  1. Had sequatchie not used timeouts torwards the end of the game with the lead they already had, i would have respected that, but using timeouts made it obvious they were trying to score as much as possible.

The timeouts were used to get freshmen into place as Sequatchie said.

It even appeared that the sequatchie offense was trying to get a play off in the 22 seconds they had after receiving the final kickoff, but the clock was running and they couldnt.

Trying to let the starters get to take the knee in the victory formation.

what good did it do to win by 42 instead of 35? did it improve your jv by scoring on a team that has scored maybe 4 touchdowns all year?

Yes it does improve the JV to get playing time. Most of the players on the field were freshmen with a few sophomores. If the situation dictates that they go in then they should be allowed to play with intensity. The QB and all the RBs getting the ball were freshmen. The player that scored the touchdown was a first year player.

Congrats to the Indians and Coach Barger.

  2. the coaching staff my dad always talked about a coach that coached maybe the early 90s im not sure of his name and our coachs always said the coach from 2004 and 05 was really good our coachs said he was hard to talk too but was a really good coach what ever happen to that guy? sequatchie walks threw the region its too easy i got sequatchie 21-6 goodluck

The coaches you are probably talking about are Fritts (Great Coach from the 90's) and Saunders (another good coach from 04-05). Saunders had a really good staff with the likes of Barger, Landon Pickett, and Tim Taylor. He brought in current staff member Nick Mullins, who relates really well to the kids that need it the most and is a great coach in his own right. BJ Armstrong was also a very good coach who brought in current assistant Daniel Terry. This coach does an excellent job with the line.

We have been blessed with good coaches at SC but I think Barger is just one of those guys that can get the most from his players and finds a way to get it done. Barger has brought in one staff member, the DC Mickey Mays. He has impressed everyone in Sequatchie with his bredth of knowledge. One thing Coach Barger has done is get the kids to buy in to his program. I think you will see improvement in Sequatchie Football over the next few years.

  3. I

I really think when Aric zapped Coach Elrod, that he set himself up for failure. That offense worked for them there at WC. They had it fine-tuned and it was very effective. tHE PLAYERS believed in it and Elrod. I think Aric got tired of hearing Elrod getting credit ( even though he deserved it) and decided to take his team back over to prove himself. It didn't work for him at Beech and it isn't working for him now. A great coach adapts his schemes to the players that he has. A great head coach surrounds himself with exceptional assistants and gives them their props. Need I say more?

Elrod is now at Hunters Lane and I think that they will be even tougher than in years past. Elrod has a way of working some magic where ever he is at. I do believe that they are now running the Tony Franklin System which may be a year or two before they start to show any success with that.

  4. No one is saying recruit Tennessee exclusively but when Randall Cobb went to Kentucky I was disappointed. Kid made an impact at UK as a freshman, started three games as wide receiver and four as a QB. Also was the punt returner. I think we better get used to hearing his name, because he sure impressed the heck out of me as a freshman. I don't know the situation on his recruitment but if I were Phil Fulmer I would hope I could land that one considering he lived in K-Town.

  5. I see Possum's point. If there are no kids from Tennessee on the team, I'm not as interested in watching. The years with Eric Westmoreland on the team were the best for me. I never missed a game.

Besides I enjoy watching the teams that do more with less anyway. Service academies top my list, Texas Tech and Boise State are also favorites. No one is saying the team should be exclusively Tennessee players but the state should be represented with more than a player or two, because what players from Tennessee bring is heart and that has been missing the last few years. Great story on heart herehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUq_ig5Wlgk&feature=spotlightNot

  6. Just curious Zone, are you'll just doing a lot of Wing-T stuff out of shotgun or are you'll full on spread with zone blocking and 1 back backfield? I personally like the flexibility of the Wing-T to use a lot of formations. Also is Stone still doing the middle school and how you'll looking there?

  7. K.C. will become an Ambassador in and around Marion-Jasper. They must have some really good looking young studs coming up through the ranks if Colquette wanted to return to the valley to run Marion-Jasper's offense.

I do know that Jasper middle is going to be very tough this year. Possibly one of the best eighth grade groups in years.

  8. Yes the middle school baseball team is a county wide and they are very good and rarley lose either. It would be great if the middle school football was a county wide team. Yeah I believe it would heip a school like dayton and their players if there was a county wide team. I know they have talked about it but never could agree on it.

As a coach in the SVC I have the utmost respect for all the middle school coaches in Rhea County. I think Jerry Cook is one of the best coaches I have ever known, high school or middle school. His teams were always competitive and really pushed other teams to get better. The new coach at SC seems to have picked up right where he left off. /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" Kinney at Rhea Central also does a good job and his teams are competitive and have a good mix of talent. If these two teams were combined to form a single team, it might look good on paper but I don't know how the execution would pan out. Grundy county forms a team like this but they tend to struggle with issues like getting kids out, getting them to practice, and keeping numbers up. The kids, when playing for the school, get a lot of respect from their peers, they just go straight from their last class to practice, the coach is on staff to work with athletes (in most cases), and with it being promoted as a school team there is a lot of inschool promotion; Pep Rallies, Homecoming, Cheerleaders, etc. Right now I believe RC plays Ocoee middle and Lake Forest middle and are competitive. If they combined numbers they would have a far greater pool of players to pull from than most middle schools and although they would be very tough a lot of middle schools that feed 1a schools might find playing a combined Rhea County less than desirable. Besides if you were going to do this you would want to play larger more competitive schools in my opinion.

The benefits of having a sixth, seventh, and eighth grade teams might mean that the kids spend 7 years in a system instead of 4.Kids learn to work together.

I am not saying that it could not be done but it would have to be a well thought out plan, that adressed a multitude of situations. I have a lot of respect for The middle schools in Rhea County.

  9. The new coach is Daniel Tierney from St. Petersberg, FL. He has coaching experience in Florida and Illinois. He seems young, graduating from college in 2000. His last coaching gig was at Osceola High School in Seminole, FL. He coached the D-Line and tight ends.

What about offense and defense anyone knows what he runs? I know the Osceola Kowboys ran what looks like a hybrid wing-t and an odd defense.

If Thacker is the only one helping then how are they going to get more coaches if as was stated earlier they have no teaching positions? Maybe someone at the school with previos experience could help.

  10. That is a great post, didn't know someone from sequatchie had that kind of perspective. I hope that Whitwell finds a good one, but dealing with parents up that way is a different animal all together, i believe. Don't think Coby is going to leave where he is at. He of all people know how the people treat coaches in whitwell. Plus he probably makes a ton more money in georgia.

I think the burning incident was a girls basketball coach, wasn't it........................maybe I am mistaken though.

I don't know anything about someone burning a car, but even if it did happen that person would be a criminal not a fan. Even the coaches at the best programs have their detractors. Grider does a good job at South Pitt year in and year out. Boeck did more last year than most (except Marion football fans) expected, and may have set the bar very high for the rookies this year. Barger improved Sequatchie tremendously last year. The conditions are right for these programs to stay at the top of their game or improve with time, but I could still find a few that will be negative about the coach at each one. They are quite when they are out numbered by the positive. However, one little sign that things are going bad and here they come. I do believe this group is a small percentage, probably way less than 5% but man can they be vocal when given the opportunity.

Until a coach gets in their and is given or takes the time, the situation cannot change. All of the rookies will need time to change things at their respective programs.

Some other names I might suggest or have heard. Heard "Chico" from South Pittsburgh, I don't know who he is but have heard some good things about him from folks down that way. Jerry Cooke at Rhea County. This guy is young and a great competitor. Marion had a veteran staff and one of those guys could help turn the program around.

I look forward to the day when teams from Chattanooga fear all the Valley teams, because I know this Valley produces the best kids in the world.

  11. whitwell would be wise to hire coby holtcamp or let condra take back over

Good suggestion. I think if you look at successful programs they have consistency in their program and I think that a veteran coach that was going to be there would at least make the program competitive. I think both of these guys were around during the 2001 season, the last season I was able to follow Whitwell football, and I was very impressed by the turn around they had made from the late 90's. I still remember watching Whitwell stun Boyd Buchanan at their place. Coby has been in several programs and would bring a new perspective. Condra has been around for a long time and a hiatus may have brought a new perspective. There are several coaches in and around the Valley that could impact the program. Who ever is chosen, I have confidence the administration will make the best decision for Whitwell Football. Remember, glass half full.

After reading this thread I am sure that several more will be on here attacking this one or that one. What I have always tried to figure out is why anyone would want to be a coach. Obviously, everyone knows more than you do and you could win a state championship and not be worthy of respect. You have to compete with playstations, four-wheelers, hunting and fishing, and of course all the other sports for athletes. The federal and state governments are always breathing down your neck. Your family has to not only do without some of the niceties of life, but your wife and little girl get the honor of sitting in the stands and listening to everyone express their opinion of you. Still it seems that dozens of men line up and try to take on this job for no other reason than they love the game of football. That right there alone is enough to earn my respect. I applaud those fans up and down the valley who support their programs and coaches. My hats off to the men who try to make a difference in their programs, Grider, Boeck, the departing Taylor and the incoming HC (whoever it is), our own Barger, and the two rookies Reel and Bryant. May God bless you.

Sorry for the rant, but I am reminded of the reasons I don't visit much.

  12. I tried to tell the Grundy faithful not to get their hopes up. They werent getting what they thought they were getting. I guess my warns fell on deaf ears....till now. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

How have you been CD? With Grundy now in Sequatchie's district along with Bledsoe, and us playing their "middle school" team, I think it breeds a greater level of competition by the time they get in high school. I hope they get a coach that can help their situation at the middle school level. I think that would go a long way in getting kids out and interested in football.

Oh, SCTribe I tried to contact you last summer to schedule a scrimmage, but could not get a hold of you. Would like still like to.

  13. If the game is going to be week 10 I would prefer not to get beat up and suffer a loss right before playoffs. If the game is week 5 I would like to see us play someone from district 8 1a or 2a to give us a barometer to guage ouselves in preparation for the playoffs. A Dekalb County, Livingston Academy, Gordonsville, or Trousdale would all be good in my opinion. Travel would be tough but I believe you would find out real quick where you stood.

Now I know that the above scenario is not realistic just my rathers. I also think we need a home game, preferably week 10. No off week before playoffs.

  14. I've said before that Barger is turning things around and he is doing it right... maybe he can pull some players from the halls to replace those seniors who are leaving.... Personally, I wouldn't count on anything coming from the middle school for a few years... they were not very good this year..... I'm sure Coach B will begin working with that program as well so things should start looking up....

Well the same could have been said about Jasper Middle School the past three years. I believe the last time JMS beat SCMS in the regular season was the year that this year's seniors were eighth graders. Now the game with the group that are juniors was exciting, I wasn't at the game with the group that are sophomores but I heard it was a good one, and last years game was lopsided. /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> I don't doubt that it might have been different this year, but JMS had a better than normal team. I look forward to playing JMS next year.

As far as Coach B. getting involved I believe as time goes he will develop a relationship with the little league and exert more influence over the middle school. Not being at the school really hamstringed Coach from getting more done than he did. Now that he is fulltime SCHS faculty he will be able to accomplish a lot more.

  15. 11 seniors is a pretty good lose, but we all should be in a pretty small district, so that will help all of us........i think there will only be 5 teams in our district...Seq, Bled, Grundy, Chatt.Christian, and Notre Dame....thats what i was told.....

We find out our district for sure this week, but I've heard several different things about it for next year.

Losing 11 seniors hurts but we are getting more players out and after some success I think you will see a few new faces out next year. I've heard kids talk about how they want to play football. Now that Coach Barger is at the school, vs. last years commute, I see him really getting into the halls and getting more players out. I feel like they will improve every year and make strides. Coach definitely has things headed in the right direction, but being at the school this year will have a bigger impact on performance next year. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

  16. if they don't make the districts so big we can't.....its the tssaa.....you never know

Good point Mr. Outsider and you are a smart man, but we are dealing with the TSSAA and they can't figure things out as easily as you seem to have grasped the concept. Anyway I think the main problem with the TSSAA is that they try to make everyone happy and end up making no one happy.

  17. I counted 20 AA schools in the area, from Grundy County all the way over to McMinn Central. I am guessing Tellico Plains might move up to so they can stay with opponents like Polk and Meigs. That's plenty to have 3 districts. I'd say Grundy, Bledsoe, Sequatchie would be in one, the Cleveland-Athens area schools like Polk in another. I don't know if they'd go strictly by school location or try to figure in old rivalries like Brainerd-Howard when putting together another potential district and completing the others. If by location, a very wild guess would have it like this maybe:

First number is playoff class, each would be AA in the regular season.

    3A-Bledsoe Co. High School 542

    3A-Sequatchie Co. High School 681

    3A-Grundy Co. High School 757

    3A-Howard School of Academics & Tech. 695

    4A-Chattanooga Christian School 428 = 770

    3A-Hixson High School 761

    4A-Red Bank High School 981

    3A-Tyner Academy 553

    Collegedale Academy 381 =686

    4A-East Ridge High School 857

    4A-Brainerd High School 906

    4A-Notre Dame High School 507 =913

    4A-East Brainerd 948

    4A-Chattanooga Central High School 1065

    3A-Meigs Co. High School 559

    3A-Polk Co. High School 603

    3A-Sweetwater High School 667

    4A-McMinn Central High School 802

    4A-Sequoyah High School 982

+ possibly Tellico Plains and/or even Loudon if the Knoxville area district is full.

If you are correct Indian, then the only way to revive the Sequatchie Valley Series would be to fill the remaining four spots on the schedule with three valley teams and only one other team. We would need to pick up all three Marion County schools. There would be a good chance of scheduling conflicts and maybe not getting to play an old rivalry like MCHS. Playing Red Bank and CCS should give a team a good idea of how strong they really are.

On the bright side I see more parity in the region when it comes to the playoffs.

  18. This crap in the locker room goes on every where dont think it dont just because you dont hear about it.Im not saying its right. I would just like to know if these parents are so concerned about there kids getting hurt why would they let them strap a helmet on and get out there with older stonger kids and be a tackling dummy.Im not defending anybody, but how much sense does that make? I wish the boys the best friday night, come together as a team and play hard.

I have to agree this is far more prevalent than most admit. Not saying it is right but it is what it is. I would be willing to bet that Bledsoe will not have another issue with this and several coaches in the Chattanooga area have opened their eyes and are more proactive in preventing hazing.

I have a lot of respect for Bledsoe and do not wish them anymore ill will, but I have to take the Indians and support the boys from home.

  19. where is warrior 2024 in history class....kinda like at Cannon County or maybe the head cheese cut his internet.

You are so full of sunshine. Well not really but you are full of something. It is pathetic to get on here and bash a coach anonymously. Get a life, a clue, or a bud light and quit dwelling on a man whom you will never have to see again. I like Coach B, the kids like Coach B, and the community likes Coach B. He will be here for a very long time, which I'm glad, you ain't here, end of story.

  20. Hate to tell you, but many people don't get the jist. I do know that you are stupid if you asked anyone for a copy of their bank account. As a parent of a private school student my bank account is about the most pitiful thing you could look at. You still don't get that jist do you. Keep whining, its funny. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Since some of you don't get the joke let me spell it out for you. The TSSAA has no authority to go into records of the parents of private school students. The only records they can probe are those from the school. Therefore allegations of anyone paying tuition or providing monetary support to a parent, i.e. booster pays tuition for athlete, could not possibly be proven without someone turning themselves in. It really is a moot point because the TSSAA has no intention of fixing anything. Search back through my previous posts before you accuse me of whining.

I don't think that the aforementioned happens very often but I do think it happens rarely just like there are public schools boosters who provide perks for playing, again this is very rare.

The real advantage of the private school is the fact that the parents sell the program for the school. Parent involvement at the privates and a few of the better publics is a huge advantage, but we cannot legislate against it.

  21. Well if Grace is doing anything wrong (and they are not) turn them in. Its a simple thing to do if you have proof that they are cheating then show it or state it instead of just making statements you cant back up. I think your complaint should be with TSSAA not Grace. No one makes any one go to Grace or any other private school, its the parents/ kids choice and I think that is the way the country works.

Knowing something and proving something are two different animals. Last time I asked a parent of a private school for copies of their bank accounts, they commenced to saying and doing some very unChristian like things. Just kidding but you get the jist.

  22. why all ya'll h8tin on us? Coach said it would be like this. Coach said we wouldn't get respect and that we would have to just come out an earn it. I say Dunlap is gonna be sorry they run their mouth. Another thing I have to say is that WE READY!!!!! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Nobody "h8tin" on the Tigers, just stating our opinion. Just believe it is our turn at winning. I will admit you'll are a team that is not to be overlooked. Tim Taylor will have you'll ready to come in and spoil our homecoming. I just think that Coach Barger will not let our boys lose focus and we will win our homecoming.
