Kicking....at the risk of showing my age I remember a kicker by the name of Rush Burrus. I seem to recall that he did a more than adequate job. That was around 1973 if anybody is saying who. I agree that kicking is not a tradition at Lake county but I say why not start one. There was a time in our history that an extra point or 150 yards in penalties was but a pothole on our way to Nashville. Those WERE the days my friend, but I digress, nowadays we need every point we can get. Hey i'm not talking Jan Stenerud or Gary Anderson. I'd settle for a 75% success rate. Maybe with that kind of success when we're inside the ten yard line against Bruceton for the third time and it is fourth and four the field goal attempt is a viable option. Especially when our defense has played it hearts out but we are one big play away from a Bruceton touchdown and an extra point for the tie or the lead. Every year there are kids on the sidelines who get limited playing time. Why not from those kids try to find ONE that can kick long enough and straight enough to kick an extra point. And then work with them for continual improvement. To say, well we have never had good kicking is defeatist and if we keep that attitude we never will. Before 1980 Lake county had never won a state championship, should we have told the players on the 1977,1978 and 1979 teams that were close but didn't win to don't let that worry you because we never have won. I don't think so! So I don't say why do we need good kicking , I say why not have good kicking. I say have a tradition of good kickers just as we have of great tailbacks and I say if not now, WHEN.....West Carroll 26 Lake County 25..stilllll hurts.
