players before the playoffs. Despite the beating they put on Campbell Co., there was still some hard licks delivered by the Cougars. DB can win by as much as they want: they will coast and then rest some folks.

  7. well, its been a great year for the cougars from campbell county, BUT the season is not overyet. CC will make the playoffs but with a loss this Friday night at karns sends them on the road.WHich may not be a bad thing considering in my opinion the cougars are a better road team when away from some of what i think are distractions around here.CC has some team friction as my latest source tells me, so watch out.  With Steiner out cc is hurting bad at qb, it will hurt them this week as the cougars defense plays thier hearts out, but a stagnating offense loses the game for them,

    GO COUGS

    825401514

The Cougars have achieved far too much this year to start finger-pointing at this stage of the season. Whatever the problem MAY be, Woods and some of the other leaders of the team need to have a players only meeting and air things out fast. This is definitely not the time to be second-guessing or having disharmony among the TEAM.

    ONE HEARTBEAT!

  8. . . . now all that has to happen is the game and with a loss a lot of score board watching.

    825400912

At least we will know the outcome of the MoWest vs. Cherokee game Thursday night. Just win Friday Cougars and let the others have the suspense! thumb

  9. Dobyns-Bennett's d-line is awesome. They swarm to the football, because they are so quick. They get to the runners and the quarterback like crazy, we have 5 really awesome d-ends who can switch in and out, who all have blazing speed and lights out attitudes. And their nose guards are really quick also, just ask CC how good our d-line is

    825400048

The Tribe's D-Line is the best I've seen since the days of the Purple People Eaters, the Steel Curtain & the Doomsday Defense!

Now for the pop-quiz: How many of you pups out there can name the NFL teams these nicknames represent. Bonus points if you can actually name the players that made up these fiercesome foursomes. A thata-boy award if you can name names & positions!

Nobody over the age of 30 is eligible.

  10. Straight from the TSSAA site, the breakdown is as follows:

    Dobyns-Bennett is first.

If Campbell County wins, Campbell County is second and Karns is third; Sevier County is fourth unless Jefferson County wins and Sevier County loses, in which case Jefferson County is fourth.

If Karns wins and Jefferson County loses, Karns is second, Campbell County is third, and Sevier County is fourth.

If Karns wins, Jefferson County wins and Sevier County loses, Karns is second, Jefferson County is third, and Campbell County is fourth.

If Karns wins, Jefferson County wins, and Sevier County wins, Karns is second, Sevier County, Campbell County, and Jefferson County are tied for third with 4-3, 6-4 records. It goes to the second tiebreaker.

In the second tiebreaker if Knoxville Halls wins, Sevier County is third and Jefferson County is fourth.

If Knoxville Halls loses, Morristown West wins, and Morristown East loses, Sevier County is third and Jefferson County is fourth.

If Knoxville Halls loses, Morristown West loses, and Morristown East wins, Campbell County is third and Sevier County is fourth.

If Knoxville Halls loses, Morristown East wins, and Morristown West wins, then it goes to the third tiebreaker. Sevier County is third and Jefferson County is fourth.

Best options for the Campbell Co. Cougars:

    1. BEAT KARNS - lock up #2 seed Big East

    2. Hope that Jefferson Co. or Sevier Co. is upset

    3. Quickly become a big fan of the Carter Green Hornets

    4. Cheer on the Morristown East Hurricanes and hope for a MoWest loss

Personally, I like option #1! thumb

  11. Going into the final regular season game, who would have thought in August that the battle for the #2 seed in Region 1 5A would be between the Campbell Co. Cougars and the Karns Beavers. Usually these two teams meet annually in the season finale' in a battle to escape the cellar in Region 1.

However, this season has been special for both teams. Karns owns impressive victories over Science Hill & Jefferson Co. Campbell Co. has posted 4 shut-outs enroute to earning a school history 6 wins, including hard fought road wins @ Sevier Co. and @ Science Hill.

There are several big questions for the Cougars as they head into this all-important game. Can the Cougar Defense & the Four Horsemen muster up another effort against a HUGE offensive line to shut down Elder as they did against PrepXtra Top 10 RBs Zacc Pate and Wesley Smith? Can Coach Wells design a scheme to overcome the loss of Soph Sensation Brance Stiner who helped the Cougars establish a strong & balanced offensive attack? Will Chris Johnson's shoulder injury limit him in this battle of featured Running Backs, (Johnson vs. Elder)? Can the Cougar O-Line shake off the ill effects of the #1 KDB Indians and bounce back with the pride & determination that has carried them so far? Can the outstanding trio of Cougar LBs shake off the bangs & bruises of a hard fought season to garner one more big effort before the playoffs?

It all hinges on this game. A huge regular season for the Cougars. Now it all comes down to this game. A game against a fierce & perhaps biggest rival in Region 1 for the Cougars. A win and the Cougars will host their first ever play-off game. A loss will regulate the Cougars to travelling to a Region 2 powerhouse, or worse yet, possibly out of the play-offs altogether. That would be unthinkable for this Cougar team, but it is all up to them on how they perform vs. Elder & the rest of the Beavers.

  12. Your best season ever and after loosing to the #1 team in the state you start complaining?  No wonder it took you guys 20 something years to have a great season.  with people like this it make take 20 more to have another.

Congrats on a great season cougars.  keep up the hard work and good luck in the post season.

    825397245

The Cougars need to take the Dobyns Bennett game and review it, learn from it and then FORGET it. DB simply has too many weapons for an up & coming team to compete with at this stage.

The senior leadership of the Cougars need to regroup, heal up & get ready for the game of their football lives. Now is not the time to start having doubters. Reality stinks regarding DB - Karns is a different story. The Cougars have faced big O-Lines and good RBs already this season. The D should be ready for Elder & Company, but Coach Wells & staff will have to figure a way to get the Cougar offense moving again.

The support from fans of other schools has been wonderful & greatly appreciated this year. Hopefully the Cougars will get an opportunity to host a playoff game and keep the program building. It is a shame for a school the size of Campbell Co. to only dress out about 35-40 players. With the excitement and attention this year's Cougar team has generated, perhaps it will encourage more of the student body to get involved and continue what this special class has started.

  13. Napier is our LB/RB.  Slover is our back up QB. Coach Wells puts our LB/RB as QB and not our back up QB..... horrible coaching.  Also, I think our OL and DL needs to learn how to tackle again...

    825396489

Guys, sometimes we have to admit when we are outmatched. Our Cougars have played with grit, determination & emotion all year during this special season. It is not good to have the #1 team in the State to roll in to town when our tank is near empty. Coach Wells did what he could with what options he had available. He survived to play another day. Coach Wells is building something special for Cougar football - let's enjoy the ride!

    GO COUGARS! POUND THE BEAVERS!

  14. I've got some observations to add, not trying to rain on anyones parade, but...

. . . Even with CC's normal starting QB or your first discussed back-up - it would not have made a difference in the outcome against the Indians, sorry...might have scored, but don't even start to go near the thought of a sophmore qb making a difference last night...

Karns has two 300+ pound offensive linemen and the other starters on the offensive front are big...they line up with no splits and power the ball straight at you...nothing flashy at the point of attack, but Elder can flash into the open field and has some wheels...

#6 needs to have his mouth washed out...way too much profanity and whining...

    Roll Tribe Roll

    825397110

I don't think Eric Ainge at QB would have made a difference. The Tribe was as fired up as any team I ever seen come to the Campbell Co. stadium. I don't know if it was the hoopla surrounding the media darling Cougars or the fact that DB is on a mission. They certainly had the athletic talents, but throw in some strong emotion and they are unbeatable in East Tennessee, at least.

But while you are lecturing us on the behavior of a Cougar player, what about the DB fans. It was obvious that the Cougars were outmatched, but the DB student section led by a wanna-be Tonto with a feather up his *** was leading some pretty tasteless cheers late in the game. Their attitude almost had me converted to turning against Region 1 and pulling for anybody but DB. However, when I had an opportunity to talk to some DB players on the field after the game, they showed what a class they are. I hope they go all of the way.

  15. The Karns coaching staff sat behind me during the DB-CC game.  I guess that they were able to develop an understanding of the Cougar's offensive tendencies.

However, I doubt that the Karns staff was able to learn much about the CC defense that would applicable to their game plan; DB threw the ball at will, and Karns can't throw it to save their life.  CC's corners played about 15 yards off Lamon, and he still burned them deep.

Big game for both team, no doubt.

    825396306

Does Karns have the same type of O-Line Dobyns Bennett has? Do they have the same type of defense? This is the battle for the #2 seed. Which D will play with the most intensity? Which O-Line will give their all-star back (Johnson vs Elder) room to run? DB's talent pool and depth was too much for the Cougars to compete with, particulary with their QB on the sidelines. Next week will be a much better match.

  16. the 4th seed thing is assuming that jeff co. beats bearden (is that a lock) what do you think.

    825396273

Jefferson Co. SHOULD have an easier time with Bearden than Sevier Co. will have with South Doyle. It is all up to the Cougars as far as their seeding goes. If they can bounce back from a devastating loss to Kingsport Dobyns Bennett, they should be OK.

The Campbell Co. vs Karns game has the makings of an old-fashioned smash mouth game that would make General Neyland proud. Johnson vs. Elders. Which defense will be up to the task?

  17. OUCH!

    825395417

Well said, CougarTrav02. DB was everything that they are built up to be. Their D was absolutely amazing. It took them all of about 5 plays to figure out that Johnson was trying to run out of a version of the Wing T. Gotta give a "hats off" to Coach Wells for his creativity. The opening drive had promise with Johnson running for +7, +27 and +6 until two consecutive snaps over his head pushed them back from the DB 31 to the Cougar 37. It is a shame the snaps over his head count against Johnson in the official stats. After that early high-water mark, it got downright UGLY.

Johnson hurt his shoulder on a tackle during a punt return with 2:18 to go in the 1st quarter. After that, he only carried 6 more times and then was sat down on offense and played a few plays at defensive back.

Congratulations to Kingsport Dobyns Bennett. Their QB, RB and WR are exceptional talents. The Indian players also showed class after the one-sided game, with several asking about the health status of Johnson & Soph QB Brance Stiner, who was on the sideline after having surgery today on his broken thubm.

Good luck the rest of the way TRIBE! You should represent Region1 5A all the way to the BIG GAME!
