1. what has mccallie done that makes them a state powehouse this year? Who have they played? LFO? Braircrest? i mean really im not saying that Powell has beaten anyone either what im saying is that this is probably the first real test for either team this season. And what has watts done that makes u guys so down on him....? I'm not saying that i disagree with what ur saying i just wanna know why ur so down on a kid who has played great over the past two years. At any rate i refuse to predict that powell will win this game but i will say its going to be a lot closer then u guys think

Briarcrest is a better team than Powell.

  2. i was thinkin more like powell isnt the one talkin crap is mcallie players and dont say that mcallie has established themselves as a powerhouse because one day that powerhouse will be humbled maybe not by powell but 1 day u will so just watch what u say

    Whatever you say. <_<

  3. I think that Boyd is capable of beating Baylor and will beat them. I believe that the defense will step up and play a very good game against Baylors offense. I think that Weston Perry will have a good game and really show up to play. It will be a close game, but I think Boyd will show up to play and win.

I'd love to see it happen, but it all sounds like wishful thinking to me.

  4. Brainerd is pretty good, they do hit...didn't seem lazy to me

Maybe they've improved somewhat since the scrimmage I watched, but, like I said, I saw nothing from them at that time. They looked like they had never played football before. I'm not trying to bash them; I have nothing against Brainerd, but they did look pathetic when I saw them. I don't know, maybe they're a little bit better, but Tyner still rolls in this one.

  5. Actually the divorce rate for football coaches is almost 75%.  Compared with lawyers 64% doctors 59% and truck drivers 42%.  All professions where they spend a lot of time away from home.  I think mustang has a point that coaches spend a lot of time away from their families.  I'm not saying if it is necessary or not just that they do.

What is the URL of the website where I can find these stats?

If you got them from a published source, what is the catalog number?

  6. I apologize, you only wasted 7-8 minutes of your life on that post.  Time well spent!!!

    825742770

How I spend my time should be of no concern to you-through hard work I have earned the right to do what I please with my free time, be it spend a few mintues here-and-there throughout the day on Coacht, talking football or what-have-you. As for you, are you out of valid arguments? Or just stalling while you think? Whatever the case, I will again say, in case you missed it the first time, if that's all you can say, I would suggest that you are the one wasting your time.

  7. So....you just spent 15 minutes typing that reply to someone you don't even know on a coacht board and I need mental help?!!  It's no wonder it takes you so long to teach something as simple as football.

    BTW: I'm not a parent.

    825742737

If that's all you have to say then I suggest you stop posting in this topic; you're only making more of a fool out of yourself.

BTW: Check the post times; that took me about 5 minutes to write and 2-3 to read and edit. And, also, I was serious about you seeking help. I mean, read what you wrote.

I'll be happy to live in my fantasy world,  it's probsbly much better than your reality!!!

  8. So let me get this straight....I'm being called an idiot by people who neglect their families and who can't do their jobs in a reasonable amount of time.  I suppose worse things could happen to me!!!!  I mean get real, you think coaches really have all the answers to everything?  You don't think that some fans have ever had a good idea?  You probably don't because you are too busy thinking it is impossible to teach a high school kid something as simple as where to run with a football.  I'll be happy to live in my fantasy world,  it's probsbly much better than your reality!!!

    825742432

First, I don't neglect my family and I do my job with pride (that may or may not make sense to you). I may not be a HS football coach, but that comment is still way off.

No one said (or at least I didn't see anyone say) that coaches have all the answers. That isn't true. Coaches mess up. Some a lot. Some not so much. The good ones don't do it too much and the great ones learn from it when they do.

I also didn't see anyone say that fans are completely without knowledge, because that would also be untrue; Coacht Forums are often proof of this. Some fans have been going to games for ten, twenty, thirty or more years and have seen more football than some coaches.

You, however, are at the opposite extreme. You think you know everything because you sit up in the stands and rip the coach for everything he does. You can go home and draw 'perfect' pass paterns all night. Well here's some news for your a**: that doesn't mean you can coach a team. Heck, you can be a football genius but if you can't get kids to respond to you, then you've got nothing.

You accused high school coaches (in general) of thinking that it is impossible to teach a kid where to run with a football. Let me break a "simple" play down for you: Starting up front, for a basic play, a coach (ONE OL coach that most schools have) probably needs to teach FIVE kids and, on various plays, a TE, FB, or WB who to block against possibly more than 4 defenses. But it doesn't stop there. They've got to be able to know AND CARRYOUT these assignments without thinking; if a player is at all uncertain of his assignment, he'll hesitate and hesitation on a football field causes SERIOUS problmes. They've got to know what to do if the defense shifts suddenly at the line or if a LB or DB walks up/shows blitz. They've got to be ready for audibles. They've also got to be basically compentent regarding their stance, hand placement, and also the situation (down, distance, score, etc; this applies to all players, not just linemen). Now to the backs, you've got one, maybe two, and certainly no more than three, coaches to teach the WRs and TEs their pass routes, when they need to go in motion, and maybe sometimes blocking assignments. Like linemen, these players must be technically proficient and have situational awareness. In the backfield, you've got a (one) coach to teach your RBs and FBs what to do between when/where to run, when/who to block, and when to carry out a fake or go out for a pass (and what route to run to catch that pass). Then you've got a coach (MAYBE two) to teach you're QB literally everything. He's got to be a coach on the field. He has to be responsible for the assignments of all eleven of the offensive players.

And this process can only begin after hours of practice have been spent drilling players to perfection on technique. But that was all blatantly obvious to you, right?

Getting 16-17 year old guys to stop thinking about girls and "love letters" from colleges and focus on what you want them to do is no small task; heck you don't even need a coach to tell you that, a teacher will do. Now you may or may not be more capable than some of the bad coaches out there, I don't know, but I know you don't have what it takes to be a REAL coach.

BTW: Based on your last statement (in red; and everything I've heard from you) I would advise that you seek out the counsel of a mental health professional. Also, I think you should know the ratio of coaches to players on my former high school team was 1:10. That's one coach for ten players.

  9. I heard from a good source that this game can go either way. I have not seen Tyner yet, I did see Brainerd at Howard. I hear Brainerd is better.

    825742558

I talked to players who scrimmaged their varsity (and watched the scrimmage). They didn't play hard at all. There were times (on special teams) when they could barely get 11 guys on the field because their players were too lazy to get out there. They didn't come off the ball at all. They didn't hit; they couldn't block or tackle. They have 0 fundamentals. Tyner is not a perfect team by any stretch, but they are at least competent on a football field. I did not see that from Brainerd.

  10. It is obvious that you know absolutely nothing about football or what is takes to coach a team.  You have 11 players on defense and 11 on offense and usually, they have 11 different things to do when a play is run.  A coach or coaches, and I have never been on a staff with 10, has to make sure that all 11 are doing everything perfectly.  We have to worry about stances, cadences, hand placements, and a million other variables to make sure that the play will work.  Family time is sacrificed studying our next opponent and making our defensive and offensive schemes work against our opponent.  I doubt you have ever had to sacrifice to do anything in life.  Players have playbooks for reference material, but the playbook only outlines the particular scheme.  That scheme has to be taught to the players in a very methodical way.  I am laughing as I type this because I understand that you are too big of an idiot and too wrapped up in your own little fantasy world to understand.  I have respect for any profession that chooses to help others and make productive individuals out of young men.

Butkus, you're absolutely right. Mustangfan is a complete idiot.

  11. If powell wins this game its gonna turn a bunch of heads and its gonna make all of yall realize that they are a good team and do have a chance to win alot of games this year, they do have alot of tallent the coaches just havent used it all yet hopefully they will this week agaisnt Mcallie because they are a very good team and are every year this will be the test to see how good the Panthers are really going to be this year. But im still saying Powell wins

    Powell 21 or 28

    Mcallie 17

    825742180

Powell has no chance, what-so-ever. And that's coming from someone who has watched both the Lenoir City and Webb games as well as their scrimmages this fall at McCallie's camp.

Powell's linemen are big and strong but they're slow and they wear down easily. Lee Smith is the only one of them with any stamina, and his attitude will take him out of the game. Other than Cody Watts and a decent RB (#10), Powell has no backs of any consequence, offensively or defensively. That means McCallie puts up a ton of points because ALL of their backs are amazing.
