  1. LaVergne is south of NashVegas off of I-24, Cookeville is about 80 miles or so east, leaving from LaVergne, get on 840 towards Lebanon/Knoxville, hit 40 East. Should take 1 hr 15 minutes give or take depending on traffic, how you drive etc.
  2. You didn't burst my bubble, I understood that Cookeville's points for/points against in the second half percentage was a little better but I just wanted the original poster to know that LaVergne has been a awesome second half team all year. You are correct though, if LaVergne can get back to basic fundamentals like wrapping up and tackling properly and play like they know they can then this will be an excellent game with LaVergne coming out on top. I am really looking forward to Friday night and hoping the drive back from Cookeville is a happy one. GO WOLVERINES
  3. Think about it though, every school was at this point at some time, "not having the playoff experience". This seems as good as a time as any to add to the experience for the LaVergne team. Even Riverdale was in this position at one point but they gained it quickly. LaVergne will be ready come Friday night and I hope they surprise everyone who is already counting on a Cookeville/WC game in round 2. GO WOLVERINES
  4. I completely agree that is is a misleading stat and the only reason I posted it was because of an earlier post someone had put in. If it was referring to the Ooltewah game only, then I must have misunderstood the post. My apologies if that was the case. I believe that the previous games, stats, win, losses etc. doesn't matter for any of the teams from this point on. This is the playoffs and the playoffs have their on atmosphere and it is basically a new beginning for all the playoff teams. They just don't know for sure how long their "2nd" season will last. I understand about the 2nd and 3rd stringers being put in with a big lead, LaVergne did the same several games as I am sure alot of teams did.
  5. I have to say this is going to be an exciting game. LaVergne takes it in a very close nail biter. LHS by 4. Both teams seem to be pretty tough second half teams, Cookville outscored their opponents (week 3-10) in the second half by 77-31, LHS outscored their opponents in the second half (week 3-10) by the score of 128-68, with half of their opponents being shutout in the second half. I reference this because I seen an earlier post saying Cookville was the best second half team in the state. I would have to disagree, they obviously are pretty good all the way around to finish 9-1 and win their region, but this week starts a whole new "season". I will be in Cookeville Friday afternoon, tailgating and waiting for the kickoff. I hope it is a injury free night for both teams & GOOD LUCK WOLVERINES.
  6. volref, First of all, if that is what your insight is then maybe YOU were watching a different game. HOW can you call a PF on someone when on one particular play, Wallace hands off and the RB is hit immediately by 2 LHS tacklers and dropped, the play is over and the ref standing 3 feet from the ballcarrier throws a flag 2-3 seconds later when ALL the players were walking back to their respective huddles and no shoving etc going on around him. That is when #89 Wright jogged off the field and the ref called a PF. I am not trying to take anything away from Blackman, they played their tails off and did make it a very exciting game. Also, you do not know me so do not talk like you do by saying how terrible of a fan I am, I am very passionate about high school football, especially LaVergne. You are right in the fact that it was a classicfriday night game and I am very glad I was part of it and even happier that LHS prevailed. I am sure LHS was glad that watchfootball and myself were there to help root them on to Victory. Let me know if you ever find a game at any level where someone doesn't voice their opinion about something they thought was below par. If you do some research as well, you will find that 99% of my posts are very positive and fair and a lot of times I will be talking about the opponents. I think the officiating in that game could have been better but it also could have been a lot worse. LHS came away with the win and so now I will say on my end, I am done with this discussion. GO WOLVERINES
  7. CoachFB, I stand corrected, I didn't factor in the tie breaker using the overall record. In my defense, I am kind of new to worrying about the playoff brackets LOL, my son is only a sophmore and it has been 9 years since LaVergne went to the playoffs. Please bear with me, I promise to study up more on the playoff and tiebreaker scenarios. Hopefully I will get the opportunity to worry about the playoff seeds the next few years also.
  8. Does anyone know the status of the Blackman QB? He was carried off on a strecther Friday night and taken away in the ambulance. The paper Sunday morning said he was ok but really sore. What injury did he have exactly? They said a lot of the stuff thay did to him at the field was just precautionary measures. I truly hope he is doing well and is back on the field soon.
  9. First off I would like to give a big thumbs up to the Blackman team AND their fans. Most of the time when a team is 0-8 in the season, you would play heck trying to get more than a few fans out to the game, especially on a chilly night. Blackman fans filled their stands and never quit cheering. The players played their butts off and didn't give up which would have been easy for a lot of people to do when your team is 0-8 and you are down 14-0 halfway through the first quarter. Keep your heads up Blackman and work towards redeeming yourselves next season. In my opinion, (not necessarily that of staff or management), I think a problem that LaVergne has had this season (and this can be a good and bad thing) is that they end up playing at the level of their opponent. They have struggled somewhat with some opponents when I really don't think it should have been as difficult as it for that particular game. On the other hand, they played like they knew how to play in the Riverdale game and made it very interesting. I just hope they play like they know how to play against WC this Friday. I am not going to call the officials biased or anything of the sort, they are human and can and will make mistakes but anyone at that game could tell the officials were either having an off night or just weren't very good at their job. They called probably 5 or 6 personal foul penalties on LHS, 2 were legit as far as I seen for late hits. The others had to have been called for trash talking, I would like to know what the "magic" word is during trash talk that calls for a flag. Both teams were doing it as all teams do, it is part of the game. Also, how did they ever come up with #5 Hicks being down on his TD reception? The officiating was unreal and I do not wish that crew on any team. I will leave it at that. Boy, sometimes it just feels good to vent a little.
  10. If WC and Smyrna loses then Smyrna plays Cookeville, Smyrna has the edge on LaVergne right now because they beat us in week 1. LaVergne needs Lebanon to beat Smyrna and LaVergne needs to beat WC for LaVergne to move up to 2nd seed. If LaVergne beats WC and Smyrna wins also, LaVergne ends up 3rd seed. If LaVergne loses, they end up as 4th seed GO WOLVERINES
  11. LaVergne should end up as 4th seed at worst. I say should because anything can happen these last two weeks, I hope nothing bad happens for LaVergne and that they win out the regular season. If that happens then they will be 3rd seed at worst, and if by some good luck for us, Smyrna were to get beat in one of their last 2 games, then that would put LaVergne as 2nd seed. All the LaVergne players can do is worry about what they can control and that is the Blackman & WC games. If they get help from Lebanon or Oakland then thats just icing on the cake. As far as how deep any team is going to make it into the playoffs, well we all know how sometimes a team that just squeaks into the playoffs can end up being a surprise to everyone. Obviously we will have to wait and see but let's worry about finishing out the regular season first. Good Luck LaVergne
  12. LaVergne should win this one but I do not count on Blackman laying down and giving up. They have had alot of injuries this year and a fruitless season up to this point but think how they would love to be a spoiler in the playoff race. LaVergne MUST NOT look past Blackman and I don't think Coach Thomas and staff will let them do that. Good luck LaVergne.
  13. I am curious as to why the JV games are played the way they are. There is not a kickoff to start the game or after a score. There is no punting on 4th down, if they decide not to go for it, they just turn it over to the other team and the refs move the ball back 30 yards. I can only guess that the coaches don't want to take a chance on some players getting hurt but most of the sophmores and juniors that start varsity don't play jv anyway. In my opinion, I would want these younger guys getting all the experience they could at returning kicks and punts and practice defending those kicks as well. Also, LaVergne has only played 2 jv games this year, the other 2 that were scheduled up to this point cancelled at the last minute ( which turned out to be forfeits because the refs were there and ready for the game). On that tune, I say thank you to Riverdale and Oakland for at least showing up to play your JV games. Can anyone enlighten me as to why they play these games this way and please offer your opinions (like anyone on CoachT needs to be told that LOL) about it. Does anyone else's teams play this format?
  14. I still believe that LaVergne has a good shot at 3rd seed, and like fredsamuel says, if things work out right and LaVergne does all they can do on their end (win last 3) then they will be 2nd seed. This is why we all love football so much, it's getting real interesting in the final weeks. Smyrna has some fairly tough games ahead of them as do all of the teams fighting for position in the playoffs because as we all know, anybody can be beaten. Just think how bad Blackman would love to be a spoiler for a couple of these teams. Good Luck LaVergne
  15. I think LaVergne should end up as 4th seed at worst, hopefully 3rd seed if they can beat WC in the week 10 matchup. If they can win the last 3 games, that would give them the edge over WC by beating them, they could possibly even end up as 2nd seed if Smyrna gets beat 2 more times in the last 3 games and LaVergne wins their last 3. It is going to get real interesting these last few weeks. Smyrna has some tough games ahead, Riverdale, Lebanon and Oakland so anything is possible. LaVergne just needs to play it 1 week at a time and DO NOT look past your next opponent. Good luck Wolverines
  16. LOD, Who is hosting the tailgate party at WC this time?
  17. 82cat, Rick53 is not Mr. Sherrill, I do know who Rick53 is and you are right, he does need to quit worrying about Smyrna and whether they make playoffs or not. At the same time though, it is their cross town rival and you have to admit that the rivalry tension is always there. Sure, La Vergne should have beaten Smyrna this year but they didn't so try again next year or in the playoffs (if the match up happens). Don't forget though, Smyrna does have Riverdale, an Oakland team who is much better than their 1-5 record and Lebanon coming up. La Vergne has a tough Siegel team, a injured but ticked off (imo) Blackman and of course the season finale, WC. I honestly think the WC could be the deal breaker for La Vergne on whether or not they make the playoffs. Of course, that depends on how Siegel, WC & Smyrna finish out their season as well. Like I said in another post yesterday, things are getting more interesting and closer competition for the playoff spots by the week. I would love to see Lebanon win this Friday just because it would help La Vergne out in the regional standings. La Vergne needs to win out their games but a little extra help never hurts.
  18. I think I might just go and watch the WC/Lebanon game, I think it will be a good one to see and I do need my Friday night fix since La Vergne has a bye week. As far as the game between Oakland and Lebanon, it should be a good one as well, I really believe Oakland is alot better than their record shows. I also think Lebanon is starting to come around, they started the year off bad but seem to be picking it up each week. I am not sure where the OHS/LHS game is going to be at but I may have to go with Oakland by giving them the home field advantage. I think at this point it will be that close of a game. La Vergne beat Lebanon this year at "The Den" in La Vergne 24-14.
  19. I have not seen WC play yet this year, I have seen Lebanon play at La Vergne but it also seems that Lebanon has come together more as a team since then. I am still not sure if Lebanon is up to beating WC this year but who knows, it is a county matchup and those can be very intense no matter what each teams records are. I may have to go to this game to see WC play since LHS has a bye week. Good luck to both teams (although it would be nice to see Lebanon win to really mix up the region standings). AHHHH the excitement of the fast approaching playoffs and the Friday night lights with the fall temperatures coming on. You gotta love it.
  20. Rick53, Symrna is actually looking pretty good for the playoffs now because they moved into second place in the region with a win and Wilson Central loss. Smyrna is 3-1 in regional play, WC is now 2-1. LaVergne really needs the W over Siegel next week and in my opinion, LHS needs to win out to be sure to make the playoffs. Of course it all depends on what happens with the rest of the regional games as to whether the WC/LaVergne game in the final week decides if LHS makes the playoffs or not. Of course, I will be at every LHS game (if the good LORD's willing and the creek don't rise) rooting them on for the win. I see things getting more interesting in the region as each week progresses.
  21. I did not attend the game last Friday but it sounded like it was alot closer of a game than the score showed, I think the last Riverdale scor came off of an interception return late in the game if I am correct. I would have liked to have seen it but I was at the La Vergne/Oakland game. Anyway, my question is, does anyone have a better guesstimation of the attendance? I have heard from 5,000 to 7,500 to 15,000 in attendance. I am just curious as to the actual (or close to it) attendance.
  22. 2Priceless, Thanks for the kind words, I try to keep my posts civilized, as hard as it can be sometimes but then again when I have the urge to stoop to a lower level I just don't reply at all. Now, my take on the La Vergne/Oakland game. I think La Vergne players did underestimate the Patriots somewhat, I do believe the coaches tried to keep them from doing that IMO. I also think La Vergne could have played a much better game than they did, the only player, (IMO) that had a good game was Jenkins with 212 rushing yards. A-Rod had an off night as far as passing goes, his accuracy just wasn't there for some reason but I believe he will work his tail off this week and next getting ready for Siegel. Oakland secondary had good coverage most of the time but there were some wide open receivers that were overthrown or lead to much etc. also. I am not sure what happened to the D-line for LHS, normally they don't give up the yardage they did up the middle, it usually happens around end. Now, for Oakland, I have been telling my son for a few weeks that in the Oakland game, they really need to watch out for Youree, he can hurt you with the deep ball quickly and he did, even in double coverage. I did not know until Friday night that Blissard was such a threat, Maybe that was his breakout game, I don't know but he is definitely good. If I remember right, Youree had 123 yards rec. and Blissard had 100 yards. Good night for both. Oakland played their hearts out trying to come back and probably would have tied it had it not been for the interception by Galmish. Oakland is much better than their 1-5 record. This post may souond like I am pro Oakland but believe me, I am not. I just believe in giving credit were credit is due and I am sure I did not mention some players by name that deserve some credit but to cover all bases, credit goes out to all Oakland players for playing until the very end and not giving upand to all La Vergne players for playing hard and preserving the victory. I think I read a post earlier where someone mentioned La Vergne was a first half team then gave up in the second half. They had to be referring to last year because this year La Vergne is the opposite, they play much better in the second half of the game. Anyway, good luck to Oakland the rest of the year and good luck to La Vergne against Siegel on the 14th.
  23. 2Priceless, While I must applaud you for your very motivating and inspirational speech that goes out to the Patriots, in the name of good clean fun competition, I must say this.... GO WOLVERINES Oakland, Welcome to "THE DEN" I hope both teams have a safe game.
  24. Yes, it is scheduled to be on 1450 AM. I will be listening as well while watching the LaVergne-Oakland game. Good luck to both teams.
  25. Prayers going out from Middle Tennessee area in abundance, but it can never be enough for the situation. Be strong with GOD.
