  1. I don't have a clue about who this guy is but for all you people talking about him, where did you play after school? You talk like Vany is bethune-Cookman or something. D1 is still D1, whether it's Vandy or Southern Cal. Plus I can guarentee you that a degree from Vandy has a little more pull than one from UT.

  2. Spring practice does begin on May 9th and will conclude with a inter county game with McMInn Central in Athens on the 20th is what I was told yesterday. All I really know for certain @ the high school is that the soccer team and supporters are upset becuse one of the football coaches ( no name ) decided to top dress the football field with about 2 inches of sand a few days before the soccer team was hosting an invitational tournament. Fortuantly for the soccer team they were able to move up the hill a bit and play there games on the practice field. The question I got was who is running the athletic department @ the high school the AD or does each coach do as they will. I am not a big soccer man but it was quite embarrasing to the soccer program (which is ranked #4 in TN) when you had teams from Nashville, Knoxville and N. Georgia and they had to play on a field that is not maintained quite as good as the game field is. But there lies the problem @ McMinn no leadership and no direction just status quo.

They only have 3 football coaches so it shouldn't be hard to figure out.

  3. Gene Davis was hired

Gene Davis from Athens? If so then they are getting a good "old School" coach. He was my o line coach @ mcminn years ago and he is good. Good luck to the tigers!

  4. I'm by no means an Ooltewah fan, but what Coach Gatewood did there is a borderline miracle. To take a team that was ALWAYS earmarked as a win and take them to the semi's a few years ago is amazing. Good luck to coach Monroe, he has the tallent to win it all this fall.

  5. Hey Cephus!

How are things in GA? Things are good here in TN. The Cherokee's could possibly go 0-10 this year. They had to drop central and crossville off the schedule and picked up us down @ Chatt. Central and I think Rhea County. The region will probably be like it was last year. Heritage will be improved and I don't know about John Allen down at Bradley Central. I heard from a former coach @ Walker Valley that John Allen is trying to recruit a couple of kids from WV. You coming to the reunion this summer?

  6. Mullinax is not the answer. He is happily rich, but besides that he never worked any great miracles at McMinn. His best ever was probably a third round loss.

Never worked miracles? I don't know what McMinn teams you watched but the ones I seen were all miracles. In 91 took a less than good team to Nashville Strattford (#2 in the state at the time) and upset them 7-6. Also took a team in 99 that was picked to finish 5th in its region and made them runner ups. The talent pool @ McMinn has never been good with the exception of Shazzon Bradley yet he always had good teams. If you guage good coaches by number of state championships then you eliminate nearly 80 % of the coaches in TN. He never had a losing season while @ McMinn and made the playoffs for 10 straight years. Do you a little search and tell me how many coaches can say that.

  7. I am surprised John Mullinax name has not been mentioned as a candidate for the position. He is currently in Rome, GA @ Armurchee high school trying to rebuild a program that has won 2 games in 3 years. The stumbling block for him to come to Bradley would be $$$$$$$. Because he is making alot of it @ Armurchee, but his wife still works in Athens and they still own their home in Athens. Could the long time McMinn coach return to Tennessee to coach McMinn's most bitter rival Bradley?

The answer to this question is a resounding NO! I was told by the bald man himself. He is having too much fun in GA to go to Bradley.

  8. My apologies to Maryville's defense.  I thought they would need 35 to win....they needed 11.  I overrated Central's offense and underrated Maryville's bend but not break defense.  I wish I could have seen the game but I listened to it over the internet and the Newstalk99 anouncers were very complimentary of Maryville.  Hard to say since it is still early and there is a lot of strange things that could happen but I think Maryville got a big momemtum boost towards making the Blue Cross Bowl tonight.  Maryville and Central are the two best teams on the East side of the bracket but who knows.  I look forward to the playoffs to see how both teams do.

I was on the endzone end for most of the game ( I left midway through the 3RD quarter) and I wasn't very impressed with Central. It looked to me like they quit. During the PAT's on my end half of them wouldn't even line up. Helton looked pretty bush league also, but I guess you will when you don't have time to throw the ball. Congrats to the rebs for a good game.

  9. why do team do this? i think teams would play better if they got the whole day Friday to rest and then came to play instead gettin up and going to school. I know some coaches like giving their kids a longer weekend, but I think Thursday Night games make attendance lower.

Some school systems do not allow extracuricular activities if the kids are out of school that day.

  10. A wing-t team has never won the state championship at the highest level of classification in Tenneessee.  (NO NOT CLEVELAND EITHER THAT WAS 4-A)

Until it happens, that is fact.

But I would put that cleveland team up against any in the state. They had more talent on the bench than most had starting.

  11. I am uncertain @ this time if I am going to make the trip to Maryville. It is not that I don't want to support the team but they have not been much to watch this year. As you know we have high standards @ McMinn and all of the excitement that goes along with qualifying for the playoffs is gone for the first time in 11 years and we simply don't know what to do.

As a loyal supporter I hope the team comes together and wins these last 3 games and finishes @ 5-5 because that is alot better then 4-6 or 3-7. We have confidence that we will regain our winning ways next year and return to the tradition of years past. GO TRIBE!!!!

A "true fan" would support his/her team no matter what happens. Yes McMinn has high standards and tradition, but that tradition now resides in Rome, Georgia. Text book example is The University of Alabama. They have "tradition" but where has it been in the last 10 years? I hope that McMinn can win out and salvage their season, but don't underestimate WB, all their losses have come to teams ranked in the top 10 in their classifications.
