  1. I was trying to figure out who in town would be stupid enough to come up with the things you said and try to validate it by throwing in a D-1 comment. Then it hit me.....My grandson and I laughed for thirty min. when we figured it out. You need to have another donut and go away.

please justify your statement because im trying to see what is stupid. I didnt agree with his play in the game. I never said anything about him being a bad coach or disrespected the team. Its stupid old people like you that think that a just because im a person from outside your circle of know it alls you have the right to disrespect anyone with an opinion. My final comment on this page will be that I think those boys deserve the upmost respect and credit for the way they played. Coach did a great job on getting them ready and improved the special teams greatly. Still doesnt change the fact that any one that knows football would have lined up and beat them the way that worked all night, not a trick play. I do think these guys will go far into state. Good luck next week guys.

Huntingdon was on their own 35 yard line with roughly 1 min left in the game. Not sure but think they had one TO left. Holder by all accounts has the strongest arm on the team, I think at one time there were plans for him to play qb. He was throwing to our best receiver, thompson, and from my vantage point thompson was behind the safety.Looked like the same play he ran in the state championship game from Donald to Weathers. If coach had chosen to beat them as you say as he had done all night he would have ran the ball down their throats. Unlikely to happen with one min. left. Coach knows his boys and I sure wouldn't second guess his knowledge of offense.

  2. I only cuss kids if they need it. Ex: When I tell my son to get up in the morning to go to school I get a 50/50 chance of his immediate attention. But when I add " Get your _____ up!" I get immediate results. I have a doctorate so I don't consider myself weakminded. But that is also the language of the "lovey dovey" generation thus I take no offense to your peace, love, dope attitude. I would never cuss your kids unless they needed it. :roflolk:

  3. I think this whole thread is just an extension of our society taking on and being force fed liberal views. The whole "I don't want my boy cussed", "don't use profanity around my boy", "cussing is bad". etc, etc.

is just a sign of the times. Daddy's and Moma's making sure junior doesn't get his little feeling hurt because hearing a cuss word might scar him. Its these same parents who "reason" with their kids instead of demanding they follow rules. Its the same parents who don't spank their kids because it hurts, they give time out instead. I don't have a problem with any coach using a little language to get their point accross. In a soft society maybe we need some people to be a little hard.

  4. Spring football should not even be a consideration if the kid is still on the track team. That is the real problem here. Of course the kid is having academic problems if he is on the track team and then having to to go to preseason practice for football.

You need to see the principal and the BOE to get this joke of a coach ran out of town. His behavior and attitude are pathetic.

What? Did you read the previous posts from poindexter at all?

  5. Here's the word on Goodpasture. Their coach is an arrogant !*!*!*! . They stockpile players whom will sit out a year to get eligible then play the following year. They mainly go out and try to get running backs because otherwise they would be too much like they were in the mid 90's which is to slow to win big games these days. I'd say we can all expect this trend to continue if not worsten. After taking their beatdown from Alcoa a couple years ago, David goes out and gets him a few more athletes, even at receiver. They take yet anoter beatdown and so the trend will continue. Of course the cougar faithful dispute these accusations, claiming the young athletes have been a GP since first grade etc. They will even go as far as to call others jealous and proclaim the superior knowledge of their coaches that thusly earns them victories on the gridiron. This in turn allows them to use a quasi "us vs. the world" mentality. Which is eerily similar to rich kids dressing like bums in an attempt to look normal.

  6. Read the post greasers. If the kid is struggling with his grades it didn't happen overnight. He should have gotten that stuff taken care of early in the semester instead of waiting to use it as an excuse to get out of spring ball. Hey, maybe the kid just wants to quit football and needed an excuse. You guys can use that "get my grades up"crap on somebody who will listen, and evidently his coach ain't one of them. And yes, I do think football is the king and should take priority. I don't condone quitting a sport in the middle of the season so you can go to spring practice but thats not what this is about anyway. This is about a kid who ran track with bad grades then decided to lay out of spring practice to get his grades up. /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" Oh, yea...congratulations on getting messages to all the proper authorities poindexter. I'm sure that will fix it.

  7. Thanks warrior and rhea co. Here is what I am dealing with, and this is not my kid, but a kid that I know very well. (lets just put it that way)

Strength and Conditioning has been going on all off season. The kid has been attending, and has not missed a session. Kid is also running track, so there are days where workouts are doubled.

Spring ball is going. Kid is participating in both track and spring ball. Football practices go from 3pm-6:30, sometimes 7pm. The kid has been diligent. He is likeable. He is hardworking. I am not in those practices, but other kids who are have told me that this kid has been working his tail off and is a great teammate.

The kid went to his coach (assist coach has been running spring ball) and told him that he is having some trouble with classes, asked if there was a way he could get a break to get his grades up. Coach went all "toughguy" with the kid (I have 2 independent witnesses) and it came down to "practice or quit". The kid quit. It was the right thing to do, because grades are more important than sports, but I do not understand how it comes to this.

I have played a lot of football. I have coached a lot of football. I coached at a school where football was life. It was everything. But grades always came first.

I dont get it. Is this team so desperate to prove that it isnt a failure that they are willing to sacrafice kids futures in the process?

I will be in contact with the schools principal later today. I just wanted to check to see if I was that far out from reality on this one.

    Thanks.

I'm with the coach on this one. The kid should have thought about his grades way before April. Now he wants to pretend he's going to "study real hard and get his grades up" /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" while the rest of the team goes out and works their can off. So we are to assume that while the 2or 3 hour practice going on he is going to be locked in his room smothered in academia, learning in 10 days what his tail should have been doing all year. Its rediculous. The truth be known he will probably be burning up the road if he can drive or sitting at home playing video games. I guess i'm too much of a realist. If the son of a gun is too lazy to get his grades up during the year then why lie to ourselves and believe he will do it now. Just let the old boy squeak by and play football. I doubt it sacrifices his future. What the kid should have done was quit track early in the year. It would have been much less painful on his teammates who are depending on his services in football. Looks like he chose track over football, which is fine. But don't take it out on the coach. Maybe he lives in a reality where you make your choices and live with them. I applaud the coach for standing up to a society that believes everyone is entitled to something. That no one should ever be let down or feel bad. That you are responsible for yourself and mommy and daddy aren't always going to be there for you and rub your boo boo and make it all better. The young man learned a valuable lesson. One that will help him later on in life when he becomes president because he got to study a little more and get his grades up during spring practice.

  8. great post if only more people thought like that i personally thought the better team won but all of us know that when these 2 teams meat its never the way it should be on paper we split in 2004 and yall had the better team by far i thought for sure we would get blown out both times some people just cant get that much of a grip on reality i guess

I've known coach since he moved here and i'll promise you haitis would freeze over before he would let his players think a team is better than them. And he sure as heck wouldn't quote it to the jackson sun. You guys must be liberals. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

  9. Actually if you look at my posts the only thing I missed on was the high scoring affair. It was a very close game. 7-0 at the half. All 3 Wayne County scores came after turnovers by Waverly, once again, I said if that happened it would benefit the team that received them. Coach Graves/Waverly held out Waverly's starting running back mid first quarter on because of cramps to avoid further injury since it was non region game. He had 26 yards on 4 carries up to that point. He told me he did that after the game. Coach Rice from Wayne County was very impressed by Waverly. He told me so after the game. He had nothing but compliments for Waverly. He and I go back a long way.

Wayne County was the better team tonight. Excellent line play and Rice didn't disappoint as he created a lot of plays himself. Good luck to Wayne County the rest of the year. Gotgame, getgone!

Couple of things here.....Since when did recovering a fumble not benefit the team that received it? It is customary for the teams coach who won to praise the team he just kicked the crap out of. And last but not least....I have never seen a kid have cramps that lasted three and a half quarters nor have I seen a coach hold a kid out for cramps that long even in practice let alone a season opener. When your a sorry team you sure as heck don't need your stud rb being held out for cramps. I love you man. If you were on the bill o'reily show you'd be raped.

  10. The wing T is a great offense. At Lancaster Christian, we run the Double Wing. It's more old fashioned and boring than the wing T. These offenses are time tested and proven. If you don't think these offenses can win in 5A don't tell Clovis East in California. You guys should check them out on YouTube. They are beating schools that have as many as 10 division 1 prospects each. This is big time 5A California football and Coach Tim Murphy is getting it done with the Double Wing Double Tight Offense. He even took his team down to Midland Lee, Texas and beat their spread with this old, ugly offense. It's based on double teams, multiple pullers, and of course misdirection. These offenses aren't popular today but they can be very effective when the details are properly coached. God Bless

    Coach

I have heard our head coach talk about clovis east and tim murphy. I believe this may be the version of the wing t we will be running. Looked like it in the spring. VERY VERY physical style of play.

  11. His retirement starts at the end of next football season is what he is telling his neighbors over in C- Town.

Probably has enough sick days to retire a year early. I'm expecting a big announcement the first part of january /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

  12. I also respect your opinion...but let me give you some examples of what I'm talking about. Let's take Camden...as rcombs said..a perennial bottom feeder in AA for many years. Coach Ward comes in 2003...the Lions have a 6-5 season, go to the playoffs and almost upset #1 Lewis co as a #4 seed. Next season, Quarterfinals with 11-2 record and their only losses to the defending state champ Mustangs....next season after graduating a large senior class, Quarterfinal appearance...2006 region champ, ...etc...etc... to what the Lions are today...a contender respected by all comers. Do you really think that that happened on some strange coincidence? We have graduated at least 12 and as many as 15 seniors every year since 2003 and there has been no drop off. We actually had a time between 2003 and 2005 were we had LESS students than in 2003 so it can't be that. We have little to no industry in this county and what we did have way back during the cellar dwellar years has dried up and blown away. So what is it that changed Camden football for good? (I hope) Great coaching...which brought about community and business support. It was all coaching with a capital C.

Look what has happened to Bruceton since Sturdivant stepped down...for that matter don't you think Huntingdon football changed when Eric Swenson left town? Look at Dyer co a new coach...a new system that fits their players strengths and they are suddenly region champs....sounds mighty familiar to me (see above paragraph for reminders) Even McKenzie...they dropped down to where they should be because of population, play a system that fits their strengths and hides their weaknesses and they are in the hunt every year. I think when Huntingdon drops down where they should be they will also be in the hunt.

I just don't see how you can't see the nose right in front of your face...coaching has changed things either for the better with some teams or the worse for some of the unlucky ones. The one good thing for West TN is that there seems to be alot more great coaches instead of a bunch of good/mediocre ones just drawing their supplement.

I agee with much of what is in this post. One coach can make alot of difference in a program. For years here in huntingdon we have had great coaches, great players, community support, etc. etc. etc. I always like to go back and look to see when a team excelled and then I like to see what the "x" factor was that caused it. Here we've been blessed with much athleticism, support, and all that good stuff so thats a push. So then it comes down to coaching and that tells the story for me, bottom line.

  13. I guess this is what would be expected of a group around Memphis.....big talk!!! You must be crazy if you think Peabody will beat Goodpasture. I don't know if you realize, but GP and Alcoa rule TN AA football. Peabody has two players that will have to try and outscore a stable of offensive players from GP. Out of the six backs in the rotation, there are 3 that are better than any of the Mr. Football finalist. Martin runs his offense with no one star. You will see two stud fullbacks and 4 of the fastest HB's in high-school football. They will wear you down chasing them all night. Then once you try and contain, the two fullbacks will punish your defense. Then just when you think you have them contained the QB will burn you. GP could and should have beaten Camden by 3 TD's. With the exception of 3 teams GP played this year, they were by far the worst. Their Mr. Football finalist couldn't hold the jockstap of GP's linebacker/FB, Arron Gillespie. Believe it, GP will put a beatdown on Peabody...45-12. By the way, didn't Camden beat Peabody?

My question is this? Did all those runningbacks for GP play middle school football for GP? Or were those the ones who were redshirted in 05 when we (huntingdon) played you guys?

  14. I stated this same opinion either on this topic or another and I was bashed by Hickman County fans. That is the key to succeeding in 2A football is your non-region schedule. If you want to compete for state championships and the privates you have to schedule up. Even Alcoa does it. They play the likes of McCallie, Fulton, and other top schools from other classifications. I know CPA is always looking for games within their own classification, so Hickman wouldn't have a problem scheduling them. All they have to do is pick up the phone.

Like was stated earlier Camden learned their lesson in dealing with the privates from Nashville. Will Hickman Co. do the same or will they stay like Lewis Co. who won't take those 1A teams off their schedule? We see where that has gotten the Panthers.

Another note to Bulldog fans, getting to the 3rd round won't always be that easy. This year the quadrant system payed off for you guys and Lewis Co. having GP and CPA play each other in the first round. That won't be the case every year, just the way it fell this year.

Sorry buts here is how it works. Once your program gets established and you start winning you can no longer get cupcakes to play you. Lewis Co. is the exception but they do play two top tier 1A schools. Ex: At Huntingdon in the early nineties we played halls and south fultion. Once we started winning and going to the semi's n a regular basis they dropped us and we picked up a different team. Usually a tougher team because when your kicking tail nobody wants to play you but the good teams. I suspect this is what happened to camden. This was not some planned way to develop their kids into private beating machines.

  15. Swenson is in an area where he could go 3-5A. He may come home but I agree with LU, he may find another rebuilder or he may surprise everybody and stay where he's at. You can check the record where he's been since he started and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out. HC was the ultimate test. Test passed.

  16. shhhhhhh Yall be quite now coach swenson is trying to come up with a qame plan to slow down the speed of the Cougars /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

I wouldn't laugh. The force is strong with this one. Through jedi mind tricks and the powers of the dark side your backs will all run 5.0 flat 40 times and fumble the ball for no apparent reason. /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

  17. 4way; those folks you were talking to were deluded. I know Hickman has continued to improve this season and Coach Swenson is a great coach. However, having seen Camden twice and Hickman once in person and both teams on nurmerous films. The only place that Hickman can compare to Camden is speed in the backfield. Camden actually has a functional passing attack. So that shouldn't be an argument on how HC will stack up with GP. If you want to go that route you could say that since Fairview held Camden to 14 points and GP gave up 24 that Fairview has better defense. we all know that not to be the case.

I know Swenson and his staff will have the boys from ALL of Hickman ready. They better play like there is no tomorrow, because in all honesty there won't be. Earn respect from the rest of the state, myself included, who expect you to get blown out.

    GP - 42

    HC - 14

(GP is 4 TDs better than HC, could have put 28-0 but I know Sowell and Villareal are good for 2)

For the record, GP didn't squeak by Camden. Coach Martin actually executed a really classy move(I'll wait as you gasp in shock) he kneelt the time out from inside the 5 rather than punch in the final TD. Though they were behind at half and the majority of the game, they were not rattled. The feel from GP was not "are we going to win" it was a foregone conclusion to them. and their stud Cunningham got like 8-9 carries, they were spreading the ball around. Had he got the carries he should have they would have decimated Camden. They are freakin GOOD! and if I wasn't going out of town I would be there in Madison watching that freak Cunningham run all over the Hickman Defense.

I mean no offense, as I know this will be taken, but this is my assessment. and I approved this message.

Yes, I am sure he will have all the athletes from that hotbed of talent in hickman county ready. Just as David Martin will have his athletes from Nashville and several surrounding counties fired up and ready. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

  18. Thank you. Camden experienced what the 2A privates bring playoff time last year, and they knew they had to get better. So they went out and scheduled one of the toughest non-region schedules around. It paid off as they almost upset Goodpasture. They closed that gap with tough non-region scheduling. That is the only way the publics stand a chance against the private schools in Middle TN. However, Hickman Co. fans find that hard to believe. I guess they will find out come Friday.

I think this entire quadrant got lucky CPA was knocked off by GP, because CPA is more of a mismatch for all these teams compared to GP, who runs the ball well. This GP team is not as great up front as the past two years, but there skill position players are probably the best in 2A besides that one school who has 3 straight gold balls.

Here we go again with Gerry "tough schedule" Bertier. /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" Dad told you last week that HC would win. . Dad is telling you that HC will beat GP. Let me explain.... You see men, HC is not the same style of football that Camden or Lewis Co.plays. They are going to go right at GP with a smashmouth style reminisent of the early age of football. A style that was forged over many years in 4A football getting their tales kicked. This was the best thing that could happen for 2A football in the west tn. bracket. Hickman Co. ,unlike others, will not be intimidated. Why would they? For 4 years they've played faster and better competition than camden or LC combined. Regardless of what happens HC will beat GP to a pulp physically and win or lose the next fellow will reap the reward. I've predicted this matchup since week zero, i'm gonna stick with my guns. Steady boys, steady. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

  19. I know what I am talking about. HC did not play the same caliber of opponents as did GP. GP just got done playing CPA two weeks in a row, and CPA is 2 TDs better than anyone on Lewis or Hickman Co. schedule easily. Marshall and Lawrence Co. are not all that impressive compared to the teams on GP and CPA's schedule.

Go look at GP and CPA's schedule and tell me honestly that it is comparable to Lewis or Hickman Co. GP year in and year out plays tough opponents. That is why they have the program they do, same with CPA. If Hickman, Lewis or any other public school wants to get to that level. Pick up the phone and schedule some tough teams. CPA is always looking for games. But I doubt Lewis or Hickman would go for that.

Wow, how didn't we all think of this. So what your saying is that if red boiling springs would get out of that 1A region and challenge a few big boys there program would improve and be able to beat trousdale. And you are also implying that by GP playing better teams their players have become genetically enhanced over a period of time, allowing them to have superior size and stregth, almost like the Russians who live in the outer most northern climates. I see now. GP hasn't got the cream of the crop in north nashville where there school is conveniently located near those of hunters lane, maplewood, etc. They developed that size and speed by genetically enhancing their athletes due to extreme conditions..i.e. tough games. /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> They don't stockpile players every year, they simply have built their players like a callice on the hand of the carpenter. Mr. Miagigo is their trainer, wax on wax off, sand the flool Danielson!

  20. If H-town wasn't playing Milan I would be there 3 hours before kickoff. My prediction....HC wins but it will be close. After talking to a couple of H-town folks at the last LCvsHC contest I came away with the conclusion that both teams were very evenly matched with all scores coming from turnovers. Its tough to beat a good team twice and i'm going to stick with my prediction that HC is the team to beat on this side of the bracket. The winner of this one defeats GP and plays milan for a chance to go to the big game. I think your looking at two of the top 5 2A teams in the state in this matchup.

  21. He left to become a head coach. Those are not my words, but his.

Exactly. HC was one of the worst programs in the state. Nobody would touch it with a ten foot pole. Gotta love it for those kids to get to experience a season like they've had and it will only get better. This is what high school football is all about. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

  22. You folks can deny it. But Hickman Co. is a very good football team. In public middle tn. HC and Lewis Co. are the cream of the crop. There is no -one close and either could advance well into the playoffs. Both are very similar styles which is run run run. Teams like waverly have to pass and thats not a good thing. Waverly would do well to copy these teams in their efforts of trying to field a competitive program.
