1. Very good offense.  Suggestion get with Carson Newman to see how they do it.  They have a great clinic during the winter.

    Good Points:

    1.  Makes agressive defense play responsibility football.

    2.  Hard for the opposition to simulate in one week of preparation.

    3.  Number of plays are few because it is triple option.

    Points for consideration:

    1.  You must completely believe in it and use all practice time toward it.

    2.  There will be 8 in the box unless you spread the formation.

    3.  Your WR's better be excellent blockers.  This will equal TD's.

    4.  IMO you should package the mid-line series with the inside veer.  Very hard

        on defensive personnel.

    5.  Speed option is best run out of a spread formation out of the gun.

    6.  Triple option can also be run from the spread gun formation.

    7.  IMO the best way to run it is the no mesh way that C-N does.

These are just some thoughts.  Carson Newman has the answers.

Very good points. If you have a talented fast qb can be a great offense. Learn to read it instead of predetermined calls and also run the outside veer and read it. inside and outside together are a great threat to any defense.

Thomas County Central (you may remember Charlie Ward of FSU) in south GA has also ran it for the last 30 something years and has about 15 state championships to show for it. Great coaches there and will work with anyone on the system.

  2. Who has the best punter in the state? Lets say for a reasonable average that they must have atleast 10 punts this year. Whats their average and how many yards they punted for?

Beardens Matt Reagan has just under 2000 yards for a 39.8 average on 45+- punts.

  3. Well westTnSportsWriter, you are correct the play he left the game on was a legal tackle (a direct hit to the knee by a helmet), but I'm talking about two illegal chop blocks down field on him from a guard earlier in the game.  Surely you saw those plays too. How do you rationalize that?

    825401235

Its football not golf. Once again the nuetral zone is 3 yard from the ball and 2 past the tackle box. If down field is 20 yards then you might have a point. But it is football if your worried about someone getting hit go and watch soccer or something. I hate the kid got hurt but it happens.

  4. Midway has a great football program but has it come at the expense of other sports? Lets face it, Midway's basketball and baseball teams are not very competetive.

    825401398

What does baseball and basketball have to do with the football program. In every school ive ever been at i have never heard the football coach tell a person that they couldnt play another sport. (basketball players did have to come out after the playoffs)

But usually the basket ball and baseball coaches dont let their players play football because of fall baseball and summer basketball. Unfortunately when a kid is forced to chose between 2 sports both the coaches and the kids lose. I hope this isnt what is happening at midway.

  5. Just trying to see other peoples point of view.  We know what some of the problems are but do we have all the solutions.  Bdog3741 you have been around this program just like me I just want to see some outside advise from people who have been around football and what there take is on our situation.  I want to to know if we are moaning and groaning for nothing or do we have ligitimate complaints.

Ill leave it up to everyone else then.

  6. to be honest, everyone does things differently so this topic is really not a good idea to hash on.

I know where your coming form bulldg75 but he is right. There are as many was to coaching as there is to cooking. You are right the weight program is not adaquet. I think if you ask most players on here most will tell you they lift atleast 3-4 days a week in season unlike us. The Biggest thing wrong with Bearden isnt the offense or the defense, but the total lack of disipline in all areas of the program. Weight room, practice, sunday films (they wait till week 7 to make people start running for missing it) grade enforcement, ect.

The one common characteristic among winning coaches and programs is in the fact that they have disipline in their programs. Disipline is nothing more than doing the LITTLE things right and this is what makes or breaks a program. How the disipline is obtained, there are many many ways of doing this also some holler some scream some mold some nurish but in the end there is disipline and attention to the little things.

This is the area where Bearden lacks and where I as a coach would improve on.

  7. Also an interesting thought bdog.  Might even help level the playing field for schools who are struggling right now, like Bearden.  That goes on the premise that Farragut is stealing lots of Beardens kids though.  That's the only way I know to explain Beardens collapse lately.

    825400829

Bearden's colasp is another story. But it will be interesting to see this new program develop. Truth is though they will probably play a few years of JV before a varisity schedule. so may be next reclassification before anyone has to worry abput it.

  8. South Doyle can play well if they put some effort into it. If they play hard next week will it be enough to knock Sevier Co. out of the plalyoffs? Im hoping for the best. What do you think?

    825400837

If Hutch gets them up and they play like they did against bearden. They can win. Bearden played Sd and Sevier back to back and Sevier co has a good RB, but SD can shut him down.

    GO KEE'S

  9. Sorry to break away from the rebel theme here but imagine 2-3 years from now. Will be a new school next county over. combo of Faragut, karns, and Bearden. Could easily open up as a large 3a but probably a 4a school. When that happens very easily could also drop Far. Karns and Bearden back to 4a. That will affect the region faster than any thing. Thats a senerio to ponder on.

  10. Enough is enough. This is my last post on here. Keep Maynard and Cheer your heart out. But unfortunately in 3 years when this freshman class, (who i agree is very tallented) is still a 2 or 3 win a year team. Dont sit around and think to yourself maybe its the coaching. As soon as you do that everyone else will start to say NO its the tallent.

To all the players best of luck friday night i would Love to see you go out on a high note.

  11. Guys, I'm almost 100% sure that Beardendawg79 isn't who you think he is.  I know him and he has more class and more sense than to come on here blasting away like that.  The real #79 for our team wouldn't, I hope to God, come on here and do this.  I just don't think this is him.  Anyway, good luck Pats.

Beardendawg79, if you aren't who everybody thinks you are, why don't you have the balls to reveal your name to me.  We don't need this crap on here right now.  You mention that you have seen Jeff. Co. on film.  We have yet to see the Jeff. Co, film, you douche.  Tell me your name, you are a problem I would like to take care of.

    825400149

Got to agree with this guy. Kelton I dont believe is stupid enough to come on here and do this crap, it would be very uncharacteristic of every thing ive seen of him. If youll look at the # of post it seems to me that it's someone on your own team trying to pump you guys up. and from the looks of it he's doing a great job of it.

BUT if you guys feel that you must gun for Kelton I feel that, unless you resort to cheap shots (i hope you dont), he will be up to the challenge.

    GO DOGS

  12. If Maynard wants to talk to me one on one Ill be glad to talk to him.

    825398269

Good luck getting in to see him. If your lucky he will tell you wait here a min and then go hide in his office. Seen that this season. As far as changing things, I believe that come friday it is open season for anyone and everyone to voice their opinion not only to Hill and the Principle but call anyone and everyone above their head. Dont hide let everyone know how you feel. If enough people express dissatifaction to enough people and to the right people something will be done.

dont forget there is a county AD. School Board. and certianly dont be afraid for every parent to call the sups office and schedule an appoitment. He dont wont to deal with this stuff and the more we as a group bear down on him the more he will bear down on the people below him to handle the situation.

Next monday there should be as many parents scheduling an appointment with the principle. If she dont take them within a reasonable time call the county ad and schedule one. We as parents can do something if we make it a group effort. Ive seen it done before. but it takes more than 1 or 2 trying.

  13. Hate to say it and i hope im wrong but im afraid that Maynard has made us as bad as he can. Dont see where he can drive Bearden any lower except maybe to lose by 100 to you guys. It really killed me him waiting to run a trick play until we were down 35-0 and then the onside kick sumed it up. At least sevier co did the right thing and put back in the starters after that.

    Wishfull thinking here

    (we'll block their extra point)

  14. That's ridiculous and exactly one of the problems we are having with the team right now.  We are playing for the future and have been ever since the special treatment of the fresh. team started at the beginning of the year.  It is painfully obvious to me and my teammates that this year's class is flat-out spoiled.  And they are not the freaking saviors of Bearden High School football.  These kids need to be brought down to Earth.  I hear a number of FRESHMAN football players, yes, football players, walking the halls of our school trashing our football team.  I even heard one kid talking trash to a JV member of our team saying the freshman team could beat our varsity.  I think these boys need a whippin' from us upperclassmen.  I hope that they get put into drills with us next week.  That would bring them back to reality.

Let me tell you something:  My class(class of 2006) did just as much, if not more, that this year's freshman class did in rec. league ball.  We had more talent.  My Bearden team won the county championship and the CBFO supermidgets that a number of Bearden players played on finished behind a Halls team that was loaded with players that started the very next year at Central.  So don't feed us that talent crap.  We were touted by many as the most talented athletic class ever to enter the doors of Bearden High School and still are.  If we had had more attention and a better coach, as this year's fresh. team did, the sky would have been the limit.

Thats coming from a player. He is exactly right. Last years freshman

1 wasnt allowed to go to camp

2 didnt go in pads until the thursday before the first game

3 coach quit after the first week of season

4 no replacement coach was found so they were shuffled from area to area like a problem child that had to be baby sitted

5 NO varsity coach attended any of their games at all to even know if there was any tallent on the team.

This year the 10 11 and 12 graders are getting the same treatment this year while every attention to the freshman is being tended to.

Anyone who has played name a year where bearden traveled 5 or more freshman to most of their varsity games. Name a year where 2 or more freshman have started.

Bet you struggle to do it. Granted one of the starters is a long snapper who learned to do it somewhere during the 4th week of the year and just so happens to be named Maynard.

I believe the young man above summed it up.

GO DOGS!!!!!! GET RID OF MAYNARD!!!!!!

  15. Napier is our LB/RB.  Slover is our back up QB. Coach Wells puts our LB/RB as QB and not our back up QB..... horrible coaching.  Also, I think our OL and DL needs to learn how to tackle again...

Your best season ever and after loosing to the #1 team in the state you start complaining? No wonder it took you guys 20 something years to have a great season. with people like this it make take 20 more to have another.

Congrats on a great season cougars. keep up the hard work and good luck in the post season.

  16. Maynard has got a hole big enough now to just about stink the entire highschool into it.

This program will not get another dime of my money nor will i lift a finger to help with anything as long as this guy is here. The Boosters need to follow suit and cut the program off untill something changes.

DO THE RIGHT THING AND RESIGN AFTER NEXT WEEKS GAME!

  17. Well tonight was the same story different verse. Sevier over Bearden. Best thing i saw was when we were down 35-0 and threw the half back pass for a TD. then kicked the onsides kick to follow it up with. Did you notice how quick Sevier put their first team back in? Besides why did we wait till we were down 35 to throw the Pass?

Who knows, This program is going down the toilet quickly, Thanks to our great leadership.

A side note. Pickle looked Real good at rb tonight. Stick with it and keep up the good work.

  18. Do you remember when Last years freshmens team started to hit I do.  It was two days before the west game cause they didnt have some sort of equipment.  If im not mistaken i believe the season starts the same time every year.

I got question beside the Colquits what other players from bearden has gone on to play College ball.  Lets Just go back to the start of the Maynard years.

    825395117

ummm it may take me a while to think of one.

  19. My son was on the freshmen team last year and we didnt even have a coach.  Those duties were divided up between different coaches.  I see how different they were treated than this group of freshmen are.  I see and hear things and can put two and two together and can see what is comming down the line.    I just wish I didnt have two more years to put up with this crap.  My youngest son is not as  tallented or as strong as my oldest but he has a lot of heart.  Other schools want him to play for them and I believe Im going to let him go.

    825394040

my kid is also a 10th grader. Not only were the coaches divided to us most of them acted like the freshmen were a pain they had to endure. i have to agree with you if this staff isnt gone my younger son wont play here either.
