  1. Any thoughts on how the rest of this season looks like and what the future holds for Indy?

It's almost a certainty that they will be on the outside looking in come November. However, they weren't expected to do much this year. The current juniors may be the best class to come through the program and they will have an entire offseason to get better. I think this team has a real chance at something special next season but they need to find a tailback. They need to get back to work Monday and try to fix some things as they have a short week of practice before taking on Ravenwood on Thursday.

  2. i will agree with heckman being the real deal as a junior, and will agree they better have some stud as runningback on the frosh team because they are way too one dimensional- this leads me TO SAY heckmans stats this year considering the fact that all the coaches in the region know they are not gonna hand the ball off are that much more impressive.

But the real SITUATION and PROBLEM with INDY is that they cant cant cant stop the run at all this year, I mean look at season stats I am talking big chucks on yards given up on the ground and not going to any games this year- what is wrong with the D?>

They got burned in the first quarter by the run. On Dickson's first three drives, they had 10 plays for 208 yards and 3 TD's.

However, the D really came to play from the 2nd quarter until the late 4th. They forced 4 or 5 punts, had several tackles for loss, and absolutely shut the run down. The pass is what killed them last night. Dickson completed three huge deep balls (including two in the final three minutes).

  3. So can someone remind me again why Chaz shouldn't win region MVP?

Hard to argue at this point, though there is still a lot of football left to be played.

When all is said and done, I think he has a pretty good shot but chances are his team will finish 3rd in the region and for some reason coaches almost always give it to a guy on a higher finishing team.

Not saying that's how it should be, but that's the way it goes sometimes.

However, if they beat Franklin, he should not only win Region MVP, but they should go ahead and name the school after him.

  4. Wow, just wow.

It looks like playoff spots are virtually set, aside from who will be 2 and who will be 3.

Indy will have to win out if they want have any hope of even getting into a tie for 4th place.

They were going to be in a good spot...finish the game tonight and you've got a game next week against Ravenwood that would probably decide the final playoff spot.

Oh well...this team has one of the top two or three players in the region and he's just a junior. Next season they will be really good, although they absolutely MUST discover some form of tailback. The inability to line up in the I-form and pound the rock is killing this team right now.

  5. Dickson jumped out 21-0 early as they did a week ago against Centennial.

Indy clawed its way back and took control of the game in the 3rd and early 4th quarters.

With 4 minutes to go, IHS led by a score of 35-21. However, Dickson completed a long pass and scored to make it 35-28.

After Indy failed to get a first down, Dickson caught a huge break when a deep ball bounced off an Indy DB's helmet and landed in the hands of a Cougar receiver at the 5-yard line. DCHS tied it up at 35.

A game-winning FG attempt by Indy with 10 seconds left missed.

In OT, Dickson scored, Indy did not.

    FINAL

    Dickson Co. 42

    Independence 35

Side note: Indy had 13 penalties.

  6. Indy must win three of its next four games to have a chance at a playoff berth, while Dickson is winless. However, Dickson gave Centennial all it could handle a week ago.

Over the last two seasons, Indy's offense has ravaged DCHS. However, most of the players from the past two seasons are gone and it's time for new kids to step up. Will Indy earn a big region win on Friday night, or will Dickson get in the W column for the first time this season?

    Discuss.

  7. A solid win for the Eagles of Williamson County tonight. But they are going to have to step their play up if they are going to knock off Ravenwood or Brentwood(who beat previously unbeaten Franklin tonight). I noticed the stats are skewed on the Tennessean yet again giving credit to too many people for TDs than the actual number of points they scored as a team.

Region 6-5A is back "up" after having two consecutive down years. Even the cellar dwellers are good this year--Centennial is 5-2 while Northeast and Columbia are improving. Indy is going to have to bring it EVERY week.

I think they'll turn it around. Historically they perform well against Dickson. A win next week would build some momentum heading into the Ravenwood/Brentwood games in back-to-back weeks. Indy has to win three of its next four games to have a shot at the postseason.

  8. I honestly think that Ravenwood has a really good shot. They play their best against great teams, and they have the coaching experience to make a run.

Franklin is the favorite on paper but they have struggled in the playoffs each of the past three seasons, so we'll have to wait and see.

  9. Agreed, well said. Stop talking about these two kids. Its not about them its about the team. There doesn't need to be another debate about Smith vs. Heckman the season is well under way and whatever happens happens. Now can we please talk about the team.

    Couldn't agree more.

  10. So, let me get this straight...when it was a win last year...it was a team win..........and this year? Maybe the team needs some help. If they want people to step up, they have to put them on the field. If Smith and Heckman were in the backfield at the same time, how would you defend that? Just a thought. Radical, yes, but worthy of consideration.

Oh, please re read my earlier post. Savior and Guru weren't directed at your good friend Donathan(god forbid). They simply were an allusion(look it up).

Sorry, I'm not good with anagrams.......nsfbfan1?

Maybe Indy should come out in the A-11 offense...that would make everybody happy.

  11. You're right, of course, I should be ashamed to have to point out the obvious to all the bandwagoners. I've followed this team/soap opera since its inception........from the Scott Smith years with his messiah.....through the latest guru and savior. Such drama! Such pathos ( look it up)! To quote an old rock lyric........"Meet the new boss...Same as the old boss!"

You are a coward and a pathetic excuse for a human being. Your login name doesn't fool anyone.

  12. With 3 Ls and 8ints under their belt, the chatter about this hot team and QB has died down a lot. And Franklin is next, ready or not.

Surely you aren't suggesting they play the QB that lost to Franklin 41-16 last year, right?

Or do you go with the kid who made a deep postseason run, who had you within a TD of BA in the 4th quarter, and who led you back from 14 down against Centennial. Sure, Indy hasn't closed games very well but they are a young team, a team that is very much learning how to play without the class of 2008.

Here's something I'm wondering--is Brett Meeker going to see the field at all as a RB? He showed major promise all through middle school and even as a freshman and sophomore. I feel like he can be the kind of tailback that this team needs but he has been absent from the stat sheet so far. Has he regressed or is there an injury at work?

  13. I didn't see the game, but calling a reverse in the end zone with the score tied that late in the game is very questionable. To me, it looks like Centennial shut down the deep passing game (which had been HUGE for Indy in the two games leading up to this one). Part of that was probably the sloppy conditions but nonetheless, Indy didn't stretch the field with the pass as much. Heckman had another incredible game, particularly running the ball. However, Indy MUST and I repeat MUST find some semblance of tailback that they can hand the ball to out of the I-Formation, otherwise they have no shot of doing ANYTHING in this region. Those not named Alex Heckman had 9 carries for 25 yards last night. That is not getting it done. I hope that these errors are corrected and corrected soon, or the Eagles are in for a long season.

  14. I thought people were underrating Centennial on here all week...Congrats to the CHS program...maybe it's a win they can hang their hats on.

Indy has a lot of work to do if they want to compete in this region. It doesn't get any easier as Franklin travels to IHS next week.

  15. I hope this loss doesn't doom Centennial to another 3-7 season. This was a game that they clearly overlooked on their schedule and Page took it to them. Nobody's going to give Centennial an inch in region 6-5A...I certainly hope they bring it with more intensity next week at Independence or they'll get thumped like they did in 2006. I'm rooting for Coach Mat because he's a great guy and I hope he gets this program to the level it should've been at years ago, but it's clear that CHS has a long way to go.

As far as Page, it looks like Jack Daniels is working his magic yet again in the county. The Patriots are 2-0 for the first time since 2000. I think a big factor here was that Page scrimmaged Brentwood, Ravenwood, and Indy in the off-season, a move that looks like it paid off. Congrats to PHS...good luck next week against Lipscomb. Your team is playing with a ton of confidence and I think it will give DLHS quite a ball game.

  16. Leave it to Brian Rector to pull off the monumental win. Think about all of the teams that have attempted to beat BA and failed...including TWO state champions (Brentwood 2002, Ravenwood 2005)...wow. I'm shocked is all I can say. In looking at the score, I can't help but wonder if RHS converted on a two-point attempt at the end of the game...that's how they lost in 2006.

  17. From what I observed from one game...

    - the o-line and receivers are better this year than last years

    - the QB is the same

    - the secondary on defense is better this year than last years

    - the front 8 needs some work on tackling

    - the run game needs to be used and I think will be- this was just the game plan (5 wide) for this particular game

    - it should be a solid year for Indy

I didn't see the tape, but if the receivers really are better this year than last year, this should be a really solid team. I think they get back on track next week at Kenwood.
