  1. Ur one to talk. you talk as much smack as jaynes. Only he can bc he won state. Im not raggin im just tellin what i think. I respect coniglio and his accomplishments but i dont like how people make excuses. I dont wanna hear about how u fell before the race or how u were sick. Just accept the fact that you cant have the best race of your life everytime u run. Dont make excuses just say u didnt run well.

I can understand that.....but the only time ive talked smack on here is when i was talkin about jaynes....ive never tried to get on here and tell everyone how awsome i am or anything like that but anyways i can see what you're sayin about makin excuses and i dont like it when ppl make excuses either but im not going to say anything to coniglio about it because for 1 how am i supposed to kno about it anyways im not sure if that course is short or not but i have heard that its one of the tougher courses and 2 im not gona say anything to a freshman that has done as much as he has.

  2. josh jaynes will take all the individual events in track we all kno that hes the best runner in AA and can beat most in AAA and DII so thats now straight..and to refer to CC the younger Green was running at state with strep throat..and jordan peters got stung by a bee and had a allergic reaction falling across the finsih line...and this isnt chris, im not even on the CC team im just a fan..but brummit was the top finishing sophmore he will be a contender and ryan had a bad season..he didnt concentrate or fullfill his expectations, but hes guaranteed coach presnell that next yr. will be his yr to own cause if uve seen ryan hes built to be a runner, and has all the talent in the world just needs a little more guts...hes got 2 more yrs to beat u west tn teams..and we should really arrange for u to come run against the cyclones on a real course...no excuses just im sticking up for a team that knows they tanked, they are the only state champions in school history so they and they are already overshadowed by a horrible football team, ur school appreciates the not so popular sports like CC and soccer..which i really respect you for cause i enjoy both..good luck to all ur schools..but lets not act like FRA is 1000 times better than elizabethton...out of 10 races i think fra would win 5 out of ten and EHS taking the other five its a great new rivalry..but ehs has got to step up next yr losing 5 seniors and only havin 3 varsity runners from last yr but they are talkin players from other sports to run...i mean it worked with Chris..ETown is already on the job running at footlocker race in charlotte on saturday good luck guys

  3. lets face it FRA and lipscomb both belong in private schools...thats why they own every sport in aa cause every aa school in the state doesnt go lookin for athletes...academic scholarships o whats the difference..elizabethton is the best aa cross coutnry team with or without fra..so one race fra comes out on top...elizabethtons runners tanked...josh and chris where the only ones who did their jobs..and the 7th man finished ite in me all steter can run with the in the state..etowns program is just gettin started...a dynasty is in the making to topple over FRAs congratulations to u private schools for beatin us at state but the better team dossnt always come out on top...come race us in east tenn. everybody knows u have the advantage of racing that course...1000 times every year its 10 minutes from ur campus..u wouldnt stand a chance in the hills of eastern Tenn...look for a 1,2 finish with green and brummit next year...ryan tanked this year but hes got the potential to be a individual champion....thats how it is

  4. This thread reads more like a Terrell Owen or Dennis Rodman press conference than a cross country discussion. This kind of trash talking and bragging doesn't belong in high school sports. It belongs in professional "wrestlin".

I've got a pretty good idea that Coach Presnell would be embarrassed and disappointed by what some Etown people have posted. He has always been a first class guy. I don't know FRA's xxtry coach that well, but I do know that Coach Tucker would be angry if any of his distance runners participated in this trash. Coach Tucker is a humble man who would hate this lack of class.

I always thought if you did it on the track (or xxtry course), there was no need to talk about it. I guess that the negative influences of a few loud mouth pro athletes has crossed over into cross country.

I always thought distance runners were a higher class bunch of athletes. I guess this proves that there are a few bad apples in even the most honorable of sports.

coach presnell would be disapointed which is one reason i havent been trying to argue w/ anyone as much in my last few posts....in my last one i wasnt trying to brag or rag on anyone it was just a simple statement.

  5. That is absolutely rediculous. The ones online...the slower times...are the real ones. You are lying if you think Steeplechas is easy. I cant name one person who pr'd in the entire a/aa boys race. If it was sooooo easy chris than why didnt you run a personal record. All yall east tennessee runners are just mad because you underestimated steeple and it raped you.

actually i really thought the faster times were the right ones but everyone else disagrees so i guess i was wrong there but you cant rly say that steeplechase raped us....im not rly sure why you're goin all irade about this, speaking of rediculous thats rediculous....but if the slower times are right (which i think they are) then i didnt run a pr but the wind did have A LOT of effect in it. i mean just look at the times from DII and AAA their times are all slower than they should be also....if you would come to daniel boone's course i think you would prolly understand what we mean by the east tn courses being so tough.

  6. I dont think jj wouldve run much faster. i mean he had someone pushing him pretty much all but the last 800m. he might have been able 2 go 10 seconds faster at best

yeh im not rly sure of how much faster jaynes would have run w/ more competition it might be a lot but we'll never rly kno....but i still think that the A-AA schools would get killed by the rest because we (etown) raced the teams from AAA that came in 5th and 6th (Science Hill and Daniel Boone) and we beat daniel boone only once ....they beat us about 2-3 times and science hill beat us the only time we raced them.....so i think FRA and etown would have made a top 10 finish at best because you have to add all of the DII teams as well....so i think its probably better off the way things are right now.

  7. then I think I am right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When they came by I was standing on the awards poduim and the FRA runner was leading the guy that eventually came in first....I know what I saw....guess you saw it, because even you said he led the race. the guy with the big mouth is the one who said he led the entire race........and it is virtually impossible for anyone to watch the "WHOLE" Race....perhaps you were up in the Steeplechase stands?

actually my dad was in the stands but i did say that rodewald passed jaynes for 5-10 sec but still jaynes basically led the whole race is what im sayin.

  8. what are some of the times on these courses? other than the one course already mentioned in detail

I know that steplechase is not a 'hard course' as in it has no large (named) hills in it, but it is surpriseingly tough, especially mentally, for how flat it seems. Then again, ive done little raceing in East TN, what do you gues think of steeple?

After running on the east tn courses the steeplechase seemed like nothing....im still not sure of the official times on sat. because they kept flipping them around but they one i heard about three times by friends who were keepin their watches goin was the one announced aloud....if this one is correct then for the past two years every single one of our guys has hit their pr at this course.....and im not just talking about a pr by a few seconds im saying like 30-40 seconds....last year our #1 man hit a pr by 1 min. 2secs....so i believe that the east tn courses are toughest.

  9. We should just get rid of all the divisions and have one meet. Whoever wins would be the undisputed champion of it all.

Maybe for fun but not for the actual championship race....because we all kno that the A-AA guys would get stomped.

As for Trent Dilfer no one no one ever was ragging on the FRA guys we all know that they have a great dynasty going on....but etown doesnt get this kind of thing very often and thats why they were commending us.

  10. in my last post i was congradulateing janes after all the crap he got, i do agree that the team win is more important, but it seemed that he was gettin too much trash, even though he is extreamly arrogant, it doesn't mean that i dont have to act the same way he does

by the way, the wind affected the race a lot more than I expected it too, are their any other factors that could have lead to the slow times that resulted? it seemed that the taller runners were hit hardest by the wind, but i still thought that the times could have been faster.

as you could probably tell the officials were havin trouble getting the correct times, they changed them back and forth several times....however i have a few friends that were keeping the times on there own watches and say that the faster times that were posted were actually the right ones....that would put jaynes back up to a 15:33 and the rest of the racers times obviously being faster too....but other than the wind i cant think of anything that would have slowed anyone down.

  11. Another lie...I watched the race...you won...you did not lead the whole race......grow up, get some humilty...from reading your insipid comments I learned that what I saw was a pitiful loser of a human being cross the line first.....so sad!

and actually you must not have watched the whole race jaynes led the entire thing except for about 5 sec. w/ 1200 to go when russel passed him but then jaynes passed him right back and drilled him.....thats the only time in the entire race that jaynes didnt lead.

  12. Yeah, i bet i will. You know, because Sorrell beat Jaynes by a minute. But i guess that doesn't mean he was better.

we all know that sorrell's time was better than jaynes' but you also know what the coach meant when he said who the fastest man on that course was.....someday you're gona have to accept the fact that jaynes is better than you'll ever be....no he didnt lead his team to a state title but he did all he could.....i just dont see how all of you are goin to diss on him when he won the whole race....theres absolutley no more that he could have done.

  13. Nothing is worth being self-absorbed and immature. The only thing you have is a team that probably talks about you behind your back, because they wouldn't want to mess with a par'ful black man. All you do is run your mouth, your not even that good. Yeah, you won state, in the slowest time in about the last 10 years. Be proud of that. History remembers teams and legendary runner like Bumbi. And i gotta tell you, you're no Bumbi. You're not even an Austin Weaver, the best FRA runner ever. A three time CC individual state champion, 10 times the runner you are. So be proud of your worst win ever. And you can talk all kinds of crap about beating me, an FRA runner, or CCS guy, because FRA got the freaking rings.

ok thats where im gona have to tell you to shut up....i run three for etown and i can tell you that we're sure as heck not talkin behind jaynes' back.....why would we i mean he did ever little thing he could...if he would have run it in 2min. it wouldnt have mattered as far as the score went so dont go talkin bout other ppl on jaynes' team when you dont even kno what they're doin hes prolly the best teammate ive ever had.....not only does he get us fired up and focused but he wins for us so just shut up when you have no idea what you're talkin about....and how are you gona say FRA's #1 man is a good teammate....he was right w/ jaynes w/ like 800 to go and Jaynes gapped him by 13 sec. and he prolly wasn't even tryin i saw him stop on his kick for a cig. so just shut up.

  14. not running harldy at all for a couple weeks and going from 14 miles a day to zilch is going to make me continue to improve like your teammate? i'm taking a different route than normal and do not have the opportunity to try and peak with training. i'm not trying to make excuses though. other runners have gone through and are going through things ten times worse than this. look at ryan sheridan (a soph who made it to FL Nat's then couldn't run for a year with internal problems and injuries). believe me, i'm gonna go all out. look at the physiological aspects and adaptations lost after just 7-10 days off and it stinks, but those are if you are not exercising at all and i have been on the elliptical and the bike (so you're right there). but, simply running through pain (and being able to run and do workouts) is a lot different than not being able to run. tendonitis is not the same in different areas. some tendonitis you can run through and still do well and not run with a different gait. do your research on anterior tibial tendonitis...it can knock guys out for half a year or more and can ruin your career if you take it lightly. you can't run normally because each time your foot hits the ground it hurts and shakes. if you run through too much pain, the next step is a stress fracture.

when i ran that 15:16 though, it was off a 93 mile week and lower iron. I wish i could have had taken the next step (speed and taper) with a period of good speedwork, but I do trust my fitness and will not use this as an excuse. it's been a good season and i hope it gets better. just because my name is todd or whatever you said does not mean that i'm invincible and can take a couple weeks off and still run the same. are you saying if i had a stress fracture or mono i'd have no excuse to slow down? i don't get it. i will say that i've been fortunate to be able to run a few times in the past couple of weeks and been able to cross train without pain for 2 hours or so a day. however you look at it, though, everyone was 45-50 seconds closer to me than usual on thursday and i should have been under 15. i will have to run much better next week if i want to do well. FL is iffy right now...i will only run if i can get back to training this week.

good luck to you as well next week...you guys can take it all and i'm rooting for you.

I'm not sayin you're "invinsible" im just saying dont use it as an excuse. You're a great runner and im not trying to take anything away from you but just use it as an excuse although i do kno that it is given you a lot of trouble.

Good luck to you in the next few weeks.

  15. woah there! if im correct elizabethons 2 man is last years runner -up individually i think his names adam green...lets not throw him out of contention for the win or a repeat at runner up..that will boost the cyclones team score as well with a tough three-six men

  16. thanks for the confidence, but i've missed two weeks with tendonitis and have run sparingly...yesterday was painful and my first goal is to get healthy for state and FL...yes, it's my senior year and my last shot (and my first shot with my iron up) at state and FL, but this type of injury can last a long time if not corrected. i would have loved to seen what i could do off three weeks of good training before state (esp. dropping from 90 per week to much less) so it stinks--but oh well, nothing i can do about it. good luck to all next week!

Tendonitis is no excuse, someone on my team has had it for the past four weeks and yes its painful for him but his times have still been improving. Everyone knows who it is when they hear Todd Smalling and they know that there is no excuse for him to slow down. So just go out and run as hard as you can (no excuses) But good luck to you at state and in FL.

  17. Timbdp is a heritage hater. If a person rips a school based on their cross-country team, they need to get a life.

The boy's team has made it to the state the last two years in a row and still haven't graduated anyone. They're not the best in the state but they compete very well in the mid-state.

I know nothing about WH but i would like to point out that it isnt hard to make it to state

  18. I'm pretty sure this is a Cross Country Thread as well... who cares about football... anyways everyone knows Weston Jeffers is the best ever!

Weston jeffers doesnt compare to these guys.... he doesnt even start Preston Smith of etown is a good junior QB but still no comparison
