1. Was it his throwing hand or off hand????????????

    825384342

I am afraid it is his throwing hand, but not completely sure with all of the hoopla of the come-from-behind victory. He did not seem to be in much pain, but he did have it wrapped. I will speak with his parents later today and post an update.

possumcop, I can't remember if it was you or JKar that said it, but the statement that "all homecooking is not in the kitchen" was right on in this game. Worst officiating I have ever witnessed. :P

  2. 1.Campbell County

    2.Kingsport Dobyns-Bennett

    3.Karns

    4.Jefferson County

ChrisBurr555555, I love your seedings, but the Cougars will have to play the game of their football lives to compete with Kingsport Dobyns Bennett. The Cougars overcame the worst officiating I have ever witnessed at any level in over 35 years of watching football to earn a come-from-behind victory at Science Hill. The physical game took its toll on the valiant Cougars with Soph QB Brance Stiner suffering a fractured hand. His status is unknown at this time. Other Cougars were bleeding, bruised and sore after this slobber-knocker of a game.

It is interesting that Sevier Co. and Jefferson Co. each close out their season with Bearden and South Doyle. If I understand it correctly, with Sevier Co. winnning out, they will bump Jefferson Co. out of the playoffs.

  3. That is a shame for Brance Stiner. The Soph. QB had his best game of the year last night rallying the Cougars from an 18 point deficit late in the 3rd quarter. Stiner was on fire, throwing strikes to #8 Eric Summers, #2 Josh Allen and others. Also, a thumbs up to the O-Line - they exhibited their ability to pass block well in addition to usually opening holes for Chris Johnson.

It is a shame such a historic win for the Cougar program has to be mired by an injury to Brance. :P

  4. sevier Co. looked like the team every1 was talkin about early this year... Jeff co looked like they werent ready for a game tonight... Sevier Co pushed jeff all over the field.... what does this mean for playoffs for regieon 1??? Has SC turned this program back in the right direction for future SC teams???? :P

    825384175

Does this mean that Campbell Co. may get credit for beating a GOOD team? And correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Sevier Co. now in the driver's seat regarding a playoff berth? With wins over South Doyle and Bearden the Bears are in and Jeff Co stays home?

  5. Congradulations Campbell County Cougars!,You Are In The Playoffs!

Go Whip DB And Bring The Indians Back To Earth!

    825383703

Even the most optimistic Cougar fans can only hope for a miracle when KDB comes to town next week. Trailing 28-12 with just over 3 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter, the Cougars mounted a furious comeback and owned the 4th quarter at Science Hill to clinch their first ever play-off appearence. However, the game took its toll on the Cougars.

Soph. QB Brance Stiner, who had an unbelievable night, could not finish the last series of the game due to an injured hand. His parents were taking him to have it evaluated. Several other Cougars were banged up in this intense, hard-hitting emotional game.

Not conceding the KDB game, but the Cougars will have to play their game of games to compete with the hard-charging Indians. With the loss of Jefferson Co. to Sevier Co., it appears the battle for the 2nd seed in Region 1 5A will be at Karns in the season finale for the Cougars. Of course, if the Cougars simply beat KDB, they will be the #1 seed! :D

  6. but the ccchs faithful forget that sevier co. had the ball 3 or 4 times maybe inside the 20 or 30 (can't remember which) on the start of possesions for the short field.  and don't forget that sd has some speedy backs on that wet rainy night they lost 20 - 0 and everyone knows how those rainy nights kills speed!!!!

    825382702

    [/quote/}

With all due respect JKar, the field was wet & muddy on both sides of the ball during the Hurricane Ivan game vs. South Doyle. The conditions didn't slow Chris Johnson (1st 200+ game of 3 so far) and his offensive line.

Don't you forget friend that SC did indeed have the ball DEEP in Cougar territory as a result of offensive miscues, but the defense held each time. The only other threat came on a Hail Mary pass to end the half at the 2. Even then, a hit by our DB caused a fumble out of bounds. The Cougars like to hit fast, hard and often. Again, no way SH gets 28. If so, I will be on in the A.m. to eat my words . . .

  7. hmmm a lot of people are picking ccchs to win in the big ones contest something around 70%.

ok here is the official pick by me this week.

sh - big loss in first game with the 2nd qb, will he perform better this week?  defense gave up lot's of points to a good jeff co team.

ccchs - offense has momentum and defense still being stingy.  playing on road in upper east tn. where home cooking isn't always in the kitchen.

    ccchs - 21

    sh - 28

    825382500

Unless the defense falls asleep on the 3 hour bus trip and doesn't make it into the stadium, no way does a 2nd string Qb rack up 28 points on the Cougars. It has been beat to death how the Cougars have only played a lower level of competition, but SH WITH their starting QB, only beat SD 27-25 and surrendered 23 points recently to Bearden. Even at full strength, I couldn't see SH putting 28 on the board unless the offense misfires several times and give the 'Toppers a very short field. I am not driving 3 hours to see my Cougs lose!

  8. TMSAA AA Division (East TN)

    EAST:

    1) North Anderson Co.

    2) Clinton

    3) Jacksboro

    WEST:

    1) Jefferson

    2) Robertsville

    3) Cherokee

    825380786

How are the brackets in the AA Playoffs. I understand that #3 East Jacksboro will visit #2 West Robertsville tuesday night. Is Clinton hosting Cherokee? Are N. Anderson & Jefferson getting bye games?

  9. were not there yet! we have to get thru friday!

but its good to be in this spot.... thumb

    825380410

To say this is the biggest game yet for the Cougars is a gross understatement. I just realized that both the Cougars & the Hilltoppers have KDB at home and visit Karns in the final 2 regular season games. The winner of Friday nights contest should definitely be playoff bound no matter how the last 2 games play out.

  10. At least you guys have someone to argue with. I think the only region teams that have alot of fan support on here are Jeff Co,DB,and CC.

    825380307

I think several Campbell Co. fans are just discovering what a great message board Coacht is. It is definitely enjoyable seeing the smack talk and all at this site. I wish Jeff Co. the best of luck the rest of the way, but I am still hoping for a miracle that we are seeded higher in the playoffs!

In the tie-breaker for the seedings, if teams have the same region record, which is the tie-breaker: head to head or overall record?

  11. CCReciever08, that is a great attitude to take into the game. You know what they say about a wounded animal . . . The Hilltoppers know their slim playoff hopes hinge on an upset victory Friday night. They will throw everything at you in an effort to survive.

BTW, did the official Cougar stats credit you with the last Cougar TD vs. Bearden? On www.lafollettecity.com, you were credited with a 1 yard run/TD. Let me know if I missed it. Great heads-up play in my eyes!

  12. P.S. the "guru" part sounds like a Steve Superior prototype, if thats the attitude they teach up in J.C.

    825380271

LOL possumcop. If the Cougars play their game, do you think we may see some visor throwing Friday night!

  13. If CCHS comes within 28 points I will kiss my own ***.

    825380028

That shouldn't be very hard to do since it appears your head is already up your ***.

What is your beef with the Cougars? Are you a disgruntled Mav fan who is upset with the lull in CC recruits? Are you possibly a coach/player on one of the teams the Cougars have shut out this year? Perhaps you are wanna-be player who couldn't make a team and likes to vent frustration anonymously on a message board when you not busy working out your right arm on another dateless night.

You speak like you have knowledge of the Cougars, yet you don't hint of an alliance to any team. C'mon "guru", give us some basis for your profound insight. Are you simply trying your hand at dark comedy? If so, pretty weak attempt.

  14. 5-5 thanks to CC,that lost cost Jefferson Co a trip to the playoffs in coach K's last season :) I still remember CC lighting off fireworks after the game, and going totally crazy. Left a REAL bad taste in the mouths of the players(and I should know) thought about that game until we played CC again the next year.

    825379746

The fireworks are courtesy of PyroShows who is headquartered in LaFollette - you know, the guys that set off a couple of firecrackers for Boomsday. :)

It is a tradition the Cougars started a few years ago. It is always nice to see them light up the sky after a Cougar TD and especially a Cougar win!

  15. Getting back to the subject at hand, the 5-2 Campbell Co. Cougars vs. the 4-3 Science Hill Hilltoppers, what kind of offensive attack will SH present for the visiting Cougars? Is their WR turned QB a scrambler, a passer, or will they try to win with the proverbial 3 yards & a cloud of dust? There are no stats to be found on SH. They know all about Chris Johnson, Brance Stiner, Josh Allen and the tenacious defense. Can someone give up some info on them?

  16. . . . these new names posting that have been members for over a year or created recently just let's me know that the hay ride is in motion and heading down the trail.

    825377269

That is not necessarily true, there JKar. Many of the "new posters" have been Cougar fans for years, enduring 0-10 seasons where we would be lucky to finish the year with 25 players healthy enough to take the field. We have endured politics at its finest, never giving a coaching staff the fabled 5 years to try to build a program because so & so's son wasn't the starting QB or some nonsense like that. We have followed our Cougars through thick & thin and knew the kids that gave so much of themselves only to be subjected to the coaching merry-go-around.

Why, you ask, if the Cougar Nation has so much support, are the new names just appearing on CoachT? I, for one only discovered the value of this site recently. As word gets out more what a great site this is, more of the Cougar faithful will be popping up. Win, lose or draw, we love our Cougars!

BTW, my claim to fame is that I was Chris Johnson's 1st athletic coach. Taught the kid everything he knows!

  17. I`m not for either team, I could care less who wins or losses because it has no factor on Jefferson Co. I will be pulling for SH when they play Karns, I may even go to the game. I can`t say I`m really that suprised about what CC is doing, in the preseason I picked both them and Karns to be much improved. They have yet to play well against a good opponet, like I said before these next 3 weeks will tell alot.

    825375449

Sorry that the Cougars' schedule does not meet the high standards of traditional powers like Jefferson Co. However, Clinton (1-7) is a natural rival who is going through a rebuilding project with a new coach. Scott Co. (3-4) is also a natural border rival. I don't know why we scheduled MoEast (2-5), but it was a fun game.

However, I notice that Jeff Co.'s non-region games include Rhea Co. (despite a 4-3 record in cellar of Region 4 4A), MoWest (lost to MoEast) and Cocke Co. (2-5 cellar dweller in Region 2 4A).

True, Jeff Co. will coast through Sevier Co., SD & Bearden, but you still better keep an eye on the Cougars. Despite the pasting JC put on the Cougs, we are still 1 game up on you in the Region. The Cougars lost 3-0 to Science Hill last year with Johnson not at full speed. They led KDB for 2 quarters before losing by a larger margin that was not indicative of the game. Karns is always a barn-burner. In this year of miracles for the Cougars, don't print you home play-off tickets yet!

  18. The Campbell Co. Cougars (5-2 / 3-1) visit the Science Hill Hilltoppers (4-3 / 2-2) in a huge game for both teams that will decide a playoff berth in Region 1 5A. The Cougars are in a tie for 2nd place in the region with Karns, behind Kingsport Dobyns -Bennett. A Cougar win will clinch a first time ever playoff berth for the Cougars.

Against common opponents, the Cougars blanked South Doyle 20-0, SH won over SD 27-25. SH defeated Bearden 49-23, the Cougars blanked the Bulldogs 34-0. Against Sevier Co., the Cougars pitched another shutout 8-0 and the Hilltoppers fell to the Bears 23-7.

Campbell Co is coming off a huge 34-0 homecoming victory vs Bearden and the Science Hill Hilltoppers will try to rebound from a 42-7 loss to Jefferson Co. The Cougars also lost at Jeff Co by a 35-0 margin.

The momentum appears to be on the Cougars' side. However, how much of a toll with the 3 hour bus trip take on these hard charging Cougars? Can a banged up Science Hill team contend with the tenacious Cougar defense? Will the Hilltoppers have a way to stop Chris Johnson, who is having a stellar season running behind a tough & fiesty offensive line? Thoughts . . . ?

  19. As much as CC has improved, they are a definate playoff contender and could possibly make it to the 2nd maybe even 3rd round of the playoffs. But DB is a state title contender, even though CC has upped their level they still need to up their level again to beat DB. Unless they (CC) plays their best game of the season and DB plays very bad i dont see it happening.

    825374069

Let's see first how the Cougars do against Science Hill after the 3 hour bus ride. If the Cougars play as they are capable, with the understanding Science Hill is down with injuries, Campbell Co could clinch thier first ever playoff spot.

Then with KDB coming to town, who knows? Would you have thought we would even be having this discussion at the start of the season? Keep believing Cougar Nation!

  20. Sounds like they need some new recruiters.  If any AC athletes are interested I hear Campbell County has a good shot at the playoffs  this year.  I'm sure they'd welcom a few transfers next season.  LMAO

    825373645

Interstate I-75 also has a northbound lane. Maybe a few of those talented Lake City, Norris & Clinton boys may want to travel north next year. We could use a few linemen & LBs to replace some outstanding seniors we will be losing to graduation. Charlie Heath can always come back home. B)

  21. Friendly, scenic atmospheres reside across the state, but few possess the comfort and splendor of Campbell County.  The foothills of the Cumberland Mountains provide a potent postcard backdrop for a suddenly prominent football team.

And Chris Johnson is a sickeningly talented running back.  Really...just a great great player.  I can't wait to see how far he takes this Cougar squad.

The game didn't go as we anticipated in our portion of the booth (that is, the Bearden portion), but it was still a good experience.  We wish the Cougars the best of luck during the rest of the season.

Also, to those listening to WUTK on the radio or via webcast, sorry for not airing most of the first half.  There was a serious telephone mixup in the station that prevented us from patching into the system until there were 3 minutes left in the first half...we were ticked, but there was nothing we could do.  We're extremely sorry for the inconvenience.

    825373590

Last night's contest reminded me of the Campbell Co vs. Jefferson Co contest. The Cougars entered the game full of fire only to see Chris Shiverdecker take the opening kickoff all the way for a TD, a TD they Cougars never had an answer for. Likewise, the Bulldogs were ready, but on the Cougars' first 2 offensive plays, Chris Johnson went for 83 yards and a TD and followed that up with a 88 yard TD. WIth the Cougar Defense, the game was essentially over in the 1st quarter.
