I was at the game, and here is the letter I sent to Jeff Lockridge about the incident.

Please note, I do not condone what our guys did, however, let the whole story be told.

Jeff,

I just read your article about the behavior of the Smyrna football players. While I do not agree with what our players did(They didn’t use obscene gestures by the way), the Ravenwood fans are failing to tell you how unsportsmanlike they were being during our warm ups. I was on the sideline taking pictures for our website on the Ravenwood side. The students were yelling “Smyrna Bulldogs you stink(They didn't use Stink here, but CoachT edits the word” and “JOSH It’s all your fault” they taunted Josh Crouch unmercifully. I was really disturbed by this but kept silent and chalked it up to “teen age immaturity”. From what I saw, I saw several players going back to show Ravenwood that all their trash talk didn’t affect the outcome of the game. This is really sad that some fans are able to make accusations and then taint the State Championship our guys rightfully won.

Both sides need to be presented.

I miss playing the likes of Gallatin and Oak Ridge. I miss the good game discussion and some friendly insults. The posting on this forum topic is absolutely the worst. All I get from these posting from Smyrna is a bunch of school student talk and a wrestling coach who I would think would be busy with the start of wrestling season. It’s so bad; the kids can’t spell the Smyrna Quarterback name. It shows no respect to one of your better athlete by not spelling his name correctly.

Why did you have to go and bring me up. I am not the wrestling coach anymore...So I can enjoy the whole football game.

This event is not just for Smyrna High students and parents. It is open to anyone who wants to come out and support our Bulldogs.

I don't know what to say about that. You could gain some incredibly if you stop capitalizing every letter. It's distracting and obnoxious and it makes you look incredibly unintelligent.

The whole mascot thing to me is rather funny. "My mascot's better than yours"...

Come on now. Also, why the hatred, the nasty remarks. Its a GAME.... someone has to lose, someone has to win. Ravenwood is a great school. Smyrna is a great school. Both have great teams(hence, they are in the finals of the TSSAA playoffs). Instead of throwing mudd, why don't we just celebrate our teams success and cheer them on when they play. All this negative talk is really making everyone look kind of silly.

Well as a current student at SHS i start to wonder do we really believe, because this is like the first time the football team has made it to state and of course the papers are making a big deal out of it but what about the students surlly their must be some loyalty to the school but where I dont see any around the school no posters telling students to support our team of course there is the ocasional annousment to tell where the game will be held but where is the school spirit

The students of Smyrna High request that you make no more post. Especially a thread! Some periods please!!!

Actually Ravenwood, being the #4 seed from their region has been considered the underdog in this match-up, not Smyrna. Both teams have overcome so much to get to this fork in the road. It is a shame that one has to lose .

Didn't Ravenwood earn that #4 seed because of how they started the season. They really turned things around since then and are definately firing on all Cylinders. Maybe according to seeding, yes they are underdogs.. but we all know how messed up seeding can be at times.

It will be a great game.

The fact about this game (thought I would get us back on topic)...The teams are very evenly matched. I know people are saying Ravenwood is playing better than when we played earlier. However, so is Smyrna. I honestly think(I don't want to use the Believe word) that Smyrna has a new level of confidence coming into this game.

Now I know I will probably get some flack from this, but Ravenwood has something to defend(Pressure to repeat) while Smyrna doesn't have that monkey on their back. We weren't supposed to be here(according to most predictions) so we can come out there and play knowing we are the perceived underdogs.

How about we push all that stuff aside. CoachT is for discussing FOOTBALL. And it's sort of funny how everyone is blaming on the Ravenwood fans for talking about their wealth and Brentwood when, with the exception of Rookie45 (who apologized), it's the Smyrna fans talking about it.

I agree...This whole stereotype is way out of line. Play it on the field.

Why do you want to ferret out what is being said about you in a negative manner on a public board,,,,in which most screen names are anonymous? In other words, where does it get you? As you so eloquently listed all the accomplishments of the program under your time there,,,,it should stand all by it's self.

Does it make you feel kind of bad that you had your supporters out there defending you, when you brought up the negative comments some times????

tnko, I am still looking for the post from Coach G where he told how Smyrna had done winning all of their Rutherford County Crowns as well as all of their Districts. I did not make this up, just as you said Dbl Tech was a kid. I guess this particular post has been removed as well. This is not made up stuff and, today, as we speak, all true. The truth is in the pudding.

I made a post referencing my insight about Gonyea from a wrestlers outside perspective earlier in the week, but I have to admit Hoosierdad and texas23 have alittle more insight. From the adult perspective I can't help but say Gonyea doesn't quite add up. I don't blame anyone for wanting to beg anonymous but why all of the deception? Also, If Coach Garner produced a failed middle school program why would they give him the high school program? I haven't heard of any wrestling credentials, but even if he had a list a mile long. Good athletes don't always make good coaches.

There was no deception. I have never denied I was DBLTech. As a matter of fact, I have signed coachGonyea on a DBLTech post. Only Tex was observant enough to know about it.

Had I tried to find out about what was being said about me under CoachGonyeaSHS, I would have never gotten anyone to say their real feelings. However, this backfired on me. "I don't blame anyone for wanting to beg anonymous" So why are you blaming me...

I remember last year, Springfield coming out of nowhere. Don't count them out...They have some solid young wrestlers who most likely picked up on some good stuff from the Seniors who moved on.
